Same! I'm curious to see if the improvements to the sensors make it more competitive against fitbit watches in terms of accuracy. It's probably always going to be trailing somewhat as more of a budget watch, but if the sleep sensor and heart rate monitor is at least decent, I do love the look and size of these way more than anything in fitbit series, minus maybe the inspire 3. And fitbit's paywall for so many of its features annoys me.
Rob, thanks for this review! Can you make Huawei Band 8 review too? They say they improved their Sleep tracking (it is now 3.0 version) as well as heart rate sensors (it is v.5.0 now)!
Thank you for this early review! It would be interesting to see how the Chinese and international versions compared to each other. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of Mi Bands has changed . It started with Mi Band 7 Pro. All prior models included Mi Band 7 has been produced by Huami (Amazfit). This is the reason there’s a new charger and no support for Zepp Life. I am afraid it has nothing to do with international vs local version. Real game changer for me.
Are u sure there is no support for Zepp Life? Because in this case the mi band 8 is dead to me, because Mi Fitness only shows the heart data as a 30 min. aggregation (execpt for trainings), so you'll only see min/max values for a time span, and sadly this is the way it exports data to apple health. Whereas with the mi band 7 and zepp life it exports on a minute recording basis, which you'll find in apple health as 2 min. aggregates which in turn deliver a much better reading than the dense spiky graph zepp life would provide.
Who are the Mi Bands made by now? Only Xiaomi? or another brand collaborates in the manufacture of the Mi Band 7 Pro and 8? The fact that now the data is saved in Mi fitness, suggests that Xiaomi manufactures them alone ...
Hi Rob, you should definitely include those 24hour HR measurements in the next reviews! Its pretty important info and in my own testing I also noticed pretty huge differences between devices, also some don't seem to really measure continuously...
Considering this is just a preliminary review, there is still room for improvement for the Mi Band 8 after its global release. My hypothesis on why the results are quite inaccurate is Xiaomi probably did not conduct that many tests with the sensors. With limited testing, this probably hindered their calibration for the sensors to properly and accurately detect a person's heart rate. Another theory of mine (although very unlikely) is that if this is the case for the inaccuracies of the device, it could be why they only released on China first, using their customers as their population of a large scale data gathering technique and when they have gathered sufficient data, only then will they release the global version with updated firmware that apply to both Chinese and International versions of the Mi Band 8. However this is only a theory and is based on my own speculation and experiences. I got the Mi Band 7 before a global version was released and it was just as inaccurate as this one but when it launched globally, it became better. I'm hoping for a follow-up review of the device once it officially releases globally.
the software on the 7 was not improved upon based on my experience. in fact the sleep tracking on the 7 became less reliable. but yes, this review was premature given the limited refinement that is expected to come by end of a year
Now test with the global version? 😬😬. Amazing video btw, as always. Also, splitting the graphs by budget watches and not so budget watches could be a great idea. the mi band 8 costs 39 pounds here, comparing it with 200+ or 400+ pounds watches is a tough fight for the mi band 8. But I do appreciate that we can see which place reached the band 8 on the general graph for all watches.
it's essy. Want something cheap , that measure good, go for any recent Huawei Band, Watch Fit, Fit 2 or even older versions of watches like GT2 they are all good or very good HR trackers and quite cheap .
Good call although it looks like he kinda only cares about the stats, rather than a normal/full review of the watch which may be why he doesn't compare by price.

I would just like to know if the newer band is good or not cause sometimes new things ends up being a downgrade. I would like to gift my dad the band 8 if its good. @@simdencard Yup. Huawei Bands tend to have decent heart tracking. Considering most budget options don't have many good trackers, at least having a reliable heart tracker is enough. Hopefully the newest model doesn't screw up.

It is a bummer that the sleep tracking is terrible this time. In the mi band 7 it was quite decent, you only found the rem sleep to be really inaccurate with the other stages being really good and in my own personal experience the rem sleep matched what I saw on my two previous fitbits so at least for me it seemed a quite good sleep tracker. I was looking forward to the mi band 8 because the heart rate was quite bad in the mi band 7 so I was really hopeful for the first half of the review. I really hope that they fix the sleep tracking although if you don't retest it we are unlikely to ever know as nobody else does this kind of testing. As for the fitbits I had two, the two died on me in a little over a year and it is easy to find thousands of people complaining about it. It seems that they have been made with manufactured obsolescence in mind. If the fitbits price point was similar to the mi band it wouldn't be so bad, but they are way too expensive for their terrible build quality. So I guess that I will just likely keep mi mi band 7 and hope that 9 is better.
