I used to think that about flowers. Then one year.... I went nuts. Now... I have the prettiest show every year on my road. It makes me happy every single time I look outside. Grow flowers!!
Today I was having a really bad day, and decided to click on a random R&R video. Jess is such a kind sweets soul, watching this made my mood so much better. I swear these videos help with anxiety so much. Thank you Jess. ❤️
You did well to narrow it down like that. I’ve literally spend 3 hours today narrowing down what varieties I wanna grow this year to my top 100. My brain might be aware I can’t grow all the things, but my heart is like “yayyyy, let’s grow it all, we can do this, I believe in You!!!” 😂🌱
Yes, it is a true, and ancient, philosophy. However, today's society has gotten so insane, robbing, stealing, drug abuse, violence of all kinds, etc, that it would turn out to be more like....give a man a fish, he will eat it, see how tasty you cooked the fish, then proceed to beat you half to death and steal the rest of your fish, leaving you to wake up sore and hungry. Haha, well, sort of.
Would like to buy seeds, please send link, would like to buy catalog my name is Mark Habibe I am from Chile South America , my Mail gringointrrnacional632@gmail.com
@@caseyfletcher3720 Well said. God is love and compassion. It’s weird how the more I try to understand others and their perspective, the more I understand and love myself and vice versa. On the other hand the more hate I feel towards others the more I feel like I’m taking poison and expecting the other person to drop dead. We truly do sow what we reap. 😏
What a fantastic place! So much potential life waiting to be planted...so much food to be grown and people fed by those seeds...kinda neat to think about!
This is the 3rd of January 2020. I received my Baker Creek catalog a week or so ago. I'm so excited for spring to get here I can't hardly stand it. My orders in the mail, now just waiting for my seeds. I got my ball Complete Book of Home preserving in the mail today. Can't wait to teach my grandson how to can. With that done, I won't have to worry about whether they have something to eat or not. wishing you all a good winter and spring, along with a new wonderful year.
I am just like you and love to sit with the seed catalogs and make the lists out of what is desired to be grown the next year. Only there is one drawback for me is usually don't have the funds to pay for them. So each year it is fairly bittersweet watching everyone talk about all their new seeds and well just scrounge to get a few each year to grow. Have a blessed upcoming gardening season.
I am looking at my catalog from Bakers Creek also. One day I wish I will be blessed enough to go there in person. Thank you for taking us with you.God will one day give me the homestead I dream about. He blesses us and we are already so blessed with what he has given us. I need more land ( not enough in the city for what I need) a home which is one floor, I am so grateful for the people he has brought into my life. The homesteading community makes me know i am not a freak for cooking everything from scratch, growing as many vegetables as I can in the small place, and not giving up on my dream to live where I can have chickens, more room to grow more food and who knows what other things God will bring into my life. God's blessing to you and yours
These seeds are great high quality I love their tomato and watermelon selection. They are branching out into herbal medicinal plants which is great. I can't say enough about this place great seed.
Hey Jess, you have made me love Bakers Creek! Just ordered my seeds today. Can't wait to get them. Ordered my catalog as well 😁 I love your videos. I'm also a homeschool mom. The garden is a class/lesson in itself. I would love to hear how you cook these rarities (especially purple beans-do you eat the whole thing or just the beans inside?)That's what attracted me to baker's. The rare seeds are so awesome! Who knew there were purple and green sunflowers? I'm so excited 😁
You get chemistry (organic and inorganic), math, geometry, geology, geography, biology. And if you're creative, art, wood and metal working, etc.etc.etc.
Oh man Iam just watch this over and over again, dreaming about baker creek seeds shop 😍😍 🥰🥰, your so blessed to have shops like baker creek in USA over here in Australia we don’t 😩 but I can enjoy watching your walk through baker creek.
