The problem is that there is rarely any personal accountability for one's own actions in regards to the police. Police unions are there to protect them, and the taxpayers/city are on the hook for any financial penalties. Even if they are forced to resign or quit, they will just move to another city to get a police job there.
    The entire system is corrupt.
Fun fact: The only time I've ever had a gun pointed at my head was a corrupt sheriff in a small logging town.

@@Browne7100 The whole reason that bad apples mix their way in is because finding quality requires effort and therefore money. Being a police officer isn't a very desired profession in the US. Now more than ever after being demonized in mass from mainstream media. So competition is basically non-existent. You just need to pass the bare minimum. They will take what they can get. They even let you half as your training if it means getting you onboard, much like having kids graduate school without being able to read or do math, they just hold their hand as they boot them out the door.
Its ESPECIALLY bad in the cities. Its the worse job to land as a police officer. Its because of the insane crime rates and mortality rate. Zero support from community. There is basically no community. And the rampant corruption that hits every faucet of the city. It starts from the top.
The issues that the police have are close to what teachers are running into when it comes to working in the cities actually. Its like asking why they can't just have a standard for teachers to hold them to. There aren't enough teachers willing to work the cities for the little pay they get and are desperate to build experience and leave because of how bad the cities are. The worst get left behind since they aren't good enough to escape it.

    Here are some key points:
    • "Reform" has been called for since the 1960's. Little has been achieved. This includes policy and training changes. Be skeptical of people saying reform is the answer. Only be satisfied once you begin to see police officers going to jail for their actions.
    • Qualified Immunity is a factor in all of this, often times allowing police officers to be immune to being prosecuted for their actions. The Supreme Court has twice decided that this is not their matter to address.
    • Even if wrong-doing is found, officers often resign, the investigation is dropped, but they are able to be rehired at another department. This allows officers to continue on with their corruption, repeatedly.
    • Internal Investigations are the police investigating themselves. It should be obvious why this is unreliable for resolving problems.
    • Victims often choose settlements when suing the police department. This means that the officer is still not held to accountability and the tax payers foot the bill. The officer continues on, giving them more opportunity to strike again.
    • Many police departments operate like a gang. This has been especially true in LA.
    • Politicians are resistant to running on a police reform platform because losing the vote of police officers is seen as a probable way to lose an election. Thus, the corruption is allowed to become even worse.
And most importantly: Criticizing the police does not mean you want a world without them. Yes, we need police. Yes, we need someone to stop the bank robbers. Yes, we want someone to call when there is someone creeping around the house at night. It should not be such a big ask to simply want accountability with them. This is a simple request.

    @fredreeves7652 Месяц назад

When it comes to police abuse, we need to look no further than those law enforcement and military persons (current and former), who attended and actively participated in the J-6 riot and insurrection. The connection will be made clear below.
I was shocked to find SO MANY participants were both current and former law enforcement/military; I was truly astonished because it was so antithetical to their collective missions… and training! After much analysis, two predominant reasons surfaced to explain this antithetical observation of these groups’ participation.
First and foremost, these two law enforcement entities have been propagandized by the far right for decades, by the likes of Fox News, Newsmax, and Rush Limbaugh, both in police stations and military bases at home and abroad for decades! This is a case of garbage in garbage out. Hence, it was no wonder why and how these otherwise, patriots could turn against the very nation and constitution they swore to protect and defend. Therefore, decades of far-right indoctrination and straight-up brainwashing explains half of the J-6 insurrectionists, but what of the other half, who do they represent and what were they defending and fighting for?
The remaining participants comprise the sycophants within the Trump and Trumpism camps, principally, your hardcore MAGA bigots, racists, and xenophobes… the Jews, Blacks, and people of color won’t replace us, folks. These are the two primary groups that comprised the J-6 insurrection.
Now, through extrapolation and because they were embedded in the J-6 groupings, we can easily discern that the above kind of people who attended and participated in the J-6 insurrection would also be found in the current population of law enforcement ranks; exercising via their guns and batons and MACE, their hatred, bigotry and racist and xenophobia views and feelings upon the public they allegedly serve and protect. Hence, their personal views toward the people they are hired to defend, protect, and serve are actually expressed in the form of police beatings and shootings. These types of people have been allowed to infiltrate law enforcement circles and departments for decades, knowingly and unknowingly by law enforcement leadership… especially in poor and underserved neighborhoods around the nation. This essentially explains, in a nutshell, how and why there is so much conflict, mistrust, and confrontation between the officers assigned to a community and the citizens they are supposed to serve, defend, and protect.
As you recall, about two years ago, when Fox News completely went off the rails, the nation had learned that Fox News had been propagandizing our service personnel for decades, and a movement was afoot to get them banned from all military posts; currently, I have no idea if that was accomplished, however, one thing is for sure, the Trump Republicans would never hear of it or approve such a ban!

Add in no bail releases across the city and we had subway pushings from repeat offenders that ended in the deaths of 6 New Yorkers in 8 months.
