They are so correct, this is a true universal love story. I remember 20 years ago 2001 when I first started college. I went to a predominantly white school and so many of the girls loved and watched this movie in their dorms...it resonated with them as well.
Basketball saved my life as i had nothing else to rely on as a kid. This movie is special to me because its hard to find someone who shares that love of the game that way.
They were also dating at the time which is why they had great chemistry. Just in the scenes where they made out they went full out because they were together at the time and could do that. Usually in movies they have "movie kisses" where it's sort of a pretend kiss. In this movie they went all the way. Not to harp on kissing but it helped to make them look believeable as a couple and aided with their chemistry. I totally love the movie.
Gina, the director and writer wanted Mekhi Phifer to be Quincy. He had another project so he couldn't do it, and Omar Epps auditioned and the rest was history.
Mekhi Phifer should had played the Best Man or The Wood instead of Tay Diggs. Tay was a bad actor for those movies. It was like Tay Diggs trying to play a black man
When you are literally playing basketball for your school or college as this comes out and know that there are girls that play too, for the school team or another team. It's the best competition, especially to a girl who knows how to play. She is trying to beat you lol : ). The two characters were also dating "on the low"
This movie is GEM 💎 and we haven't seen one like this sense Hollyweird makes sure black couples kissing isn't a reality so I really appreciate Love and Basketball
I love how it is sneakily meant to be a motivational ‘Black’ movie, where the parents want them to see pass basketball and money that unfortunately surrounds them due the parents themselves. His father being a past basketball player and her father being a bank hard worker. Ball & money.
I’m assuming she doesn’t need a man to validate her existence. Plus she probably realizes all the dust that’s walking around and DECIDED to be single and childless.
@@biggeneraltruckn5797 a woman's value is definitely not based on whether she managed to bag a guy and bear him a child. I can't believe there are still people out there with this type of mindset.
Still my favorite movie to this day. Hits so many notes for me personally.
I'm just amazed at the fact that she literally learned to play basketball for this role. She could've fooled the hell out of me. 🤣😭
They just dont make movies like this anymore...
