It might be helpful to view this coworker as a code to crack, and simply try asking more questions until you find one that works. Try questions like "How's your day been going?" or "What have you been up to?" These are more open-ended, and you can see how they respond.

From then on I started to realize the importance of being polite and friendly as much as I could, since the relationships with colleagues are only built during work. I'm trying my best to add some of these to my daily routine but I'm find it incredibly difficult as I just don't have the energy a lot of them have. I'm in a team which is slightly unbalanced too, I'm the only male in the team and all my hobbies and interests none of them follow.. I kind of interact occasionally in the conversations but find myself distant to most as I can't relate to them. I'll try a few of these methods, thank you.

I'm sure he doesn't care what airline he's using,it's just more fake talk. What was the point in that small chit chat? I don't get it. You hear this kind of chattering everyday in restaurants,clothing stores,hair salons,barbor shops,work places,just about every public place. I think small talk is a waste of words and people engaging in it are being phony or they care what other people think,and so they feel like they have to say something.
