The black inserts to make it look like the handle bar is a proper Lego build 👏👏👏 You really need to be a Lego fanboy and a perfectionist to worry about that. Well done.
Oh thanks 🙏
That lense from pcbway 😮 beautiful
The best!
Makes me wish there was someone making LEGO-style headlights for actual cars!
@@Thinginator This could be you!
It would not be hard to light it up. It might not be a proper headlight but would give it the look.
@@MattDentondo you sell you brick cad files ?
I love all the extra engineering you put into these large Lego builds.
I think it'd be really cool if you printed some of those LEGO "antenna" pieces to cover the brake lever with something that looks a bit more LEGO.👍 Even if the scale was off by a little bit, the authentic appearance would be an enormous benefit in my opinion.
That would be cool
I was five years old when they released 8810, and I'm pretty sure it was the first Technic model I was given, a year or two later
Sweet!!
For the breaking handles maybe consider using 4593 Antenna Small Lever with 4592 Antenna Small Base attached with a 28974 Minifigure Neck Bracket with Back Stud - Thick Back Wall or use 4735 Bar 1x3 with Clip and Stud Holder
Yeah there are lots of Lego mods I can do but I’m trying to keep the vintage technic aesthetic for now…
>be me
>I built a lego motorcycle (you can disassemble it like lego)
>ride it
>oh no, I crashed onto a wall
>get up and start building
>happy to ride my lego motorcycle again
Exactly 😂
Watching somebody walk through their thought process as they design and build it is such a joy. Thanks for sharing this. The PCBway lens is absolutely jaw dropping that it can be that clear.
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks 🙏
My cool uncle is back to making lego stuff!
You are the the cool uncle I never had. Love the videos. Keep it up, Matt.
Wow, thanks!
Это потрясающе, жду всех частей этого проекта
That pcbway lens is absolutely spectacular. Definitely going to have to get something made up to try it out.
It really is!
So now you have a kart and almost a bike , next we need a car or plane. So awesome to see any Lego supersized to such a high detail level
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful ✨ I love your ability to really mix in all the structural and electric mechanisms whilst still looking like LEGO. I missed out on technic for years until I got set 42058 and instantly fell in love with technic lego, and now I’ve spent like $3-4k on technic alone 😅
Wow!! That’s and investment 😀
That light is fantastic! I need to come up with a project just to have one printed. 🤔
Yeah it’s a stunning print!
Great work. Love monkey-bikes, love electrics, love Lego. Really excited to see the finished product.
Thanks 🙏
What I would do with the handle bars is to take the gray pieces that connect them to the vertical bars and put them on upside down. As they are mounted right now leaning on them causes them to flex and potentially break. Flipping them however allows the grey disk spacers to prevent the parts from flexing, potentially making them a little bit sturdier.
Yes I looked at that possibility but they wait was designed on this MK 1 wouldn’t work.. maybe a future version 👍
This looks great! Can’t wait to see the rest now.
Fantastic work, the attention to detail is top notch
Thank you very much!
This is going to be epic!
Thanks 🙏
The hospital bill?
That is ridiculously awesome !!! Just makes me smile and also jealous!
Absolutely brilliant! And very jealous!
Brilliant!! Brings back so many memories!
I absolutely can’t believe I’m only just finding your channel! I appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm. You are fulfilling everyone’s childhood through these videos. You earned yourself a subscriber. Keep up the great work!
Thanks and welcome! Appreciate the feedback :)
I am officially jealous now!!!
That transparant piece looks clearer that the milky stuff Lego is producing nowadays...
Very cool project once again!
It really is! Thanks 🙏
Can't wait to see the end result. Think this is indeed going to be even better than the go kart. The details and enginering are top notch.
Oh thanks 🙏
I love this, pretty sure this was my first Technic set. Really enjoy the jumbo Lego inspired projects. Makes me want to make my own.
Go for it!
A long time ago I asked about your intro music because it sounded really close to a Ratatat song. Today I finally downloaded the audio and searched for it. Turns out it's JinglePunks royalty free track called Exploding Predators... off of an album called "Ratatat".
