Steve hackett is criminally underrated, he's got an amazing sense of melody and his approach to guitar playing in general is really unique, despite his departure from the band, he's been keeping Genesis's prog spirit alive with his multiple solo projects, but I guess that these lists are just based off of fame, and not the musicians's songwriting skills. I don't approve of any of those lists who only rely on quantity over quality, but I really don't care about electric guitar either, i just really like steve hackett as a person and as a songwriter.

Fame and influence, skill is debatable on most of those lists, cuz people really don't care about how skilled you are as a musician, they only care about how much you can sell. The truth of the matter is that people who really care about treating music as art that requires skill, care, and overall passion, is really the minority in this one big shit show, while it's way easier to sell quick hits for cheap and making sure that as many people will follow you. Quantity over quality, simple as that. I don't approve of this behaviour, neither do i condone it, but after years of promoting underrated artists to my peers, i just realized that people don't care and will never care, that sucks...

"the best guitar players are the ones we never heard of"; Richie Blackmore. Thanks dude, I proudly accept your endorsement! My endorsements? Of course top six goes like this. Garcia, Hendrix, Iommi, Gibbons, Weatherman(C.O.C.), & Deaner(Ween). Pick On!!!!!!
FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO MENTIONS MIKE OLDFIELD. Jokes aside, is unreal how he's consistently overlooked in the guitar world, when he doesn't has to envy anybody. His versatility in the string instruments, his technique with the electric guitar, his solos, his compositions all around...
Keith Richards is my favourite guitarist. He gets a bad rep these days because kids think that guitar playing is all about soloing and shredding. Keith was never a technical guy like Eddie, Page or Hendrix. Clapton, who played with him in the Dirty Mac, was objectively a better player than him. However, I don't think there has been any other riff maker as iconic as Richards. He created some of the most iconic riffs and tunes and he did that all with really simple chords and techniques. You can easily forget solos and shreds but a damn good riff never leaves your mind. Ik his playing has gotten weaker over the year but that's not even an argument, the dude's 80 years old. Also, Mick Taylor was fking amazing too. Very underrated. He would have even surpassed Richards' career if he had done something more significant after 1974
@@dazednconfused-r4o Check out some of Buckethead's 700+ releases. I swear he plays more amazing riffs in one song than some of these guys come up with in their whole careers.
Great list but if you are talking about best guitarists you should include Jazz, Classical and other genres guitarist. Just to mention one, what about including Paco de Lucia?
Allan was, in his words, too jazz for rock aficionados and too rock for jazz purists. One of the greatest free improvisers to ever touch the instrument (and also the technologically advanced but unreliable SynthAxe) but died penniless.
Let's be honest, all of these musician rankings are really individual... I don't think there's a "best" so-and-so of any instrument. There are people, who can play and people, who cannot and anything beyond that is personal perception. I personally wouldn't rate Kurt Cobain over Dave Mustaine, but both of them are absolute legends, so why bother trying to put one above the other. I'm still happy to see peeps like Ritchie Blackmore on here, nonetheless. :)
Jeff Healey is amazing and so underrated! I was waiting for him to appear on the list. I miss Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton who are not on the list, the two best unknown guitarists of all time. Frank Marino, Albert Collins, Philip Sayce and Buckethead is one of the greatest too, miss all them on the list and some brazilian guitarists like Thiago Castanho and Bento Hinoto.
Tom Verlaine from Television is super underrated, one of the pioneers of the post punk guitar sound. I am also a big fan of Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains, and Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth
I would also like to add Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Alan Sparhawk from Low, Kele Okereke from Bloc Party, Vincent Accardi from Brand New, and Stephen Malkmus from Pavement. Just to add a few more

You kinda dropped the ball with this one. Neil Young and Kurt Cobain are so out of place in this list. But if you're going to include those guitarists because of their influence rather than their proficiency, then Johnny Ramone certainly belongs on this list.

