I completely trust the advice given on each of Annemarie's video. Why? Because I feel so comfortable listening to her, no matter what she is saying. The cadence and vocabulary are so gentle, smooth, succinct, and pertinent. ♥
Wow, Valarie. This may be the kindest comment and highest compliment I've ever received. You absolutely made my day. Thank you. I'm thrilled to know my lessons are so useful to you. 🥰
@@fuzzywuzzy318 Hahaha My daughter's boyfriend told her that our family sounds so old fashioned because of the words we use. My kids used words like "concoction," "instigator," and "discombobulated" as tiny children. Words are beautiful. ♥
@@Speakconfidentenglish I was so thrilled when I first saw your video two days ago. I have been looking for work place related English videos or movies for too long and I finally found yours accidentally. I wish you could add more examples to your videos so I can imitate them in different situations. Could you please also do a video about how to respond or what I should do when my coworker or boss told us something like she/he is going to have a surgery. Also, what presents are appropriate for this situation. What should I do if I received Christmas gift from my boss? Thank you! 🙏

P.s. this is not the full summary so you have to watch the whole video 😀 1- start with a compliment and then ask a connected question . - I love that sweater. Is it new? - Those are cute shoes. Where'd you get them? 2- Get the conversation flowing with engaging questions . - how was your weekend? - how long have you worked here? - what do you like about the new neighborhood? - what kinds of things do you do on the weekends for fun ? 3- Ask for advice or get someone's opinion - what your favorite pizza place on a Friday night? - where's the best place to get coffee near th office? Effective question staters: What are your thoughts on..? What are your thoughts about..? Ex: Hey..Rebecca, it's nice to meet you. I'm sarah.. the new part-time accountant here..I'll admit that I am a little nervous on my first day..but I am really excited to get to know everyone..and I'd love to find out where the best places to get coffee around here..what's your favorite near the office?
Hi AnneMarie, I think tis is one of the best videos posted about small talk, the video is short, perfectly structured, and totally clear. Thanks for your devoted work
Hi teacher,I am your fans from China,I watch your veido during on my way to work when I ride subway everyday😊 It's useful for me,you are so gentel teacher,I LIKE your style and you are the first one who make me leave a comment here till now🌹
Hi Annmarie I like your specific lesson on getting conversation going. This is really helpful as being around native speakers is a bit overwhelming. Thanks ,it's very helpful
Simply ! What ur doing is out of this world ! I really enjoy listening to ur lessons , they're really helpful ! I'll try to.pay this forward ! TBH, I'm blown away by the way ur speaking ! My regards form Syria ✋
Thank you so much for the video. I really appreciate your effort to explain the topic, even I'm not a native speaker but I could understand everything you said because of your awesome way . Thanks again.
It is always an enjoyable moment to watch your videos. Your lesson is very helpful to me because I am just so bad at making a small conversation with my colleagues. Thank you so much!
This would be my Q: Hello, I would like to know what the best and the worst was on your first day at work? As you can imagine this is my first day 🙂. Regards from 🇵🇪
Haha! You're exactly right, Rachel. You were the person I had in mind when talking about why Americans ask, "Where did you buy..." and similar questions. 🥰
Really enjoyed this lesson, thanks for it. In some countries, the weather is a common topic for small talk and there are many questions that can be raised around it. For instance, "it was such lovely weather this weekend, have you had a chance to enjoy it? How?". Weather connects people :-) Regarding complements, it may be worth highlighting that in many cultures it is OK to complement things but not people. And when complementing a thing, one should be confident that the thing is new, indeed. Otherwise, it could be quite embracing to get a response that the person has been coming with this thing to work for ages and you've noticed it only now. That's probably not the impression that small talk is intended to make.
Great video, very helpful, thank you. After watching this I noticed I always asked the questions which can be answered by one word and wondered why conversation went cold, and now I know how to ask better questions.
Americans are really into small talks(in a good way)…It’s still very hard for me because where I’m from people don’t have the habit for small talks…we either go straight to the point or just don’t talk…like most of the time I have no interest in my coworkers weekend it’s hard to sound genuine and keep the conversation flow
Hello Annemary! I enjoyed this video as much as usual. Thanks for your helpful tips. This would be my short talk question for you: how could I get a pronunciation as beautiful as yours? Love it! 😍
People who look like me may also get passive-aggressive “compliments” and “questions” from people who wish to make fun of us. It can be hard to know the difference between a potential friend and someone who is digging for information to sound authentically connected to you when they lie about you later. That’s why I’m searching these videos even as a native speaker 😅
1-I see your box with colored pens that we need for our work.Could you say what store you've bought it? 2 -Nancy, how long do you work here and you can say about attitude between coworker? 3-I heard you like the music. What's kind of it ? Could you recommended orchestra with good taste?
