Does anyone else absolutely LOVE the part of the melody here 0:26? It makes me feel so inspired. It's unfortunate Chopin didn't expand on this part of the melody but I think that was on purpose. In my opinion this piece is meant to feel lonely and make you feel like you're falling into a kind of sadness along with Chopin, as if he is telling you a sad story but instead of you just hearing the story, you're encapsulated in it and drawn to the emotions that come with.
I've always considered the Nocturne pieces as that, yeah - very sad and melancholic, with small bursts of happiness in them to make them that much more missed when they are lost.
An internal struggle between happiness and joy, against sadness and despair. Or finding the bits of happiness in a dark and cold world.
It's a rollercoaster ride for sure lol
@@firstnameIastname I completely agree. It goes back to that saying, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.” And Chopin is a master at making you feel that way. However, I still really do love that section!

All of Chopin's compositions are very special and unique.
But this one in particular has something very hypnotic, dark,
liberating and beautiful that i cannot explain.
It seems like magic, or perhaps something inspired by the gods.
I agree but the beautiful dark quality that you're hearing: it's got alot to do with the key that this is played in. When the piece is played in another brighter sounding major key for example, it sounds almost like a warm bouncy spring day!

quaque if you aren’t good with octaves, you should do some exercises. However, the main part of this piece (IMO) is the interprétations and dynamics. :)

When I first listened to this, I was in my grandmas kitchen and we were baking together. We made a trifle and some roast potatoes and they were absolutely amazing. I just remember this because This came on the radio whilst I was decorating the trifle. It will always be a memory I will hold and whenever I listen to this it reminds me of my grandma :)

My favorite part of this piece has always been from 4:19 to the end. It's like the light at the end of the tunnel only to realize you're winding up back in the tunnel again. The light part is so beautiful and then slowly but surely it seamlessly transitions back into that ominous vibe again. I have a hard time understanding how a human mind can put something together so brilliantly.
I love that part too, because it reminded me of the calm periods in storms or battles, when you’re picking up the fallen pieces and trying to go on as normal, but then the winds start back up again and the cannons start firing once more. Sort of like the eye of a hurricane being quiet and peaceful, if you get my drift.
I don't know any composers which can touch me to the depth of my soul as like as Chopin. Every time I listen to Ballade no.1 g minor, nocturne c# minor,nocturne b-flat minor,piano concerto e minor I crying, because it's incredible spectrum of emotions, depression,hope. This the reason why I love Chopin so much.

Everyone mentions the part around the 030 part but the last thirty seconds breaks my heart every single time as I’m holding my dying mothers hand by her bedside . No other single piece of music in all my 53 years has evoked such raw , pure emotion and sadness as the final minute of this piece . Beautifully played .

@@clvsidy The horror is when you try to play this and realize its actually way more difficult than it sounds but not giving up but then being stuck on this piece for two months still struggling to fit eleven notes in six beats or twenty in twelve.

This is so beautifully interpretted I can't stop playing it. I absolutely love the part at 0:24-0:32, I could loop these 8 seconds for eternity and enjoy every moment 💖
Thats the best part if the noctutne would develop this idea same as 9 2 it could have been one of the best. But the middle long part is quite repetitive and not so exciting.
@@handznet first time I was listening I kept waiting and waiting for that passage to reappear but it never did, the main idea of the middle passage felt like a tease for it

The melody from 0:24 to 0:32 really hits different. So sad that Chopin didnt include this certain melody into any parts of the nocturne but only the start.

those last several bars really burn, that rallentando and a key change just before the final closing chords, so sublime, absolutely ethereal

@@octave11thpianist58 If they hadn't already learned it before that comment, then most likely they're still working on it. It's a Henle 8, and it's 9 minutes long (depending on who plays it, obviously). I would say that it takes people at least 10 months to learn, and some people said that it took them a year. My cousin said it took him a little more than 10 months to learn, and he's as skilled as they are. So, I'd say give it some more time and don't give up hope!

This piece gives the feeling like if your would be in at a friday night, and start to think in all the things that make you suffer (until 1:37), and after something inside you starts to make you keep calm and just enjoy the little cold wind that the night brings to you. Then, after 4:57, you back to the reality, but ends knowing that everything is not just suffering, but you have some peace episodes too.

