    People overhyped way too much
    Jrpg that people should play Are FF games, Dragon quest, the rest of the list is solid, there is also SMT nocturne (on hard mode...hahahah no just no) SMT IV, SMT V, persona games etc.

    We agree on Suikoden 3 100%. Refreshing that it's coming from someone who thinks Suikoden is the 2nd coming of christ.
    For me, Grandia III and Star Ocean 4 don't deserve the shit they get. The complaints I see are "anti anime" talking points.

    Tales of Vesperia was my first Tales game and what got me into the Tales series but Xillia is my favorite of all time. It is perfection to me from the story to the battle system to the characters. I loved everything about it. My top 3 would be Tales of Xillia, Tales of vesperia and then Tales of the Abyss in that order but I feel there is no bad Tales game, just better and worse.

    • @ifrit1937
      @ifrit1937 2 месяца назад

      Ya my same opinion (granted my 1 thru 3 are Symphonia then Berseria then Abyss). All Tales games are at least decent and fun, even Zestiria to some degree with all it's issues (worst bad camera, multiplayer was ruined by the game's gimmick system, the passive skill system on equipment was the worst I've seen in any game period, and story easily in the series as not a lot goes on and the main baddie doesn't even really have a motive or any real agency in the game until the final 5% of the game and you were just plodding around looking at the world as the main plot point up to that point (ya you knew about the Lord of Calamity but they did nothing throughout the game until the end and even most of the villains weren't connected to him besides 1 you meet late game)...granted doesn't have as bad as a drop that Vesperia's Act 3 was (which I put Vesperia at 3rd from bottom unlike the video's creator due to that alone given how good acts 1 and 2 were...granted even with those acts being good I will say all 3 acts didn't really fit together well and felt like 3 separate game plot pitches thrown into 1 game haphazardly more than anything...they cold've connected acts 1 and 2 better imo and act 3 should've been either cut completely or had focused on the political aspects that were going on up to that point and NOT swapped to giant global pollution Octopus (at most make it a weapon by the main baddie)...throw in Duke himself was a bad final boss imo due to his motives not being that great as their goals were the same as the main party but method was different...could've been good for say the 3rd to 4th from the final boss but someone that was using the adephagos as a weapon or the adephagos itself with actual intellect should've been the final boss instead imo if they were to add it at all to act 3)).

    The only game on your list I take issue with was Chrono Cross and that’s a personal thing not a dig at the game. As Chrono Trigger is my all time favorite game of any era, the marketing of Cross made it seem like it was a sequel to to Trigger. Young me had no idea it was a combination sequel to Trigger AND Radical Dreamers and was both confused and jaded about it at the time. Still loved the CC OST though. lol

    Absolute travesty that Falcom games, particularly the Trails games have not been on your radar, the series as a whole is severely underrated but can definitely stand up against DQ and FF, Tales of, suikoden, and probably has a slight edge due to the continuity of story. Now I will have to eagerly await your reviews for each of the titles. Thanks in advance!!

    • @ifrit1937
      @ifrit1937 2 месяца назад

      Only real issue with your statement in regards to Trails anyway is that it only applies if you take the entire series or at the very leas that arc of the series as a whole and not just a single game by itself. With the entire arc/series it easily beats out games in those series you mention but without the entire arc and the game's being considered individually they're a bit weaker than those other series (best one would be Sky 1 imo that may be able to beat out some individual games in those other series...maybe Zero as well but even that needs Sky 2 to really tell the whole story as intended and Cold Steel is imo just a joke narrative wise by itself and even the whole arc probably isn't as good as some individual games from Tales/Suikoden/FF/DQ/etc as imo it's the weakest games narratively with the bonding system only making things worse imo (never should've added it to the series, should've stuck with canon relationships imo like Sky)....can't say too much about Daybreak right now though as I'm playing it but with how far in and connect the series is without the rest of the games you're likely missing something, especially understanding to some references/character backgrounds and relationships from past game characters).
      Now as far as Ys 8, Ys 9, Ys Origin, Ys Oath in Felghana, and Tokyo Xanadu yeah you're right in those regards as they need don't really need previous games to be played to be on par with those other game series imo (granted....Ys is somewhat connected though but not to the point that you NEED the other games to understand the entire context or finish a story arc...granted Ys 9 did have quite a bit more references to past games than all other games (granted also the latest on in the timeline too so it has a lot more it could refer to unlike say the upcoming Ys 10 which if i;m right occurs either shortly after Ys 2 or his next adventure timeline wise so it shouldn't have that many references to many past games besides Ys 1 and 2 (first 2 of Adol's adventures) and maybe 1 other game)). And Tokyo Xanadu while using the Xanadu name is not connected to old Xanadu games at all by the looks of things (granted we will be getting a TX 2 in the next few years as Falcom announced it a couple months ago...in some ways I'm more excited for it than Ys or Trails as imo TX took the best aspects of Ys's action combat and combined them with Trails writing...in fact outside of a few issues Tokyo Xanadu 1 almost took my favorite game of all time from Tales of Symphonia which has kept that place for the last 20 years now so if TX2 fixes those issues and keeps what made me like TX then I may finally have a new favorite game of all time).

