  • The one aspect of Ducati's 2025 strategy that appeared to be resolved during the Mugello race weekend was Marteen's promotion to the factory squad for the following season, joining Pecco Bagnaia.
All of a sudden, that was different.
It's unclear exactly why that is the case yet. It wasn't fresh knowledge that Marquez in factory colors would present a huge narrative and business potential for Ducati. Nor was the margin by which he is outperforming all other riders riding Ducati’s built to 2023 specs.
What altered was Marquez's declaration that he would not relocate to Pramac in order to obtain a bike meeting the 2025 specs. However, he also stated that he was certain he wanted a bike that met 2025 specs.

No brainer for Ducati. They either sign the best rider in the world, or watch him win the title for KTM or Aprilia.

THAT is a HUGE presumption given that he is not winning on the 2023 which is still better than the KTM and Aprillia ....it is absolutley NOT the case he could win on anything....proven by so much losing in spite of giving it everything ....I'm not saying it would not be a RISK for Ducati to let him go I'm just saying you are being a bit presumptious IMHO I will say that NOW? He has ZERO choice but to win or at the very least finish 2025 no lower than 2nd,...and even then ONLY to Paco....anything less will be utter failure....no pressure right Marc? lol

Either of them deserved the seat.
If Ducati provide Gresini GP25 for 2025 and with full factory support, then I think they might have keep Martin for Factory seat and Marc on Gresini.
But I think thats something not easy to execute.
Anyway congrats both MM93, JM89, Ducati Lenovo and Aprilla. All winners

Shame for Ducati. Márquez will not be GOAT. The king will be Vale for ever. Martin is far beyond greatest rider than him..Marquez has always been a selfish creature who puts the physical integrity of other riders at risk..Remember what he had done in Vale about not getting his 10th championship..Remember what he had done in Portimao resulting in the injury of Bastianini and Oliveira. He and his brother didn't show any respect to Vale when he decided to end his career.. We'll see what time will do to Peco...

Marquez is ruthless, no doubt about that. I have no particular problem with that. No one is forcing anyone to race against him. Step into a championship fight, expect a championship opponent.

Marc was born in February 1993 - he turned 32 in Feb 2024. Martin got justifiably upset because he was definitely 'on a promise', and clearly next in line for the factory Ducati, after riding the Pramac bike for years, winning so many races, and leading the championship for most of the last three seasons. He heard that Marc was pressuring the factory to take him into the factory team by refusing the ride at Pramac (even though it is the exact same factory bike) and decided to quit. He could see what was coming. I think that was perfectly understandable from his point of view, and his determination to win on the Aprilia should not be underestimated.
Marc will crash and whinge, people will get hurt and races will be stopped, and again he will get the bike changed to suit him (as he has always done) and Martin, Bastianini, Bagnaia, Pramac Racing, Gresini Racing (and even KTM) will have been stuffed around completely while he held the whole sport to ransom until he got what he wanted, at the expense of so many others. What a hero.

Sorry, yes - 31. My bad! Still fairly close to retirement in this sport to be taking rides from promising (and deserving) younger riders like Martin. To be clear - I respect Marc's ability, I just don't think the whole sport should be derailed so he can 'jump the queue' for the top ride. Next year will be interesting, no doubt, but Marc should have accepted that others deserved the ride ahead of him. I think Bagnaia will be seriously discouraged by Ducati's choice. The negative impacts of this decision will be felt by many in the sport, all to pander to one ego, who thought the Pramac bike - the exact same as the factory team's - wasn't good enough for him, after just seven meetings with the brand.

Sad for Jorge. Ducati will pay the price of their decision. 2025 will be the best year, this is 2015 backwards. I can not wait to see the Ducati garage divided by a wall, Italians united to honor their country and revenge 46 tenth lost championship 10 years after. Marc is an opportunist and only work on others construction, while others build. What a mistake by Ducati in the moment where the rules are just about to change, or wasn´t it? Can´t wait...

Marquez is fast, but look at all the chaos he brings now, look at how he left Honda, Ducati might end up worse for this in the end?

    • @timakey4678

Chaos? When it came to this poker hand Marquez went all in calling Ducati’s Check. Ducati had to fold because Marquez, in all likelihood, wasn’t bluffing.

Where did you see the mess?
Marc on a bike in 2013, takes it deep. This is not chaos. This is called skill. It left Choda without causing any damage. Honda suffered a loss when they didn't keep Dani.

@@timakey4678 If you look at it from a perspective other than whats best for Marquez, you see the current leader for championship and the current number 4 in the championship leaving Ducati for the two closest rivals, Aprilia and KTM. Both of whom are younger and probably have most of their career ahead of them. 2027 will see new engine etc. that will most likely favor younger pilots. Pramac, home of the championship leader and longtime Ducati satellite are now potentially leaving for Yamaha. Data collection for Ducati will undoubtedly suffer, and that seems to be of great concern for all manufacturers. Then there is Marquez himself, and he allegedly has a history of doing whats best for him, per Pedrosa and Stoner. Current No1 Bagnaia will probably find tension between himself and Marquez and Ducati. All of that takes away from the racing focus. If ducati stops being dominant do you think Marquez will stick around and sort it out? Again, it's not about his ability to go fast, because he's got that.

Ducati might soon face a situation similar to what Honda is experiencing. Marc will force Ducati to develop their bike specifically to his riding style and this gonna result in the rest of the Ducati riders struggling to adapt and ride effectively. All I can see is Honda 2.0 loading.
