In 1985, when I was 17, I was a big fan of Swedish Tennis players and living near Hamburg I went to see them live at the Hamburg tournament. I was lucky enough to have tickets for the QF, Semis and Final. I was stunned by what I saw from Milo who easily beat up all my idols without even dropping a set: QF Nystroem 6:2, 6:2, SF Wilander 6:1, 6:2, Final Sundstroem 6:4,6:1,6:4. All three of them looked helpless against Mecir who play effortless and even seemed tobe a little bored by the same regular top-spin stuff these guys were throwing at him. Think he even played a wooden racket, Snauwaert. Will never forget this, truly great player with a unique style.
Great Player! I remember when I was young I was more a power baseline attacker, but when I was in that "better no tennis day" sometimes I began imitating his style and always I drove my opponents crazy😁
The big cat, such an apt description/title, loved watching Miloslav, what a humble and great player. He came here to NZ once, loved his fishing. Cheers Basu !!
Mecir is such a Legend! He, along with Leconte, Nalbandian are among the best in the world not to have won a Slam. He could read any serve at a time when a break meant a death sentence for your oponent because the courts, the balls were so fast. His vision of the ball was second to none, he was a chess master and he moved so fast...all these legends from the 80 's and 90's are so humble and say they could not beat today's champions...I beg to differ..It would be interesting to watch...I think they would give them a run for their money.
One of the most amazing underrated players. The cat 🐈 He should have won a GS, 2 finals to lose to Lendl. 1987 WCT win against McEnroe, and his 1988 win against Wilander at Wimbledon were special wins and beautiful tennis. Retired too early before we got to see the very best if him. Thank you for the memories big man. ❤
Great interview with a "one-of-a-kind" tennis player and person. I admired Miloslav's game and court presence and was drawn to him the first time I saw him play. I once heard television commentator Bud Collins say that Mecir appeared less like a professional tennis player and more like a renaissance poet. I recently learned he rejected the trappings of modern top-tier tennis, in that he lacked a personal coach, physio and entourage. I learned in this interview that we both used Borg's Donnay "All-Wood" racket until the bitter end of wood. Cheers to Miloslav and to Basu for an entertaining interview!
I think he's about to replace Rog as the GOAT, but not sure about "most complete." Novak could never serve and volley with any level of success, nor can he "chip/charge."

He was a great player! So sad he got injured and was forced to retire.
I love you Milos.
Miloš Mečíř - obrovský borec!!!! Im from Czech republik.

Mecir was a magician. I just liked the way he played. Top man.
Wonderful interview! So happy to see the great Mr. Mecir alive & looking so well 😎

Big Cat should have won some grand slams - loved his playing style and demeanor on court.
grew up watching the great mecir he was so smooth; his matches with lendl were legendary

Cheers to Miloslav and to Basu for an entertaining interview!
Mecir and McEnroe were the two most beautiful players I've ever seen. Very different but very alike in the way they felt the ball.
The quickest slow motion of all times ! I loved his game and still enjoy videos with him playing
My idol!
One of my favourite players: the best two handed backhand. "Gattone" Mecir
immenso grandissimo genio/ immense great genius
No one was able to hold the ball like he did, making passing shots at an impossible angle and unpredictable.
Seems like a really nice guy.
I'm sure Miloslav Mecir would have won a Grand Slam, had it not been for back problems.
with a ordinary service, he would win many grand slams
the "Wilander buster"
Just kept running into Lendl at the wrong time and wrong place ..
Players who should and could have won a grand slam title or more grand slam titles: Mecir, Medvedev, Enqvist, Pioline, Kafelnikov.
Leconte
Nalbandian
mecir- absolute legend thank-you for this interview I've always though Mecir never got the credit how great he was
Novak has replaced Roger as THE MOST COMPLETE PLAYER OF ALL TIME !!! No doubt !!!
I think he's about to replace Rog as the GOAT, but not sure about "most complete." Novak could never serve and volley with any level of success, nor can he "chip/charge."
Djokovic a complete player? What a Djoke! 😂
What has this got to do with Mecir?
The Cat!!! Such an inspirational player. He was one of the most enjoyable tennis players to watch ever!
Why was that his nickname? I could not find the reason on google...
Cause he moved like a cat! The Italian fans started calling him like that as far as I remember. @@miss19lolo