@@skysky4198 I doubt it. I think that the heart rate is an input to the calorie burn algorithm. And heart rate in the mi band 7 sucks, mine has never shown more than 150 bpm even if reaching 200 bpm was common for me, very often when at 140 it would already oscillate between 70 and 140. And I don't even mean lifting weights or doing anything where the arms are in tension, that will make it read 0 or to keep whatever was already reading at the beginning . For me both sleep tracking is important as I have sleep issues and heart rate monitoring too as I have postural orthostatic tachycardia and the heart rate helps me monitor and control the issue. Fortunately it is just barely adequate for that as my resting standing heart rate almost never goes over 140 even at the worst bouts of it.

@@geno8079 I bought a Huawei GT 3 Pro instead. I was sceptic about the bigger size, but got used to it, and I'm very happy with the purchase now. Definetely better sensors and build quality compared to MiBands. Instead of buying a MiBand every year, I'll keep this one for 3 years.
Hello sir... The international (or global) version of the MI BAND 8 is now out and available. I hope youve seen this and are working on a test/review. Thank you.
Thank you for this, I've been looking all over for weeks now. I only found someone comparing to a Polar H10, no sleep stage comparisons. Now for the Huawei Band 8 XD
Just got another update that drastically changed the sleep algorithm results. I have no way of testing to see if accuracy increased or decreased. Hopefully the global version comes out soon and it's given another go.
Your channel is far better than those people. They make videos just to make money and have no deep knowledge, but you are doing an amazing job and your knowledge is superior to all those people. You know what are you saying and doing.
Have you considered comparing the sleep tracking with the stock application compared to something more specialized like Sleep as Android? It would be really interesting to see how much (if at all) does the specialized application improve/affect the accuracy of the sleep detection.
It would be useful if you provided the firmware version you used so we can have it as a reference point. I think it's all software cause the hardware on these watches and fitbit too has been refined and not much changes they know how to do that but messing with how they process/interpret the data makes all the difference. Currently what I see: Mi Fitness 3.19.3 In Watch Settings: Model:M2239B1 Version:1.3.176
Another great review, I had hope for this device. However, as the testing of this device proves , it becomes evident that its sensors are disappointingly inaccurate. Keep up the great reviews. Greetings from 🇮🇪
Please don't buy that model. As a previous Mi Band 5 user, I'm not satisfied with Mi Band 8. It has a lot of bugs. Just screen size and 60 Hz is evident.
Considering this video is 1 year old, I'd like to know if miband 8 received updates to improve its general use and precision (because that's what happened to previous mibands)
Excellent review! I see more bands in the comparison graphs, but no reviews for them found on your channel. Can you consider testing someting similar to the mi bands, like honor band 7? Thanks!
Hi! I would really want to know more about stress tracking in different smart watches. Stress is a very common issue, so I am sure many, many people would appreciate it. Is this something you have planned?
Interesting! I'd like to see an updated version of the Whoop 4.0. They've pushed loads of software updates over the past months, interested to see if they've improved.
Just got CN version and been running with it for 2 months. Not tracking sleep with it, but for running they seems alright. I try to run in zone 2 (130 bpm for me) from zone 3, which is everything 133 and more. And they seem to get the difference when I calm and focus and run at steady pace. Overall with all features and customizations of apps it's a very solid pick for it's money. Telegram notifications, music changing, timer, calendar notifications, all there. If u have any question regarding my experience - ask. Thx for the video man.
@@randomidk8279 definitely 8. Screen 60hz is next level. Just the screen make it worth buying. U gotta be smart though. If u want it for running there a couple of moments: u can't see pace and heart rate on the same screen. You had to review Huawei Band 8 right before this test since it is released globally. This test actually changed my decisions so I aint wait for Mi Band 8 anymore for 60Hz and I will go for Huawei Band 8. Plus, your Mi Band 8 may be faulty otherwise it seems like it has to be improved by Xiaomi somehow.
Can you do a quick update on the step counter please (preferably for the Smart Band 8 Pro)? Mine seems to be SHOCKINGLY inaccurate. There are lots of complaints online as well. Thanks!
What about the activity tracker part? I upgraded to a MB7 and it's steps are totally off from by previous MB5 when doing sports. Walking appears fairly accurate.
I was considering purchasing Mi Band to track my sleeping patterns to hopefully find the reason, why I don't wake up rested after 7-8 hours of sleep, but with the data shown in the video, I'd rather abstain - it's not clearly conclusive what happens during the night :(
Just a question, but why did you compare the design to that if the Fitbit luxe, while the Xiaomi has this design basically years before the luxe? At least since the MI band 3 while I argue that the form is still from the first one from 2016

Good morning, I discovered you relatively recently and I have seen the comparisons you have made between different brands. I'm reaching out to you because I would need your opinion regarding the Samsung Watch 5. I am an older person and my exercise is limited to walking, so the data that interests me from the smartwatch are heart rate, sleep duration and quality, possibly an electrocardiogram, blood pressure, and not much more. My question then would be if the Samsung 5 smartwatch could provide me with that data with a certain level of accuracy, and on a scale from 1 to 5, how would you rate the accuracy of that data?
