My Granny's Goulash was always a favorite growing up. It's easy-peasy comfort food and this is my take on it! Perfect way to use a pound of hamburger and make a one-skillet meal. If you don't have an oven, you could put a lid over the top of the dish on the stove and heat the cheese down that way. Hope you'll try it and enjoy. See below for recipe or visit here for a printable recipe card 👉 www.thisfarmwi...
INGREDIENTS:
1 Pound Ground Round (Hamburger)
1 Jar Spaghetti or Pasta Sauce (or crushed tomatoes would work)
½ small onion, diced
2-3 small sweet peppers (or ½ bell pepper), diced
1-2 cups macaroni noodles (prepared according to package directions)
1 cup (or more!) Mozzarella Cheese (or your choice of cheese for topping)
DIRECTIONS:
Brown the hamburger over medium to medium-high heat in skillet with onions and peppers. Drain.
Add jar of sauce and healthy dose of Musketpowder (or your choice of seasoning). Mix. Saute on low while noodles cook.
Prepare macaroni noodles according to package directions.
Drain noodles and add to beef mixture.
Top with cheese and broil 5 minutes (or less) until cheese is melted. Eat!

In today's over wrought and uber make up cooks, Mrs Meredith is a breath of fresh air, a great cook and a completely total charmer. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed dinner w/o even tasting it.
Can’t get enough of your videos especially your cooking videos . I like the way you are just care free !
Thank you!
Pippi Longstocking!! Who knew she was such a good cook?!! Love the sound of children laughing! 😊
Just to let you know, hamburger and elbow macaroni goulash in the 40’s was a staple food for many of us weekly. Our kids loved grandma goulash! My wife and I still love and we are in our 80’s. When I was young we did no have store bought tomatoes, we had mom’s homemade
caned tomatoes. We thought we lived in ‘tall corn’ then. Yes the city folks called us hay seeds or clod busters. I see you laughing Lawrence !! ❤️ Ya’ ll God Bless and Stay on the farm in this time.
Canned tomatoes are the best! Thank you 💛
You cook the way we feel Merdie!! Being from the South we understand your methods, just get it done. Love it and love you!! Keep it goin girl! YOU ARE THE BOMB!!
Thank you!!
We used to have that a lot when I was a kid. I love it. You’ve went and made me hungry now. It looks delicious. 👍👍👍❤️
Glad your using ragu I worked at a ragu plant for 20 yrs in owensboro ky
When you freeze milk you should pour some off first to allow for expansion. The jug could actually split open.
Mom made this years ago fed 7 persons on pound of of chuck. bag of egg noodles spiced it up with stewed tomatoes and all the rest you added. Good food on cold night. Happy Easter. 🐰🐰🐣🐥
Instead of using Ragu i use Rotel. Goulash gets better the next day after it sits overnight. After it marinated. If there is ever any leftovers. LOL!!! I will try your way the next time I fix it with Ragu. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
My granny said if you weren't making a mess cooking it wouldn't come out yummy so your not alone in a messy cook category. Looks really yummy in the tummy going to make it for Miss Annabelle and her momma for supper some night. We freeze milk sometimes just to have it on hand . Hope everyone is safe and healthy and keep up the great videos
Good, hope y'all like it! Stay well yourselves!
Thank you for teaching me how to cook some delicious grub 😋👍🇺🇲
Sahm here to two young kids in Arkansas.....I just love your videos! Definitely going to try this recipe! :)
Thank you! Hope you like it!
"A messy stove is the sign of a genius."
Oh yum! So similar to my own grandmother's Goulash. A Hungarian staple during WW2 passed down four generations now. I cook it often :)
Dang, my tummy was sure growling after watching the video it made me soooo hungry ..yummm
Let the flavors marry.
Goulash at my house, ground beef, onions, a quart of home canned tomatoes, a can of corn, gotta have okra in it, then the elbow macaroni goes in. Sometimes I use fresh okra, sometimes canned okra, and sometimes dehydrated okra.
My wife cooked this for me and it was delicious! We just got our musket powder Black label in the mail she ordered.. wish we had a Piggly wiggly here in Indiana...
We love old fashion goulash. I love that you invite us into your private home and you are not phony or fake. You would see dust bunnies hanging from my ceiling and plenty of dirt on the floor. It's called life.
Well that sounds like home to me, too. ;) Thanks for being here!
Love Love Love the cooking Videos!!! You always make me hungry!!
Thank you!
Meredith, Goulash....love it! It's a meal we have several times a month. Our version is a tad different. I use ground beef, spaghetti sauce, onion, pasta, green chiles (Hatch), 1/2 cup corn, and 10 green olives for me, the guys pick them out because they hate olives. Cook it all up and serve it up... I'm going to try your version next time.
Like how you put your mom ears to work, and quickly decide is this a mom problem to deal with or are the kids going to be just fine and work out their own disagreements.
