Ok so its ok I know English is not your first language. 2nd of all yes the modern Challenger is way much better than a family car Charger- We all know that. 3rd.....it has 4 doors brooooo pffhahahahaha. RIP The Last real Charger was made in 1974.
The New Current Charger went the same way as the 1971 Dodge Coronet. it started out as a Cheap, Reliable family car, Became a Muscle car in 1965-1970, and went back to the 4 Door Family sedan it became in 1971
I have to say dodge really dropped the ball with the way that they designed these new chargers... I understand the idea of dodge not wanting to have their cars fighting each other in the same area (aka 2 door charger vs 2 door challenger) but they should've pushed something else to go four door rather than something as iconic as the charger
I agree Camaro Matt Dodge totally fcked up the Charger with that 4 door BS. If anyone at that european Dodge company had any sense they would have named this car Coronet NOT Charger Coronets were available in 2 door and 4 door. They should have saved the Charger name for something worthy of the name Charger. Hey dosent the thought of a 4 door Camaro excite you too? Of course it dosent because the still American GM guys know better than to take one of thier most iconic cars and toy with it like dodge did
This man right here above this comment... ^ this is the reason why he is the Dodge King! The coronet name would have absolutely made more sense for this new generation charger! It is a crying shame that dodge did this to the charger name because I will be honest and say that I love the 1969 Charger so much more than the 1970-72 challenger and the last two years the challenger was made in the 70s dont appeal to me in the least... I think Dodge should be listening to the Dodge King from now on!
Thanks for that Compliment Matt You know it doesnt take a rocket scientist to study the history of a car company. I am so with you on the love of the 1969 Charger you have no idea and thats why its so easy to see these dodge engineers today clearly DID NOT study the true bloodline of the Charger when they designed the new one. THANK GOD we dont see GM announcing that they are bringing back the Chevelle and its going to be a 4 door or a 4 door Corvette. or Camaro These cars are Icons they represent the best and they are known and loved the world over and should not be experimented with. The Ford guys certainly are not rushing a 4 door Mustang into production either That would be absolutely horrid. No only the Dodge guys had to be the idiots. Then again it used to be the big 3 here in america but now its the big 2 because only GM and Ford are true red white and blue American car companies now Dodge is not american and that probably has a lot to do with it because the old American Chrysler Corporation would have never allowed such a stupid idea as 4 door Charger to go into production
BigC I agree with you BUT they are right. They should have named it a coronet being it had a 4 door version. I love my Charger Daytona but they should have kept it a 2 door. They should have ran the challenger then when they wanted a break stop the challenger and bring out the charger to replace it and so on. Just my opinion.
What they didn't show reveals more than what they focussed on: Namely, the regular Charger screenshot and not the others. Not wanting to offend FCA, no doubt. But the Hellcat has a drag coefficient of .335, the '69 winged warrior .28, so, no, not even close.
They Should've used the Charger 500 compaired to the Normal Charger, Because the 500 has a completely differant Grill, and rear window section compaired to the normal Charger.
The 500 still generated a ton of lift up front, the flat face only helped with drag coefficient, not with actual down force, it was only a few MPH faster than the normal R/T
Charger 500 at 190 MPH and level had 620# lift on the front, -200# at the rear. When raked 3 degrees, the front lift was 320# and the rear was -240#. Those numbers are from Chrysler wind tunnel documents at AeroWarriors.com
There was a version of this story in a magazine somewhere, years ago, that showed the numbers and I put those numbers into a spreadsheet. 1969 Charger R/T had 373# lift at the nose, -80# at the rear, at 120 MPH. I later overwrote the Daytona numbers with the factory document numbers I got from the "Chrysler Document Archive" at AeroWarriors.com. so don't have the Daytona at 120 MPH, but do have it at 190, which is 0 on the nose and 0 to -250 on the rear.
Another interesting comparison would be the 1971 Dodge Charger vs these 3 cars. The 1971 Dodge Charger was designed from day 1 in the wind tunnel and they advertised it was as aerodynamic as the 1969 Daytona because of its Coke Bottle shape. The 3rd Generation Charger was very successful in NASCAR.
1971 Dodge Charger (GW-23) had a CD of around .38 - aerowarriors.com/cda/cda_08_101370.html It was designed to have a nose cone and wing, but when NASCAR put the restrictions on the 'aero' cars, it was relegated to being 'normal'. NASCAR also removed the side glass in 1970 to help reduce speeds (check out the B pillars on those 1971 cars and you'll see that teams would shape them as an extra spoiler).
