Of course it ends on Law's mystic arte, definitely not a sight you see often..... XD Jokes aside, it's interesting to see someone take this on without playing prior Tales games. Narrative-wise, Namco takes on questions people tend to gloss over because they think they already know the whole conversation, and delve into why people still struggle with them so much despite their supposed simplicity. In Arise, it's the question of freedom, where the first area starts out with the conventional vision of the word that most people default to, and the subsequent areas addressing more difficult issues. In other Tales games, it might be a different question on the line. Writing wise, Namco tends to see the forest over the trees, which means they're at their best when they're able to filter their broader ideas through their party members, but most at fault when they're hurrying to their main point. In terms of the usual anime humor, I find they've shifted away from the usual ticking of boxes and lack of subtlety over time, and I hope they keep going that way. (To be fair, I can't exactly excuse Persona games on those kinds of jokes either.) While Berseria/Zestiria are more recent entries prior to Arise, I actually think Xillia 1 & 2 are a closer jump going from Arise as a starting point. Great games if you have a PS3 around (they really need a modern release). Combat wise, I like that Arise shifted attention more to things the player can actively see on screen, as I felt some past games had too many elements in their combo systems that weren't evident to a viewer and weren't taught properly.
Yeah, first game in the series for me. I've only really returned to this genre in the last few years because P5 pulled me in, lol. Great analysis of the themes, btw. I know Tales is a huge series that I probably won't get around to, but I can definitely see the appeal. Arise is solid and I quite enjoyed it. Hopefully they do some more games.
I’ve played a few tales titles, vesperia, berser.. I’ve enjoyed them all.. I just recently got to 100 on arise.. I really enjoyed this game. 70 hours into it.. I’m kinda done for now but I spent the past 3-4 days into it and had a blast. I keep seeing a lot of hate but I enjoyed it.
@@FirstPlace97 it actually helped me dodge better with shorter , and yeah it you would make combos faster but I still think you could delay your inputs to delay the combo to your liking .
@sultrytornado5580 yes but it's not make or break, fishing should feel simple and be relaxing like that of final fantasy uh Frick I forgot what final fantasy has fishing
The games was not bad by any stretch of the imagination, yet there were a few things that bugged me, one being the battle system, another being the story. I would had wanted to play with all six at the same time instead of the 4 at front and 2 reserve mechanics. And I would had used less of those funny skits (the game has far too many for my taste) and worked more on the main story, especially discount Sephiroth (Volhran), he had a lot of potential to be one of the greatest villains at the similat scale of Dhaos (Tales of Phantasia's antagonist) lesser exposition dump towards the second arc, and an actual prologue (not stock pictures of the main cast doing happy stuff as the game credit rolls) I understand the game was running dire on its resources department. But again, I was expecting more considering how long they have been making games like this. I repeat, the game is good, despites this personal inconveniences.
There's a lot of modern JRPG influence in it. I think for it being the one Tales game in this modern console era, they did a great job with the overall quality. It feels current gen. I personally think the combat is the biggest strength of it. Not just another discount turn-based game. I haven't played the other Tales but I like that it evolved a bit from the linear focus. There's good depth to the battles. Not a perfect game but definitely worth the while.
@@FirstPlace97 I wont deny that the battle system is a very strong asset to this game, in fact I never got bored with the battle system. However, I feel that they could had made it so every character will be present in battle, it would had gone perfect with how some of the cinematic cues. But seriously they spend too much budget on the battle and not so much on the story. I am aware that Tales games do not have the most story oriented formulas, that was never their strong point, but their characters are, as some say, charismatic, humane, worth caring for. So, I can say that Tales of Arise is a decent/ good, despite the few shortcomings that I mentioned on my previous post, it could had been perfect. Maybe the next one will be.

My Top1 JRPG

Dem Chapter descriptions tho lol
But yeah, great review and I will forever cherish this game, despite the flaws and all
Ha. Thanks for watching. The game is one to remember.
there is an option in the settings for long buffer inputs and short buffer inputs
I always thought that would effect the dodge input times. I had it set to longer by default, so wouldn't shorter make combos last for even less time?
@@FirstPlace97 it actually helped me dodge better with shorter , and yeah it you would make combos faster but I still think you could delay your inputs to delay the combo to your liking .
Good info. Thank you.@@kizuma4269
you are welcome .@@FirstPlace97
This is the best display of the games combat. Thank you. I am about to buy it
If you have PS, I believe they brought some of the games to the sub service. Either way, I'm sure you will enjoy this.
Aside from the fishing it's the best tales of to date
wait....is this a complaint about the fishing minigame? 🥺
