My preschool class is studying how things are grown. Today we watched this video. They LOVED it! Especially when the rooster crowed. We will definitely be watching more in the future! Thanks for providing lots of learning for all ages. Love and great weather from South Carolina and Ms. Tori’s First Steps 4K class!!!
We are truly blessed to have you as well. I live in the inner city and much rather spend my mornings with you homesteading, it gets my day off to a much better start 🙂
I’ve ordered seeds and seen a few pictures of the Baker creek seed store but never have seen it in its entirety. It was so wonderful😱 I just want to thank you for sharing that with me you all made my day🙋 best 30th birthday present ever ♥️
Hey Kevin and Sarah, glad to see you to putting in a fall garden this year. I hope to finish clearing the old neglected East garden plot here on the old Home Place today. I got all the Chinese privet and Hack Berry trees cut back to just their trunks now. Today I will take down the trunks , cut it up and move it all to the burn pile. Then comes the really fun work, digging out the stumps, chopping them out with an axe and a hatchet. If I get that far today, I will bring in my new rear tine tiller and get the ground torn up. I will still have to get out all the roots from all the native species that were growing in it over the past 10 years. With some luck, I will have it ready to plant out early next week. I have my transplants started in pots, they are coming up now. So time to grab my old gloves and head back out, Thanks for the video. Till next time you'all take care, be safe and God Bless You and Yours. Mr. Tom
Yall are so blessed to be near a place that raises seeds. Where we live its just different people are only interested in the modern life. We are still a ways off on planting for fall.
Sarah, Go to Bumbie bee junction & see their raised beds (Outstanding) no bending over to start & much better harvesting. You folks could save yourself a lot of work. You should see how they prep their soil in the spring for their main gardens!
You guys are my favorite RUclips go to video for homestead content!!! Right there with you on most things you are doing! I still work so you do a way better job! Don’t stop! Love the content!
Exciting to look forward to the fall crops!! We are finishing up summer produce from the trees and bushes mostly, but it has gone well. Luckily not all of the orchard produces every year. Soon we, too, start planting for the fall!!
Thank you Sarah and Samantha for taking me along with you to Baker Creek wow it is just beautiful. We just started buying seeds from them this year. Good job in your raised beds. We are blessed to have y'all showing us what you do on your homestead. Thank you
Both of my sons were in marching band. I know exactly what you mean. But worth every moment. Love your videos. The bakercreek grounds..looked so peaceful while you were there. Would love to go there
I like Baker Creek too. The little photos they send along with my order are funny. One was big bearded dude in the back of an old pick up truck wearing daisy dukes. They seem like good people.
i am twenty five years older than you sara, and it makes me soooo happy to see you sharing all you do with the families of the world. I, to, still use my old tiller, almost older than me, lol,,,we are in north mo. and we are praying that we get this rain that is suppose to be coming, two days of it, the farmers have lost their corn, and many selling their cattle. Your raised bed are now looking amazing, and i hope that you get a giant head on each of your plants.
Oh man! I did not expect the time I needed to process all that is harvested! The tomatoes just keep coming! And the cucumbers! And yes I'm complaining but with a big smile on my face. I'm trying hard to get the fall planting area set but the sun sets when the sun sets! I also work a full time job. Still... I love it. I love my backyard garden and the great results. Thank u for the baker creek trip. I order a lot of their seeds.
Thanks so much for giving us a tour of Baker Creek! Especially for those of us that are too far away to just stop in. So many times I wonder if there are places like Baker Creek that keep things so traditional. It's nice to know not only where your food comes from but also where those seeds come from. Even though I can order out of a catalog, I know that it's coming from a farm. Thanks again!
Instead of doing away with the raised beds later, I would densely plant perennial herbs and flowers there and make it easy on yourself. Pollinators are good for the garden!!!
Perhaps next year, if this late planting works out, you can tarp the beds so they stay clean/sprout out the weed seeds so they die off then when you’re ready in the late summer you can plant at will?
We are blessed by your presence and by your videos I can bless you by prayers and watching your videos with all the advertisements to thank you for sharing and God bless you
When I lived in Missouri I had huge wonderful herb beds...…..tarragon, chives, Greek oregano, sage, thyme, lemon balm, yarrow, chamomile, mint, garlic chives. All I had to do was just cut constantly and dry them, they were a joy to look after. I also had permanent beds of asparagus, rhubarb and horseradish......they were all perennial and very little work to upkeep.
