its not that uncommon to have safety and fire written on western guns actually. or just safe, but the character on the gun means safe and safety at the same time.
well, safe and fire is not really most precise is it? the words "fire" and "safe" are not firearm specific or anything. And i think the kanji can also mean threat if i am not completly mistaken.
well, I guess it's just a western point of view. Who knows how those would be called if firearms were first introduced in Asia (I mean modern type firearms needing said markings).
Imagine someone pulling this beast in a heated bar argument. "We're sorry, you are right. We were wrong, the bartender was wrong, and even the stripper in the bar across the street was wrong."
Interesting design I've never seen anything like it, reminds me of the triple barreled pistol from Killzone, something I'd love to see make an appearance on this channel someday is the .700 Nitro (thr double barrel rifle) mainly because of the round that monster takes, plus I loved using it in Far Cry 4.
Oh god "or maybe you are making a Sci-fi movie and need an excellent firearms propp" that really gave me a good laugh. Maybe Chef Exellent can endorse the Type 90.
Perhaps it's just me, but in my head I saw a Quentin Tarentino movie featuring that gun....or maybe just Samuel L Jackson with a tri-barreled shotgun pistol.
"But why would it be Type 90 if 90 was the year?" Exact same reason we have Model 1911, Model 1919, et cetera. Type is a broad term caught from translation. Frankly, "model" also implies the same thing. "Designation" would work better.
That was bound to happen. Algorithms being what they are, repeatingly invoking the name of our Lord and Saviour among the excellent comments of this excellent channel will bring upon us this sort of advertisement. if you're only picking one color or another of flare, won't the spring loaded ejector kind of screw you up by kicking out the unfired flares? or does it only just push the flare out enough that you can pull it out, rather than fully ejecting?
right! thats what figured but not a 100% sure, ty for the legal status of them btw! ya one the main things i noticed it is a weaker steel used or a pacific use of cartridge.. its rare ive heard where there was some that was made to firer both, but i dont believe that shit though, like you kinda said, it breaks in to some serious laws.. ty for the info to btw!! but now i got proof case a idiot says you can
I see this chambered in .410/.45 longcolt..... two .410s on bottom and the .45 long on top. This with an all three fire at once ability marketed as a Alaskan/Russian bear spray.
Laird Cummings I, uh, don't know why I didn't think of that. Makes total sense. Ah well at least I get minty fresh content while I make my coffee in the morning!
No, YKK is former Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikigaisha. They have been producing zippers and such since the 30's. This flare gun is made by the company that is now KYB, formerly Kayaba Kogyo Kabushikigaisha. However at the time this gun was made, I believe they were still Kayaba Seisakusho. These days Kayaba make industrial machinery, auto and train parts, hydraulics, shock absorbers and such. Back during the war however, they were working on a tailless ramjet fighter plane, codenamed Katsuwodori (Gannet) aka the HK or Ku. They got through a few prototypes, one of which ran on a de Havilland Gipsy IIIA engine, but most of them went down due to Pilot error or other factors. Eventually, with the war situation deteriorating, Japan gained technical info on the German Me-163, and started working towards adopting the Mitsubishi J8M1, so the Kastuwodori project was dropped. They continued working on a ramjet engine, but the war ended before completion.
Steam Punk, totally. That would have been a cooler replicant killing pistol for Deckert in Bladerunner, as replicants were supposed to be super tough so having to use mini grenade-bullets to kill them would make sense. Much better than the Steyr Mannlicher receiver mash-up prop they used. As a gun guy, it just looked stupid.
Neat little flare pistol, although I think that simply loading differently colored flares into a single barrel is going to be more efficient in the long run in regards to the amount of materials needed to make a single barrel flare pistol than a triple barrel flare pistol.
As an example, on approach to their airfield the Luftwaffe would fire a 2 flare sequence to indicate that they were friendly (to stop your own flak firing at you). Much faster to have a double barreled gun than to fire one and then fish around in your flare ammo legband for the next colour and reload.
The Japanese didnt have an Airforce prior to or during WW2, unless He is just using Airforce as a generic term for their war planes. the air power was largely handled by the Navy.
That recoil system looks like it would catch your hand quite severely! I wouldn't want to fire that without gloves on at least! Also does this take shotgun rounds lol it looks like the ultimate home defense weapon (kidding)

WHat sort of considerations go into flare size? I'd have thought that navy would want larger (brighter?) flares since they're working over much larger distances than the army, but then I realised that at sea there's very little to get in the way of the light.
Maybe having to carry around the rounds for flares. I can only guess, but the Navy soldiers don't carry as much stuff for combat so prefer things smaller, whereas the Army soldiers are used to carrying lots of stuff so having bigger flares is okay.

That recoil mitigation system reminds me of the Webley-Fosbery. Now I want a Nambu-Fosbery with a type 26.
I'm sure the recoil system is why this lacks a bayonet.

There is special bayonet you put inside the top barrel.

I could see one of these converted to shotgun shells with devastating close-range effect.

Japanese you say? Where do I put the bayonet?
since not on the gun, maybe on the helmet
It's not a real gun so it would have to mount a naginata from the bottom of the pistol grip.

Mike P Tbh, anything that has significant mass is a weapon once you propel it hard enough
Lars Snedecker yeah but what does a flare do if it hits you does it like burn you?
