I'd have to disagree with the other reply to some extent. Freud is a theory that describes people regardless of when they existed. It's a psychological theory. Psychology is not restricted to time. Also (against contrary belief) context isn't just historical stuff, it also includes things about human nature and so forth. Be careful which texts you use Freud for though - it works best for Jekyll and Hyde and potentially Macbeth.

It's a gamble, but I would certainly agree that it's a waste of time in many situations. Personally, I use pre-prepared analysis of Freud in different GCSE texts - and it works a treat!