Wondering how your fall plants are doing. My beans are doing well. Planted another small batch of spinach and some carrots 6 days ago. The cool weather has helped! They are up! So excited to see what happens! Have a blessed day.
We have 14 raised beds. We built them our first year on our homestead. We have weed barrier and gravel under and around them. I'll email you pictures. We cleared a large garden plot that we will start using next year. So glad to see that y'all get behind on weeding too. My front walk and flower beds suffer during garden time.
~~~ I enjoyed this video and also I see a lot of my friends on your channel. I am Dave here in the northern mountains of lovely GEORGIA .~~~GOD''S JOY my friends. ~~~
Good work guys! As soon as you can, get those beds covered with remay or some kind of screen/fabric or the cabbage moths with lay their eggs all over your broccoli and cauliflower and the caterpillars will eat them. I have a whole bunch of brussels sprouts that have basically become chicken food this year because I didn't cover them.
THANKS FOR SHARING THE FUN TRIP TO BAKER CREEK, THE RAISE BEDS WITH THE BROCCOLI AND COLLIE FLOWER LOOK GREAT. THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT AND BLESSED DAY :-)
Always like to see a fall garden going in. I too am planting garlic, lettuce, beets and turnips. Just pulled the last of the failed squash out so now I can start, that will motivate me to do more. Take care, much love and peace to you and yours. Blessings ♡
How about a worm bed in the old raised bed area? All your garden waste can be dumped in the beds as feed for the worms. And you have a cash crop that doesn't really need much attention---time saver.
I would have thought the tomatoes on my balcony would be done by now so I could plant spring onions for my husband (he loves them) but after we harvested the majority they just started to bloom again, as well as the small tomatoes that have been dormant for weeks have also started to grow! 😂 never had luck with cruciferous vegetables apart from feeding caterpillars. Oh well, if they‘re not feeding us, they might feed those. 😊
Our fall planting looks like it's not going to happen this year. Our plans were put on hold since the passing of ny younger sister. I hope you broccoli and cauliflower come out beautifully.
Our whole garden, except for our container garden, is about the size of your 2 raised beds. It’s all I can do to get the stuff from them processed. Next year we’re gonna be planting in soil that’s new to us. We discovered that, while you CAN grow peppers and tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets, the plants don’t thrive or produce nearly as many fruits and they’re tiny. For cherry tomatoes and the tiny yellow pear tomatoes it’s not a problem. But our Roma tomatoes were scarcely bigger than the cherry tomatoes. Some things do well in containers but we’re thinking that good old, well amended dirt in the ground is gonna be a much better producer. Live and learn. We tried stock watering tanks and they did okay with some things but, much like 5 gallon buckets, in the New Mexico heat, things dry out very easily. There’s just not enough water holding capacity in them for some plants. Swiss chard, dill, chives, numerous herbs did well in them and we’ll still use them for that. But good old dirt, properly amended with compost and well mulched is probably best. I’m trying to get my garden wheelchair friendly and the tanks are great for that but we’re gonna try the ground cloth like y’alls and do trellises from old fencing that we have, like yours. For access from a wheelchair it looks like an excellent option. Now we have 1 1/4 acres to play with instead of less than a half acre. I wish that there were a market for goat head stickers! We’ve got a cash crop of those eviiillll little boogers! One tiny yellow flower produces 4 nasty stickers. At least I know where I’ll be working for the next few years, lol! Blessings y’all! I’m really enjoying your RUclips channel and Facebook page! Thanks for sharing your lives and experiences with us!
Marching band week here also my boy is soooooo tired! Get to see them preform tonight. I’m hoping to be able to get some seeds this weekend I need more spinach or we won’t make the winter lol.
Thanks for the ride along, Great place. Your hard work shows in your garden and your animals. Everything always looks so good. Thank you for sharing and the great lessons.
When I heard the music I had to check to see if it was living traditions I was watching. Theme music to cosmopolitan cornbread. Another great homestead channel.
Baker creek looks an amazing place, nice to see it quiet as only ever seen videos of it jam packed with people! I would love to visit there and go to their heirloom seed expo in Santa Rosa.
Thanks for the video. I just ordered some fall and spring seeds from baker creek yesterday. So it was neat to see how they have their store set up. Good luck with the broccoli and cauliflower.