Yeah I almost forgot, those daytonas ,I was watching a NASCAR special where a guy say NASCAR wanted the daytonas tested before they could run in NASCAR,so Benny Parsons and three other drivers tested four Daytona s at Talladega Races at before the season started dodge said ok,Benny Parson said it was the scariest thing he ever did or drove he went 235 mph on Talladega super speed way on bias ply race tires,so even thou they said ok it was a little too early for stock cars to be going that fast,or ever most people don't realize that a Boeing 747 a plane over 250 feet long comes off the ground at 160mph,but it designed to fly.
You can find the full numbers on the article page. Cheers! www.autofocus.ca/news-events/features/the-69-daytona-is-as-slippery-as-a-new-charger-hellcat
Growning up I own more dodge challenger s and Barracuda than any one you ever met when I started driving, and the one thing about my E bodied cars and other dodge cars the front of the car starts off smaller and as the shape moves to the rear it slowly gets larger and then small again I can tell u from driving experience the fast that they go the more stable and glue to the road they are,and when your going NASCAR kinda speed and you are just barely holding the wheel it inspires u to go faster because you believe in your car it ain't scared and u ain't scare, before 1970 most dodge cars were what we call a flying brick, not very aerodynamic but great motors and there transmissions were a step ahead too,I went to go look at a 1974 360 cuda 4 speed car that a mechanic friend own he said I got a cuda come over and see it one day,and when I did he said come on get in drive it around a little 4 speed manual trans car owner say shift it but don't step on the clutch, hah hah ,what I look and he says go ahead do it,so I did littlevbonk and it goes right into gear,I'm like what the heck,...he say I just put rebuilt the trans all new brass nice car 5000 grand and it could have been mine didn t have it had four other ones thou...very interesting lets see what this is all about.
"The charger hellcat doesn't need the nose cone, or huge wing to achieve the same speed as they did in 1969". Very true. It also doesn't need the look, stance, or presence as the Daytona either.
Bobba68 Dont worry. They dont know what the hell they are talking about. "The Hellcat doesn't need the nose cone or wing to go the same speed as they did in 69"? Well its funny how the Daytona dosent need a supercharger or fuel injection or electronic computer controlled ignition or lightweight alloy and plastic parts to do the same speed as the hellcat
Sure didn’t learn much from this. Anyone who has done even a modicum of research on the Daytona knows everything they discussed here... and more. I was hoping for drag coefficient numbers - the Daytona established the landmark of .28 (Superbird was .31), and the Hellcat is around .35. Nothing beats the old winged cars for aerodynamic advancement. (And the street Hemis could crank out 465 hp @ 6K rpm on breaker points and 60 year old carb technology - Godzilla's lawnmower engine.)
I think the stock '69 is far better looking than the other two but as they say: "If aesthetics equaled aerodynamics, the E-Type Jaguar would be the fastest car in the world". And no mr. lab guy, A-pillars are not the same as drip rails. A pillars are the front roof support. Drip rails run along there then back across the roof and down the B-pillars to the trunk to catch rain. Now they are integrated into the door-roof seam for better aesthetics and aero.
The hellcat looks good and all, but it doesn't have that 'wow' factor that the other two do. The car just looks like most other modern sports cars, nice, but boring in comparison to the other two.
it doesnt. 69/Daytona are still better head turners than any modern charger. why? because they are RARE. you can get immaculate hellcat almost any day, but Daytona or charger 500? not even close.
I love the look of the daytona over the stock, dont get me wrong the stock is a damn good looking car, but I prefer the daytona, and would appreciate it if people saw the same even if they dont prefer the look, at least it's a wing and not some dumb teenage aluminum spoiler
I will say this about my E body's when I look back at redesigning the car for aerodynamics sake the first thing my italian side of me realize s is the glass angles are to steep and need to smoother a laid back more, once I learned that they slicked the back window in the real Daytona s that how u tell a fake right away...if u know.
