Just watched this test 5 minutes before my test and my God did it save me. I had this manoeuvre for my test and I forgot my reference points because we hadn’t practiced in ages. Anyways I passed

My now previous BSM instructor told me, while reversing out of a parked bay the the indicators also need to be active depending on which way the car is turning. He told me if I failed to not use the indicators while reversing out of a parking bay during a test I’d get a serious fault, yet I can’t find a single reference that says the indicators should be on while reversing out of a parked bay and I’ve checked the AA, RAC and the latest official Highway Code and countless RUclips videos including this video. I’ve wasted almost £700 on BSM crappy “lessons”
You're right you don't need to put on indicators before reversing out of a bay. Your reverse light (white rear light- comes on when in reverse gear) warns others you're in reverse and therefore could move at any point. Reversing is dangerous because your view behind is compromised, therefore you would edge out slowly and the car would pull the way you intend to go and people would see this.
We often signal with the car.
As far as putting an indicator on in any situation you should ask yourself - would this be of benefit to anyone or would it confuse. In there somewhere you'd find your answer.
With any parking manoeuvre you would wait if anyone was near the car until they'd moved away.
The examiner would definitely not fail you for not putting a signal on. He would fail you if you hadn't looked properly before moving.

How far away should you position yourself from the bay you are going into? Should it be the other side of the road or in-between? (I know this depends on the car, but just for a general reference point would be useful to know)

My insustroctor told me yesterday that it is not allowed to open the door to check whether the car is in the bay. Is there any official material that I could refer to?
Of course you're allowed to. Why wouldn't you?
Your instructor is either new to the job or should know better.
That’s super weird. That’s definitely not true at all! Opening your door to check is very valid to do in the test
I have problem of straightening my car, I used your technique of looking the base window with the kerb but it does not work to me my instructor always told me the car is not straight and I should look far ahead to see if it’s straight then now I have no clues! Any tips please 🙏🏼😊
You might also see the lines parallel to the car in your side mirror (but don't stare at the mirror).

indicate when forward bay if there's anyone to benefit from a signal (signal every time if you want).
No indicators needed when reverse bay parking (your reverse lights will be on automatically).
