One of my favorite scenes. Megan and Jonathan portrayed Anne and Gilbert like no other two people can come close too. The chemistry they had onscreen was extraordinary. RIP Jonathan!

It's ironic that Anne initially rejected Gilbert because he didn't fit her romantic fantasy, and yet he is the romantic fantasy for so many people like Anne.

The single best rendition of Anne of Green Gables. I can't imagine any remake ever surpassing or even coming close to this.

And I'm sure Anne felt as if it were a lifetime before she finally realized that her prince charming was right before her all the time.

@@stefcisne so fun fact, her career aspirations had little-to-nothing to do with her romantic life. Her ideal was someone dark, handsome, poetic...and she had grown used to seeing Gilbert as simply a good friend who was also academically inclined. When Gilbert proposed for the first time, she declined as she thought he wasn't a romantic interest. When she met Roy Gardner, handsome and rich, they went out together for two years, and they both cared for each other. Roy thought Anne was perfection, and Anne thought that Roy was her ideal. But several times she doubted it, as everything was so predictable, dull, and he had little substance and no sense of humor. When Roy proposed, Anne declined. The author wanted to highlight the difference in personality between the two males, making them absolutely opposites. Because everybody knew that Anne and Roy were involved, however, Gilbert was sent word that Anne was engaged and lost hope, becoming ill in the summer after college. When a mutual friend told Gilbert to try again, he recovered and Anne accepted his proposal. Her career had almost nothing to do with it, as the only way it affected it was putting along the next book, Anne of Windy Poplars, set during their engagement period where Anne was teaching elsewhere. But other than that, her career had nothing to due with her rejection.

@@stefcisne what i was saying is simply that she rejected Gilbert, not to continue her education, but because she thought he wasn't her ideal; even later on she accepted his proposal when she realized how awesome he was, and still went on to teach before they actually got married

I wish the Montgomery family had allowed the series to continue with the next book, Anne's House of Dreams. In that book Anne and Gilbert get married and move to the town where Gilbert gets a job as a doctor. It's a great story in and of itself and, as usual, Anne is Anne.

My favourite version of Anne of Green Gables. Seeing this takes me back to childhood when I was a huge fan of the books & Gilbert-Anne pairing. Jonathan Crombie & Meghan Fellows were so perfect in their roles.
I love this version so much. The actors embody the characters and its a joy to see these two go from childhood enemies to friends and beyond.

It’s so sweet how they didn’t even need to say like ‘are we together?’ or ‘are we gonna get married?’ or something like that. They just knew😊 my ideals are sooo much higher because of Gilbert lol. I want something as romantic as that but livening now it probably won’t happen. Life was so simple back then.😊

My favorite moment between them is when he spies her whimsically dancing with a ghost partner after the hayride. Albeit it's right before she rejects him, but I love how much he appreciates her imagination.
One of the few things on which my older sister and I could agree and happily rewatch over and over together. Wonderful memories.

I had the biggest crush on Jonathan when this series came out when I was hitting my early teens. He was my idea of what a wanted in a man. I got it wrong in my first attempt of marriage but I've nailed it with my second. It's this series that created in me, a desire for country living...I'm yet to fulfil that dream! Sad to know he has past and at the age I am now. RIP Jonathan. Thank you for the dream🙏
'Anne Of Green Gables' is one of my favourite television series.
Since Jonathan Crombie (AKA Gilbert Blythe) died, I have not watched it.
It will be tearful once I do decide to re-visit this special series.
I do own all of the DVDs.

The whole cast of this version was perfect, particularly J and M ...they should never have done a remake, because it could NEVER live up to this.