Keep it up Yes i'm a 5 a day man love watching how thing are coming on at the homestead. having fun looking at all your old clip just to see what you have done and how. :-)
I could use some tips on germinating broccoli. As one of the few veggies my finicky spouse will eat, it's a staple in our house. But I've always had terrible luck with germination.
I was lucky enough to find your videos and I have been binge watching ever since!!! I love your family and all of the wonderful information you share with the viewers, but I have to ask a question. Is there a reason that so many homesteading women wear hats all of the time? I can understand wearing them outside but I wonder why inside? Thanks again, for all you give to your viewers. LOVE sharing your adventure.
So excited for you guys!!! I look forward to seeing those raised beds grow. I haven't grown broccoli or cauliflower, but want to next year. Keep us updated please, I would love to see the stages of growth for those plants! Awesome video!
Awesome, I got all Baker Creek seeds I ordered this year for our fall garden! We are planting one more round of squash and zucchini and green beans first. Think we will start our brassicas indoors under the grow lights so they don't shrivel up and fly away, LOL in this Texas heat! I got the Orange Oriole swiss chard and we love Fordhook giant so that's a return, very curious about how that Vulcan one does for you! My hubby is a Trekky, LOL
I planted in ground last year but I didn’t have time to weed it and looked horrible. This year I made 4 raised beds, in one I planted 4 or 5 rows of corn. The corn grow no taller than 2 feet. I’m going to tear it out and try planting some kale. And see how it goes
I started peas, collards, cabbage, lettuce, radish, turnip and kale last weekend. Added some more kale yesterday because lm not seeing any sprouts yet and the collards and turnips are going like gang busters! Our turnips we plant pretty dense because we grow them for the greens. I also added another round of green beans because we eat them like crazy around here. I’ve never grown broccoli or cauliflower either though I want to. Would like to grow Brussel sprouts too I just never get them all started in time. I’m in zone 6b and it’s past their “seed” time. I thought about checking the nursery and seeing if they had good sized starts but even that’s probably too late. Oh, always next season. This is my first time even getting anything in for fall. I hope they all do ok. I didn’t get any squash or melons thanks to vine borers. Never had them critters before but they sure sucked the life out of all my plants this year. :( Thank you for sharing your beautiful farm. I always love my visits. God Bless ~Lisa
Interesting that you are considering getting rid of the raised beds...but you've had so much harvest from the "big" garden! I love how you set that one up and I'm probably going to do the same when I get my property. Tell, what is the value of the raised bed? To keep grass at bay? With your ground cover, you've covered that in the big garden for sure. I really love that idea. That seed shop you went to looks so wonderful. The display makes me want to buy all of their seeds!
This is so funny, I just signed up for a seed swap and placed an order with baker creek to swap a couple seeds, and plan some new (to me) heirloom varieties next spring. We are over in southern Indiana and I’m planning a road trip vacation for next year and was looking up bakers creek touring info :)
What a beautiful place Baker creek is. You guys are so lucky to live near such a great resource. I would go crazy in there with the seed buying! How do you manage the kid stuff and the home stuff. I made a promise to myself not to be in the garden all day every day and spend the summer doing more kid activities. It has been tough with the swimming lessons, dance, travel...to keep up with the garden.
I've been pushing on my fall planting because so much of my early planting got burned up this spring and summer. I'm in Springfield and embarrassed to say I haven't been to Baker's Creek yet. I'm going to have to remedy that soon.
Wait a minute! Was that a banana tree at 3:37 hiding out in the row? Thanks for taking us along to Baker Creek, I have been a fan of their seeds for about 15 years now. I LOVE their catalogs. And their seeds.
If you don't like the way she drives, Stay off of the sidewalks look out! I would lose my mind in that seedstore!I couldn't leave!!! One of each! Baker Creek is my favorite Seed Company and then Seed Savers Exchange. Check out the Boothby's Blonde cucumbers, they are thin skinned and perfect for sweet pickles or any pickles! Mexico midget cherry tomatoes you got to get those! And Aunt Ruby's German green tomatoes wonderful!