I will tell u if u don't know the front grill being open area the car shake bad the stock front end its creating lift I didn't know that but I remembered that front grill shaking just a little over 55 mph like 70mph over 55.the rest of the car was nice ,and I thought it was the charger 500 that had the flush grill and headlights and flush rear window,u know how those got built don't you the 500s were left over Daytona body's to race in NASCAR they had to build production street legal for the pubic sale cars,a certain number first year it was 1900 something next year it was 1390 something next year it was ban because it was way to fast,so they did build any,and then they banned big blocks.dodge put that 500 logo on a lot of different cars just to torture us... I seen a car with a 500 logo and I say hey what's in that it a 500 and guy says 318 nope original motor huh,why does it say 500 then ah silence wrong number... Don't know dodge like that name he say...ok
UHHH yeah they do...STOCK Hellcat Charger with race tires and roll cage averaged 202 MPH at Talledega. 207 on the straights. DUUUHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The car is explained better on the article page here, but it's what they call a "Day Two" car: an authentic Daytona modified with that paint job not long after it was bought new (for example, on "day two" of ownership). "Discotona" is an unrestored survivor example of a period custom Daytona, making it exceedingly rare and valuable, even if the paint job isn't everyone's favourite. www.autofocus.ca/news-events/features/the-69-daytona-is-as-slippery-as-a-new-charger-hellcat
That good that is on the hellcat charger is the hood that was deleted from the AAR CUDA I was talking about I could understand the stripes being a bit much for mom a pop public, being a car painter maintenance of the flat back is a pain in the buttocks Mr president.someone always itching to mess that shit up,but I do love the look, sorry, wait could u give one car with it and one car with out it,sorry I bleed mopars....
Whoever design the new charger weren't that good in designing this newer charger Dang charger looks like a Chevy and a 4 door charger to me the new charger is a terribly designed I could of done a better job in the designing of the new charger .. First of there is no way I would make a 4 door charger that's just crazy to me the new charger looks like the Malibu Chevy lol so fuuny
When I started road racing motorcycle I really started being a student of aerodynamic, because u was going 150mph on a race track and u draft everything u can for an advantage, that's when I learned that the air coming off the back of the vehicle the drag facter is probably the most important part of a cars aero design...that's the reason the back of every car on the road today all looks the same, pretty boring,it for gas mileage, but still boring...see you all thanks good stuff, hey what about those NASA guys I said Chrysler must have had working for them,no,honestly all you would have to do is look at an FA 18,OR 16 or The space shuttle and u would see dodge aero influences, the 1971 Road Runner one of my favorite car designs is a small version automotive version of the space shuttle ironically the sister car is named the Satellite I did not that one coming...yeah I did but it took a few years coz I could take my eyes off my challengers and my Cudas...please don't tell anyone I think the 71 Road Runner is the coolest looking body design ever, and that coming from someone who collects E body's only, sorry when it comes to driving fast aero and size frontle area count and plain just bad ass looks Road Runner 1971...has it hands down....
REALLY??? Tell us more Mr. Science!!! Hey Mr. KNBS...after reading all the wrong info you wrote about E body Mopars...in particular the T/A cars...then reading your scientific hypotheses on the winged Mopars, I think myself or anyone for that matter can come to the conclusion you have more shit than a bag full of assholes....that am a fact...Jack!!!
I'D STILL RATHER HAVE A 69 CHARGER OVER ANY OTHER AUTOMOBILE BESIDES WHO THE HELL NEEDS TO BE THAT ARODYNAMIC WHEN THE SPEED LIMITS ARE ONLY 65 , 55 , AND 45 ON MOST ROADS ANYWAY AND INSURANCE RATES ARE TOO DAM EXPENSIVE AS WELL
Yeah I'm original owner of old dodge muscle cars, and I was all come on 4 doors on the charger, you suck, but I will give it to dodge with the design I'm gonna let this slide the newer Dodge Charger is reality gorgeous,I love the fact that they took the time to redesign the side to give it that look that it used to have and I say to anyone else the bottom line on the doors is without those back doors they would sit in the showroom and not get purchased and if the car doesn't sell guess what they stop building them,no back doors, the wife looks at husband and what about the kids, salesman show us something else...if u think that don't mean nothing I had an opportunity to by a real 1970 AAR cuda a rare 340 six pack car for 1500dollars,but really didn t know what it was excactly.but wait deleted from the build sheet was these items tear drop flat black lightweight racing hood gone, bucket seats and center console floor shifter,AAR CUDA Stripes, mega phone shorten exhaust basically it had a bench seat with a column shifter so the wife could drive the car,and we all are complaining about a couple extra doors....that looked like shit mind u on square ass ugly box why don't u say what u really mean, good thing it had performance......huh? When I had my car collection and was driving my dodge CHALLENGER around as my daily driver it was a 1970 SE b5 blue with black vinyl top 318 with a 3speed trans, every where I went before I park it people were telling me how beautiful it was and I just laughed well they figure out why I had to have 5 or 6....even when I blew the engine in the highway a couple of miles from Richard Petty s home town in faivitville North Carolina at a trucks stop with the engine locked up the first person walking by the nose of my car say that is the most beautiful car I have ever seen....and I said I just blew the motor and the guys say come on and I say u did hear it running did u ....he's said nope,it blue back on the highway and I just coasted all the way to hear....he was shocked....had to tow it 700 miles the rest of the way home lucky my dad is into cars too....he brought down a row bar and got it done I was thankful....I told him I'm not leaving my challenger,I would have let my cuda either, don't worry.thanks I like this stuff I never new I like engineering so much....that what I should been and all this time my dad keeps calling me a rocket scientist and u coulda been one.
