As a professional artist/illustrator for the last 30 years, I have lived a significant portion of my awake life working through the night alone. Every now and then I make the switch working in the daytime and sleeping at night. Sometimes I will live both in the day and work all night (don't ask me how) with broken, limited sleep and lots of confusing wake ups (is it 6pm or 6am? What day is it?). The isolation is both terrible and beautiful but the peace to think and to just BE is amazing. My life is as unbalanced as it could be and I would not recommend this to just anyone. I grew up in the 70s and 80s - GenX - latch key kid - raised myself. When I was in school I had to live like everyone else, but on the weekends you would find me up all night making art, sleeping through the day, then back up and at it again. I was doing at 10 what I now do at 53. Sometimes I think I am killing myself - sometimes I feel like I am squeezing out as much as I can from this life. I think both might be the same thing. To anyone reading this who is up all night... hello... hope you are OK. Morning is coming. Be well.

    • @-mattwood
      @-mattwood Месяц назад

@@SleepyAzi I'm almost positive that it will take years off of my life. I don't have any major issues... yet. Could be genetics... but I see people with NORMAL lives dealing with more issues than me. I'm trying to do more 'breath work' these days... it makes a difference... it changes your physiology pretty dramatically in just a short period of time, and reduces stress.

It’s so strange seeing somebody so this.. I’ve always found myself preferring nighttime activity rather than not but being in a society and going to school forces a schedule…. However ever since I stopped going to school, found more flexible work I find it extremely difficult to follow a diurnal schedule. At best I find myself alternating between several hours of sleep an activity.

I actually have a condition in which my internal clock is flipped. I spent almost a year in the night. I still stay up quite late even with my medications but now I see way more daylight. I prefer the night as it’s calm, quite, and peaceful. I’m not a social person so I like the solitude of the night. I’m autistic so people are hard to socialize with and get a read on. At night I feel more like myself and feel more comfortable behaving outside the norm. I had a vibrant social life with my friends as we would get on discord and talk for hours while we played games or listened to music. Now I barely talk to my friends and have become even more antisocial. My mom wanted me to have a normal schedule and actually see me throughout the day but I dint think she expected the consequences it would have on me. I will likely stay on this schedule until I graduate college and become a nurse as then I can just work the night shift. Life for those of us who are naturally nocturnal is quite hard as society wants us to change how we naturally function for everyone but ourselves.

Kind of like a later and later daylight savings each day until it switches around to being nocturnal and vice versa. Basically every week is like a completely different lifestyle and I enjoy it right now. What time do you usually eat if you have a set time?

    • @WesManGuitar
      @WesManGuitar 2 года назад +1

@@sugma6723 I might be a weird case seeing as I usually only eat two meals a day, but I eat one within a few hours of waking up (usually around 5-7pm-ish) and then another one while I'm at work if I'm able to. If not, then I usually eat right after getting home. Meal prep is big for that because I usually don't feel like cooking when I'm that close to bed time. You may find something different works for you.
One thing I will say if you're keeping a similar sleep schedule to mine is I'm a huge coffee/energy drink/tea drinker, but I try to avoid caffeine after 1am as it kinda messes with my sleep.

@@WesManGuitar thanks for the advice mate :) , I can’t believe I’ve never thought of pre preparing meals that will probably help a lot 😂
I can keep to my schedule pretty well without caffeine but I do have one within the first couple hours of my shift after my days off.
The first day back is always rough because I always turn my sleep schedule on its head for the sake of my social life 😂

I stopped doing that about 2 years ago because it absolutely ruined me for the first 2 days of work back on nights, that and all my friends are now either on nights with me or halfway around the world so our sleep schedules all align pretty well. Best of luck!

I’ve always been a night person and trying to sleep at night has been extremely hard my entire life. I currently sleep around 11am and wake up around midnight and start my day. I think I use sleep to ignore life and nighttime is just peaceful and also the best time to go gym:) I know I need to fix this but in the same time it’s just so comforting

this was a very interesting video, ive never been able to get good sleep, usually waking up multiple times during the night. But when i dont have a specific time i need to do things, like on long school breaks or covid, this leads to a really weird sleeping pattern. I end up sleeping around 11-12 hours and then stay up 15-16 hours, but that equals more than 24. Because of this i slowly cycle from sleeping at night and being awake at day, to the opposite and back again. However its not uncommon for me to get stuck in a more normal schedule of sleeping and waking up at around the same times for a few days up to a week. This has caused me to be well acquainted with both patterns and each one definitely has its pros and cons. my personal favorite is being awake from around 3pm-6am, since you wake up during daylight but still get to go to sleep while its fairly dark, but you also get a bit of daylight if you need it to do something, and the whole night to yourself.

Ornithologist here. I've been nocturnal for over 6 years. My decision to be nocturnal was purely my prerogative. Working with nocturnal birds would be easier if i were nocturnal myself, but ultimately it was not a requirement
The world never sleeps. But we all live our own lives. Our real lives affect us much more than our internet personas. I believe the world functions on the fact that humans are naturally dirrunal. When I was first exposed to the reality, I was depressed. I talked with a doctor and I had learned by the first year my serotonin levels were still at an all time low. The fact that my real world life was so affected, and everything else online was alright did not mix well. For example I would use electricity much more as I need light while I'm awake so I can keep a healthy circadian rhythm. A lot of my issues you can guess on your own.
Being nocturnal is not a tough choice, but not about anyone would, or should go for it. Often legitimate nocturne is driven by a deep passion. My justification was that I just loved night more than day. I always will.

I mean its a lot healthier to follow your bodies natural circadian rhythm. So good on you. I watcged a video recently about sleep and all sorts of stuff. I mean we evolved as humans so that one of our tribe members would always be awake. It's the safest option. One thing that strikes me as weird though is why modern society accommodates a diurnal sleep schedule when the population is about 50 50 split between nocturnal and diurnal.

This poet is actually really cool. I was in Georgia about a month ago and he stopped us as we were going to see the MLK tomb, and told us his story and read us his poetry. Apparently he had been traveling the world and reading his poetry, and surviving off of the goodness of strangers. He seemed like a really genuinely kind person, and I really want to read and hear some more of his poetry.
