  • In the early morning of 20 July 1837, Victoria found out she was Queen. Just a few hours later, she met with her Privy Council in the Red Saloon at Kensington Palace and signed her first document as a monarch, an Oath of Allegiance to the Church of Scotland.
    This document is now on display at Kensington, on loan from The National Archives for our exhibition, 'Victoria: A Royal Childhood'.
    Learn more about this document and Victoria’s first morning as Queen from experts Claudia Williams from Historic Royal Palaces and Victoria Iglikowski from the National Archives. 👑 #Victoria200

    I can't imagine what it would be like to become a monarch at the age of 18. That's pretty mind-blowing.

    Queen Victoria. ..always one the my favorite queens ..fascinating untelligent young woman and became a outspoken leader of her country with her beloved prince by her side

      I would say she was young in chronological age. Wise beyond her years, definitely NOT unintelligent. She was intelligent, talented, decisive, intelligent. She always was like that, she was simply so controlled, she had to restrain it. A person, female or male, doesn't become intelligent overnight simply because they become king or queen.

    She wore a black dress when she met with the privy council that morning. She said in her diary that she did not like that the famous portrait showed her dressed in white... I wish they would put her in her black dress in the model on the table... She deserves to be shown accurately...

    In 2031, Prince George could become king at age 18 - the same age as Queen Victoria.

      William or George or Charlotte would be much better than Chump Charlie. Queen Elizabeth has such strong character, she had it even before becoming queen. Chump Charlie? No. Not even close.

    Whatever her relationship was with her mother, her mother prepared Victoria for her role as queen. "The Kensington System" may seem to have been excessive, yet, there were many power hungry people who saw murdering a little girl as nothing, to advance themselves in line to the throne.

    On 28 June 1893 Queen Victoria unveiled a sculpture of herself in Coronation Robes, in the gardens of Kensington Palace, which was erected to commemorate her Golden Jubilee. People are often unaware that the sculptor was indeed her daughter, Princess Louise. I would love to see a special about her artistic daughter and the story behind the grand sculpture.

    Photo Prince Philip/1976...at the pony's. The chap on the left looks like my husband. Somebody else said that I look like Queen Victoria. Our K9 looks like the white dog in a photo of Abdul & Queen Victoria. Actually, Queen Victoria had nearly 100 dog's in the Palace Kennel's. Remember that this was in the 1800's. Search Abdul & Queen Victoria and the white dog and you will find the picture of them & the white dog at their feet. It's absolutely amazing. A Life In Secrets about the missing British Intelligence Agent's of WWII isn't just a book. We've been asked if the personal photos we have of some of the missing British Intelligence Agent's came with the book. No, that's why they are personal photos.

    What was the present monarch's response to the current exhibition? Does or did HMQE II have any anecdotes that has come down through the family that could add to the information you already know about that auspicious day, in 1837?
    Too bad there were so many diaries destroyed by Beatrice after her mother's death. For someone that was so 'religious' about keeping a diary over so many years of her life it still sounds like a 'fish' story to me that QV would have given orders to anybody to destroy her writings. Always did sound to me like a story coming from an angry daughter rather, than a cautious mother. No offense to those that think otherwise. This is just my opinion.

    I have no admiration for her. She had no compassion for her subjects that lived in squalor and misery or for the victims of thr Potato Famine. However she was full of self pity when Albert died

    • @davesanders5426
      @davesanders5426 Год назад

      Rubbish. She deeply cared for and worked hard for her subjects. When Albert died she was overwhelmed because he summarized documents for her, and she didn’t know how to understand the overtechnical wording of laws and bills and take action. Grief compounded it. You have to understand as a good woman she was supposed to defer to her Lord and Husband for technical matters, a role she played faithfully for the stability of England and its people, so faithfully she was helpless when he died.