Theyre giving the new car too much credit over the Daytona. They had different purposes. Coefficients are not eve close. The new car will never do what the Daytona was entended for.
Uhhh ...they can, they don't, they are, and oh yes it can and did. As much as I love the MOPAR wing cars, the Daytona Charger never won a NASCAR championship...the 4 door Charger did in 2012. The last year Mopar ran NASCRAP. Sorry Skippy
What was this video made for? School dropouts? You really had to explain what lift or drag is? (And you did it wrong by the way). Also, why didn't you tell what was the drag coefficient? There should have been that information, plus front area of all cars.
The New Charger has no style not like 66 to 70 Charger they had the look back then not like the shit they make today with out the computer the car is shit .
I hate to break it to the author but Dodge did NOT dominate the 69 and 70 season, Ford won the 69 title and and then pulled out of racing after 69. Even so, according to nascar records, on superspeedways the tally was Talledega Torina with 14 wins, Mercury cyclone spoiler II with 8......dodge and Plymouth together 14.......
Dodge did win. Simply because the idea of the nose and the wing added to the 69 charger, gave it the win. Only thing ford did: was whine on and on and on about ''aww aww dodge is cheating with those modifications'' Meanwhile Mopar-power continued to dominate. Where you get off with that: found on road dead, first on race day, last at finish line ford crap,I don't know.
David Thayer-Don't know where you're getting your information from...In 69 Bobby Isaacs won 17 races by HIMSELF driving a Dodge....Dave Pearson(driving for Ford) won 11 races...So how could Dodge & Plymouth ONLY win 14 altogether? Chrysler dominated the 70 season by winning 37 of the 48 races
read what I posted.....superspeedways are defined as 1.5 miles or longer, that is where the aero cars were designed to run.......just watched the 1970 firecracker 400.....the talledegas spanked the winged cars pretty bad and yes Chrysler did win a lot in 70 because ford pulled the money after 69
talking the aero cars the total tally was 29 wins for the Talledega, 8 for the mercury cyclone, 8 for the superbird and 6 for the charger daytona.......the charger 500 was actually the most successful aero car from chrylser with 22 wins
I love the myth vs the facts, according to nascar numbers during the 69 and 70 races the Talledega Torino won 22, the merc cylcone won 8, the superbird won 8 and the daytona won 6...........and that is what you call domination???
Hey here is the other anti Mopar wing car asswipe that gets on every wing car forum to tell us all how great the fords were and how the Moar wing cars were slow!!!
@@bultacowally not anti ,mopar at all, I loved the Charger 500, a good friend had a 71 440 6bbl Road Runner, it was a bad ass car........I am just ANTI MYTH AND BS........and since you think I am anti mopar, I can tell you the other MYTH car is the 427 Cobra........most of them didnt even get a 427, they got 428s . Sorry if the FACTS upset you.......YOU can even go to the very PRO MOPAR sites like ALLpar and they will have the SAME exact win numbers I have because those are the facts........
You always like to pretend 1970 wasn't a seperate season than 1969, so you can skew the numbers in Ford's favour. 1970, Chrysler won 12 of the 'aero' races to Ford's 7. It's not how you start, it's how you finish, but you'll take Cale's pole lap as proof the Merc was faster, while not bothering to notice Cale blew up before the half way point. Because you are a Ford fan boy. You'll whine about the Daytona being in NASCAR for 1 season as a "gimmick" while praising the Ford MK IV, which never entered production and only ran 2 races. You're a douche. Have fun with that!
All of you can forget this BS,because this new electronic plastic crap can *NEVER EVER* compete with the real-deal muscle car like the 69 charger,Daytona. Videos like this with this ''comparison'' crap should *never* be made *at all* ,because there is no comparison to be looked at. *Real-deal Detroit steel* for life. #60-70s *Real* Mopar Muscle.
