Droid Build D-O - #5 - Mantis Hacks

- Part five in my D-0 droid build!
Based on Michael Baddeley's CAD designs! D-O is the new droid on the block in the Star Wars universe and I thought it would be fun to build one. Michael already had a design available that he kindly sent to me, but I'm making a few tweaks of my own, including upgraded servos, drive system and electronics!

Thank you so much for sharing your D-0 build. This is just so brilliant, what an amazing job. D-0 is my son's favorite, so we've been looking for as much as we can find on this relatively new/rare droid. And your build series is the cream of the crop!
Just found your channel. You're on a whole other level! Very inspiring
Thanks 🙏 pls share 👍
Why isn't this more popular?!
Amazing work, and very inspiring, thank you for sharing the process
Love our work and videos
Thank you 🙏
wow just awesome work allot of time it totally pays off
Will be trying a D-O after my mouse droid is complete. Love how well the software works here.
🤩Just WOW!!!!😍
D-0, BD1, and C1-10P (Chopper), are without doubt (IMHO) the most adorable Droids in any of Star Wars canon.
Painted and aged, I would LOVE to be able to buy this.
Darn shame there is nothing even close to this "ultra realistic" fully controllable, amazing D-0 available. Kudos, fantastic work. 👍
Thanks 👍👍
This channel is so underrated
This is so fxxking COOL!!!!! I love EVERY part of the design!
Thank you, appreciated!
Really enjoying your videos!
Pretty amazing what you can print in your home nowadays.
Thanks 👍
Fantastic build and inspiring
Thank you! Pls share 👍😁
Great work, Matt! By the way: love the BB-8 display you have in the background, with the Time magazine front-page and all. Lovely detail
Thank you! That's my half scale BB-8 know as Baby-8. It's fully operational and has appeared in an episode 8 blooper reel! I plan on doing a video upgrade of it at some point. 👍
@@MattDenton Baby-8! That's so adorable
It's right here ruclips.net/video/OW-EUttyp0o/видео.html
Matt Denton haha, was it ever supposed to be used in the movie or did you just bring it to play a prank on the actors?
I had made it and mentioned it to the AD who said we should use it for a prank.
D-O is my favorite lego character
Cool 👌
this channel is great !!
I had no idea
Thanks! Feel free to share 😊
i freaking love him. he's a smol boi. i love smol bois.
Complimenti, sei bravissimo 👍
👍🙏
whattt you just inspiring my self
Thanks 🙏
Excellent build - the attention to detail is amazing.
As far as the clutch/bushing goes, nylon is hygroscopic, so parts can be annealed for toughness by putting them in boiling water (they can be colored as well by adding fabric dye to the water). This is SOP for nylon props in the nitro model airplane world, but haven't tried it on 3D prints but it may make that part even tougher.
Thanks 🙏
Amazing! And to be fair, R2D2 crashed a few times while on set, as well! Lol
When’s part 6 coming? Brilliant work
Hi. Thanks. Not sure as I'm flat out with work at the moment
Looking forward to it anyway, very interesting stuff
The cost in the US for all the parts is over $1,000 if I use the parts you suggested whereas the Mr. Baddeley's design & parts is about $400. I like the higher end motors you use but it also more than doubles the cost.
Yes.. I’m not sure what you’re point is. I never set out to make a low cost droid or a copy of Mr Baddeleys. I wanted to use higher end components 👍
What about wooden skewers cut to size for the antennas eg like long cocktail sticks? Light but stiff and easy to paint.
Zawarudo!!!! Stop time!
ZA WARUDO TO KIO TOM INE (don’t correct me please)
timmyisded shoot did it better than I could remember
Broken. so amazing.
Thanks 🙏
Great work, Matt! Been following the build since part 1. By the way are the Cad file avalable.
Thanks. No only the stl files for the gokart abs forklift on my threeding page
This is just incredible! Loved it!
How long did it take you to print all these pieces?!
Thanks. A single 8 stud beam is 16hrs
@@MattDenton
wrong video lol
I love this build. I love the 5 part walkthrough and description. I subscribed in hopes to see more robot/droid/whatever builds. Should you try one from scratch and design it yourself? Of course you should. But.... I hate glued on parts. I know I shouldn't. It's a prejudice that exists for no apparent reason...
Sub'd.
Thanks 👍
HOLY FUCKING SHIT IS THAT A MOTHER FUCKING JOJO REFERENCE
😆 no
Dang
what about a counterweight on the back of the Antenna's?..
first of all, amazing job so far
I think it's amazing how new tech lets makers like yourself make these mechanical marvels at home.
secondly, I can't seem to get how he's turning on the spot 😅
what parts of the wheel are making contact?
The outer rims, the green parts
And thank you 😊
i need this. where can i buy one from you? :D
Hi Matt, you did an amazing job ! Can you tell me approximatly how many time it take for you to achieve this project ? How many time you need to print big piece like that ? What are your main caracteristic to print PLA for big piece ? It's amazing how realistic it is and how everything look like professional... well done for all your work. Is it your main job to do this ? Bye.
The texhnic 8 stud brick takes about 16 hours to print with a 1.2 mm nozzel. With two perimeters and 12% infill.
I've heard that WDI uses a lot of Robotis stuff.
We do too at work 👍
KONO DIO DA
Was it moving on its own?
Hmmm, whuy not a github repository with the documentation and source files???
Files are on thingiverse. Source is closed.
Question and for the lights on the eyes i been looking for some but i have not find them have u ?????? If u have were ?
No I haven’t sorry. I wasnt adding lights.
Maybe fill the head with insulation to kill the resonance sounds
i've been looking for the stl files for About an hour any help ?
Should be on my Thingiverse account
HOW THE F*** DUSE IT TURN
MMMMmmmmmm....yummy.
sup
What's the backdrop music around 16:00?
It's free with iMovie. Called Grey Blue Grey I think...
@@MattDenton Thanks!
I really hope you are getting help from Adam savage
Haha. No but that would be nice 👍
Where is his eyes
