- After years of wanting to hear the corrected speed of this rare cover, The Move released their version on last years "Shazam" Remastered & Extended Edition. A few years back I tried to edit it to the right speed, thankfully it is now available. I do not own any copyright to this song, just a fan wanting to share rare music.
I believe the Move was the greatest band ever..Carl Wayne's vocals were killer..all great singers.this cover gives me chills..thank you
So very glad to hear this record, proving what a class band the Move were, and Roy Wood was a musical genius
Sang this song.at an open mic night, Move style. Went down very well.
If I was to imagine a British First Wave version of this song, this is exactly what it would sound like. Such a perfect rendition.
Roy and Wayne's vocals together are absolutely stunning. Both very similar to each other but easily identified who's who. A great track.
Move had always very beautiful vocal harmoniesRoy was always disictive there.
Bev's fills, Ace's Bass Movements, quite sublime, should have been a single.
Unlikely to have been Ace on bass as he left the previous year or 1967, most probably Rick Price in 1969.
@@Capstan05 Sorry, didnt spot the date of the TOTP show on this BBC broadcast
Did it say the recording date on the album? The video makes no mention. Placing it on the expanded Shazam album doesn't necessarily imply when it was performed and recorded, but just hearing one guitar is consistent with it being after Ace was out. But the sound is more consistent with an earlier recording then '69.
This gets my vote as the best ever vocals on a Move track. The harmonies between Carl and Roy here are powerful and totally stunning especially the choruses. Very happy a high quality dub of this track was found and issued in 2016 on the expanded Shazam
First time I heard this cover. It sounds better than the original!
Great band The Move
How is it that I've never heard this gem of a cover until today???
Wow, Yes and me to!!!
I believer that you should never ever try to rerecord a classic, but I think here The Move pull it off. A great version, with the added effect of The Move's distinctive sound within it.
Im crying with joy the Move were incredible at originals & covers & i never thought i would hear this fabulous version Thankyou
You're welcome
Carl had a great voice but Ace was my favorite ....terrific group.
Great cover, but the announcer is quite wrong. This song was written several years before "The Graduate". It was used over the opening credits of Dustin Hoffmann in the airport, but really has nothing at all to do with the film.
this is my tribute to art bell who passed last friday and carl wayne now they are both with god 1945 last of the silents .the leaders of the 60s movements. r i p.amen.
Love that chunky bass, excellent band!
Glad to hear this at the proper speed. They did start out a cover band, and man, they were one helluva one! Somehow managed to make this their own; builds really nicely. The British accented harmonies sound great on this one; not many British *rock* bands having sung naturally then. Awesome, repeat play!
This is the version that I have waited to hear for 20 years since I first learned of the existence of this track. Other versions sound like home recordings, but this sounds like an actual master. It is just stunning and the speed is also finally corrected properly. Thank you so much.
The original version didn't have an electric 12 string and wasn't a hit until electric 12 string was added on later Paul Simon went to England and come back to do it on a TV show he said to the guitarist let me show you how to do the 12 string part the guitarist was Vinnie Bell who did the recording and the water dripping guitar on the Four Seasons record
LOVE IT!!!!.
Nice key change at 2:24, just shows the professionalism of The Move, could easily have got away without it.
Great track, Ace sounds Ace 😇
Recorded on 9 June 1969. Ace is not on here.
Saw them play this at Blackburn,s Cavendish Club 1968. Brilliant band
Lucky sod! That would be a helluva time machine stop.
gorgeous harmonies.
such talent!
💙💜💙💜
Why can't they issue this kind of stuff for Record Store Day?
Great Band,great song!!!
Gold dust
and carl you finally got your bands record store day release long over due.
Even better than the original!
the song wasn't a hit until they added electric 12 string to the original acoustic version by Vinnie Bell Paul; Simon came back from UK to do a US TV show
Wow!
TOP BAND AND ROY THE GENIUS.
Amazing, where are all these near 50 year old songs coming from!! I also have "open my eyes" now so can remove my original video. Interesting that the voice over at the end is quite different from the previous version so they must have re-used the song for a second show. The versions can be quite different such as "piece of my heart" but these versions appear identical. I agree about "sharing the rare music" as it would be a shame to lose some of these gems.
Awesome - Performed live this was probably a rocket. Where and when released?
Originally performed summer of 1969, it was officially released on the Expanded Edition of Shazam in 2016
This wasn't written especially for The Graduate. Just sayin. x
predates the Graduate by years. Mrs. Robinson was written for the Graduate.
Great cover by underated band.
I hear the Rickenbacker but I need substance in the way of songwriting not just covering!
It may a Fender 12 string that Roy used many times.
the Move had lots of gr8 originals
Only Bev could put that Drum interpretation into this. Roy Wood was the main writer in the Move (and the Nightriders before that), using a lot of poems he had written from the age of 12 as well as new stuff written on train journeys. Carl's vocal interpretations were great, Roy's stuff itself was covered by other artists , and The Move liked The Byrds and did some of their stuff too, all part of the Brum Beat club scene where stock blues/rock n roll were expected by the audience but getting your own stuff accross was needed to
Great harmonies Roy and Carl.