My peppers were planted in the Spring and it got soooo hot here, (Fl) soooooo fast they just grew leaves. My bell peppers are like a small tree growing great now. The poblano peppers only grew leaves as well but now that the temps are in the 60°-70° range the peppers are really coming out now. I am so excited cause everything in my garden pretty much died so fast but the peppers hung on til now.🥰❤🙏🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶
My grandpa grew Jackson wonder since before I was born. It is a staple in my garden. Very prolific and if you get tired of picking just let the plants mature and the pods will dry on the plant. Just throw the dried beans in a mason jar and you have butter beans all winter with no processing.
Literally watching this video right after I placed my order with Baker Creek! I bought several varieties you mentioned (gonna try the Kajari melon and Ping Tung eggplant). Also several flowers for me and the bees to enjoy. Thanks for the tour!
Jess, thank you so much for the Baker Creek tour and for sharing some of your favorites. I can’t wait to get my seed ordered and plan the garden layout. We will be doubling our garden size this year. Thank you for sharing you teaching gift, it has helped me grow to love gardening. 🙏🏻 Blessings 🎄
omg this video is soooo exciting i got my first Baker Creek catalog in the mail a few days ago and went crazy. i also received my High Mowing catalog so i ordered seeds from both. even though i had already ordered from my Seed Savers Exchange catalog. yes you are right about curling up on the couch with catalogs and a " hot toddy" i see a lot of seeds that are not in the catalog .
I have been buying from them for the last 4 years. So happy that they started selling bitter Mellon, long beans and verities of Eggplants. Plus they have the best looking Seed catalogue in my opinion.
Yep Creole tomatoes here in Louisiana is always the sought after tomatoes. They are the best for everything!!! Thanks for all the information. Making an order soon..❤
I'm with you on the radishes, I love them especially the French Breakfast. Lots of people do not know you can cook them and add them to stir-fry. I also eat the tops of most of the ones I grow.
Thank you! I live in an apartment where I can only plant in pots and any guidance you give helps. Especially when I go on seed catalogs and everything looks so good! It's sad to see that not everything grows well in a pot. Especially as I'm a new gardener (embarking on my second garden this year) who can't yet "work magic". But the enthusiasm you have for your garden is catching and is a big reason why I'm trying. Again: Thank You!!
Gardening is new to me. I have been looking over their catalog for a couple of weeks and haven't quite narrowed down what I would like to try. This video is going to be a great help! Thank you for explaining some of the differences.
I always STRUGGLE to start eggplant from seed and keep them alive. I would love it if you could do a deep dive for us. Tips and tricks, best practices etc. because those guys don't love me!
Well good news is we got our seed book. Bad news is i signed it up in her name and she looked through it and now wants me to grow all types of flowers!! Also on top of that she was looking through telling me i need to grow this n that!! LOL!! We don't have a place to start the tomato plants so i told her that's out of the question. I tried to grow some outsidefor a late harvest but that didn't work so much. For tomatoes and peppers we'll support ourguy at the farmers market!! Thanks for these vidjas Jess!! *Have a good'nnn*
Not sure how I missed this one last month, but it was very nice to see. Our first purchase from Baker Creek is due to arrive sometime today, or early tomorrow. Nicole and I are ecstatic. Thank you for sharing.
😍😍 What a great video. I love hearing you talk about your choice varieties. I grew habanada peppers last year and the flavor was so special, so floral. Like you my plant didn't thrive, but I did get about six or seven peppers from it, so I can't wait to grow it again next year. You are so inspiring! Thank you!
I just ordered my first seed catalog from Baker Creek and also requested free catalog after watching your tour through the seed storage/order picking warehouse. I'm so excited to get gardening. Thanks Jess from Northwoods of Wisconsin
I'm in zone 8b in Germany and I order from Baker Creek every year since they have varieties I can't get here (especially beans, squashes and corn). I'm happy to see you mention the Blue Lake bean since I ordered that from Baker Creek, also the Dragon Tongue (yes, they grow a bit; I grow them in the bed with my corn and let them climb up the stalks. I don't know if the pods are stringy since I let them mature to harvest those delicious beans inside). Brussels sprouts are wonderful to grow, I'd really recommend them if you haven't grown them! They're one of those vegetables you can have in the garden over winter and still have fresh food.
