Definitely better than the 250 greatest guitarists lists that Rolling Stone put out recently
I feel like the only guitarist this list is missing is Tom Verlaine, otherwise perfect
The Rolling Stone’s list was literal trash
@@chasebriscoefan14it felt like an april fools prank fr
@@arkhamguard6479Trey Anastasio is literally better than 50% of this list.
The Rolling Stones is very trash and rubbish
Kurt Cobain was a great artist... but to put him in top 100 guitar players, I dont think so...
Higher than Angus Young, and Malcolm even missing. But yea, Cobain needs to be on the list....
@@frankmaeder4358nah, it’s a list for the greatest guitarists. He made good songs but he was not a great guitarist.
Not even top 500
I agree and ahead of Dave Mustaine lol
Gary Moore criminally underrated, must be in top 30 at least
Also Robert Fripp from King Crimson
Most defently Gary Moore is the greatest
Agree
You mean P1 at least
John Petrucci is much better than him and isn’t even on the list
When you see Kurt Cobain ranked higher than Al Dimeola, you know it's a joke list. 😂
Hey it is better than the rolling stone list
No Gatton or Buchanan as well. It's only a list of who he's heard of .
Joanna Connor would cut heads of most this list but she's just another underrated gem.
@@broadwayking👉ANY LIST is better than Rolling Stones lists.👈🎯
Woke puke matters not.
Not the cutest chick either. 😅😂@Fnstine
Vous marquez un point.
Ingwie Malmsteen #73
Joe Satriani #70
Steve Vai #42
All you f.cking kidding me???
Roy Clark should be on this list!
I was about to say that as well - along with Glen Campbell
Agreed, Roy Clark should be on every list🎸
Anybody ever heard of Glenn Tipton. Judas priest smashing guitar player
Kurt cobain over Dave mustaine?
Richie Blackmore is my favourite guitarist 😊
Me too
Ritchie should be 5 Clapton should be 10 . Cheers
Terry Kath should be way higher. Not sure if Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Kurt Cobain should be in the top 100.
They were
I would keep Neil Young, but you are right about the other two
Neil Young is killer with his lack of technique. Amazon riffs and those solos are worthy enough
Agreed.
agree those 3 don't belong
While David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist, I’m happy you included John Mayer. I feel like he doesn’t get the recognition from fans because he made radio pop songs but he really is an amazing guitarist.
Gilmour wrote fricking classic songs. John Mayer not in the same league at all as a songwriter.
@@corailgris Well it was mostly Roger Waters who wrote the songs but I agree David is the superior songwriter and guitarist. Mayer is still an incredible guitarist though.
So right he should be too 10 ridiculous!! JM IS FANTASTIC. Check him out on a Cross Roads guitar festival….where Clapton picks his favourite guitarists!!
@@brentgraham1735 He’s definitely brilliant! I mean Clapton, B.B King and others have called him a masterful guitarist and he’s toured with Grateful Dead. His music might not be for everyone but his guitar skills are undeniable.
THIS IS A JOKE????? 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Wtf ? Nuno Bettencourt even not in top 100 ?
There's a lot of really great jazz guitarists who deserve to be here (alongside Django and Benson), Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny just to name a few
How do they not have John McLaughlin? Even as someone who's pretty unfamiliar with jazz, his work on those Miles Davis and Mahavishnu Orchestra records is the stuff of legend.
@@honeycomblord9384 I'm pretty much in the same position as you, I'm not too much of a jazz guy but I know of John McLaughlin and love his music
John petrucci is way better than all of them and he’s not on the list
John Scofiled and Al Di Meola too.
Definitely agree with you brother, if I am a younger and much little experience playing guitar, I will definitely agree in this list, but I heard and learn how great those Jazz Guitarist more old timers (Django, Charlie Christian heck even Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Tbone Walker). This should be Greatest Rock/Electric Guitarist
Some great ones on this list. Yet no Holdsworth, Hackett, McLaughlin, Akkerman, Metheny, Coryell, Morse, Martino, Trower, Marino, Johnson, Gambale, Carlton, Bloomfield, Buchanan, Abercrombie, Nugent, Bolin, Hillage, Kossoff, Scofield, Stern, Breau, De Lucía, Gilbert, Trucks, Felder, Govan, Petrucci, Herring, Halsall, Szabo, Gatton, Burrell, Lane, Montgomery, Pass, Caldwell, Henderson, Ford, Rypdal, Turner and Powell, Simmonds, Cipollina, Barre, Tolonen, Rypdal, Latimer, Frisell, Belew, Oldfield, Schon. Need to make a second part, definitely.