Fascinating that an ersatz "album" would literally be labelled what it's imitating.
Huh! That’s crazy. I can’t even remember where I found that track now..
next level for next supersize build, could be, make it sound like LEGO or build a flying (model)plane out of your Supersize Stones....
I had that set, I was 13 then. And I still have it.
WOOOOOWWW this is crazy,
I stopped at printing Lego kits at 200% but your creations are always crazier BRAVO😎
Thank you 🙏
My new favourite channel. You're a brilliant engineer by the way.
I wonder how long these prints would tame with 100% infill
Thanks 🙏 100% infill would take a loooooong time and be very heavy 😬
love your channel mate. Excited for pt.2!
Thanks a ton!
Darn I really want an optical analysis of that 3d print as a real lens, could make many projects that are very tricky to find a suitable lens for easy if its a good as it looked on camera. Not to mention as an alterntive to having to source a good enough version of your old classic car/bike's lightbulb lens/covers to fill and polish then cast new ones. Worth the effort of casting no doubt if you have a few buddies with the same problem, but still if the 3d printer can actually just do it.
Yeah it’s an interesting process they have
@@MattDenton Agreed, I've seen passably useable 3d printed optical type elements plenty of times, but ones that at least on camera appear so perfect is a new one on me.
That is so very cool, great to see you at EMFCamp again :)
Love this and all your videos. I wish you would make more videos, more often, but I understand how hard and expensive that would be. But...
You know what we are all thinking. Make the headlight work for real.
Working on it! And thank you 🙏
@@MattDenton Woohoo!
There is SO much thought in this beyond the obvious to the lay viewer. Amazing. Loving your work!
Thank you! 😊
Finaly, i have wanted to see this types of videos for so long now, just want to see part2 and 3
Cool 👌 I hope it gets some good views 😀
Just subscribed! Love how much attention you give to upscaling. Goes to show that at Lego scale strength tolerances are so much more forgiving
Thanks for the sub!
Brilliant progress 👍👍
Love your Videos! Great Work!
Glad you like them!
What an awesome new project! I love how you hide all the non Lego parts inside. Rather ingenious. That lens 🤩, how did they print that?
Thank you 🤗 yeah the lens is nuts! They varnish it or something to remove the layer lines
Always a good day when Matt posts a LEGO build! Great ingenuity in adding the structural rigidity and the little visual covers! I just showed my Son this and said I have wanted to do this for some time (build in larger scale), but I have a standard Prusa, so..... I could double or triple size things but that isn't fun, lol.
Glad you liked it!!appreciate the feedback :)
As always, the attention to detail, design & development is absolutely phenomenal; 👏however, it's totally unacceptable to make something this great a multi-episode build. I need more 🤬
😂 thanks… caking soon I hope
Finished your move yet? I presume this is some of the “fun stuff” you had planned? I still think an Upscaled Ideas Wall-e build would be a great idea! 😂
No not yet!! It keeps getting pushed back 😬
Genuis, very cool!
Thanks 🙏
Another Matt Denton giant Lego build?! YES PLEASE! Chances this winds up as an available STL file?? Your giant go-kart was one of the first larger projects I did when I first go into 3d printed 5 years ago!
Yeah I would like to release a build kit as I’ve had much interest and it’s way simpler than the gokart
This looks so cool!
Thanks 🙏
This is Epic - and its only 1/2 done dang, oh if you hadnt told me that the boat stud part was 3D printed from pcbway id of thought it was injection molded for sure - how did they get it so clear right, wow its magic i tell ya magic.
Keep up the amazing work im waiting anxiously for the next part of the build.
Take Care
Thanks you 🙏
They use resin printers to do the transparent part
Awesome!
I like the term "illegal lego part". Be careful not to be pulled over with the lego police, you might have a lego penalty! Great video as always, I can't wait to see it fully done
😂…..😬
that lens is just a beauty. You have a real talent for building these!
The lens os built by PCBWay 👍
@@MattDenton thanks👍
Dang, this is a great concept!
