Ironical. All the battles of Panipat were between Indian inhabitants and Invaders. Well technically Akbar was not invader because Babar was the first ruler of the Mughal empire but he fought against a Hindu king Hemu.
But all the 3 battles original Indians lost in Panipat. Panipat certainly had some significance that all battles were fought there and Indians never learnt fighting 3 battles at the same place even after losing the previous ones.

Marathas defeated Mahmud Shah in 1782 in Lahore. After that, Sikhs wiped out Afghans from Peshawar and now they are restricted to the west of Durrand line.