Thanks! You know, you are pretty good at gettin my appetite roarin.
that looks Yummy. My Mom used to make that . I am going to make it thanks to you!
That sure looked great in the skillet right out of the oven! I was hoping for the garlic bread!! Take care!
I make Goulash a lot!! Love ALL your videos!!
Looks delicious. Thanks
Love goulash...been a while ,, guess now it will be tomorrow night....Love how you keep things real,, sights and sounds and words of wisdom (because that's how Granny did it !)....feels like we're hangin' out in the kitchen with you......Thanks for sharing your recipe and a piece of your life............Stay Safe and God Bless.....

Thank you. This is the very best goulash I have ever made and the very best I have ever eaten! I’m eating the leftovers for my lunch today! Be safe down there with these Monday storms coming thru.
Yay, that makes me happy! We are good, just lots of wind. Stay safe too!
STOP Worrying how you talk, you talk just fine. If people don't like "TOUGH"
Agreed
Thanks. I apologize too much, I know. I think it’s the honourary Canadian in me 🤷🏼♀️
Agreed ... I love it.
@@ThisFarmWifeCooks Eh?

That looks awesome!! Always a crowd pleaser..and if there are leftovers, it freezes too!!
Hi Meredith. thank you I never know what to cook anymore that's why I'm here . and I love the way you talk that southern accent set me on fire.. i love it
Goulash is so good. Like what I see except for the Musket powder. I love the natural taste of ground round and don't use many condiments. Sure miss your "other channel on farming."
Dinner is ready! :)
Please keep talking how you talk. I am from Ireland and love your accent.
You know they say a messy cook in a great cook.
Instead of Pouring on Seasoning, just say your Dusting it with Seasoning. Love watching you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looked GOOD!! Thanks Blessings
YOU are a hoot! LOVE the videos!
Thank you!!!
Hi Meredith. Well this was interesting. I'm proud to already know that noodles get bigger in water but I wouldn't have ever thought about freezing milk. That just never would occur to me to do that. I also never have thought about how desserts is stressed backwards. I bet I'd never think of that actually. So thank you for the latest TFW Cooks program. Also I admire how you keep on truckin' even with those background distractions. As for me, I can get thrown off entirely from cooking something even if it's a simple distraction like my little asking me a simple thing. But you just keep on truckin' well done.
Wonderful dinner
Thank you, I'm going to try this.
Tomorrow making goulash....
My mom and sister always cooks way to much, like you to feed a army. Never thought you can freeze milk. Grandma always canned the tasting food when used the canned food. I agree with you about the garlic bread.
Good evening Merdie and Family
As always looking so delicious 😋 I will have to make it like that because I’ve always pretty much made it the same except I always drained the noodles and put them back in the pot and then put a half a stick of butter in the noodles then dumped the goolosh in the pot of noodles and mixed it up and then added the cheese after I put it on a plate or bowl 😋
Y’all take care and God Bless 🤠❤️😘😘😘 Love Y’all......
Awesome video, goulash is always a favorite dish no matter what time of the year it is, I use garlic salt with real butter to make my garlic bread, love watching you cooking videos you're doing a great job, hope you and your family is have a great Easter weekend 🐰🐇👍
We used to make something like this when my kids were little but we never called it goulash. I think we just called it hamburger macaroni or homemade hamburger helper! LOL. We had a joke that when something didn't really have a name we called it "schminey pie". I can't remember how that one got started. I can relate to the frozen milk too. When I was growing up I was a military brat and we had 6 in the family. So mom would make a monthly trip to the commissary, which was the on-base grocery store, and stock up on stuff. It was further away than our local store. So anyway a family of 6 can go through a ton of milk and bread! We would get an assembly line going to unload the groceries and put all that extra milk and bread in the freezer. Usually had about a half a cow's worth of beef in there too! It was a coffin size freezer and we stuffed it full! Thanks for some good memories watching you cook! Oh, and I make a huge mess and always wipe stuff on my pants when I cook!
Haha, love all of this! I can't imagine feeding that many mouths every day. Your mom is my hero! Thanks for being here
Once again, thank you for letting us into your home for a respite from this crazy world! Awesome & simple dish, thanks😊
Original Hamburger Helper.
Your gonna let them flavors get to know each other!
Nothing like dark browned cheese from the oven on dishes!
THAT LOOKS VERY TASTY MEREDITH, KEEP SAFE, XXX.
Looks Yummy 😋 treat for tummy😂
Garlic salt is what I use..yummmmmyyy..have a great afternoon🙏🙏🙏🙏❣❣❣
True thing... I was eating my version of goulash while watching you make yours. I cook the hamburg like you did and add semi-boiled potatoes, carrots, peppers, and onions with some tomato sauce and cook it all some more with seasoning. Thank you for making all your videos.
That sounds good! And how crazy you were eating it 😅
@@ThisFarmWifeCooks I truly was eating it at that moment.