I like to ask people what it is they want that they cannot buy or is too expensive. That was how I started growing things, Figs was one of my first fruit trees, back then you could not get fresh figs in the store at all.
I have started Asparagus from seed for that reason! Artichokes are coming up next. And if you think about it, lettuce is pretty expensive for what it is, and for how easy it is to grow it in season! Also, whatever your favorite veggies are, chances are there are varieties you have never tried because supermarkets don't do it like that.
@@VagabondAnne I did my asparagus from seed too! Artichokes I have not done yet though I have seeds. I find the varieties in stores are only there because of a long shelf life, they do not taste near as good as other varieties.
I got my first big order and then this week order 3 more smaller orders. I’m so excited for planting!! I found your seed organizer plastic case and ordered a couple to get better organized. Can’t wait!!
Jan 18, 2022 God bless you jess , I placed a big order after buying the Whole Catalog from sams cheaper then tag , . Its so nice to see everything me & my husband will be growing . Mrs Josette Tharp Montgomery County , Texas 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
My..My, here i am in Fredericksburg Virginia pulling out my seed catalogs and seed packets. so inspired and ready to start planting but we haven't even had our first snow full...lol cant wait until Spring. Thank you Jess for this motivating video.
I grew the Habanada peppers last summer and I LOVED them! I loved how tropical the taste was - I'm not into super spicy peppers, when I try them I can tell that there's so much flavor hiding behind all the heat, but I can't taste it because my mouth is on fire, so it was wonderful to be able to appreciate the flavor without the heat! it was my favorite pepper this year!
Loved this video so much! I am obsessed with Baker Creek Seeds and really enjoyed seeing it from the inside. I ordered my first seeds from Baker Creek last year and instantly became hooked. Got my first catalog this year, I've looked through it at least 100 times. I just recently found your channel and I have already learned so much. Thanks for all of the information that you share!
I grew the Beni Kodama watermelon on a trellis next to the Kajari melon and both were super growers for me. If you want a very sweet, small watermelon, look into growing the Beni Kodama.
Thank you. Loved your journal list video from a few years ago and bought from that this year. Now I need to order more :-) I love to grow banana squash and Butternut winter squash. So forgiving. Squash bugs are the bane of every garden. This year I'm trying Butterneck squash from MIGardner. Can't wait.
Have you thought about writing a book? Or a series? You have so much information and have a great way of teaching... I would definitely want that book 😁
Jess you ought to try the new Cosmic Crisp apple before this year's batch is all gone...the hype is true! Great taste and no browning! Supposedly a 6 month-1 year storage life in refrig.
Concur on how to teach. Providing foundation is the best start. Letting others use their tools with that foundation helps creativity. I said blue lake before I heard you. 😆I finally got my bs to grow. Buckwheat was an awesome ground cover the sprouted on top of my clay. Greens for the wildlife as well as bringing in nitrogen into my clay.
This is so helpful to plan my garden next year :) This year I'm focused on tomatoes and kale because I've just built my 3 beds. One bed is perennial dwarf bushes (2 haskaps, sugarpie raspberry, grape vine and strawberries inbetween), the second is my annual veg, and the third will be a mix of perennial and annual flowers I grew from seed :) May add a 4th veggie bed next year if I really get into diverse stuff!!
I'm trying Brussels Sprouts this fall, two varieties from Baker Creek (one is Red Rubine, the other is a regular green one). After watching the YT Channel "Steve's Seaside Allotment", I realized that Brussels Sprouts are one of those plants that just keep on producing over time. Unlike a cabbage, you can harvest all season long, and apparently the tops (leafy bunches) are one of the most delicious of brassicas. I only have seedlings so far, so I don't speak from experience. He also loves "Kalettes" which are a cross between brussels sprouts and kale, where there are little kale bunches growing up the side of the stalks instead of mini cabbage sprouts. I have started some of those as well, but they are a hybrid, not an heirloom, and I got them through Territorial Seed Company (pricy!).
