I just started collecting Westerns & try to get the older stuff. Anyway today with the knives that you swap out blades when they dull & such, I'm 52 years old and live in Pennsylvania now you can hunt Sundays and if you get one you just take it to a butcher takes all the tradition and fun out of it. I remember when I first started hunting it was a ritual to sharpen all your knives, stuff your clothes in a sack with a bunch of pine cones it just ain't like it used to be. Miss the old days!
😂 yes sir. Western stuff is cool. I remember 25 years ago they were kinda overlooked. Not these Days. -- Ahh Those old hunting memories. That’s what we carry with us. Only knife I used with heavy change out Razor blades was when they first came out. Still have it. It’s small. Size of a trapper. Used it once. It worked okay for fine skinning off the hide. For cutting through joints and tuff work not so. I still prefer a sharpened up Schrade Sharp finger or old swept blade Hunting knife.
Man that book was so awesome to look at. Especially with you having examples to show on hand. Awesome stuff. I have been hunting knife books in the antique stores. They are such amazing books to have. That hunter/trapper set is amazing. Thanks for sharing as always brother. Take care.
Brother I have knives that my Grandfather used, Great Uncle, and Great Grandfather carried. I still respect all of them. I don't have any problem carrying any knives I have. I hope you have a wonderful evening brother
Awesome collection! Its amazing how the early frontiersman survived in a much more brutal and dangerous wilderness than we have today with simple, handmade tools. In many cases it consisted of a hand forged blade jammed into a piece of antler but as you say, it got the job done. No super steels, no stainless alloys just homespun ingenuity!
I knew from watching your first video that this was gonna be sumpin special and sooner or later it would catch on! Us old historians live to see this kind of stuff. I look at it as senior adult education and just can’t get enough of it. I love early knife and tool but it means more when you learn the history of it. Thank you my friend!
Her Brother Ron. Thanks. We are true Brothers no doubt. It has always been my Dream to share and get the younger Generations into The Heritage that’s gone by the wayside. Thanks to many content folks i see the Dream happening. Guy’s our age we’re truly blessed to grow up when we Did! Best! Thanks again. Dwayne 🇺🇸
I've just discovered your channel and I admit I am envious of your taste and collection..Absolutely quality blades there sir, please continue making videos 'cos I love watching. Cheers from a Brit resident in France 😉
I dobn`t have any antique hunting knives (yet) but I have a ferw hunting swords, ranging from 150-250 years old. My favorite is one with a straight 24" blade made by Weyersberg, a famous gerrman blade smith dynasty dating back to the late 1600s. The scabbard has a cardboard feel, the leather is so old and stiff. Would love to get my hands on some old anglo-indian knives like Arnachellum or other good makers.
I wonder if the knife you are showing at about 5:29 once had a guard that has been cut down into just a simple bolster like it is now? That is what it looks like has happened to me.
I love the old steel. It never fails to have character. They make you ponder,”what’d this blade see and do? Who owned it? Etc”

That book is a keeper. The best i could find was $85 .
That's a amazing collection you have.
Thanks Richard. Keep searching. A copy may show for less. But even at $80 it’s still a great buy. Probably out of print and won’t be printed again

The long hunting knife shown in your reference book resembles the lines of the legendary WWII era John Ek combat knives.
Ahh EK knives are really sweet. Don’t run across those. Pretty scarce
Absolutely incredible!
I have that book, love every page!
Thanks brother. Truly amazingly cool Book. Take care
Not forgotten. I carry my grandfather's knife.

Yes. It’s an old imperial. Knife was re-handled in Walnut without the guard
put oil on that old bag