You make it look so easy. I tried learning this piece a long time ago, and I can tell you, the opening and closing passages are very hard. The melodic middle sections are a bit easier, but by no means a cakewalk.

You can refill your soul and get rid of depression, stress. You can drink a cup of hot chocolate and listen to music while watching snowflakes falling down...
You can enjoy your final weeks of life, maybe days or even hours with music. You can understand death is not an ending. It's just an ending of a chapter and a starting point of another. Music is this, what makes you powerful, the thing that lets you to understand the life. Music is necessary. You can't live without it. That's the meaning of life...

I love this piece; it’s very challenging, but I’m determined to learn it. I’m ver determined to learn this piece, and I’m so so grateful for this person playing it on the keyboard, so I can the fingering right; I am getting tips from online teachers I have subscribed to
Pop lover's will never have the attention span it takes to listen to any good Chopin piece.
But most pop lovers have the retention of the common housefly. It saddens me to see what music has become.

Quite possibly one of my favorite piano pieces. You played this beautifully! I really liked the slower pace you played it in, I've heard played quite fast in the past, especially the beginning part. I love Chopin's nocturnes, I had a CD of these and they used to help me fall asleep when I was younger....they still do actually :)

I know it is not related the original emotion of this music but it motivates me when I get overwhelmed. I'm a biology student and this was the piece that one of my best friends played when we first met in the science camp when we were in high school. It reminds me of why I chose this major and how passionate and curious I am about the whole universe. Thanks for bringing all the good memories back :)

Once I read a story about Chopin where he had all these masterpieces before he died. He wanted his sister to burn them, and after he died, the sister played the pieces and she was like:” I can’t burn them!” and published them. Some of these pieces were Nocturne op. 9 no. 2 and Fantaisie Impromptu, some of his most famous pieces.

I loved the slowed down interpretation. I was teaching myself this song awhile back but lost patience with learning the timing on those early runs.
This brought me to tears. The good kind. The interpretation and speed are masterful, and I think this slightly slower pace compared to other interpretations heightens the emotionality, and adds space where it was lacking. The composition by Chopin has a meditative, almost sacrosanct holiness to it not unlike Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, though the Sonata takes me skyward more towards an outer kind of space, whereas this Nocturne takes me inward, more towards inner space. Both are good, both are necessary.
I don’t know why this reminds me that state of happiness is just a fleeting moment and that makes me sad yet my heart is full of hope and love
I know Nocturne Op.9 No.2 is more famous than this (based on my observations) but ahhh this is also beautiful. Can't even explain how beautiful this masterpiece is.

So effortless. I like that I can see the hands too. If I could learn music like this when I was a kid I think I would have stuck with it. But now 20 years later I am relearning to play. To play this piece, at this pace, without sounding flat or boring, the pianist must be incredibly talented! I personally prefer this piece played just a tad faster, but this interpretation gave me completely different vibes from the more usual presentation. Thank you!

I love this piece, I discovered Chopin with this piece and started playing piano for it. I love your piano interpretations, too, they're played really well: I listen to you when I've to study. Sorry for my lousy English but I'm from Italy, and in my country English teaching is really really messed up to say the least. Keep it Up!

Чтоб оценить произведения Моцарта, Бетховена, Чайковского, Листа, Рахманинова и прочих, нужно для начала увидеть на клавиатуре пальцы исполнителей, после прослушать произведения закрытыми глазами, увидев картины цвета, линии, образы, свет и прочие эскизы и зарисовки этих произведений. После обязательно необходимо хотя бы три года отучиться в музыкальной школе на каком-нибудь инструменте. И прослушав все известные классические произведения попытавшись придумать что-то собственное, спустя некоторое время сравнить его с признанными шедеврами!

The left hand harmonies of both pieces have arpeggios of an Ab major chord, so thats probably why

@@Syzygizing you're right. I didn't mean to imply passion vs no passion, just Kassia's playing is so beautiful. I dont find Rousseau to have the same feeling behind it. I believe Rousseau uses multiple pianists and each performance is different(?). Kassia just seems a step ahead of the other visual style players on youtube.