Love love love seeds also We could talk for hours. Fortunately and unfortunately I live in Florida. The fortunate part is I have a year round growing season and the unfortunate part is I have fusaruim wilt in my yard, which means I can't grow anything viney. No peas, cucumbers, squash....etc. so I try to focus on what I can grow. Beets (which I love), carrots, onions, etc. But I'm with you on seeds. Oh and I love flowers. Particularly zinnas, sunflowers, marigolds, native plants/shrubs. Yeah....we could talk for hours.
Another way to use radishes is to make "chips". Slice the radishes really thin on a mandolin, season the slices (or drag them through Ranch dressing) and then either bake or dehydrate (I've done both). Best wishes from Kate in Olympia, WA
@@TalkingThreadsMedia thanks for the info. I loved radishes as a kid because when we went out to eat (rarely) we were served radishes as an appetizer along with crackers and butter and salt. Dad always raced me to see who could eat the most. We would take a small bite, dip in salt, then take another bite till gone. I never knew or ever saw anyone prepare them or serve them except in salads and I've watched way too much YT cooking shows. Assumed raw was only way and couldn't figure out why so many gardeners grew so many radishes. I finally commented on YT Black Gumbo and he answered with roasting them. So now I'm growing some to try. Just wasn't sure how they were roasted, flavored, etc. I saw one show years ago that said they were good on bread with butter which was a popular kids treat after school in France. Tried it but wasn't popular with me. I also saw no reason to eat them as they didn't seem particularly nutritious but Black Gumbo said they were. I will certainly try the chips - my dehydrator is being delivered next week. Thanks again.
You are welcome! BTW, I entered Radish chips in our little county Fair a few years ago and received a blue ribbon. The Judge didn't expect to like radish chips, but was pleasantly surprised -- especially since the "heat" was gone and the flavor was sweeter. Haven't been able to enter again because the chips never last that long! Enjoy! Best wishes from Kate
Oh...and congratulations on getting a dehydrator!!! You will LOVE it! Dehydrated peppers to put in scrambled eggs or soups, fruit leather, jerky, "chips" -- you name it. Dehydrated watermelon comes out tasting like candy!
I am fairly knew to your channel. This was a great video. I appreciate the info for new gardeners as I am one. 😊 Do you have videos on how and what you juice? I have a juicer I am not using. I am on a journey of improving my health. Also, I have never roasted radishes. Do you have a video on that or tips on temp and seasoning? Thank you!
The trinidad scorpion was great! Grew them in raised beds, zone 5a this year and got roughly 40 pods per plant. Spice level is excellent for hot sauces and salsa, but eating it straight should be reserved for pranks!
Oh! There are so many things that I would love to grow that just don't work up here in Vermont. Eggplant, okra and melons are at the top of that list! One good thing about being in zone 4 is that we can do peas all summer. I had no luck with the king of the north pepper but I plan to try again. Maybe I started them too late. 🤷
11:45 same with me. I like to grow what you don't typically find at the farmers market, because their produce will come in the same time as mine and be cheap. I want to have a rare find to try.
Like a kid in the Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory! Yep! That's how'd I be too!!! Btw...I kept looking at you today thinking who does she remind me of?!?! At about the 22 min mark it finally hit me - Vanellope from Wreck it Ralph!😂 Its the hair style! Which is super cute on you by the way, so I hope I didnt just make you self conscious!!!!
Jess, I also live in zone 7a,,, and this year I grew the CUSHAW winter squash,,, but cut it when it was little. It is one of my fav tasting squashes for our growing zone..... The squash bug left this one alone !
