Thanks for sharing!! My dad has been gone for 16 years but I still use his tools on a regular basis. Thanks again Magdad!!! The Old Army Scout…
It's actually a leather awl for poking holes in leather to put brads through, but lots of people used them to scratch lines in wood, metal and all kinds of things. I'm sure some people also used them to make pilot holes for screws as well.
In 2003 I re-roofed a house that I'd lived in for 25 years. Inside the box formed by the soffit and fascia I found a 24" folding boxwood rule that had been left there in 1937-8 when the house had been constructed! It was still in excellent condition.
What a steal for $6. Bell systems tools are cool. When I was a kid I would dumpster dive at the phone co. All kinds of interesting stuff. Sometimes new in the package. You did good on this one. Yeah we have to pay 5 cents each for plastic bags here in Va. Great video, Thanks!

That will look like new with a new handle. Well done Mrs Magdad with the bags. As you said, very fancy, but also very strong. Thanks for the video. Dave.
The opposite side of the paint can opener is a paint can closer! You hook it under the lip of the can and lift to rotate the broad end down and the leverage allows you to push the lid on without striking it.

Also called French Chalk. David Chadwick turned me onto using it to dress files before working on soft metal. It prevents the file from loading up and works much better than chalkboard chalk. The box itself. A tool box lasting that long in that good of condition is rare.
@OldSneelock Thankyou for the tip about French Chalk. I’ve worked with Bronze, Brass, Silver and Copper for years and didn’t know this. Every day a school day-much appreciated sir!
Great find for $6! The folding rule alone is worth $20! Mrs. Magdad is a master with her sewing machine! You should keep an eye out for a nice grommet tool so you can put them into fabrics and such for projects.

Box rule, made from boxwood and brass, at one time most tradesmen had one, that's what the long pocket is for on overalls. The brass rod looks like a pipe expanding tool for making sockets on copper pipe.
I remember my Uncle Clem used a key like that for opening ground coffee sold in black cans, don't remember the brand. Loved the video, I'm going out to my shed to see what is hiding in the tool box I inherited from him. Thanks

Mrs MagDad is pretty handy with that sweing machine! I bet you could sell bags like that for $40 or $50 dollars on eBay! Glad you enjoyed your toolbox. ...... I have 2 large toolboxes of spanners I bought 4 months ago, waiting for me to go collect them, in Sussex, England. ...... Belonged to an aero engineer with the Fleet Air Arm, so I am hoping they prove interesting.
Very good deal. I did recognize the button hook. My grandfather lost all but his pinky finger on his right hand a used a button hook to do-up his shirts. I could be wrong but that device that looks like a sardine can-opener may be for a type of ammo can. Sometimes called Ammo Spam Can there were a few different types made by different companies/countries. On the other hand, it could be for a very big food can. : )
Nice work on the bags by Mrs. MagDad 👍 definitely unique. I guarantee other shoppers will be curious about them. I hate that they’ve outlawed the plastic shopping bags. I used to save them for cleaning the cat box and for collecting the dog poop in the yard. Now I have to buy small waste basket liners for the same purpose…., so basically their stupid rule had zero effect on my plastic consumption…., except that now it costs me money. Nice going legislators…
That blue thing is a tool used to put in place when painting so you don't get paint on the opposite surface. That auto wrench is in great shape. And that little saw is pretty unique.
The tool box is really cool. Very nice contents. Mrs. Magdad should start marketing those bags. The laws on plastics is growing. Great job on the bags.

Thanks for watching Dave! I've got a few Bell System tools. Check out my Bell System screwdriver restoration: ruclips.net/video/FJdJ1ecDUm8/видео.html

The Bell Systems screw driver is an insulated screwdriver. The red plastic insulates the ferrule from the shaft.
I've restored a couple of these and actually got out the multi-meter to prove to myself that the ferrule is insulated from the shaft.
Also classic Stanley black handle.
Nice find! That tool box is my favorite part. I bet it will clean up nicely! You were the right person to come across it at the yard sale.

The Yankee "Pokey Thing" is a bradawl. Use it to pierce wood in preparation for screw, just like a pilot drill.

Mrs Magdad just finished a quilt using blue jeans and more of those upholstery samples.
@@357magdad I bet it's beautiful
Well worth the $6 Magdad 🇺🇸. Some very nice finds in that toolbox
I think so too!
Pretty cool find with the wood box and tools.i like those bags 👍
Thanks! I'm working on the box right now! Stay tuned...
Thanks for the tour. Some definitely gems in there. Looking forward to some of the restore videos. Is Mrs. Magdad going to get her own channel? Beautiful work. My daughter would love those bags.
Thanks! Mrs Magdad has no plans for a RUclips channel, but she is on Instagram @mrsmagdad
Box rule, made from boxwood and brass, at one time most tradesmen had one, that's what the long pocket is for on overalls.
The brass rod looks like a pipe expanding tool for making sockets on copper pipe.
The couple of Bell System tools makes me wonder if a former owner worked for the phone company.
Former owner could have been German. My father had some of those German marked tools. Just a thought.
Great haul! Always appreciate the background information.
Thanks Steve! I love learning about the stuff I find!

That’s a neck for a table lamp. It shrouds the central threaded rod between the body of the lamp and the socket. I restore vintage lamps.
Thanks!
Love that toolbox, and the Bell System screwdriver!
I'm pretty excited about that screwdriver!
I love old tools and I have some of those tools from my earlier garage sale hunting days thanks
Hunting for old tools is fun!
I remember the Newhart show where George Utley, the handyman of the inn, was talking in his sleep and kept repeating "ball peen hammer" :) LOL
Nice scores for team MagDad. I look forward to the restoration projects.
I was working on the wood box today!
I remember my Uncle Clem used a key like that for opening ground coffee sold in black cans, don't remember the brand. Loved the video, I'm going out to my shed to see what is hiding in the tool box I inherited from him. Thanks
Thanks for watching! If you find anything interesting, send me a photo!

Mrs Magdad is amazing! Check out the denim jeans quilt she made!

Thanks for watching! It is a button hook.
Good to see these went to someone who appreciates them.
Thanks for watching!
The pokey thing is referred to as an awl. They are used for pretty much anything you need a hole for. Also used as a scriber.

That box is awesome let alone the tools. It screaming to have the paint stripped off and the wood sanded and polished
I may have to move the box up in my schedule...
Excellent shot, Mag.....tons of good stuff....
Thanks!
Mrs Magdad has the nicest re-usable bags in the store!
Not sure but the hacksaw looks like the one we made in metal shop back in 1972. My favorite tool is the Stanley folding ruler.
Thanks for watching! Check out my folding ruler project:

That blue thing is a tool used to put in place when painting so you don't get paint on the opposite surface. That auto wrench is in great shape. And that little saw is pretty unique.
There was some good stuff in that box!
The saw might have went with the tool box originally.
@@timrankin8737 Maybe!
The shears have a flip down angled shear for cutting twine, thin wire and such.
Thanks Robert!
The tool box is really cool. Very nice contents. Mrs. Magdad should start marketing those bags. The laws on plastics is growing. Great job on the bags.
Thanks Wire! The BYO bags actually work out better than plastic as long as we remember to bring them!
I think I like the box the best It would be nice to restore Nice shopping bags that is some old material
I may have to move the box up in my schedule!
1) Paint edge protector...2) bow saw for dows etc...3:15 awl...Good haul for 6 bucks...
