We've really gotten to know our 7.3L. After 20+ years it needs a little touch of work here and there. We appreciate being able to do the work and maintain this good, old truck. Thanks for watching.
Was a great video. Y’all are like my wife and I. Except she just sits there with a beer and or handing me one. Anyway it was helpful , music was fine , ha. Let me know there is more to it and tackle it during the day instead of jumping into it tonight. I have to take it off to measure the inner diameter and then go buy the correct one, there’s like 5 different ones. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated
It's NEVER as easy as you think or watch in other videos. I was remvoing my hydroboost system and in every video I watched you undid the 4 bolts and it popped right out. I had to use a prybar on mine 🙄. Turns out one of the bolts was bent, making it impossible to gently slide it out like in every other video.
We didn't have the correct Puller....so we rigged 2 (too small) we had together. That wasn't ideal & it wasn't easy, but we finally got it. You can acquire a puller tool that works (is the right size). Here's a link to a picture of such a tool: www.peachparts.com/diy/w123driveshaftsupportbearing/10.jpg I've also heard some people cut the old one off using a cutting wheel/grinder. I'm sorry I don't remember the size of the pipe & I'm not where I can access it to measure. We went to Home Depot & found a short length that worked.
Hope you marked your yoke too yoke. They are balanced. And for those who are going to jump in and say BS...read the Ford service manual, not your local repair shop book. Needs to go back in same clocking it was removed in.
I replaced 3 weeks ago and truck still sacking like crazy every time I celerate though was trans but never marked the shaft when I take it out ...how can I fix the problem buddy thanks
Thanks. Sometimes I use music....other times not. I'm sure you know the saying about pleasing everyone all the time..... ;-) Feedback is useful and I take it to mind and it HAS helped me to get better at creating videos. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Have a good one!
Great Job! BTW...I'm thinking you had trouble unbolting the driveshaft, cause' Ford uses green loctite the on driveshaft bolts. A torch is almost always needed! If you order the yoke bolts from a Ford dealer, they come with a strip of hardened loctite on the threads, which makes them just as hard to go on as they are to come off! $ .02 ;-)
Ahh yes. The trials and tribulations of bolts - taking them out and putting them in. We've needed to use a torch many times......real fun is when they break off.
We used a bunch of cobbled together things. I think what we used was some Harbor Freight puller parts...not intended for this job & we went to Home Depot & got a short length of pipe the right diameter paired with a hammer to drive it back in. We do a lot of Macgivering I guess you could say.
That's a good idea if the u joints are ready. At the time of this video ours were still in good shape. We got 4 more years & a lotta miles out of them..JUST posted a video on Dec. 12th in which we did replace them. Appreciate you being here! Sandra
Dave grew up in Two Rivers, Wisconsin....he knows all about vehicle cancer! He recalls when he was young, some of his vehicles had holes in the floor board and it was drafty in winter. There are houses for sale in TX like oats. Price varies wildly depending on where. Really economical in some parts of the state....the hot spots like around Austin...Waco...Dallas....much more $$ & prop. tax. But relatively a lot less than I saw up north. For instance: We owned a house in Wisconsin that was on a lot barely big enough for the 1920s house and our taxes in 1999 were higher than our property tax today for our 2011 built house on 6 acres. But like everywhere: it's always going up.
No. But you need to make sure it is clocked correctly.....we made a mark on our parts so we could align everything back to the way it was prior to disassembly.
Adding the music is a lot more work.....sometimes I do it....other times not. I think it's usually a positive....which is why I make use of it. Some people like it - frequently get positive comments on it....maybe others do not. Can't please everyone all the time with everything. But feedback always welcome....and thanks for watching! :)
I'm bummed to tell you we don't recall and we're out of the country now. Pipe is in shed in TX. We're planning the videos better to show all our "tools" and what they are but in this one, we missed that detail. I think we had the new bearing part in hand and we took it to Home Depot to match up with the right pipe.
If you're talking about the splines, ours just came apart. Make sure there's no clamp.....ours was already broken and spinning loose around the drive shaft. Sometimes gunk can build up enough to stop it coming apart. Make sure it's cleaned off....then put it in a vise and start pulling it back and forth SLOW. Make sure you put a mark on it so you get it clocked right when you put it back together!!!
Gotta love Ford's designers liberal use of out of the ordinary sized and types of fasteners...like a goddam torx bit holding the rear u-joint onto the yoke. Oh well, hey at least I finally get to knock the dust off my 16 and 18 mm sockets.....so I got that going for me, along with a brand new T-45 torx bit socket!
Why do people call it a carrier bearing? Its has nothing to do with your carrier... How about a Driveshaft center support bearing. I mean I'm not a one of the Pep boys but isn't your carrier attached to your rear differential.
Hi - if you're talking about Dave, he's in continuous pain - 24/7. He broke his back in 1999....after several surgeries and lots of different "treatments", the problems associated with that injury have steadily increased. He has chronic pain and even light exertion brings exaggerated fatigue. There are always breaks during the work he does that you don't see in the videos....he has to go sit down and rest a lot. Thanks for watching.
You both make a great mechanical repair team! Take Care
Thanks for stopping by.
No music needed other than that great video
Thank you for watching.
They're replacing the carrier bearing on my 01 f350 tomorrow with almost 500k on it. Cool vid. Cooler wife.