Baker Creek is so rustic and inviting! I'm hoping to visit Johnny Selected Seeds in Maine. We have traditional ground level gardens at the farm. The main garden was established by my late father-in law. I discovered one of my late mother-in-law's kitchen gardens It was hidden, next to the tractor shed , completely grassed over, except for a clump of Tiger Lilies. So my brother-in law plowed it up, once again... I used the FRENCH INTENSIVE method and it is abundant! However, we need to establish raised beds at our new house in the woods. Small sunny space. What worked best for you in your raised beds? I like the cattle fence arbor design and will use chicken solar electric fencing to keep out the critters... Thanks! Diane
Thank you guys for showing how you're doing it. I'm thinking of putting in a Fall raised bed this year just for some leafy greens and maybe some green onions. I didn't know you could do broccoli and cauliflower in the fall!
I am in Missouri also and broccoli and cauliflower do so much better in the fall because our springs are SO unpredictable!! It gets hot SO fast and send your plants to seed before they ever get big enough to get a harvest.
We just completed our Fall raised bed planting. Hubby is getting the big gardens ready for turnip greens. You all are so inspiring.
My preschool class is studying how things are grown. Today we watched this video. They LOVED it! Especially when the rooster crowed. We will definitely be watching more in the future! Thanks for providing lots of learning for all ages. Love and great weather from South Carolina and Ms. Tori’s First Steps 4K class!!!
You are sssooo lucky to have a heirloom seed grower in your area. You know all the seeds they grow are already accumulated to your zone.
Way to go Grace! Be safe. Make your mom and dad proud!
We are truly blessed to have you as well. I live in the inner city and much rather spend my mornings with you homesteading, it gets my day off to a much better start 🙂
What a blessing to be able to physically go shop for seeds at Baker Creek! Great job on those raised beds.
I know so jelly!
I’ve ordered seeds and seen a few pictures of the Baker creek seed store but never have seen it in its entirety. It was so wonderful😱 I just want to thank you for sharing that with me you all made my day🙋 best 30th birthday present ever ♥️
Growing broccoli and cauliflower is so easy! Just get it before the worms and broccoli even has a second head!
i am twenty five years older than you sara, and it makes me soooo happy to see you sharing all you do with the families of the world. Reminds me of planting with Grandma and Papa....Ann from Georgia
Instead of doing away with the raised beds later, I would densely plant perennial herbs and flowers there and make it easy on yourself. Pollinators are good for the garden!!!
Keep the raised beds for flowers for the pollinators! Great job guys!
Very nice video Kevin and Sarah. We are soon going to be doing fall planting too. May the *Heavenly* *Father* bless you guys!
Perhaps next year, if this late planting works out, you can tarp the beds so they stay clean/sprout out the weed seeds so they die off then when you’re ready in the late summer you can plant at will?
So much better, and safer, for your daughter to learn to drive there, than to try to learn in this chaos of traffic in the Phoenix area!
I love your family dynamic. You all work so well together!
We are blessed by your presence and by your videos I can bless you by prayers and watching your videos with all the advertisements to
thank you for sharing and
God bless you
Thank you Keith! We can never have enough prayer!
I like how Sara nods her head all the time showing she agree with Kevin.
This was the best video of Baker Creek I have seen! So Peaceful as many of your video's have been.
How awesome to be able to go to the actual Baker Creek!
New driver and marching band! You guys have your work cut out for you! Busy years ahead!
When I lived in Missouri I had huge wonderful herb beds...…..tarragon, chives, Greek oregano, sage, thyme, lemon balm, yarrow, chamomile, mint, garlic chives. All I had to do was just cut constantly and dry them, they were a joy to look after. I also had permanent beds of asparagus, rhubarb and horseradish......they were all perennial and very little work to upkeep.
Baker Creek looked so peaceful. I was there for one of their festivals and it was crazy but fun. Good luck on those gardens.
Maybe turn those raised beds into perennial beds. Asparagus, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, grapes :)
Baker creek,wow what an awesome place.
You could've let the Goats at that lot. Put them on a long leash and let them have fun! Lol
Beautiful place.How blessed you are to live close to Bakers Creek
I miss going to baker creek.so THANK you for taking us along.
I love all your videos, but listening to the decision making helps me learn so much!
We have 14 raised beds. We built them our first year on our homestead. We have weed barrier and gravel under and around them. I'll email you pictures. We cleared a large garden plot that we will start using next year. So glad to see that y'all get behind on weeding too. My front walk and flower beds suffer during garden time.
Yes..just not enough hours in the day to keep up with everything. Would love to see the pics!
Funny today’s video is about Bakercreek. My sister-in-law and I are going today for lunch and hopefully pick up Rye Bread along with more beet seeds.
