I had this exact question. Thanks for making video.
You are always very genuine and relatable in your videos. Don't mind the focus issues. Really great comparison video, Kelly.
Nice vid Kelly. I already have the MA2 and really happy with it, my go-to. Still fly my Mini1 but tends to be for fun and keep in practice.
I just purchased mine. Thanks for the video---watched it twice before i bought the MIni2 fly more combo. Thank you!
Great video, answered many of my questions, thank you!
Great info, thanks for confirming occusync, that was the deciding factor for me.
Great comparison. Thank you.
Thanks Kelly for this video. It’s an answer to my question on your Mini 2 video.
Perfect. This answered many of my questions being a first time drone buyer. It really does just come down to my personal preference but now I know the differences of this new mini 2 over the air 2. Great video and awesome, direct break downs.
Thank you for answering my question
Very informative. Thanks for helping me decide which to buy.
Thank you. Very useful
this is exactly what I need lol, thanks for the tips
Thank u for the answer. I was waiting for it a couple weeks. Because I'm a new beginning drone. I never fly drone before. I use drone for fun only.
Great video - it looks like the mini 2 is a fantastic, 'budget' DJI drone but, as comes through on most reviews for Air 2, it's the Air 2 that's the more sophisticated drone that still remains one of the very best consumer drones for the money 😊
I'd be stoked with either one! :)
Excellent. Thanks
Good summary at the end
Great video, watching on samsung s10e and focus issue went nearly unnoticed.
For amateur radio Field Day this year, I took my Mavic Mini (1) to our operation point. The elevation was about 6,050ft. My drone did not want to fly at that altitude and I wished I had a more powerful unit. I managed to get a few minutes of flight time and got a couple of stills. But I really wanted to capture some of the area with video, especially our camp and the antennas that were deployed. Perhaps a Mini 2 would do better. I really want something light and portable for these kinds of deployments. Thanks for the video.
Just got the mavic air 2 ,, mainly
Gona use it for backpacking and hiking ,, might get the mini 2 later for my ultralight trips
I have decided to get both
Great info....
Great Comparison...I seen the Title and i thought then that the MA2 was the winner...However, The Mini 2 is a drone that can get in tighter places and and it is capable of getting that good shot, plus not having to register it is nice..I agree with Sean Ozz...It's cheaper and if i crash it or sink it in water it's not a HUGE hit on the wallet..The one thing i don't Like about the mini series is the tedious screws for the props...The MA2 is like the bigger Mavic Series, easy twist and lock on props.....Awesome Video Kelly i knew it would be, you go in depth and always informative...These kind of video's help on decision making on which to buy and what purpose they could serve..Or buy both LOL...Thumbs Up thanks Kelly
Great video!
I have both and I love them both❤️
Good video The Mini 2 is a great budget drone but personally I'll be going for the Air 2 for the extra features like obstacle avoidance, better camera and tracking features
Thanks for the info i was struggling on which one to buy buy it's final I'm buying the mavic air 2 Friday 😃 😊
Awesome! Have fun flying! 👍
Good video man. I'd get the Mav Air 2 just cause the mini has no obstacle avoidance or active track
Dji mini 2 has active track
Mavic air does not have enough sensors either
@@firsttes6753 you sure?
@@Peytonsdad yes very sure it’s not like active track but close it’s like a hack
@@Peytonsdad search it
Other than one, minor quibble, great video! I'm going for my first drone and going for the Part 107. In my congested airspace, I really like DJI's inclusion of ADS-B on their > 250g aircraft (I'm also a student pilot). My photographer self is severely tempted by the Pro.
Here's the quibble: "criteria" is the plural form of "criterion."
First drone and O M G i LOVE the Mini 2. Now i'm que'd up for a Skydio 2. I would recommend the Fly more combo too - that extra charger is clutch. My plan was to buy in cheap to see if i wanted to get in DEEP. The Mini is so good it's the only "Manual flight" drone i can see myself needed and i'm going to get the top of the line autonomous Skydio 2 once i can order it. Im so psyched about next summer! lol
Already have the Air 2 & the Mini 2 was released afterwards. Just wanted to checkout what I was missing (if anything) & your review did an excellent job of doing so, thank you! All the best from Zurich Switzerland!
brother according to your experience which one i should get?
@@RaviKumar-uy8ss I upgraded to the Air 2s last year because of the better low light capabilities, not to mention the 1“ sensor! But to tell you the truth, the Mavic Air 2 was a Great drone & from the flying characteristics notice no difference! And the camera was also sufficient, just felt like the upgrade was necessary, which it probably wasn’t…
@@MrConsens-JamesHess thanks for your kind reply brother. Air2s is more expensive as i know. so i was thinking between Mini 2 and Air2.
