It's Lois here today, join me for a really simple impressionistic MISTY evening walk with the dog on the South Downs. It is a really simple landscape that was so much fun to paint! Using the wet in wet method and the old paint left on my palette before cleaning it, you can paint some really wonderful landscapes by just letting the paint and water flow together and seeing what happens. The trick is to look for any opportunities to turn particular marks into landscape features, and learn to exploit those opportunities to the full. This can take a bit of practice, but it is a wonderful way to loosen up, take the pressure off yourself and have fun! Its a great way to not waste old paint and to learn about how beautiful neutrals can be.
Materials: Millford 140lb/300gsm cold pressed watercolour paper, 11" by 15"/28cms x 38cms. It is taped to my board and my board is at an angle of about 45 degrees, or flat, or I can tip and tilt it to get the water to flow. I use ordinary fine table salt for effects and a water mister spray. I use various brushes as shown in the demo, but use any similar ones you have. The old colours on my palette were paynes grey, prussian blue, burnt umber, raw and burnt sienna, but any mixture of colours will produce different but interesting results with a bit of trial and error!

In the wise words of the lovely L. Davidson, "something and nothing". It's all there for the viewer. but there's no specific image to grasp at. So clever, yet so simple. Just love it.
Listening in with headphones on. The difference as astonishing. I forgot I still had them on. (Nice and comfy).
Once again sweet lady, I thank you for showing us yours. (play on word is on purpose... Courtesy of Carryon humour).
Be well, and be blessed. TTFN

Lovely! I have used salt before, with varying degrees of success. Thank you for explaining that the paint must not be too wet or to dry for the technique to work well.

Everytime I watch you (or Morgaine) painting, it gives me the vibes to paint along. The problem is most of the times I watch your video at work, either during the lunchbreak or putting your video into floating player in my computer so I can both work and listen to your explanation (*and peek to the floating video), haha. Oh Goddd, I can't describe how I'm so deep in love with your videos! Good luck on you two and all people reading this! ✨🤍

I love this, I have trouble with the little people. I keep watching other people do a few dots and a swipe and they have a person with movement.
I do the same and I've got a deformed demon with a huge foot for example hahahaha

Thank you for the ideas in this video. I’m a beginner watercolorist and am often torn as to whether or not to use/clean out my palette. I would use some leftover paint for flowers or something abstract, but never thought of going with a neutral mix. This is a wonderful exercise, and your misty walk painting is absolutely lovely!
