The name of the village, Royston Vasey, is actually the real name of the stand up comedian Roy 'Chubby' Brown. I've never really watched this show to be honest but I believe he has a cameo as the local mayor in a couple of episodes
Inside No. 9 is another great series worth exploring by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith.
I was about to post the same recommendation. Only discovered no9 recently!
@@SabretoothBarnacle .. yeah, I love it. It reminds me of Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected from the late ‘70’s/‘80’s, but it’s a little more sophisticated, maybe?
How many killings?
Psychoville is well worth a shout
Inside No 9 is my absolute favourite show, but I also love League and Psychoville. The guys are geniuses 😍
I've always thought this would be far too weird for American audiences. But 22 years on, maybe not.
Josh seems to get it! I thought Only Fools and horses would be far too british to translate over the pond but there you go.
LOL it is a crazy show bud I love it!
@@AfterWorkReactions You must have British blood in you to get our humour.
I joined your Patreon because you were reacting to this! So glad to see an American really understand our weird British humour, its really refreshing
To be fair, he’s been reacting to British comedy for a while now. He gets us!
Thanks bud I really appreciate that.
you would be delightfully surprised at how popular this style of humor is in america! or at least how much people enjoy it, even if you don't see it in our mainstream media
Don’t know if anyone has ever mentioned this before, but in the UK there’s a saying “It’s grim up north”. This show plays on that to a spectacular degree!
Have always loved the saying. Being a southerner but with lots of northern relatives it's stuck with me. Definitely suits the league 👌🏼 😂
I have heard it a few times lol thanks bud!
It gets me every time Pauline says "Ross!" (my name). As I've said, I'm certain she's based on my jobcentre coach from about 20 yrs ago. She hated me because I'd already been to Uni, her actual phrase was "there you are, going for a job with your STERTIFICATE in ya hot little hand" LOL just too close to the stuff Pauline says!
Again...do you have any picture of her? I´d like to look at the legendary "Pauline".
LOL that is great =]
My favourite character has always been Papa Lazarou, but I think he only comes in on season 2.
I’d highly recommend the Christmas speacial. Possibly the best comedy Christmas special I’ve ever watched and the good thing is it’s a stand-alone story, so gives nothing away from any of the seasons.
Hello Dave!
One of the best comedy series of all time, pure class, love it 🙂👍🙂
League of gentlemen is so good. Gad fortune of seeing them live a few years back. Such a tallented group of men
too much acting....
Inside No. 9 is even better.
I saw them live, amazing
@@therealdeal9600 yes I saw the live show in my town,Weston-Super-Mare, did you stay in the foyer after for signatures and photos with them. It was great.
It is a great show I am enjoying it alot, I bet it was awesome live!
My favourite ever comedy. So glad you’ve covered this. It does develop really well! Would love to see you do it with more of the screen if you can. Also, Psychoville is made by the same crew! Many thanks as always Josh 👍
Psycoville is great, I agree, especially when reece is the clown, and the dwarf man got tricked into being naked on stage.
Glad you enjoyed it!
League is definitely a series that benefits from being watching in full and in order. It's very unique.
It's real genius is when you get season 2 and realise 90% of the punchlines to series 1 are revealed. Utterly unique and one of my favourites. Psychoville is also genius.
I almost worship the League of Gentlemen. Lol They are comedic and horror geniuses. 😁
The provenance of Hilary Briss’ meat is never fully explained, although his “special stuff” forms the basis of the story arc for series 2.
All we know is...it rhymes with 'drawstring'
The secret is reveled in the league of gentlemen annual if you can find it. I won't spoil the surprise though 😊
The characters in League if gentlemen are absolutely wild in their exaggeration but also quite finely drawn and well acted so as to be believable and well acted and some resemblances to characters that might exist in real life.
First 2 seasons were great!
I wish they just left it after those 2 series, went downhill after that!
One of the slightly disturbing things about Pauline is that she's apparently based on the restart officer that Reece Shearsmith actually had in real life.
_"She was my officer in Wood Green in 1992. Obviously not everything about them is the same, but yes, there is a real-life Pauline out there somewhere."_
Me too , I was there . when I 1st saw it I said OMG that is just like it was on the restart course , then I found out Reece is from Hull. there are a lot of Hull references in the show ,the Store Detective from Hammonds of hull , Charlie and Stella Hull and the name of the pub the go in are based on a real couple who went in that pub .
Worse than that, much of Papa Lazarou is lifted directly from Reece and Steve’s former landlord - “oh, it’s just a saga now…..”
@@ianpark1805 yeah he used to ask for Dave when there wasn't a Dave in the house, I think most of there character are based on real people
Wish me luck fellas, I'm going to be attending one next week! :(
@@marcushull12 Actually no, he would only speak to Steve so if he got Reece his response was ‘is Steve there? Wanna speak to Steve…..’
"Tefalone?"
"There is a Swansea!"
Your reactions to British humour never fail to impress!
This sketch show is both insanely grotesque and hilarious in equal measure. There had been nothing quite like this before and these guys are genius.