Great early comparison. Between the Mini 2, Air 2, and Mavic Pro 2 next?
I have been wondering this very question. Thanks for posting.
Its not that hard to answer that question. The air 2 is a much better drone. Better camera (48mp, higher bitrate), obstacle detection, faster, more stable in the air, better gimbal etc. The mini 2 is a drone for beginners.
@@ChristiaanRoest79 not at all. Mini 2 does have less noise and overall better image quality when it comes to dark scenes, it's much lighter and more more compact and therefore more transportable and it only costs half of the price :) when you want better image quality, get the Mavic 2 Pro.
I appreciate your straight forward review. I believe the mini 2 is my cup of tea and exactly what I've been waiting for. Thank you Sir.
Good info - thanks for posting......I am looking for a link for the controller that you showed at the end....???
Спасибо большое за видео!
I have both... Mini 2 is way more fun imo. Can't go wrong with either tho.. have a blast
Big difference in propeller noise ?
Has Both same video quality?
I was about to buy the Mini 2 Upgrade pack but they don’t include the propeller guards this time (since there is no Object Avoidance like the Air does I think these are key) and they should have made room for in the Bag. Thanks for GRT comparison vid sir!
Great comparison. I am still leaning towards the Mini 2 since I shoot over 90% still's. I am wondering about the loudness factor. I figure both are pretty quiet, which is an asset in wildlife photography. I have a couple of Hubsan 501S's and crows are really attracted to them so it turns into a dogfight. I also fly a Splash Drone 3 , amongst others, and turtles and dolphins can detect it's big 12 inch props and cause them to dive! So I will take this opportunity to recommend that anytime you are shooting wildlife photos stay at least 45 degrees out for a better shot and minimizing disturbing them. Little critters think the drone is a predator bird and will react to the shadow as well.
Great video Kelly, hope I spelled that right might have missed an “e”
No one reviewing these DJI drones seem to mention the use of older version batteries in newer drones. Will mini batteries work in a mini 2? Plug and play backward compatibility? Truly enjoyed the retro 60’s 70’s tv feel. Keep up the good work, and stay focused 😉lol
I have the Mavic 2 Pro but I am getting the Mini 2 as I will be able to fly it in Europe (and a bunch of other places) without having to get a license and with minimal restrictions. As they say the best camera is the one you have in your hand (or in the air) when your photo op shows up!!
I got em both . Plus the mavic mini 1
Very good review on the two Kelly i think the Mavic Air 2 is the way to go if you have the money.but i liking the Mavic 2 for the price. I would like to see safety sencers on it. I think the wight is not a big deal for my it only cost 5:00 to register it and it gives me a good feeling the the FAA has my information if lost and i have my 107 so I would need to register it if i use it for work. Take cary my Friend
How is the transmission with an android tablet and which tablet is best. Thanks for helping with this decision. Mavic Air it is....
I went with the mavic air 2. I got it from best buy a few weeks ago. I'm registered so that wasn't a big problem. I still got my first drone the phantom 3 standard. It still runs great we'll over 500 plus flights. So I think ma2 will probably last
I got my 1st drone, the VTI Phoenix from Vivitar. I see you're in ATX, I'm in Pflugerville!!! Howdy Neighbor.
Thank you so much for making this video it has really been useful 🙏🙂👍 im going to have to go with the Dji mini 2 even though Dji mavic air 2 wins over it on many other categories and i would really like to have that. But still im really on a tight budget and i can get a fly more combo Dji mini 2 for the price of 1 Dji mavic air 2. If the Dji mini 2 didnt have ocusync 2.0 then i would have to go for mavic air 2 but since it foes i think Dji mini 2 is for me :) Thank you so much fro making this informative video 🙂🙏👍 and here in Nepal 🇳🇵where i live the Dji Mavic air 2 fly more combo costs 145000 nepali rupees and the Dji mini 2 fly morw combo's expected price is 80000 nepali rupees.
I have the Maverick air I will be getting to Maverick air 2 the Maverick air has Wi-Fi have a little trouble flying when all the leaves are on the trees losing signal curious to see how the ocusync works I'm sure it'll be better I just fly for fun but love all the pictures how clear they are in the movies are really neat to share with others they're really surprised how wellness and easy it flies and that nice pictures they take as soon as I can afford it I will be getting the Maverick air 2 right now Maverick air camera is broken most likely the cable I will be sending it out to get it fixed I will keep both drones I check out all the RUclips videos to learn how to use it and what to expect thanks again.