      @@Daiyve Chrono Cross is also fantastic. Though it's connection to Chrono Trigger is not what fans expected, so approach it from a perspective of it's own thing and you'll love it. The story is far more complex (and in my mind far better than most rpgs). The characters are also far more complex and has a lot more backstory.
      Xenosaga is a bloated, convoluted piece of meh in my mind :D.

      Whichever way you go, Xenogears, Chrono Cross or Chained Echoes, you're gonna have a blast.

    There are very few RPGs that get a 10 out of 10 from, mostly because my taste is quite particular. But when it does come to that thought, Final Fantasy IX is the first one I think of. Ending legit made me tear up.

    • @ifrit1937
      @ifrit1937 2 месяца назад

      Gonna be honest...I have never given a single rpg a 10/10. Yea most people won't do it like I would but a game has to be absolutely perfect in every regard (which is almost certainly impossible) and I have to like it in order to get that score and so far no game, even my favorite Tales of Symphonia (9.5/10 imo) has ever gotten that score and it's STILL not even the highest score I've given a game (highest would probably be a tie between Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4, Dragon Quest 8 and 11, 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Tokyo Xanadu, Ys 9, Trails from Azure, and Trails in the Sky 2 at about a 9.7/10 (obviously I'm basing them off how I'd score them at the time of release...many of them have aged to some degree).
      Is this standard ridiculous? Yes, absolutely but I'll still stand by it so I'll likely never give a game a 10/10 score...at best it'll be a 9._ score.

    Surprised you gave Nier a shot out of the blue. It's good you enjoyed it. I don't think you should limit how many games you think are 10/10 worthy. Do as many as you think they are with mentions of those close but this and why not. Missing out on a lot still. No update on your Final Fantasy re-attempt. You're missing out on Falcom games besides the Y's 8. You got Y's 1 and 2 and so many more on there plus the Trails series and some are being remade such as Xanadu. Also, I'm sure you got your eyes on the upcoming Dragon Quest 1, 2 and 3 2D HD remakes. We have no idea if you got any of Square's 2D HD games like Octopath just Star Ocean 2R.

Those other three games are not 10 out of 10s Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana is worth 10/10. I love the story in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 the tutorial on the other hand feels like a college class. I watch the anime sword art online the game is good from those who like the anime perspective but is very grindy. Tales of arise is a very good game on the PlayStation 5 I just don't find myself enjoying as much as Ys. So I think your list is worth looking into.

Its annoying because the character art is beautiful, its a shame they dont have more money to make the graphics look more polished.

    Tales being the Cousin of the SO series? Na Father or Uncle would be a better title as most of the team of Phantasia broke off to make the SO team and based it off a lot of what Tales did. I'd also argue character interactions are much better in Tales via the skit system than SO or any bonding like system in any jrpg series as the amount of skits cover far more aspects/interests of the characters than just bonding events and doesn't focus only (or at least heavily) on romance for the most part with opposite gender characters in say Trails/Persona (where imo the bonding events in CS and Persona ruin relationships in the game as most of them between the MC and girls focus far too much on getting them hooked up)...throw in the fact there are tons more skits where there's focus on other characters without the MC being involved in any way interacting with each other in comparison to all the above games including SO (even in SO when it does this the MC is either there listening or engaging in the conversation between other characters, in Tales skits you have many where the MC isn't even in the skit at all or mentioned so you get a far better look at how non MC character interact with each other and start up relationships of some sort whether it be romantic, mentor, just friends, drinking buddies, etc than other game series).
    Will say I disagree with Vesperia being 10/10 worth though out of the series cause the story falls off far too much in act 3 to warrant a 10/10...8.5 is the most I give it tbh. As for which Tales game may deserve a full 10/10 either Symphonia (due to imo being the most well made game in the series as unlike all the other games it does everything well imo without any huge weakness, throw in the most well written story from a English grammar/lack of plot holes perspective than the rest of the series and even with the subject matter (what goes on in the story) it's either the best or at least top 3 in the series) or Tales of the Abyss imo as it'd be the next best after Symphonia in this aspect and in some ways beats Symphonia when you consider characters (Luke is imo the most well developed main MC character in the series to date...granted you don't have to like him and imo he even becomes more boring with his character change but compared to all other MCs in the series they're not given the degree of character development Luke got)...biggest issue it had was probably some characters were far too annoying (Anise) and it may have lasted a bit too long than needed (act 3 was almost a repeat of act 2 for all intents and purposes...they easily could've ended the game at the end of act 1 just like Vesperia could've (and should've imo as act 3 ruined what was a good story) ended at the end of act 2). Would even consider Berseria due to the characters story but I dislike the arte tree combat system and Arise could've been there if it wasn't for the twist in main enemy in the 2nd half of the game.