George Lynch, Grant Green, Al DiMeola and Pat Metheny sorry must mention Nancy Wilson of Heart.
Don't forget Buckethead.
Yeah well you like me obviously heard lot players guy compiled list never heard of
Wow... somebody mentioned Larry Coryell..👍
De Lucia definitely belongs - as well as Roy Clark & Glenn Campbell
Very Surprised that Springsteen was on the list, Same with Kurt.
Agree. I'm a strong believer that a top guitarists list should be for people who fully dedicated to the guitar in some extent or other. Like Link Wray or Peter Frampton for example
Trey Anastasio is a lot better than both and got snubbed. This person doesn’t know his guitarists well enough.
I'm just as surprised
Duane Eddy shouldn't be on the same planet.
I would usually agree as i always felt that he wasn’t even the best guitarist in his band, but after seeing him live just last month my whole perception on him as a guitar player has changed, he was just incredible. However I still wouldn’t put him above Nils Lofgren who played one of the most complex solos I’ve ever heard.
It's a crime to forget steve lukather
As always, musicianship Is overshadowed by fireworks; Luke Is a very acomplished Session musician with a plenty of credibility along all his work
Lindsey Buckingham in another rock approach could easily be included too
Never seen such a versatile player
@@fenderstratocastertelecast8479Lindsey Buckingham is 31
RORY GALLAGHER ON TOP 10
Mick taylor
+ ALVIN LEE. CHEERS.
I turned it off at Bruce Springstein.
Steve Howe #55? For real? Santana? Lukather? Schon? Hackett? Elliot Randall? Fripp?
My top 100 has Neil at 17
@@bigredmachine1I wanna play like niel young said no one ever
Steve Howe at 55 is unreal. No Larry Carlton at all.
Fripp’s in there at 43. Too low for me.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe is 🔥
Glad she made the list
Mark knopfler is up there with the very best.
Good list.
What a rubbish list; Gary Moore at 58, Joe Bonamassa at 74? Both should be in the top 10! (or even top 5 for Gary!)
Music is not a competition and it's his list. On your list you can put Gary Moore wherever you want
No Steve Hackett? Firth of Fifth might just be the greatest prog rock solo ever, besides Aqualung obviously,
It's one of my favorite solos
Both Martin Barre and Steve Hackett should be on here
I agree
Steve Hackett is up there and for me in the top 3 are Jeff Beck Rory Gallagher and Ritchie Blackmore
Steve hackett is criminally underrated, he's got an amazing sense of melody and his approach to guitar playing in general is really unique, despite his departure from the band, he's been keeping Genesis's prog spirit alive with his multiple solo projects, but I guess that these lists are just based off of fame, and not the musicians's songwriting skills. I don't approve of any of those lists who only rely on quantity over quality, but I really don't care about electric guitar either, i just really like steve hackett as a person and as a songwriter.
Need Robin Trower and Steve Hackett on this list. Also Steve Howe should be higher up.
I agree, Fripp should be higher up as well
Glad to see Alex Lifeson up there
I was about to say that. On many lists he is in the 80s or 90s
My all time favourite is Blackmore!
You have wonderful taste. Only we know that he is number 1
@@Light_Ray_Studio Oh yes!
Missing: Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Alan Holsworth, Julian Bream, Andres Segovia, Leo Kottke, John Fahey, Wes Montgomery, John McLaughlin, Michael Hedges, Phil Keaggy
Neil Young over Allen Collins? Yeah I'm going there, A southern man don't need him around any how! No way!
1 note Young.
David Gilmour ❤🖤🎸
In my opinion the best to ever exist
No way better than Jimmy Page

Rory Gallagher and Mark Knopfler should always be top 10 at least!
Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, John Sykes and Buckethead are definitely in my top 10.
And Rory Gallagher
George Lynch, Jason Becker, Michael Lee Firkins, Jake E. Lee, Jeff Watson, Vinnie Moore, Michael Romeo, Uli Jon Roth, Warren DeMartini...
Randy Rhoads was gifted but it was quite a short career.
This list is not about technical skills.
Blackmore is better than all the ones you put in front of him! Purple Rules! List ???😢
Did I miss him or is Allan Holdsworth really not included!? There's a bunch of guitarists in here who would cite him as a major influence.
Such a list without him (and a few others, Jason Becker, Shawn Lane) is a bad joke.
Yep. Eddie Van Halen being one of those for sure.
Yeah dude missed several greats. John McLaughlin(sp?), Rik Emmett, Roy Clark just a few.
@@DenkendeMystik-ll8oi shawn lane was a beast
Allan was, in his words, too jazz for rock aficionados and too rock for jazz purists. One of the greatest free improvisers to ever touch the instrument (and also the technologically advanced but unreliable SynthAxe) but died penniless.
No Mike Oldfield
No Buckethead
FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO MENTIONS MIKE OLDFIELD.
Jokes aside, is unreal how he's consistently overlooked in the guitar world, when he doesn't has to envy anybody. His versatility in the string instruments, his technique with the electric guitar, his solos, his compositions all around...
No John petrucci
REALLY great to see my man Jeff Healey on this list.
Peter Green should be in the top 5.
Ever hear of Roy Clark?
I always wonder what the criteria for lists like this is. Skill? Fame? Influence?
All the above. I'm glad it's not done purely on virtuosity.
Probably a mix, but then it‘s still weird. Like, how can one compare Dave Mustaine, B. B. King, Chet Atkins and Alex Lifeson for example?
Great point.I would have put guitar pioneers first because they had to break barriers. They did all the heavy lifting.
Somebody rolled the dice
Fame and influence, skill is debatable on most of those lists, cuz people really don't care about how skilled you are as a musician, they only care about how much you can sell. The truth of the matter is that people who really care about treating music as art that requires skill, care, and overall passion, is really the minority in this one big shit show, while it's way easier to sell quick hits for cheap and making sure that as many people will follow you. Quantity over quality, simple as that. I don't approve of this behaviour, neither do i condone it, but after years of promoting underrated artists to my peers, i just realized that people don't care and will never care, that sucks...
Let's be honest, all of these musician rankings are really individual...
I don't think there's a "best" so-and-so of any instrument. There are people, who can play and people, who cannot and anything beyond that is personal perception.
I personally wouldn't rate Kurt Cobain over Dave Mustaine, but both of them are absolute legends, so why bother trying to put one above the other.
I'm still happy to see peeps like Ritchie Blackmore on here, nonetheless. :)
eddie hazel is underrated a lot, i love funkadelic
Rory Gallagher le maître c'est Hendrix qui le disait
C'est vrai ?
My top would be
1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Eddie Van Halen
3. Jimmy Page
4. David Gilmour
5. Eric Clapton
6. Stevie Ray Vaughan
7. Brian May
8. Tony Iommi
9. B.B. King
10. Slash
Clapton and page? No way u put them above SRV😂
John petrucci is better than all of them
B.B King is overrated
strong top ten. i didnt look at the whole thing, but consider shaw, dharma, nugent, montross, perry could rank in a top 25.
dream theater, yeah petrucci is very good.@@lucaskyte-tremblay924
Great list but if you are talking about best guitarists you should include Jazz, Classical and other genres guitarist. Just to mention one, what about including Paco de Lucia?
Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes?
Finally some Knopfler appreciation! Clapton attended a bunch of ds concerts in the early 80s because he was facinated by his playing! Just that tells you a lot!
Seeing mark K is a better player then Clapton , but K was part of a men’s club and he and Elton z John and others threatened to resign unless they excepted woman , ok then you should join a woman’s club . When Rick players Get involved in politics or wokeness I’m done , I’ve lost all respect for, still live sultans !!!!!