After you incorporate all of your ingredients, you let the flavors"marry" and the longer this marriage lass, the better the flavors. It will definetly taste even better tomorrow as leftovers!
I'm going to have to try to make the ranch dressing and the goulash
My husband loves Goulash! One of his favorites!
Hi Meredith. When I was growing up, my dad made a great pot of goulash. I remember that he sauteed the mushrooms, peppers, and onions, and I was drooling as I was smelling it. As to cheese, you can't have too much! I have "fallen in love" with your videos! Love and blessings from your Northern friend. ~ Rick
Aw thanks!🥰
@@ThisFarmWifeCooks You are very welcome Meredith!
Looks so good honey. I'm just like you when I'm cooking, have to taste everything. You don't want the chance of other people getting sick on your cooken. God Bless you and continue to stay healthy.
Lol yes!
Goulash!! Love it growing up!! Mom would some time add corn or hominy too. Good stuff.
I like it Falling in Love used that for years Glad it works for you
Love your style Meredith!❤❤❤❤
I’ve prepared and eaten goulash for over 40 years... I’ve never added cheese to it. Will try it but in moderation the first time. I like lots of elbow macaroni, way more than you used. And I’ve never put it in the oven, probably because I’ve never used cheese like that.
Ahhh Yum!
RUclips needs to make a way to give you 2 thumbs up. Because I would give you 2 if I could.
Aw thanks Bert!
solid
I do the same thing with cheese when i cook the best way.
Meredith, goulash is comfort food made me hungry watching you put it together one question is musket powder for sale in stores in southeast wisconsin? Keep up the recipies comming.🍅🌶🌶🍅
You can always order it from their website. I live in Washington state. They definitely do not sell up here.
Time tells all,👍🏼🙌🏼😎
That looks Amazing MB!!! :-)
Don = To put on
Doff= To take off
Supper looks good you-al
That looks absolutely delicious. Keep up the good work. I make something like that except i dont put the cheese top. But that idea looks good. Have to try it.
I normally alternate between powder and salt or use both at the same time. It's all about how garlicy I want it because using too much garlic salt makes it way too salty whereas that doesn't happen with the powder.
I pronounce it exactly like the guy's name Don .. I'm going to Don that oven mitt .. of course, being from Wisconsin, I might actually have an accent without even knowing it. Be safe, be well .. thanks for sharing this great recipe. Cheers
Love your new channel almost as much as TFW Thanks!
Yay! Thank you!
Looks yummy, never put cheese on like that ( will now), just sprinkled with parmesan cheese
Hello like the pig tails and the way you cook.
Salt, pepper and Butter come girl girl. Every thinks better with Butter.
👍👌🇨🇦❤, yum
Omg, yum
See if your grocery store has shop online option, a lot of places have that now and bring it to your car when you get there. Should wait til you need a few things though.
I was wondering if anyone in the uk knows if there is anything like musket powder here.would love to try it but don’t think they deliver overseas
I would add mushrooms to that. Mac and cheese, Start elbows I use the hole box. Pound of Velveeta cheese cut up and milk melt down cheese add milk 1/4 or so I do not measure. Stir but do not walk away while doing this or it will stick to bottom of pan. Add flower to thicken to what you like and take off heat. When noodles are done and strained put in large enough pot and stir in cheese and serve.
Sounds good!
I didn’t want to do it, I tried to resist it.....I left it a week and a bit.....I was busy, planting barley and sorting lambs, but in the end....
Aaaaaagh, I pressed that subscribe button....... I know I shouldn’t have, but it’s done now.
Well thanks! I think 😅
This Farm Wife Cooks Look we’ll give it a few weeks and see how it goes! Smiley emoji with the little eye wink thing.
If you put oil in the water you boil the pasta in then the pasta won’t absolve the sauce.......
Can you list your salad dressing recipe please. Thank You
I’ll do that soon!
Blast it w musket power..haha...American chop suie...well that’s what my gram called it...well it good any way you say it...cheers
we second this comment!!!! BLAST AWAY
I'd give a million to have me a country gal like that 💯
A dirty stove is a used stove. I would love to see a tour of your farmhouse, what I see, I love.
I’ll do that soon! Thanks!
Garlic powder not galic salt is what my Mom always put on the toast. There was 13 of us so that would be a whole loaf of bread.
My mom also, but if we ran out of bread she would use hamburger buns... just as good.
We eat out 1-2 times a year. Make much better at home. Always make homemade bread, sally lunn bread is the best. Also I make homemade wine. 1000% better than going out. Plus the dogs are here. 🐶👍
Homemade wine is 😍
This Farm Wife Cooks Yes, just finished bottling 12 varieties, 78 case's last month, 2018 vintage. 🍷😜
Soft pasta as it boils is the only time you can salt it and taste it according to the food prep people.🧂🧂🧂🐄🐄🐄, Beef is best, as Lawrence.
Your thinking like me Maradath Great minds thank Alike
What time is dinner? 😃👍🦋