I’m sure they coined the name of the village from the name of stand up comedian, Roy Cubby Brown, whose gigs are vulgar, crass, and utterly disgraceful… it’s perfect 😅
"He said I could touch his helmet, if I showed him my points." 🤣🤣🤣
Came to your channel many times waiting for episode 2. Going to watch now.
i went to see them on tour 3 years ago - they were extremely good
That is awesome I bet it was a great show!
The special stuff you never defiantly find out what it is but it’s assumed to be human 😂
Dont spoil it...besides...its half human at least
LOL I would assume so.
wait until he see's the circus people haha
You still have a lot of great characters coming up , Papa Lazarou , Charlie and Stella Hull, Mike , Crème brulee, Iris and Mrs Levison , Dr Chinnery the vet , to name but a few.
Herr Lipp!😂 So dodgy, but very funny.
@@carterlink Alles klaar!
"You're my reactor now!"
This is just a saga now...
@@paulovalente5276 He can.......do things...........
@@thewomble1509 don´t need to be rude dear....
a fairly accurate show of a side of Britain foreigners don't normally see.
Paused as soon as it started just to say that Royston Vasey (the town in the show) is named after a comedian (Roy Chubby Brown) who was my Nannas neighbour when they both lived in Grangetown (Middlesbrough). He once bought me a Pint... of Orange (I was 8) and he gave me a signed copy of one of his VHS' which I had until a few years ago when I put it in my stapdads coffin as he was a big fan of Chubby.
Really enjoy your reviews , 👍🙂 🇬🇧
I love this 😂😂😂
Meat shops are called Butchers Shops in the UK. I never really considered that maybe America doesn’t have them.
This show was a one off for sure. Loved watching you react to this.
This show is very British humour, you travel deep enough into the English countryside and most of it will come true.
Pauline from the jobcentre is the best character
My fav is Pops, the thing is...in the last 3 episodes he was a monster.
She is hilarious!
Got to watch Inside Number 9!
And Benidorm!
I have both on my list bud!
Any one else think eddy from bottom would shop at the local shop from this show
Dude, you gotta watch these episodes with the commentary on, even if just for yourself, the 3 actors/writers and the fourth writer sit down and you get so much info, it's f*cking hilarious 🤣
You’ll fall off your chair if you get to the beginning of series 2. “Hello Dave?…”
Stick with this series. It starts slow but it gets WAY crazier and funnier as it goes. Nobody understands how to make horror funny like these guys. They know their stuff.
It's not crazy, maybe your crazy😵💫😵💫
The butchers storylines season 2, it’s fantastic
It was a running gag that we never found out what the “Special stuff” from the butchers was. The only thing that the creators said was that it wasn’t human meat because they thought that was too cliche.
Probably an animal that no one would want to try and eat in this country like horse or zebra and so on
😂😂❤
Bring on hair lip🧚🏼
What fun!
@@finncullen Now Helmut, now!
He will take you in his German mouth!
Don't worry it gets more weird 🤪😜🙃
Just to let you know there a few new and newish shows on British TV that have won awards and are classics of the future. From the newest: Stath Lets Flats, Derry Girls, Fleabag. You might have copyright probs so just watch them yourself to get into them and just as a relaxation. I should warn you Derry Girls set in Northern Irelend where the accents are quite strong so you might need subtitles but you’re probably becoming an expert by now.
@2:51 is that Jeff from Peep Show?
What’s going on? What’s all this shouting? We’ll have no trouble here…
Brilliant, just a shame that one of their most popular characters (Papa Lazarou - you've yet to come across him) is now frowned upon.
For the wrong reasons.PL is NOT a "blackface" character as the wokeists would have us believe, Ironically and metaphorically, the character is much darker than that.
Nobody actually knows what the meat is it's almost like a drug deal and left upto our imagination
Wasn't it never actually revealed what the meat was? Might be imagining that though.
there are two hints in two episodes. In the bushes at night and at Hilary´s bedroom in the last episode of season 2.
or season 3, cant tell right now.
The clue is in the butcher's name, Hilary Briss. Briss is Hebrew for Circumcision.
A few others have said the same lol
I won that one. I won the mum's !!!
This isn't a comedy show its actually a documentary about life in the North of England.
Another show to check out if you can fit it in. The royle family.
Its usually always set in the family home and rarely ventures out of it, but the interactions between the family members is comedy gold.
Cheers josh
He's doing that, he's up to the end of series 2.
@@safeashouses211 sorry i didn't realise. Are the reactions on youtube or some other host?
It's just refreshing to see an american reacting to comedy us brits grew up with that may not be broadcast or even understood overseas.
@@therealdeal9600 He's got a Patreon page. It costs £4.20 per month, but it's well worth it IMO. Loads of content on there now: www.patreon.com/AfterWorkReactions/posts
Do people still make sitcoms? Or have they been stamped out by the modern world?
Well done josh, you guessed right on the human meat 🍖
No one knows what the special stuff is, theres a theory that its human cow hybrid meat.
I always thought hillary briss the butcher got his meat from the local shops victims
@@haberdasheryandspam I always assumed it had something to do with farmer tinsel...
@@ricky-lee7553 dont spoil it!
LOL thanks bud!
You should react to still game
America's might taste nice give are country back,