+Vedder Ved This new crap will never be even in the same league, class, and will never be a real car like its predecessor (the real-deal muscle car). Its not even right for them to put the names of legendary muscle cars on this new computerized pieces of plastic crap of today, and have the gall to say this is the successor when it isn't and isn't even close to being that. Its crap just like all the other crap cars of today. Compete,I'm talking about this stupid challenge, trying tests on the real cars(69 charger, and Daytona) versus that crap, that's a no-no because this crap is crap and those two are real cars. I don't care what this video was trying to prove,or the point of it,what I know is that I hate seeing a test done on a real charger to compare or compete with a plastic piece of crap. That's my point.
Ok.. still didn't hear all the details on what the exact differences are that makes one crap and not the other. I own both.. new and old. Both completely different machines.. agreed. Some shit about each that suck.. pros and cons from them both to me anyway.
The 69 can have the drag of a parachute but it's still a better looking car than the rest.
You must be on crack lol. The Daytona looks badassed.
Daniel Cannon 69 charger is the best
yep, and no breaks
I don't care what year. All chargers are badass
Danny Capristo amen m8
Danny Capristo except 83 and 75
But the newer ones are......4 door yikes!
and then head over to pick up the kiddos from school in the family car
Ok so its ok I know English is not your first language. 2nd of all yes the modern Challenger is way much better than a family car Charger- We all know that. 3rd.....it has 4 doors brooooo pffhahahahaha. RIP The Last real Charger was made in 1974.
The new Charger is a family sedan! A Charger is not supposed to be a 4 door family car! That's how I feel about it.....!
STARAXE1A ya so now I would preferred a challenger
The New Current Charger went the same way as the 1971 Dodge Coronet.
it started out as a Cheap, Reliable family car, Became a Muscle car in 1965-1970,
and went back to the 4 Door Family sedan it became in 1971
You are SO RIGHT
Shed Dweller ey bro, I'm literally about to pick up my 2013 rt awd tomorrow I'm so excited, I had the sxt 2008 but I'm excited for the v8
So any tips on it before I pick it up today? What cars can i race and win and what cars will i lose to? That way I know what car to fuck with or not
I have to say dodge really dropped the ball with the way that they designed these new chargers... Totally dissagree. For a man with a family the new Charger is perfect, it's more practical and can still kick ass.
68-70 Chargers: Muscle cars with stick shifts.
2006+ Chargers: Large sport family sedan with automatics.
Those ultra rare rims on that Daytona are ultra cool
What they didn't show reveals more than what they focussed on: Namely, the regular Charger screenshot and not the others. Not wanting to offend FCA, no doubt. But the Hellcat has a drag coefficient of .335, the '69 winged warrior .28, so, no, not even close.
Ummm... i got a great tip to share... but you need to send me all 3 chargers to an undisclosed hidden underground lair
Not if I get em first!
Huehuehue
They Should've used the Charger 500 compaired to the Normal Charger, Because the 500 has a completely differant Grill, and rear window section compaired to the normal Charger.
If we could have got one, we would have! Unfortunately, 500s are even rarer than Daytonas!
Even most car guys dont know about the 69 Charger 500.
The 500 still generated a ton of lift up front, the flat face only helped with drag coefficient, not with actual down force, it was only a few MPH faster than the normal R/T

"the numbers weren't that far apart" Am I the only one that feels ripped off that "the numbers" were not disclosed? What gives?
There was a version of this story in a magazine somewhere, years ago, that showed the numbers and I put those numbers into a spreadsheet.
1969 Charger R/T had 373# lift at the nose, -80# at the rear, at 120 MPH. A lot of former muscle cars that became family sedans simply lost their cool factor, but I think Dodge nailed it with the Charger.
nah its a 4 door- nothing like the old real metal and not plastic cars
Another interesting comparison would be the 1971 Dodge Charger vs these 3 cars. The 1971 Dodge Charger was designed from day 1 in the wind tunnel and they advertised it was as aerodynamic as the 1969 Daytona because of its Coke Bottle shape. The 3rd Generation Charger was very successful in NASCAR.

NASCAR also removed the side glass in 1970 to help reduce speeds (check out the B pillars on those 1971 cars and you'll see that teams would shape them as an extra spoiler).
When you measure drag force rather than Cfd they are the same, the daytona has a better Cfd despite being a bigger car.
0:29 look was outrageous wtf are you talking about
He's not saying it's bad, he saying it's "outrageous" for the time.
Look up the definition.
The Charger's history is quite interesting, going from a regular muscle car to a dedicated race car, to a family sedan
Tired of hearing about the new Chargers being 4 doors. The new Chargers are the best looking Muscle car out today!
Same. There is room for creativity and making it the world's only 4 door muscle car. As long as they make the charger retro looking, then I'm happy.
BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
Wish this was a much longer/in depth comparison.
wonder what the new challengers with the mock up daytona nose and wing are like aerodynamically
American muscle baby
in canada lol
Niamh Baszyl yha but it's about american cars
i know but i find it funny. like when the hell did we get an air tunnel. and why are these cars here and not in my garage :(
lol
mega guy the old Charger are but this new shit the parts are made all around the world. Dodge is not owned by America anymore .
"And a stock 1969 Charger" lmao he says that like he is completely overlooking how its a FUCKING HEMI
It is a HEMI, but they are talking about aerodynamics, not engine power. In that regard, the Charger is stock.
Davy Rando Yes,I understand. It just seems like how even though it is stock, with that powerful of an engine it almost seems like it isn't!
as opposed to the "stock" 700hp hellcat engine lol
The HEMI was an available engine option for the 1969 Charger and Charger Daytona
The HEMI was a factory option... so technically its stock :)
Where can I find a charger like this
I'll give you a hint you don't. they find you
Why were the front tires moving on the dyno?
Anyone know what the name of that song is right in the beginning
so where's the numbers to compare properly? was the new charger better? if so, by how much?
You can find the full numbers on the article page. Cheers!
www.autofocus.ca/news-events/features/the-69-daytona-is-as-slippery-as-a-new-charger-hellcat
joshua abron and it depends on the motor the aerodynamics and the weight
Showing the evolution using a 1969 Charger 500 would have made for a better video about aerodynamics.
what are their drag coefficients?
Reg 69 Charger is around 0.5, the Daytona is 0.28, and the HC is about 0.35, for context, a Prius is 0.25
Wouldn't mind either of the first two
Can anyone tell me if that 1969 Dodge charger RT Hemi is the real deal and not a clone?
The vs implies a race, that would have been cool
Growning up I own more dodge challenger s and Barracuda than any one you ever met when I started driving, and the one thing about my E bodied cars and other dodge cars the front of the car starts off smaller and as the shape moves to the rear it slowly gets larger and then small again I can tell u from driving experience the fast that they go the more stable and glue to the road they are,and when your going NASCAR kinda speed and you are just barely holding the wheel it inspires u to go faster because you believe in your car it ain't scared and u ain't scare, before 1970 most dodge cars were what we call a flying brick, not very aerodynamic but great motors and there transmissions were a step ahead too,I went to go look at a 1974 360 cuda 4 speed car that a mechanic friend own he said I got a cuda come over and see it one day,and when I did he said come on get in drive it around a little 4 speed manual trans car owner say shift it but don't step on the clutch, hah hah ,what I look and he says go ahead do it,so I did littlevbonk and it goes right into gear,I'm like what the heck,...he say I just put rebuilt the trans all new brass nice car 5000 grand and it could have been mine didn t have it had four other ones thou...very interesting lets see what this is all about.
did you guys see that 230 mhp guage on the 2015 one
230? It says 340kph which translates to about 212mph. If you mean the speedo, that is...
are you blind it said 230
You can only see the speedo at around 4:14 and it is indicating about 200kph with maximum number being 340kph. It doesn't show mph at all.
ok ok
"The charger hellcat doesn't need the nose cone, or huge wing to achieve the same speed as they did in 1969". Very true. It also doesn't need the look, stance, or presence as the Daytona either.
no but it has 220 more horse power than a daytona
Bobba68 Dont worry. They dont know what the hell they are talking about. "The Hellcat doesn't need the nose cone or wing to go the same speed as they did in 69"? Well its funny how the Daytona dosent need a supercharger or fuel injection or electronic computer controlled ignition or lightweight alloy and plastic parts to do the same speed as the hellcat
Yes and why does it have 220 more HP? Because among other things its being force fed air Whereas the Daytona breathes naturally
So well put and in that old geezer grey that a lot of cars come with today
it doesnt. 69/Daytona are still better head turners than any modern charger. why? because they are RARE. you can get immaculate hellcat almost any day, but Daytona or charger 500? not even close.
Why didn't y'all use the Daytona 392? That sucked
I love the look of the daytona over the stock, dont get me wrong the stock is a damn good looking car, but I prefer the daytona, and would appreciate it if people saw the same even if they dont prefer the look, at least it's a wing and not some dumb teenage aluminum spoiler
A bit of cheating with the Daytona test as the windshield wipers were removed.
I will say this about my E body's when I look back at redesigning the car for aerodynamics sake the first thing my italian side of me realize s is the glass angles are to steep and need to smoother a laid back more, once I learned that they slicked the back window in the real Daytona s that how u tell a fake right away...if u know.