Thanks 🙏
Looks great, wonder what legos legal team make of all this?
Great build! For some weird reason I'd love to see some flickering LED tea light behind that nice clear headlight lens.
Noted!
For the front light, a 1x1 stud in the centre of the 2x2 round plate, clicked into the 2x1 brick with hole might look better, and be "legal", if that's a look you're worried about.
It is legal to stick a stud in a technic hole. But only one stud, not two. 👍
Good idea.. but why one not two? 🤔
I love it. I have no other words than simple, I love it 🙂
Thanks so much 😊
I admire your work. You're just a wizard 👏
Wow, thank you
i am speechless. ❤ such a cool idea! i hope the front wheel is angled enough. also, bikes (in reality) have that bend in the fork for a reason. perhaps you could offset the 3651 with a 1cm offset to the front? that would make a hige improvement on going a straight line i guess. 😅
Thanks. Yeah the fork angle is a little too upright! It’s not a very good geometry kit 😀
Amazing 😎👌
Thanks ✌️
so cool
omg i had that lego set
I saw this at EMF it was great
So cool! Curious to see how you will handle the suspension. Seems like you've got a few areas where there will be a lot of force as you demonstrated in the video, the gap between the handlebars/handlebars and the pivot for the steering - hope you don't go over any big bumps too fast!
Very cool though, I want one. Will be great to buzz around on at events.
Yeah I think I have it all figure out… TBC 😂
Those 4 transparent rings in the lens ask for a proper function - turn 45 degrees, and you have a (literal) low/high beam and indicator lights
THIS! I fully support it and hope he sees and implements it!
Yes!! Legos motorcycles and RUclips ❤
Yess
WOOHOO YES MORE GIANT LEGO FTW!!!!!!
👍
wow i can't believe that new headlight piece was 3d printed. absolutely beautiful.
Right?!
New Series Begun!! LEts GO!!
YESSSSS
I don't know polylite PLA, but I would never risk such a massive undertaking with PLA. Anything that I used PLA for that is under constant load eventually sags. Not to say that all it takes a bit of sun and a hot day for the thing to behave like molten chocolate.
Curious about how it performs in such large scale.
Amazing project by the way.
Check out the giant go kart 👍👍👍
@@MattDenton I did, pretty cool bybthe way.. That flex that you mentioned there is a bit related to what I am talking about. If there is anywhere in the kart that would put some constant flex in any part, that flex tend to expand over time and will not return to the original form and that is what I observed on PLAs in general, specially the + versions of it that make it more flexible (as a trade off to make PLA tougher). PLA does not return to the original form after being flexed for enough time. If the temperature is higher (like in a hot day, under the sun or near the motor) the effect is more prominent. Obviously with much bigger parts than I ever printed it may take more time and/or tension for it to cause noticeable deformation. I'd still not risk using PLA, knowing about this shortcoming. ABS, for example, does not share the same problem and I use it whenever I know temperature can go up or the part will be under continuous load.
I am curious how the kart will withstand the test of time and usage. It has the downside of releasing VoCs (Estirene) during print, and may require enclosure / PEI print bed. But cost wise is similar if not cheaper than PLA.
I am not sure about PETG in respect to deformation over time, but it is resistant to higher temperatures although a slightly more flexible (but for this size of parts, I don't think it matters).
It might be cool if you did an upscale version of one of the bikes buildable with set 857
3d printing at its finest
Thanks 🙏
Alright, now when are we building a 1:1 scale model of the Mercedes-Benz F1 set? That thing would take forever to print, let alone assemble.
😬
I can't believe that lens is 3D Printed! 😲😲😲
(Can you give a rough idea on what that part would cost for us mortals?)
Yeah it wasn’t cheap! $135 ish
@@MattDenton Not terrible for a one off piece of that quality!
Mercedes technic set printed at 600-800% scale would get a lot of views 😂
I’m amazed such a clear part is possible to 3D print
Post processed
@@MattDenton I assumed so, but even the fact the internal structure is perfectly clear amazes me
Still asking for botar from Bionicle or just any Bionicle set
I need *giant* legos, suddenly.