Thank you Kelly for this great video with the 15 differences of the Mavic Air 2 and the Mini 2. I just ordered my Mini 2 and can't wait to get that bird in the air and see what she's got. I think both of these drones have their place depending on what folks want to spend and what they are actually going to use the drone for. I, for one, think that the Mini 2 is an awesome drone for travel but I don't mind the fact the Mavic Air 2 is a little heavier and bigger in the backpack. All that said I will probably be just carrying the Mini 2 on my air travels. Thanks again Kelly!
Thanks for this upload :) We'll stick with our DJI Mavic Mini, it's a shame both do not have active track as I had this on my Air 1 and loved it!
I have a DJI Mavic Air 2 very happy with this drone should have bought it 3 drones ago I have owned it one year 600 flights with no problems (still learning) I would highly recommend it over the mini if $$ aren’t a issue and you don’t mind the up coming FAA regulations.
Nice comparison! But what about noise?
Hi. I would like to learn to fly drones from zero. Which is the right choice? Which has the less risky more pleasent learning experience. I would go for the Mini 2, but having all those sensors to avoid obstacles, the Air 2 is very attractive too!
Do you think dji will add the focus track as a software upgrade sometime in the future?
Just ordered Mini 2, I'd prefer the air 2 because if the video specs, but it's my first drone and this hopefully will be enough!
Pretty good. For me - Mavic Air2. Have a Fimi 2020 that flies great but the MA2 is definitely a step up for me. My 2 cents...
I also had a couple Fimi x8se2020 models(one grey one white/ lost the grey due to motor failure aka a bird impacted / or shot down never could be sure which) White one just flew better always with up too 100kbps bitrate where grey was problematic and around 70kbps. Sold the white x8se20 for a lightly used fly more Mini2 combo which definitely is a more capable drone in every way except wind (but not by as much as some would imagine really not bad at all very close) and some flight features. Have to purchase Litchi to get full potential out of the mini2. Very pleased with my decision, happy flying.
which of these two drone is good for basketball videos only ?
Hi, I have air 1. Use it on my bike rides. Mainly on the top of mountains. Don’t use active track. Mini2 or air2?
Because feature and price and weight.
Heyhave already the mini 2. Chould ie get the aire 2 just for traking mode end for better video end photos end the asteroid mode. It's nessery to upgrade only for this option????
I got both, when I got the air 2 I realized how cool and good quality camera and fly capability is the mini 2
I have a mavic air 1, should I trade it in for a mavic mini 2?
the mini is 249 grams but does one have to add on the weight of anti collision light or leg extensions?
Mavric air 2 is the clear winner.the all around clear winner.i must say though I like my mavric 2 zoom.love that zoom feature .the only problem there as far as I could figure out zoom feature only works at the greatest distance at 1080 p and also pictures don't work at optimal digital zoom.either just half way on the bar...note you never mention the zoom feature on either drone.which I feel is important.interesting vid though ill stick with my mavrick 2 zoom and my evo and my many others.
I have an question, coulnd't find it online. My 1st drone the mavic pro. In the quickshots (in for example "circle") I was able to change the radius and altitude. Do the air 2 and mini 2 have the same options?
Don't let the size or weight difference make a difference carrying eather you'll not notice a difference . The air 2 beats the mini 2 hands down in everyway. I've got both and the nav pro. Only drone I reach for now is my air 2. For the money its probably best on the market 👌
My biggest necessity is the obstacle avoidance
Just a small correction. Mavic Air 2 only US versions have AIRSENSE. I prefer MA2 based on the extra sensors and APAS 2, and love the HYPERLAPSE and Focus track. If the Mini 2 was out when I recently purchased my MA2 I would have still gone with the MA2
Right @ 11:49 the Video focus went haywire. i thought at first it was because you were talking about the focus of the Mini at the time..lol
what's the best anti collision lights for Air 2??
Excellent comparison video Kelly!! Since I'm into railroad photography, MA 2 would be my choice
hi can i fly the mini2 with the smart controler john nottingham uk
All you get in the fly more combo is 2 more batteries and a case with the mini 2. If money is tight get the $450 drone and buy an extra battery for $55 or if you have a Mini 1 battery those work also. Honesty the fly more being a $150 more is a little steep as you could buy 3 more batteries (4 total) for the same price.
I live in Sputh Africa, so I don't have to register any drone, I am just restricted to fly in a place that is about 100 metres away from anything.