I love your channel! Your family is wonderful and you provide a lot of good clean fun to my day! Baker Creek is dreamy. Thanks for sharing.
~~~ I enjoyed this video and also I see a lot of my friends on your channel. I am Dave here in the northern mountains of lovely GEORGIA .~~~GOD''S JOY my friends. ~~~
I really enjoy your family and videos. I’ve learned so much. Thank you. My grandparents were born in Ava....many many years ago!

THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT AND BLESSED DAY :-)
I am amazed at the restraint you showed at Baker Creek !!! I'd need about $500 before I set foot in there !!!
Great video!!! I love how you share information. Glad you and your daughter had a good time!! Memories are priceless!!!!!

I ordered my gourd seeds from Baker Creek this week. Can't wait
Keep it up Yes i'm a 5 a day man love watching how thing are coming on at the homestead. having fun looking at all your old clip just to see what you have done and how. :-)
Hehe Momma. You are so funny. I will steer clear of your daughter on the road!! Far, far away in California haha!! Thanks for sharing!
Ty for doing the tour! I’m a traditionalist!

Broccoli are really great for preventing autoimmune diseases, which are becoming quite common.
I was wondering why I never saw broccoli and cauliflower in your harvesting. Good luck! Thanks for being amazing!

I don’t know how you do it all. Thank you for sharing your trip for seeds.
A lot of hard work but it's worth it in the end. Kevin, have you seen any deer at your new deer stand?
Baker creek is my kind of place I would love to go there so pretty. Thanks for sharing.

With your ground cover, you've covered that in the big garden for sure. I really love that idea. That seed shop you went to looks so wonderful. The display makes me want to buy all of their seeds!
thank you for sharing your good work that leads to sustainable living,
This is so funny, I just signed up for a seed swap and placed an order with baker creek to swap a couple seeds, and plan some new (to me) heirloom varieties next spring. We are over in southern Indiana and I’m planning a road trip vacation for next year and was looking up bakers creek touring info :)
God Bless to you to my friend
What a beautiful place Baker creek is. You guys are so lucky to live near such a great resource. I would go crazy in there with the seed buying!
How do you manage the kid stuff and the home stuff. I made a promise to myself not to be in the garden all day every day and spend the summer doing more kid activities. It has been tough with the swimming lessons, dance, travel...to keep up with the garden.
I've been pushing on my fall planting because so much of my early planting got burned up this spring and summer. I'm in Springfield and embarrassed to say I haven't been to Baker's Creek yet. I'm going to have to remedy that soon.
Wait a minute! Was that a banana tree at 3:37 hiding out in the row? Thanks for taking us along to Baker Creek, I have been a fan of their seeds for about 15 years now. I LOVE their catalogs. And their seeds.
You're so lucky to live within driving distance of Baker Creek. :)
If you don't like the way she drives, Stay off of the sidewalks look out! I would lose my mind in that seedstore!I couldn't leave!!! One of each! Baker Creek is my favorite Seed Company and then Seed Savers Exchange. Check out the Boothby's Blonde cucumbers, they are thin skinned and perfect for sweet pickles or any pickles! Mexico midget cherry tomatoes you got to get those! And Aunt Ruby's German green tomatoes wonderful!
Baker Creek is so rustic and inviting! I'm hoping to visit Johnny Selected Seeds in Maine. We have traditional ground level gardens at the farm. The main garden was established by my late father-in law. I discovered one of my late mother-in-law's kitchen gardens It was hidden, next to the tractor shed , completely grassed over, except for a clump of Tiger Lilies. So my brother-in law plowed it up, once again... I used the FRENCH INTENSIVE method and it is abundant! However, we need to establish raised beds at our new house in the woods. Small sunny space. What worked best for you in your raised beds? I like the cattle fence arbor design and will use chicken solar electric fencing to keep out the critters... Thanks! Diane
Thank you guys for showing how you're doing it. I'm thinking of putting in a Fall raised bed this year just for some leafy greens and maybe some green onions. I didn't know you could do broccoli and cauliflower in the fall!
I am in Missouri also and broccoli and cauliflower do so much better in the fall because our springs are SO unpredictable!! It gets hot SO fast and send your plants to seed before they ever get big enough to get a harvest.
Going to try a fall garden of cabbage lettuce and spinach here just north of Texarkana USA !!
Personally I like raised beds for HOA type of yards but homes with half an acre and larger I think traditional in the ground gardens are better.