It's hard to beat that Alchemy Live version of Sultans of Swing. Great performance.
i am very happy that you put david gilmour and ritchie blackmore in that list
David is in my opinion the best to ever exist.
Lol, tell me who dont put David on the list, thats stupid if they do that 😂
@@vippi1 some of the "cool" ones that think that he is overrated
Why gilmour is literally everywhere lol
Not a bad list. Some doubts- Kurt Cobain in top 100? and Pete Townsend/Keith Richards in top 20? No Roy Clark?!
Alvin Lee played mostly notes and not chords. He should be in the top ten!
R.I.P. ALVIN YOU ARE THE BEST.🍉
Have you ever heard of Rory Gallagher???
He made the list.. he was fire BTW
@@slimsantilli4476 Yes he did but way too Low.
Keith Richards is not better than Rory Gallagher or John Frusciante

Eric Johnson??
Great video! Make one with like the top 50 guitar solos!
Thanks for including gary goat moore! He should be P1 though.

He should never be above Page. That's just silly.
I miss Adrian Belew on the list.
Jimi Hendrix will always be the best 🗣🔥🔥🔥
In terms of technique? No
In terms of accuracy? No
Compositional skills? No
Innovation? Yes
Charisma? Yes
He is important. But the "best" player?
Andrés Segovia?
Paco De Lucia?
Django Reinhard?
John Williams?
Shawn Lane?
Alan Holdsworth?
Jason Becker?

@@Heihachi8 There is a guy here that says "John Petrucci is the GOAT."
DEFINITELY NOT.
He is great... but really?
Such a verdict is never "objevtive".
pesonally I think buckethead should be there
I stopped at 64 because there are already a few that should be way higher on the list than where they were posted
It's not a ranking bro
Cry about it
Merle Travis, Glenn Campbell, Jake E Lee, Dick Wagner, John Sykes. Just to name a few.
Where's Lil Wayne
😂😂🤣👍 .
another boomer friendly list, with almost no modern guitarists, but huge agreement that Hendrix is first
Right!
Jason Becker, Shawn Lane, and so on...
Jimi is number 1! Always 😊😊😊
TOP are Ritchie Blackmore and Tony Iommi.
Blackmore is the greatest of them all
Finally! Tom Scholz on a Top Guitarist List! So underrated for Boston!
100% agree with top 10
Finally Michael Schenker made a top 100 list but should have been rated higher like in the top 25
Great list, now do the same with basists 😅
He did that! Maybe because of you 😉
Cobain better than West, Lee or Collins? 🤔
Beautiful video. I'll get some ideas for one of my videos! 😉
В этом списке не хватает Buckethead, а Ritchie Blackmore и Marty Friedman должен быть выше ↑
Ritchie Blackmore number 1 for me, the coolest virtuoso
Great list regardless of position changes. I would trade some marabalistas for Tommy Bolin and John Fahey, but it was good.
Ritchie Blackmore #1
Love the Kath recognition! Much deserved rarely given.
Ritchie Blackmore
Pat Metheny
Steve Hackett- Genesis
Steve Hillage- Gong
Alan Holdsworth
John Fogerty - CC Revival
Robin Trower
Danny Diaz - Steely Dan
Bill Nelson - Be bob deluxe
Martin Barre - Jethro tull
John Petrucci -Dream theater
Andew Latimer- Camel
Jan Akkerman- Focus
John Mclaughlin
Paco de Lucia
Andres Segovia
For my taste miss many great musicians on this list Vinnie Moore Matteo Mancuso( is the great for the future) Paco de Lucia John Mc Laughlin Neal Schon and many more ...
Neal and Eric Johnson were most notably absent. 😮 Holds worth too.
great to see johnny marr finally getting some recognition!
WOW!?! And not really in a good way. Clapton #5? Beck #9?? There are some guitarist on this list that are too good to be placed at the far end, and some that shouldn't be on this list period. Not to mention a few that didn't make this list. Bottom line, it's just someone's list or a group there of so don't get caught up on my comments. But come on, Clapton#5 & Beck #9??....again, WOW!?!🎸
What dingus puts Bruce Springsteen above Bonnie Raitt?