HEY ITS PROFESSOR MOPAR showing the world his ignorance once again!!!!
Should've named the "Charger" Coronet as it was 2 door and 4 door...
Mopar Route 66 got a point.
Mopar Route 66 all 80s Dodge coupes are disgraces. They are just rebadged Mitsubishis.
Mr science is here to save us all!!!!
So,more generality...so what did we really learn?....IS the iconic Daytona more aerodynamic than the modern car?...guess we wont find out here..
BUT WHERES THE IMPORT
Yet modern chargers have no 200 mph speed breaking records.🤔🍻
UHHH yeah they do...STOCK Hellcat Charger with race tires and roll cage averaged 202 MPH at Talledega. 207 on the straights. DUUUHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Modern day Charger Hellcats can reach 217 MPH if the speed limiter and race tires, or 205 MPH if limiter is on.
You do a huge test in a wind tunnel and don't show us the results ( I mean numbers) ? And just say things we already know : / .
Howdy! The numbers and full story are here:

Enjoy!
The WHOLE FAMILY😦😍😦
I like how classic cars go with new cars it's just dope😁👍 like if u agree
Nothing beats the 1969 hemi aint got speed unless got wing
The Daytona still has a lower drag coefficient than most of todays cars.
Lower than a McLaren F1. WITH the massive wing on, mind you
Damn kilometers. Now I gotta do math.
We need a coupe charger
Then lets put the hellcat motor in the daytona and...boom, instant restomod racecar!
Boom instantly slower because the Daytona hits 200 stock
@@Leatherface123. Hellcat Motor makes by far more torque and power. Hellcat is actually faster than the daytona I'm pretty sure.
Is this a real Daytona? What's with that weird paint job?
The car is explained better on the article page here, but it's what they call a "Day Two" car: an authentic Daytona modified with that paint job not long after it was bought new (for example, on "day two" of ownership). "Discotona" is an unrestored survivor example of a period custom Daytona, making it exceedingly rare and valuable, even if the paint job isn't everyone's favourite.

A wise old man said it’s just an empty cup
That good that is on the hellcat charger is the hood that was deleted from the AAR CUDA I was talking about I could understand the stripes being a bit much for mom a pop public, being a car painter maintenance of the flat back is a pain in the buttocks Mr president.someone always itching to mess that shit up,but I do love the look, sorry, wait could u give one car with it and one car with out it,sorry I bleed mopars....
yeah we are all sorry here too
The Hellcat has a supercharger on it... The 69 Daytona would smoke it badly if it had a supercharger on it.
BigRob829 engine swamp it
Whoever design the new charger weren't that good in designing this newer charger Dang charger looks like a Chevy and a 4 door charger to me the new charger is a terribly designed I could of done a better job in the designing of the new charger .. First of there is no way I would make a 4 door charger that's just crazy to me the new charger looks like the Malibu Chevy lol so fuuny
It's a Chrysler 300, renamed 'Charger' to get middle aged men to buy it
When I started road racing motorcycle I really started being a student of aerodynamic, because u was going 150mph on a race track and u draft everything u can for an advantage, that's when I learned that the air coming off the back of the vehicle the drag facter is probably the most important part of a cars aero design...that's the reason the back of every car on the road today all looks the same, pretty boring,it for gas mileage, but still boring...see you all thanks good stuff, hey what about those NASA guys I said Chrysler must have had working for them,no,honestly all you would have to do is look at an FA 18,OR 16 or The space shuttle and u would see dodge aero influences, the 1971 Road Runner one of my favorite car designs is a small version automotive version of the space shuttle ironically the sister car is named the Satellite I did not that one coming...yeah I did but it took a few years coz I could take my eyes off my challengers and my Cudas...please don't tell anyone I think the 71 Road Runner is the coolest looking body design ever, and that coming from someone who collects E body's only, sorry when it comes to driving fast aero and size frontle area count and plain just bad ass looks Road Runner 1971...has it hands down....
Fuck four door chargers I want a 68 charger
Now, why the hell did you put Richard Petty's Superbird up there, that makes no sense its not a Daytona.
Well, Take an actual NASCAR winged car and test it. Production cars just had to fit the silhouette.
