    In case this needs any further clarification, this is an obvious Regular Car Reviews tribute, although it didn't start like that.
    It was meant to be a simple guitar review, but it turns out I share way too much of Mr. Regular's and The Roman's sense of humor.
    I was brought up in the same era, played the same video games and watched the same shows.
    It's no wonder I tend to make the same kind of observations and BROWN jokes.
    By the time I noticed it was really close to an RCR video, I had to choose between changing directions or steering straight into it, and since this is the least NOT A CAR guitar I'll ever do (with the exception of my Cort Sunset I maybe), I chose to dress myself as Mr. Regular and embrace the whole thing (I couldn't do a Roman song, I'm not up there yet, and also, his voice and style are truly one-of-a-kind).
    This doesn't mean this is a one-off though, I will come back with more of the same shit.
    I'll have a different text font and my own voice, but the same kind of traumatized take on other guitars.
    Oh, and if you've never watched RCR, you're an ass and you should rectify that immediately: / @regularcars

      That was the idea, and the reason I called it Regular Guitar Reviews. I've made other reviews, but since this guitar is somewhat inspired on a bike it felt like an obvious stupid joke I could drill to the ground. I even linked a couple RCR videos at the end.

      I stink at demoing though, and since there's so many great demos of this thing out there, I chose to focus on the other aspects of it. I did the same with a Squier '51 I repaired a few weeks ago, and plan to do it with some other guitars.

    This is lovely and funny af.
    Real quick question - this revstar, with p90s or a telecaster? I've only had a 24 fret HH schecter and wanted to get something with single coils for more clean playing

    • @lonerjuan
      @lonerjuan  3 года назад

      Thanks! I have a Squier CV 50s Tele as well and they're pretty different beasts, both very versatile, although I wouldn't make a definitive choice without playing them first.
      The Revstar definitely wins the ergonomics fight, it just plays itself, and those P90s are on a league of their own. They can go from jazz to metal like nothing, can be very sweet and clean or work just as well through a few distortion pedals stacked on top of each other. And the sound of the guitar has kind of a semi acoustic character to it, very sweet and rich and a strong attack to it and sustain for ages.
      Teles in contrast are a very old school design, with more difficult upper fret access, although I wouldn't change a thing on them. It's no wonder it hasn't changed in so many decades, the formula works. And coming from the Schecter, you might find the longer scale more familiar, although the style is completely different, way more than the more modern Revstar. Also, there's something about the sound of the Tele that just can't be matched by anything, and especially when recording I find myself grabbing it constantly. I've used it on at least half the songs I've recorded, it complements perfectly whatever is on the other channels, and it cuts through the mix incredibly well whenever I use it as the lead. It's a great raw sound you can shape into lots of things. There's so many artists of different genres that have it as their main guitar it's hard to argue with it.
      That said, when I need something I can just rely on to grab before I leave the house, plug into anything I might find and play comfortably standing up, the Revstar is the definitive choice. It's an impressive guitar that can do pretty much anything without much effort, and it's very well made.

    • @rohanjangam511
      @rohanjangam511 3 года назад +1

      @@lonerjuan This is the most detailed difference I've gotten from anyone. Thank you so much for getting back! I think I've found myself inclining a lot towards the P90 revstar. Might just pick it up in a few weeks.
      Of course, as you said, the teles have almost got it all already. And I was always going to go for it, until I heard of the revstar. But maybe I'd go for a tele sometime later. I'm going to check out your originals. Excited!
      Again, really appreciate you taking time to type it all out. Sorry it took me a while to check. Stay well.

    this or the rs620?
    I'm also comparing this to the fender player series or a 2020 epiphone lp custom.

    • @lonerjuan
      @lonerjuan  3 года назад

      The only non-visual difference I can think of between the 502 and the 620 are the pickups, so I'd base the choice on that: P90s vs. humberdinkers.
      The other choices are very different philosophies so it's hard to compare.

      I've been known. This was deliberate though. I've done other reviews, but since this guitar was inspired by bikes, I felt like drilling the stupid joke down to the mantle of the earth.
      That's why it's called "Regular Guitar Reviews" and there's RCR videos linked at the end. I wanted this to be a clear tribute.

    The aluminum bridge sucks, but if you chose to change it, be aware the Tone pros bridges on the higher models are not a direct replacement, the aluminum bridge is wider, so it’s holes in the body are further back,
    Mine sounds great now, but the break angle is bad, because some string adjusters are all the way forward using the stock post holes, I have a super light touch, so I don’t have tuning issue but my hi E is starting to sound a little odd, I may have to remount the bridge, but I won’t get a fresh clean hole, it will share some of the original hole, and therefore need wood filler, I hope it does not change the tone.
    I don’t get why the model with inlay on the neck, usually the sign of a higher end model, is not available on the top 2 models, which are dots, yet those are the models with the tone pros bridge, all the lower models including the 620 have the aluminum bridge, which to me has a weird Bass honk, and indistinct treble response. With the tone pros bridge, and Seymour pick ups
    now it does sound as good as or better than a led Paul. So essentially I bought the 820 or higher. Same $ spent, but no nice inlay on those where the tone pros bridges are stock hardware.
    But these are made in Japan, fabulous wood working, the neck frets, and action were awesome, right out of the box, instantly became my favorite guitar to play, and once I did the upgrades, more awesome sounds. I added switching, SD pick up mounts, includes switch’s for series, split, parallel wiring, plus I wanted independent volumes for both pickups, so I installed a stacked tone/volume set in place of the tone knob, making the front volume control a pick up mix control
    I prefer heavy sounds, but this is an axe you could play any style on, I mostly play jazz, but this thing WILL rock out too, even country sounds in the split positions. These are bad ass guitars!

    • @lonerjuan
      @lonerjuan  3 года назад

      That's a lot of info! I wonder why you thought the bridge sucked. Mine is great!

    • @jonathanstrand2474

      @@lonerjuan I’m sure it’s just my ear, and the sound I like to get. It’s also my 80’s EVM12L and my Boogie 5:25. I use the extreme setting, at 2/3rds gain, but mostly play Jazz on the neck PU. Go figure. I would not say I mine is your average set up, and what I didn’t like could also be the heavy compression I use with aluminum bridge not working so well together. I changed the pickups first, the axe still had what I didn’t like, but the tone pros? Bam what a sound I get now. I just think Yamaha should have sold the 620 with a tone pros bridge, and for a higher price, I like neck inlay, but only 1 other guitar I own has that, and they are just blocks, not my favorite
      I’d been playing an old SG for years, Seymour JB is the only pick up I want for the bridge, 5 of my 10 guitars have one, the other 5 don’t get played much anymore!
      To each his own, it’s a fabulous guitar either way🙂