Yesss
Fantastic work as usual Matt. I recently got a bambu labs X1-Carbon. It's awesome. Some of the prints I've done with it don't even look like prints. That lens looks amazing. What printing method di they use to make that?
Yeah they are threat printers! It’s done by PCBWay.. resin then varnished or something
This may be the coolest thing Ive ever seen.
Edit: does anyone have a link for the E-bike kit used?
I’ll add a link to the kit in the description
Epic! As always, Epic!
Oh thanks 🙏
@@MattDenton Have you considered selling the individual parts on Cults3d or Printables? I'd love to make some large scale old lego kits.
@@TimBoyleAZ some of my kits are available on threeding.com, link in description
Have you thought of resin filling the void of the printed part of the top crossmember to give more strength?
Yes could do 👍
Thank God for the NHS!
😂
@@MattDenton Seriously, be careful with that one. Don't print your own Lego helmet
Put 4 led in the clear piece and you got yourself a porsche headlight
Noice 👌
This was my first technic set that I remember
Cool 😎
are you gonna make the water bottle battery look like a duracell or AA battery. Like honey i shrunk the kids, or antman.
😂🤔
Next build train?
Maybe 🤔
Great video! I love these Lego prints! Do you have any updates on the 1980s car chassis?
Thanks. Yes the chassis is fully printed and will be assembled later this year
please take a picture though the lamp lens!
That's Great Matt!! can't wait to see it finished. BTW, what's with the lego 8860 project? 🙂
Thanks 🙏 8860 will be assembled this year
If you make a giant scale Lego Optimus prime, I'll subscribe
This is awesome and I love the creativity.
That said there was a small bit around 8:30 that made me take pause.
You mention that the m10 bolt adds strength to the handle bar but I had a realization related to my having tried similar at a smaller scale before.
Does it really add strength if the plastic cannot handle deforming to a point past the bolt?
To put it another way, if the plastic delaminates before it reaches contact with the bolt, has the bolt really added strength or is it just there as a backup not directly contributing during the initial stress and breakage.
In essence I think the solution if this is even a problem worth worrying about is getting the plastic tighter around any metal components and or using plastics with more compliance before failiure like nylon or high durometer TPU.
Well.. yes and no. The bolt only ads strength to the part it is connected through, eg the black grip and the end of the grey buckle, but beyond that to the forks then it’s game over.
So I should have been clearer on what I was trying to address. 🙂
That headlight looks amazing! Was there any post processing that PCBWay offered or was that as printed? Also, what method of printing was used, MJF? Great video, cant wait to see it finished. That was my gorst lego model as a kid.
Thanks 🙏 yes they post process it with a varnish or something like that.. and maybe polish it?
Nice but the handlebar needs part 4273 ;-) cleaner look and .... how about 8860 :-)
I’ll take a look. But I like the vintage technic aesthetic. 8860 is printed and waiting for assembly
Very cool project. Was that clear headlight straight off the printer or did they do any sanding/polishing to it?
It’s a print service by PCBWay and there is post processing
I got a good color idea white, black, gray.
😂
Take it to a LEGO Expo!!!
Where ?
@@MattDenton You can Google "LEGO Expos near [town]" and find some fairly quickly. I'm sure you'd be the star of the show :D
Make a ring pcb that fit's that light and put official car leds on it :D
Nice idea 💡
@@MattDenton I know :D I made my own a bunch of years ago for my road car (not the main lights but the small lights)
Excellent - another Lego giant build. Might we see it at Maker Central next year? Do you have a like to the ebike kit? I have a project in mind...
Yeah I’m sure it will be with me at next years event!! I’ll see if I can find the link and add it to the description
@@MattDenton Thank you. After failing with my google-foo, I did a reverse image search from your desk - I think a company called 'L-Faster'? Look forward to chatting again at next year's show.
@@philip_fletcher yeah that’s the one 👍
What Printer did you use?
Various.. it’s in the video