Has anyone managed to activate boxing in Mi Fitness? I can start the boxing activity on the bracelet but there is no interactive boxing on Mi Fitness....
Have you ever tested different ecg chestband devices (especially how would a Magene H64 stack up against the Polar H10)? I'm interested in my heart rate at night (well in the morning actually) and was looking for a device to record it.. when I remembered I had a Magene H64 lying somewhere. I suppose it's decent.. all I need now is software to record it since the device itself doesn't. (or pay max 50,- on a wrist device with "continuous" heart rate measurement (at least in 5 minute intervals))

Is this something you noticed in previous versions of the Band (v6 or v7)?

@@geno8079 I bought a Huawei GT 3 Pro instead. I was sceptic about the bigger size, but got used to it, and I'm very happy with the purchase now. Definetely better sensors and build quality compared to MiBands. Instead of buying a MiBand every year, I'll keep this one for 3 years.
I always love you work with these articles :)!
FETTES *DANKE*
Deine Arbeit hat mir eine schwerwiegende Ausgabe erspart 🙏
Danke ! 😊
I got the mi band 8 and just today got an update for "enhanced algorithm accuracy".
Just got another update that drastically changed the sleep algorithm results. I have no way of testing to see if accuracy increased or decreased. Hopefully the global version comes out soon and it's given another go.
Awesome review! This is the format of a review I was looking for. Thank you.
Very cool data collection and insightful analyses! Looking forward to test results of Mi Band 8 pro with upgraded sensors
Now Mi brand 8 pro launched, I heard a lot of progress, could you review it?
Hi Rob, please also review Huawei Band 8 as well, as this 2 brands are competing with similar price point, features and release date. Thanks
What about huawei band 8?
You can't believe how badly i was waiting for this video. i commented on several videos of yours to make reivew on band 8.
Thanks for saving my money, it's worst watch mi has ever built. I will keep my Redmi watch lite 2
Happy to help 😊
It would be useful if you provided the firmware version you used so we can have it as a reference point.
I think it's all software cause the hardware on these watches and fitbit too has been refined and not much changes they know how to do that but messing with how they process/interpret the data makes all the difference.
Currently what I see:
Mi Fitness 3.19.3
In Watch Settings:
Model:M2239B1
Version:1.3.176
Hey! Good Review!! Please test the Huawie Band 8 because it have the truesense 5 maybe it’s the best smartwatch under 50$
Another great review, I had hope for this device.
Can you do this tests with the new Huawei Band 8, please? Comparing to the Mi Band 8.
Considering this video is 1 year old, I'd like to know if miband 8 received updates to improve its general use and precision (because that's what happened to previous mibands)
thank you as always for the review, hope your channel growing more, your work is very much appreciated. Thank You.
Please do a mi band 8 vs Huawei band 8 comparison after mi band gets a global launch. I'm really confused which one to get.
Hi, should we expect soon a review on the Huawei Watch 4 Pro? I'm very curious about your in depth analysis. 👨🔬
Pls do a review on the new Huawei band 8 ..need to buy a fitness watch soon xd
Excellent review!
I see more bands in the comparison graphs, but no reviews for them found on your channel.
Can you consider testing someting similar to the mi bands, like honor band 7?
Thanks!
What are your thoughts on the new G-shock smart watches partnered with Polar?
why huawei band 8 is considered to be better if huawei band 7 is as bad as this mi band 8??
Could you test the "Sleep as Android" app or some other apps in comparison to your EKG device?
With rooted phone you can actually access mi fitness application database. There you can find very detailed data of activities.
Mi band 8 global version has been launched, please give a review of global version.
Hi Rob, would you be able to test out the miband 8 pro? thanks in advance!
How about a test of the Xiaomi Band 9 sometime soon?
Just got CN version and been running with it for 2 months.
Not tracking sleep with it, but for running they seems alright.
I try to run in zone 2 (130 bpm for me) from zone 3, which is everything 133 and more. And they seem to get the difference when I calm and focus and run at steady pace.
Overall with all features and customizations of apps it's a very solid pick for it's money.
Telegram notifications, music changing, timer, calendar notifications, all there.
If u have any question regarding my experience - ask.
Thx for the video man.
Do you think that it's more worth buying the 8 than the 7? Considering that it will be my first band.
i am buying a new watch should i buy mi band 7 or mi band 8
@@randomidk8279 definitely 8. Screen 60hz is next level. Just the screen make it worth buying.