That was the daytona
I'D STILL RATHER HAVE A 69 CHARGER OVER ANY OTHER AUTOMOBILE BESIDES WHO THE HELL NEEDS TO BE THAT ARODYNAMIC WHEN THE SPEED LIMITS ARE ONLY 65 , 55 , AND 45 ON MOST ROADS ANYWAY AND INSURANCE RATES ARE TOO DAM EXPENSIVE AS WELL
THANK YOU DODGE FOR GOING BACK IN THE DESIGN OF THE NEW CHARGER THIS ONE LOOKS TERRIBLE
They missed the biggest difference, YOU COULD ACTUALLY WORK ON THE 69.
the Daytona looks way better than the stock charger but sadly there were only 560 charger Daytona made and there are only 383 left
slobodians back 503 Daytona's, not 560
My old '70 Camaro wanted to lift off the road at 100+ mph, the nose acted like a parachute. A lousy car for high speeds.
sexiest car in the world
Yeah I'm original owner of old dodge muscle cars, and I was all come on 4 doors on the charger, you suck, but I will give it to dodge with the design I'm gonna let this slide the newer Dodge Charger is reality gorgeous,I love the fact that they took the time to redesign the side to give it that look that it used to have and I say to anyone else the bottom line on the doors is without those back doors they would sit in the showroom and not get purchased and if the car doesn't sell guess what they stop building them,no back doors, the wife looks at husband and what about the kids, salesman show us something else...if u think that don't mean nothing I had an opportunity to by a real 1970 AAR cuda a rare 340 six pack car for 1500dollars,but really didn t know what it was excactly.but wait deleted from the build sheet was these items tear drop flat black lightweight racing hood gone, bucket seats and center console floor shifter,AAR CUDA Stripes, mega phone shorten exhaust basically it had a bench seat with a column shifter so the wife could drive the car,and we all are complaining about a couple extra doors....that looked like shit mind u on square ass ugly box why don't u say what u really mean, good thing it had performance......huh?
Sorry Skippy
theres my car dont touch it.
What was this video made for? School dropouts? You really had to explain what lift or drag is? (And you did it wrong by the way).
Also, why didn't you tell what was the drag coefficient? There should have been that information, plus front area of all cars.
The New Charger has no style not like 66 to 70 Charger they had the look back then not like the shit they make today with out the computer the car is shit .
lets be honest we all no the daytona would win
68bobba2 Right. Mopar or NO car. Period.
read what I posted.....superspeedways are defined as 1.5 miles or longer, that is where the aero cars were designed to run.......just watched the 1970 firecracker 400.....the talledegas spanked the winged cars pretty bad and yes Chrysler did win a lot in 70 because ford pulled the money after 69
talking the aero cars the total tally was 29 wins for the Talledega, 8 for the mercury cyclone, 8 for the superbird and 6 for the charger daytona.......the charger 500 was actually the most successful aero car from chrylser with 22 wins
The daytona actually came out in second place behind the Talladega in the 70 season... just saying 👀
"just lying" is more like it since Chrysler dominated 1970 aero tracks with 12 wins to Ford's 7. Typical fan boy BS.
@@Ziggy_Moonglow Lets not forget the 55 Total wins by talledegas alone- while no winged mopar ever breached 14 wins between both the 1969-70 seasons.
I assumed it was a drag race.. fuckers...
my wish - to own a 69 charger or the the daytona, which ever comes first, and make everyone turn their heads.
Lmao all you "car enthusiast" love to be on some shit... Yes muscle cars back then we're Raw asf but it's 2017 man shit changes
The four door Charger is the Best sports Sedan!!!!!!
@@davidthayer6969 you and that Kelly Nicole Brook dumbass should get married.
@@bultacowally Can you explain why me just posting factual nascar records makes you upset?????
Really? No numbers? Wow, pointless video is pointless.
Dodge charger killed Ford and Chevy's ran away
modern charger sucks ass
+Josh Briggs sure they do.
Jon Sosa this video perfectly shows how bad the Charger looks compared to its predasesor
Josh Briggs
'Predecessor'
Jon Sosa this is the fucking internet dude no one gives a shit about grammar or spelling
+Josh Briggs Words of wisdom.
smh
All of you can forget this BS,because this new electronic plastic crap can *NEVER EVER* compete with the real-deal muscle car like the 69 charger,Daytona. Videos like this with this ''comparison'' crap should *never* be made *at all* ,because there is no comparison to be looked at. *Real-deal Detroit steel* for life.
#60-70s *Real* Mopar Muscle.
+71 Plymouth. Explain 'compete'
+Vedder Ved What year antique charger do you have?
I don't have an old Charger.. wish I had a 68 though. I have a 67 Chevelle and I have a 16 Scat Pack Charger.
No I wanted to see an actual race! Not this simulation bullshit
That Daytona is ruined!!!!