Mark knopfler is up there with the very best.
Good list.
Finally some Knopfler appreciation! Clapton attended a bunch of ds concerts in the early 80s because he was facinated by his playing! Just that tells you a lot!
Seeing mark K is a better player then Clapton , but K was part of a men’s club and he and Elton z John and others threatened to resign unless they excepted woman , ok then you should join a woman’s club . When Rick players Get involved in politics or wokeness I’m done , I’ve lost all respect for, still live sultans !!!!!
It's hard to beat that Alchemy Live version of Sultans of Swing. Great performance.
So glad you’re back. It’s been soooooo long. On of my fav YT channels
Glad to see Alex Lifeson up there
I was about to say that. On many lists he is in the 80s or 90s
I always wonder what the criteria for lists like this is. Skill? Fame? Influence?
All the above. I'm glad it's not done purely on virtuosity.
Probably a mix, but then it‘s still weird. Like, how can one compare Dave Mustaine, B. B. King, Chet Atkins and Alex Lifeson for example?
Great point.I would have put guitar pioneers first because they had to break barriers. They did all the heavy lifting.
Somebody rolled the dice
Fame and influence, skill is debatable on most of those lists, cuz people really don't care about how skilled you are as a musician, they only care about how much you can sell. The truth of the matter is that people who really care about treating music as art that requires skill, care, and overall passion, is really the minority in this one big shit show, while it's way easier to sell quick hits for cheap and making sure that as many people will follow you. Quantity over quality, simple as that. I don't approve of this behaviour, neither do i condone it, but after years of promoting underrated artists to my peers, i just realized that people don't care and will never care, that sucks...
Love the Kath recognition! Much deserved rarely given.
RORY GALLAGHER ON TOP 10
Mick taylor
+ ALVIN LEE. CHEERS.
Gotta love a list that puts Ace Frehley above Bonamassa and Satriani! Quite some thinking went into this list, impressive. A "greatest" list is of course always subjective but I like that this one puts the guitarist's impact above technical skills.

It would be better to narrow it even more by just allowing guitarists who dedicated to the guitar. Kurt Cobain was too busy being a songwriter and a front man to care about the guitar
I like that you put Adrian Belew
John petrucci is miles better than all of them

Peter Green should be in the top 5.
No Mike Oldfield
No Buckethead
FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO MENTIONS MIKE OLDFIELD.
Jokes aside, is unreal how he's consistently overlooked in the guitar world, when he doesn't has to envy anybody. His versatility in the string instruments, his technique with the electric guitar, his solos, his compositions all around...
No John petrucci
Considering the fact that Clapton fell off as a guitarist after 1970, he does not belong in the top 5
He would have even surpassed Richards' career if he had done something more significant after 1974
Tony Iommi has written more and better riffs and the same can arguably be said for Jimmy Page, I love Keef though
@@dazednconfused-r4o Check out some of Buckethead's 700+ releases. I swear he plays more amazing riffs in one song than some of these guys come up with in their whole careers.

Not a bad list. Some doubts- Kurt Cobain in top 100? and Pete Townsend/Keith Richards in top 20? No Roy Clark?!
Need Robin Trower and Steve Hackett on this list. Also Steve Howe should be higher up.
I agree, Fripp should be higher up as well
Let's be honest, all of these musician rankings are really individual...
Great list regardless of position changes. I would trade some marabalistas for Tommy Bolin and John Fahey, but it was good.
Pretty good list. It makes me happy that David Gilmour received a higher spot than in other lists. I would have placed Brian May higher.
Just to add a few more
Alvin Lee played mostly notes and not chords. He should be in the top ten!
R.I.P. ALVIN YOU ARE THE BEST.🍉
Merle Travis, Glenn Campbell, Jake E Lee, Dick Wagner, John Sykes. Just to name a few.
I stopped at 64 because there are already a few that should be way higher on the list than where they were posted

You kinda dropped the ball with this one. Neil Young and Kurt Cobain are so out of place in this list. But if you're going to include those guitarists because of their influence rather than their proficiency, then Johnny Ramone certainly belongs on this list.
