    00:00 🏃 Mi Band 8 International Edition's price ranges between $40 and $60, offering impressive features for the cost.
    00:59 🩺 The Mi Band 8 generally shows good agreement with an ECG chest strap for heart rate tracking during indoor cycling, though slight delays in detecting heart rate fluctuations were noted.
    03:47 🚴‍♂ The Mi Band 8's performance in heart rate tracking during outdoor cycling is significantly less accurate due to increased wrist tension and movement, resulting in lower correlation.
    07:45 🏋‍♂ During weightlifting, the Mi Band 8 struggled to track heart rate accurately due to increased wrist tension, resulting in low correlation and inaccurate readings.
    10:47 😴 Sleep stage tracking by the Mi Band 8 had low agreement with an EEG headband, particularly in differentiating deep sleep, light sleep, and REM sleep, making it unreliable for sleep stage tracking.
    17:23 🌙 Overall, while suitable for basic heart rate tracking and tracking time spent in bed, the Mi Band 8's sleep stage tracking isn't reliable, receiving a low rating due to discrepancies with reference devices.

    Honestly looking at his graph low heart rate for this activity I would say that there are "issues" in his testing.

    @MrMorton Год назад +45

    Hi Rob, when comparing successor watches, it might be a good idea to show the results compared to the highlighted previous models.
    This device is a very affordable device and quite impressive for the price and though it'll never compare to an expensive watch many will want to know if they should upgrade their previous model to the new.
    I think another useful item to include in all of your reviews would be to mention the heart rate sample rate. I used a Mi Band years ago and remember it taking a low number of heart rate measurements per minute and this will dramatically affect its ability to keep up with quick heart rate changes.
    Love your videos!

  • @FrankvanCaspel
    @FrankvanCaspel 10 месяцев назад +7

    Heya Rob! I wonder if you have any information about what the 'stress score' that the Mi Band 8 gives is based on. Is it (only) heart rate variability, and do you know of some way to get HRV-data directly from the band?
    Update: I asked Xiaomi and they said "The watch evaluates the current stress intensity by comparing the current heart rate variability data with the individual's heart rate variability when sleeping and relaxing. It also takes into account the individual's limb activity tracking to assist in the judgment. When heart rate variability is significantly weakened during low-intensity physical activity, it indicates a higher intensity of mental stress. The watch continuously monitors the pressure value changes throughout the day and displays the current pressure value."
    No idea how they get to the 'mental' part there, but yeah: it's based on HRV, and there's no way to 'reverse engineer' HRV based on the stress score. I'm hoping for an update that'll allow this.

    The thing with these Chinese branded devices is that in the beginning, at launch, the firmware is always pretty bad. The marketing has a focus on hardware specifications and low price. So development and testing on the algorithm is always lagging behind the launch-schedule. They do improve over time through firmware updates though. Especially with Amazfit, their devices have good hardware but software laks in the beginning. I think that now, after a long time, the results are better than what they were. Not Apple-results, not ever of course, but better than they were at the beginning.
    I hope they can ever be re-tested. The GTR/GTS 4-series is beautiful and they have such great hardware, hopefully these can be re-tested to see if they improved. Because I think they did.

    Since heartrate is pretty good, is sleep tracking a software issue or hardware? What if we used a different tracker like Sleep as android?

    I bought a Mi Band 8 for my wife a couple of weeks back for step tracking. It sucks. Compared to my Garmin Instinct 2 Solar, it constantly undercounts steps. I'm gonna buy her a Venu 3.

    How are you able to get the data from the very first plot? I’m a stats major and it would be really cool if I could do analysis of my own from my own device(s). Thanks!

    I think it may be worth including the firmware version when you test devices. I have this and an Apple Watch and from my testing (using the latest firmware) it's pretty much the same as the Apple Watch. However, with the original firmware it was garbage.

    I've always felt that the biggest obstacle to overcome is the body hair. Not sure how this can taken into account as it is very subjective.
    I've never heard a person with body hair bring satisfied with the heart rate monitor of bands

    I know this is cheaper, but the accuracy and features of the Charge 6 are one level above... More accurate and it does ECG and Afib... and I think it's better to spend $150 for a very good product than $80 for an average one.

    *Amei demais esse seus testes, queriam muito um canal como o seu na versão brasileira, vou comprar a Mi Band 8 pq não tenho muita grana, mas é uma pena não ter sido aprovado nos testes, mas vai servir pra mim mesmo assim, se puder, faça os testes com o Amazfit Active por favor! Ficarei agradecido!*
