Hi Rob, when comparing successor watches, it might be a good idea to show the results compared to the highlighted previous models. This device is a very affordable device and quite impressive for the price and though it'll never compare to an expensive watch many will want to know if they should upgrade their previous model to the new. I think another useful item to include in all of your reviews would be to mention the heart rate sample rate. I used a Mi Band years ago and remember it taking a low number of heart rate measurements per minute and this will dramatically affect its ability to keep up with quick heart rate changes. Love your videos!
I love your analysis videos, the way you have all datasets from different watches and then comparing them with the new one is awesome, it really gives me hope to continue my journey of learning Data Analysis and Data Science
Heya Rob! I wonder if you have any information about what the 'stress score' that the Mi Band 8 gives is based on. Is it (only) heart rate variability, and do you know of some way to get HRV-data directly from the band? Update: I asked Xiaomi and they said "The watch evaluates the current stress intensity by comparing the current heart rate variability data with the individual's heart rate variability when sleeping and relaxing. It also takes into account the individual's limb activity tracking to assist in the judgment. When heart rate variability is significantly weakened during low-intensity physical activity, it indicates a higher intensity of mental stress. The watch continuously monitors the pressure value changes throughout the day and displays the current pressure value." No idea how they get to the 'mental' part there, but yeah: it's based on HRV, and there's no way to 'reverse engineer' HRV based on the stress score. I'm hoping for an update that'll allow this.
Correct but it went from very bad to a little less very bad. So in absolute results, it's still crap. The only difference is time, firmware updates have improved the Mi band 8 a little. I think if the Chinese versions were te-tested they would show similar results.

It would be interesting to do some experiments on how much after market band strap replacements change the accuracy. All the high performing watches use are wider displays and straps. That seems moreso tightness of band rather than width, though the width could indicate more stability so maybe you're onto something.. I doubt it'd be a significant difference though (width of band)

I think it may be worth including the firmware version when you test devices. I have this and an Apple Watch and from my testing (using the latest firmware) it's pretty much the same as the Apple Watch. However, with the original firmware it was garbage.
I've always felt that the biggest obstacle to overcome is the body hair. Not sure how this can taken into account as it is very subjective. I've never heard a person with body hair bring satisfied with the heart rate monitor of bands
I know this is cheaper, but the accuracy and features of the Charge 6 are one level above... More accurate and it does ECG and Afib... and I think it's better to spend $150 for a very good product than $80 for an average one.

Unbiased review, thank you
How are you able to get the data from the very first plot? I’m a stats major and it would be really cool if I could do analysis of my own from my own device(s). Thanks!
I think it may be worth including the firmware version when you test devices. I have this and an Apple Watch and from my testing (using the latest firmware) it's pretty much the same as the Apple Watch. However, with the original firmware it was garbage.
So many „reviews“ are only repeating the marketing of Xiaomi. Thank you so much for testing the sensors for real.
How to connect to google fit?
Thank you for doing this so quickly.
I've always felt that the biggest obstacle to overcome is the body hair. Not sure how this can taken into account as it is very subjective.
I've never heard a person with body hair bring satisfied with the heart rate monitor of bands
Hi Rob could you do a review of the Amazfit Band 7 or Amazfit BIP 5? Thanks
I know this is cheaper, but the accuracy and features of the Charge 6 are one level above... More accurate and it does ECG and Afib... and I think it's better to spend $150 for a very good product than $80 for an average one.
I'm in a hospital right now and each time the doctors check my heart rate and oxygen levels they are the same as my mi band 8 .

Thanks for the video! Huawei band 8 in this price range is the way to go.

Hi, I just want to say I'd love to see a review by you of the Ultrahuman Ring Air. Personally, I'm mostly interested in learning about the details and accuracy of the sleep-tracking function.
You should add a price to the performance graph for all the watches.
