It was fun to chat with Michalina and test the Saphona, very interesting instrument for the price, you can contact them at www.mminstruments.com/hurdy-gurdies, the thing that I liked the most was that they are willing to improve, every piece of feedback that I gave was written and that means a lot! :P
Remember:
I also give private lessons on Skype or FB video you can contact me on 👉👉 Zanfoneando@gmail.co
As most of you may know I also make cool leather straps for your gurdies, you can have a look at them among other resources at www.Hurdygurdystraps.com 😱
Hey Sergio, it was a pleasure to sit down together and talk gurdies! :) Thank you so much for posting this review, hope to see you again soon!
My pleasure Michalina! Next video in MM workshop Poland? :P !!
Yes! ☺️
Thank you @Michalina I'm seriously saving up to purchase one of these. As a beginner I don't want to spend money on something that won't last me, and these things look amazing and not too pricey for what is provided. So glad to hear that you also love the low sounds and it does sound amazing.
The only thing I'm not sure about is do I need the additional drone/trompette/capos etc. I will endeavor to find out the answers to all my questions before placing my order! :D
@@JamesKaplonek Hi James, sorry for a belated answer - 2 months is a lot of time! - but I started a series of videos that explain Saphona, so regarding strings you might want to check this one out: ruclips.net/video/BUcgNPVhgJM/видео.html :)
It's so amazing to be part of the hurdy gurdy community, this is such a tiny, unique but welcoming group of people. Michalina being an important part of it!
I missed your videos so much! And it's so amazing that your new video is with one of my favorite gurdists - totally made my night better :)
You made my night with this comment!! Thanks for beeing here and support the channel
What a gorgeous machine and well played for sure. What a haunting, mournful sound and at the same time it can be: get up and get jiggy. A marvel to the ear and to the inner mind…
One can’t deny the mesmeric affects of that drone…
Hay que hacer algún featuring de metal con este señor! Excelente trabajo!!!!
This video was the reason I ordered one of the Saphona! Thank you so much for this video!
Awesome!
I finally put a down-payment on mine a couple weeks ago. The waiting list is a solid 2 years but the wait will be so worth it 👌
Hi, I'm thinking on this as an option, did you add the extra capo that Sergio suggested on the video? And is really 2 years, those are good news for my pockets as I will be able to save the money but sad for my soul as I wanted to start to learn to play it as soon as possible
2 years is a quite "normal" time on gurdies, I know some makers that have less waiting list
Like Sedo García, ELZ and Marco Gamarra ;)
Also Martí Romero, makes very decent symphonies in less than a year
@@tatymillan personally, I added 2 extra melody strings but no capos 😌
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats i do agree that it is normal! I'm just an impatient person lol
You will miss the capos from c to d a lot
Yay the comeback of Zanfoneando! Make more tutorials I'm getting my gurdy in one month after your advise!!
Hahaha thank you, comments like this encourage me to make more vids :P
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats It's nice then because hurdy tutorials aren't the most commons on RUclips! (unlike guitar and piano but I don't play theses) 👍
Oh and I love your intro music!!
Thanks so much for this video Sergio, I've been trying to decide which gurdy I want to go with for my first and I've been leaning a lot towards the Saphona for the affordability and for the low rich full sound. This showed it off so well!
If you go for a low sounding machine this is your gurdy :)
Im so HAPPY with mine and greatful that you both share this video with the world...Keep Krankin 🎶🎶🎶
Thank you Dee!!
Awesome - very close to mine being ready, I think! I just have to learn to maintain it and play it then! A life-work! I should add - the team at MM / Ancestore are amazing at communications - they have sent me photos in production, and even videos about specific questions that I had before I ordered. (I'm not sure how much they need my advert though - I think that they are really busy now - which is really deserved). X
=) Two great gurdy heads!
Alright, after reviewing everything I could and watching your videos along with others and e-mailing makers back and forth. I've decided on purchasing one of these for my first gurdy. I opted for drone and trumpet capos, and 3 melody strings (low g, low c and high c) When it finally comes, if you're still willing, I'd love to receive lessons. Thanks again Sergio, you are awesome!
The only thing I'd change is the Melody strings to low G low low C and Octave G, the rest is perfekt! :)
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats So, high G? Is that what you mean by Octave? (sorry, I've been watching youtube videos on theory but I don't know anything yet lol)
Nice one Sergio, it's really good isn't it! Feels like an older Weichselbaumer to play I thought.
Yeah! The keyboard is amazing, it blew my mind
What type of wood was used on this one? Love the sound!
Nice to see a short review of the Gurdy! I will get mine in the second half of next year. Where did you see room for improvements? I'm curious :) greetings, Marc
Hey Marc, that will be discussed soon, but mostly tuners, trompette string material, regulable drones need tools to adjust and some more little thingies here and there, still a good instrument though! :)
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Allright, I'm looking forward to it but thanks already for the summary :) Maybe If they look into your suggestions and realize them, my gurdy could benefit from it ;P
Hi Sergio I love the sound of this instrument however the web page no longer seems to be up. Looking for a decent budget gurdy to get me started
What Eluveitie song was that?
It is perfect. The waiting is intense for me!!
Now the waiting is 23 months :p
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Normally mine should be ready for May! 🤩
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats And I read you propose Skype courses, if so you can count on me 👌
@@ValCharis awesome, just write me when you have your gurdy :) !!
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Hell yes >:3 thank you!!
I'd love to have one of those....
But they are by far not that affordable anymore...
You can check the Aplo model
Why if you are a beginner or for a second gurdy ?
Because it's cheap enough for a beginner and good enough to fit the needs of a player that for example plays a traditional gurdy and looks for something more modern concept with more low strings :p
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Ok I think people that want a higher string set up can ask for it. And also with one or two optional strings you get these higher notes.
Yes, but the concept of this gurdy is definitely deep modern sound ;)
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats I ordered one. First gurdy,
I can not wait to receive it. Delivery in a little over a year.
Thank for the review, it always nice to hear my futur instrument :)
The look are modern too. Very nice instrument i'm in love.
Michalina is such a sweet person
She is awesome! :) The song is "La Sansonette"
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Do you have the full song or a video of you playing it? ^_^
@@ValCharis I can make it for you!
@@Sergio.GonzalezPrats Ahi, I challenge you! 😀
Hey Zan, how do you feel about Altarwinds gurdies? I'm specifically looking at their Moncur model.
Absolutely problematic and thin sounding, its definitely a big no for me.
"base price is $1650"
3 years later it's $2,700, inflation hit the gurdies hard
True, but also costs went up quite a lot