My Air 2 case doesn't have the handle on the side
The thing is i live in israil i think the country also has to do with the distance
Thank you for comparing. But I think some features don't have so much difference to have a winner. For example, Flight time - the difference in 3 minutes (in real life 1-2 minutes) is not difference at all.
For me Mini 2 is the winner, because you can take it anywhere and anytime. Air2 is to big for this option, you should always think before going somewhere, do you really wanna to fly there
can you use the same controller for both of these and if so does DJI sell just a drone without a controller?
As of the new update, you can.
Mini 2 in either case... or Mavic 2 Pro for better image quality at darkness!
Does anyone know about the nd filters. DJI says that it doesn't support nd filters but that is pretty important for me. If anyone knows more information about that please let me know.
The gimbal on the Air 2 also moves left and right, I don't believe the Mini 2 has that ability. Thought that was worth mentioning.
Great video but I wouldn’t agree the mini 2 is tied with air 2 on video transmission, because if you read carefully on DJI’s spec page. The air 2 has a dual band occusync 2 system switching between 2.4 and 5.8 automatically, 1080p 30fps 40mbps bitrate transmission compare to mini2’s single band 720p 30 fps 8 mbps bitrate transmission. Not to mention the mini 2 also has higher latency compare to air 2’s osccusync. So I would say the mini 2 really is having a occusync 1.5 rather than occusync 2.0
Does the Fly App allow for live streaming from both these drones?
I have not tried to live stream using the Fly App. If you try it, please let me know if it works.
Can you use the mavic mini 2 together with the dji goggles/thanks!
This is possible, yes!
Going to watch your Comparison Video then comment after i have viewed it...
Thanks Bob. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please excuse the part that was out of focus. My camera was acting up!
@@readysetdrone I noticed it but knew you were to far in for a do over hehehe...It turned out great Kelly
Mini and mini 2 are best for practicing ....air 2 is beast 👍
Excellent video, Kelly. I hope Santa brings me the Mini 2😂😎
Definitely Mavic Air 2 . The price is nearly same , obstacle avoidance, and much much more packed in the Mavic Air 2 .... DJI is killing the industry... in a good way. .... I AGREE 💯 %!!! Whatever u get ... save your money and get the fly more combo for any drone
Price is double, not the same.
MA2 is the best buy...
I was stuck on the very same dilemma and after two weeks of reading and watching reviews i decided on the Mini-2 .. The two reasons i went with the Mini-2 was cost and weight .. i don't like having the government in my business.. As a hobbyists i don't feel big brother needs to know what i do for fun having to register a drone is nothing more then a invasion of my privacy...
Hi, what about range?
Its all the same
A great number of DJI customers like me have purchased DJI goggles at great expense.
Yet when video reviews on new DJI drones are made seem like no one ever talks about goggle comparability.
“NOT” having a new drone support the goggles could be a “Game Changer” on Buying the Drone. I know it is for me!
I just picked up an Air 2 with its ability to overcome strong wind being the primary reason for the choice. I live along a very windy beach on the pacific so that was a very important to me. The increased wind resistance of the Mini 2 may turn out to be perfectly sufficient, but I'd rather let other people be the guinea pigs who test that first. My secondary reason was the 4K video at 60 FPS as that allows for easy slow motion shots. And finally the tertiary reason was that it will likely be a while before the Mini 2 is available here in Peru and with covid it'll likely be another six months before I make another trip to the US. Waiting for a drone that is really my second choice didn't seem like the way to go, even if it would save a bunch of $$. Now I just hope that the *#!%ing seagulls that keep flying close to "inspect" my drone don't attack it.
I have dji mini 2 should I upgrade to dji mavic air 2?
I e have the same question??
If you step out of the room and leave those two drones in that thumbnail configuration you might just get a third option.
Im new to drones i have the mini mavik .does the mavik air 2vhave longer flight distance
Yes definitely
It has OcuSync 2.0 so in perfect conditions the flight distance is up to 10 km
Mavic mini uses wifi signals and has less range. The new mini 2 uses the same occusync 2.0 and has the same range of mavic air 2.
Correction.
You said both have the same pixel count of 12 megapixels each.
But the Mavic Air 2 has a '48' megapixel camera, not just 12.
They do both have a 12mp sensor. The MA2 just has a Quad Bayer filter, which technically makes it a 48mp camera. In practice though it is just better to use the camera not in 48mp mode.
I think a fare comparison could be Mini 2 vs Spark? is worthy the upgrade?
I hope the Mini 2 is compatible with the Smart Controller. I'll totally use it with my M2P and MA2