Or me. 😅😂
David Gilmour is not a better guitarist than Jimmy Page.
No mention of mike oldfield
These are in no particular order, right?
Pretty good list. It makes me happy that David Gilmour received a higher spot than in other lists. I would have placed Brian May higher.
Considering the fact that Clapton fell off as a guitarist after 1970, he does not belong in the top 5
Thank you for adding Peter Frampton is a fantastic guitarist and deserves a spot in the 100 best!
since I saw Livin`Blues in 1972 my interest in guitar-music was steadily growing, discovering more and more brilliant players - therefore I find this selection quite narrow minded - numerous players I never heard of are mentioned, but missing for sure are Larry Carlton, Elliott Randall, Michael Karoli, Frank Marino, Lightnin`Hopkins, Eric Gales, Gabor Szabo, Roy Buchanan, Paul Kossoff, Leo Kottke, Larry Coryell, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, the great Lenny Breau......... and, I forgot - is John McLaughlin in it?
Jimmy Page should be in #2!
Same
how is gary more on 58. in any of these list he has to be top 10 atleast
My top 10:
1.Jimi Hendrix
2.SRV
3.Eddie Van Halen
4.David Gilmour
5.BB King
6.Gary Moore
7.Jimmy Page
8.Eric Clapton
9.Jeff Beck
10.Albert King
John petrucci is better than all of them
You have the first one right...the rest are interchangeable.
Dumbest shit I've heard since watching Biden try to talk in complete sentences
Good list
SRV literally gave me the will to play guitar (after I started playing)
This is a bad joke!
No Andres Segovia?
No Alan Holdsworth?
No Jason Becker?
Who rolled the dice?
😂😂😂
Albert King should be higher
Nope, keep putting JH above EVH.
Steve Vai Is My Favorite Guitarist 👍🏻
John Petrucci not being here is kind of ridiculous. He‘s definetly a better player than most on this list, and he could definetly be argued to be more influential than most in the bottom half.
prince is an underrated guitarist
Can you give me some good guitar songs by Prince other than “Purple Rain” & “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” cover? I keep hearing he’s great, but all I hear are his cheesy keyboard heavy songs that I despise. It can’t be just those 2 songs that his “greatness” is based on. There has to be a bunch of songs. Which are they? It would be greatly appreciated to opening my eyes to him.
@@AntonXul Look up his Creep Coachella performance
Maybe most underrated of all time. Imho his George Harrison tribute While My Guitar…just might be the most creative solo ever
@@billythekidd-go3hv
I listened to this. Nothing special there.
Can someone give me a list of good guitar songs by Prince, especially Prince originals? It seems covers are his only guitar songs. If you guys are truly Prince fans this should be easy. I’m not convinced and starting to think he’s overrated. I want to learn his good guitar songs, but don’t want to go through the horrible keyboard fluff to find them. If you know them, list them.
@@AntonXul Your instincts are right. He is overrated as a guitar player
Glen Campbell should be top 10, but is not even in your top 100? 😂
Love the Frusciante respect, but I think that Jerry Cantrell should be here as well. His riffs and solos are insane, listen to Died if you haven’t
I was expecting to see Jerry on the list too.
Most underrated guitar player of his era and left off this list Ernie Isley.
Keith Richards is my favourite guitarist. He gets a bad rep these days because kids think that guitar playing is all about soloing and shredding. Keith was never a technical guy like Eddie, Page or Hendrix. Clapton, who played with him in the Dirty Mac, was objectively a better player than him. However, I don't think there has been any other riff maker as iconic as Richards. He created some of the most iconic riffs and tunes and he did that all with really simple chords and techniques. You can easily forget solos and shreds but a damn good riff never leaves your mind. Ik his playing has gotten weaker over the year but that's not even an argument, the dude's 80 years old.
Also, Mick Taylor was fking amazing too. Very underrated. He would have even surpassed Richards' career if he had done something more significant after 1974
Tony Iommi has written more and better riffs and the same can arguably be said for Jimmy Page, I love Keef though
Rankings make no sense. Knopfler only 15th ? Hendrix systematically first ? The important is the emotion these talented artists provide us at certain times, the rest is bs.