U gotta be smart though. If u want it for running there a couple of moments: u can't see pace and heart rate on the same screen. And pace is measured abruptly, pace value jumps during running, but overall it provides realistic info.
@@randomidk8279 answered. Read below
@@xx-qs1ij Thank you for the answer. But do you still think that it's worth after seeing the results of the tests in the video ?
Your reviews are very helpful thanks !!!!
Glad you like them!😊
How to encrypt Mi graphics of pulse? Some times it shows vertical lines and sometimes these are a few dots instead of line.
Do you have these charts somewhere online, where you regularly update new devices? That would be super awesome.
Can you taste the huawei band 8😊
Huawei band 8 review next Rob? 😎
What makes "polar" the benchmark. Why can't you use medical grade ECG device
He probably tested the polar before and found it to be accurate so thats why he can use it as the benchmark
Wirst du die globale Version nich testen?
I've watched your reviews for a long time now before buying, loved them👍🏻Can you please review the Xiaomi Band 8 Active?
You had to review Huawei Band 8 right before this test since it is released globally. This test actually changed my decisions so I aint wait for Mi Band 8 anymore for 60Hz and I will go for Huawei Band 8. Plus, your Mi Band 8 may be faulty otherwise it seems like it has to be improved by Xiaomi somehow.
Hi! I used two mi band 8’s, and both gave similar results
Hello, will you please review a honor band 8? Thanks.
Hi. Are you going to test Huawei Watch 4 series?
I was considering purchasing Mi Band to track my sleeping patterns to hopefully find the reason, why I don't wake up rested after 7-8 hours of sleep, but with the data shown in the video, I'd rather abstain - it's not clearly conclusive what happens during the night :(
will you review huawei band 8?
Just a question, but why did you compare the design to that if the Fitbit luxe, while the Xiaomi has this design basically years before the luxe? At least since the MI band 3 while I argue that the form is still from the first one from 2016
Why are you not tested 7 Pro or 8 Pro? I'm using Chinese version and I'm very satisfied, but interested in tests of sensors.
Hi, will you be reviewing the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active soon? It would be good to see a side by side comparison between it and the Huawei Band 8
Could you test Amazfit Band 7? I think it's a better choice for the almost same price.
please do a huawei band 8 review !!!
Today I bought band 8. Batrey life is crazy. I wear 5 ours but only 2% falls from 67 to 65%. I tired of charging smart watch. I love band 8 forget about charging and battrey. Performance is also best. ❤❤❤
not that accurate tho
Hi Rob! So i'm looking into bands that would track my running pace, and also have a look of Fitbit Charge 5. So i wonder about Mi Band 8 and its accuracy on the running data.
Hello Sir! I love your videos! Thank you for your amazing work. Can you please make a review of Huawei Band 8? I'm actually waiting for your reviews before I purchase anything. When it comes to real tech review, I only trust you. 😁
Rob, thanks for yet another really useful review.
will you also have a test for mi band 8 PRO?
Excellent! Have you already reviewed the Amazfit band?
I can start the boxing activity on the bracelet but there is no interactive boxing on Mi Fitness....
interesting to see the review on Huawei Ultimate watch, Huawei Watch 4
Have you ever tested different ecg chestband devices (especially how would a Magene H64 stack up against the Polar H10)?
I'm interested in my heart rate at night (well in the morning actually) and was looking for a device to record it.. when I remembered I had a Magene H64 lying somewhere. I suppose it's decent.. all I need now is software to record it since the device itself doesn't. (or pay max 50,- on a wrist device with "continuous" heart rate measurement (at least in 5 minute intervals))
Amazfit Band 7 seems popular in the cheaper segment. Can you perhaps test it out too?
Hi! Can you test the Ticwatch Pro 5? It seems to be one of the best Android smartwatches, but I wonder how accurate it is. Thanks!
In the chart at 20:00, near the upper right corner, I saw 2 AppleWatch8 labels close to each other.
@@felipopetsThis will likely have terrible heart rate tracking aswell unfortunately. Amazfit seems to have some of the worst heart rate tracking according to the quantified scientist and my own experience. 😮
you are keep saying "access to international version". What will be different in that model compared with the CN one? Are you expecting the international version to give you access to "raw" data, with increased resolution? or that model will be able to sample more often? Is this something you noticed in previous versions of the Band (v6 or v7)?
Waiting for the mi band 8 global version test ❤
How long before we can expect a Huawei Watch 4 pro review?
Yes, It have very bad sleep training.
Can you please test new running mode (with shoes clips) ?
Hello, one thing keeps brothering me out. Since this is my first Mi band, does it need a screen protector? I have taken it out of bix since it was delivered to me😢
Thank you for this scientific review Rob! If so can you do a redmi watch 4 review?