It was so reassuring to see that some of the varieties that I have to buy because that's what I've got as a limited choice where I've gone to buy my plants are actually some of the ones that you say are your favorite! And yes having a very small tiny patio with extreme midday heat blaring down between two apartment buildings can be quite a challenge and yet I've already started to harvest my Japanese eggplant and have so many more to come. Some of my tomatoes have finally started to produce fruit and is so exciting. And I've so wanted to try different things but unfortunately I'm running out of pot space and until I can build my burlap sack Sun covering I'm being very careful about moving things out of the direct sun into the small shade I have. And as we are reaching into the hundreds and moving upwards of 110 now in Las Vegas I can't believe I'm actually able to save and produce well I'm not doing it I'm helping it happen, fruit that I and my family can enjoy. You are a joy and a pleasure to be involved in your life and always encouraging to continue on with my passion. Thank you I just wish you could see my conglomeration in my tiny patio!
I love hearing you say french plant names, here's my input on simplifying french names. Merveilles de Quatre Saisons could be pronounced like Meh-r-vey de katt-re seyzon, and Cour Di Bue I believe would be Coeur de Boeuf which could be said Keur de buuf. :)
I used to think that about flowers. Then one year.... I went nuts. Now... I have the prettiest show every year on my road. It makes me happy every single time I look outside. Grow flowers!!

Those yellow beets are so sweet and taste good peeled and grated raw in salad or cooked as a sweet hashbrown.
I had to smile when you said that the radish is a good morale boost for the gardener. It's true!

I got my first big order and then this week order 3 more smaller orders. I’m so excited for planting!! I found your seed organizer plastic case and ordered a couple to get better organized. Can’t wait!!

This is my first year growing seeds from this company. Can’t wait to see results.
I am itching to get sprouting. This video made me all giddy! 💜
Thank you so much for sharing so much information. I do only have a small garden and this was so helpful😊
Well thanks; that was helpful. Maybe Gere could do a: " Jess's selection". . Are these plants one can save seed from?
I grew the Beni Kodama watermelon on a trellis next to the Kajari melon and both were super growers for me. If you want a very sweet, small watermelon, look into growing the Beni Kodama.
LOVED this video......this gave me lots more ideas on what I want to incorporate into my garden

Hey all! Thank you Jess for this awesome video. Is anyone else here from Massachusetts? Curious as to what you all are growing? ZONE 6B here!
OMG that is like a candy store 😍!!!
Our "Seed" Candy Store.
@@genevapriest6190 yep I pray to be able to shop their catalog in a year or 2!!!
I would freeze and meltdown..... Even the catalog is gloriously overwhelming... To stand there in real life?!?!?!?😳😳😳😂🤣😂
Concur on how to teach.
Thanks for doing this video! Loved it 😍
I love baker creek! And I NEED to go there😃 Thanks for showing us some of your faves!
PLEASE - More Tomatoes. And PLEASE do some taste test videos this summer. Tomato taste test videos get TONS of hits.
Love love love seeds also
We could talk for hours.
Very helpful, especially when you describe how you use the veg. How do you roast the radishes?
Yes I would like to know this too! Perhaps a vid idea come radish season?!?!
Dehydrated watermelon comes out tasting like candy!
great jess. thanks for the tour, quite a treat
“I’ve yet to meet a radish I didn’t like” that needs to go on a shirt
I am fairly knew to your channel. This was a great video. I appreciate the info for new gardeners as I am one. 😊 Do you have videos on how and what you juice? I have a juicer I am not using. I am on a journey of improving my health. Also, I have never roasted radishes. Do you have a video on that or tips on temp and seasoning? Thank you!
The trinidad scorpion was great! Grew them in raised beds, zone 5a this year and got roughly 40 pods per plant. Spice level is excellent for hot sauces and salsa, but eating it straight should be reserved for pranks!
Such a fun store. Hello from the UK.
Ok well $45 later...im so excited!!!
I found Kajari mellon even here, in Czech Republic, central Europe, thit year, so one whole trellace is dedicated to it :)
Thank you Jess
Wow, what an awesome place, but I think I would break the bank, but it would be fun.
Great information
Ps that person coughing in the background startled me lol 🤣 😷
So much fun, I wrote them all down!!
Post the list please??????😊