@@SandraBegotka Is that truck an originally owed by you? No other owners? Did you replace all of the U-joints?
Your wife's a keeper Dave
i guess it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream new series online?
I have been spraying my u joint bolts on my 250 with PB BLASTER for 2 weeks just praying I will be able to get them out !
Those bolts in the rear are 12mm. You have to use a 12-point socket or else you will round them off
You guys make a great team , That;s a hard job just finished mine also a 2000.Good job...
Thanks 👍 We DO make a good team and we certainly appreciate the value of that.
Great job Dave! better to replace now then when you are on the road man
Nice looking 2000. Wish my 07' F350 looked that nice; unfortunately I'm up in the MidWest. I wash it after every snow storm but still.
Sandra & Dave WI is where I’m from. I’ll keep that in mind when looking for another truck.
Great lady you got there.
To many kids making repair videos nice to see post mid life crisis guy fixing with wife.
I thought it was just my life that everything fights back all day long

Yes. We found out we needed to bring the old one into the store to make sure we got the right replacement. Thanks for watching.
What size pipe did y’all use

Truth.
Good job
Thanks
What how did you get the bearing off?
What size pipe did you use to put the new one on?

Dave's got skills.
I agree. Thanks - Sandra
Good video. i too could do without the music but it doesnt take away from the overall video for me. Excellent

Would’ve been helpful and nice to know what size you needed or used.
What size reference are you referring to?
@@SandraBegotkathe pipe and puller
Jesus this just happened to me today. Along with the power steering forming a leak.
Next time just use a grinder to cut the baring out if u dont got a big enough pullers
Wouldve been better had we had seen what you did, and how
Did I miss the part number for the boot that goes over the splines?
www.amazon.com/Ford-F81Z-4421-CA-BOOT/dp/B000O0KJP2
Pretty sure this is the one....
Your wife is great.
Do you have a number for the puller kit and bearing driver you used by chance?
We used a bunch of cobbled together things. I think what we used was some Harbor Freight puller parts...not intended for this job & we went to Home Depot & got a short length of pipe the right diameter paired with a hammer to drive it back in. We do a lot of Macgivering I guess you could say.

I want to be like that with my girl when i get older
Since the drive shaft is out.. REPLACE THE U JOINTS.

You completely DIDN’T show removing the old bearing or installing the new one …. that’s the most important part of watching this video, jeez
Would have been amazing without the music. Great video though.
Now that's a real woman 👍
As an Ohioan... gazing upon your rust free "texas truck.." version of my daily driver.. screw you

How big of a puller is needed
We still have the puller we used....but I don't know the precise size. Will have to get back to you.
If the splined part is too long cut it with a torch. (make sure to let cool before continuing; safety first)...
What size of puller did you use?
So the drive shaft it self don’t go bad it’s just the bearing and u joint ?
Well.....the drive shaft can be damaged...bent, etc. But, yes..... most of the time it is simply a matter of worn out bearings or joint.
Adventures of Sandra & Dave thanks . Did you have to balance your drive shaft afterwards?
No. But you need to make sure it is clocked correctly.....we made a mark on our parts so we could align everything back to the way it was prior to disassembly.
As always interesting video but the music?

You should have left out the Elevator music
Hand the torch to him with flame pointing away from him, not toward him. Could have burned him bad.
Hi - You can't see it in the video very well...but before I hand it over I did turn it away from him. Thanks for watching.
Having some trouble separating the two halves of the driveshaft. How did you do it?

Audio blows, get a better & mic if you plan on making more.
slow down moving shots you pan too quickly..please

because it's a shaft carrier? i've also heard it called a hanger bearing.
