I'm surprised how poorly this device is made. Our joycons failed in no time, ribbon cables bent
My 3ds still works fine while my Joycons are broken after 3 years...
@@SJGaming64 3 years? Thats too much for joycon standards lol
@@normanselva6397 give em 6 months
My left joycon after a year
@@normanselva6397 my joycons now stopped working after 6 years
Just used your video to fix this exact issue on my sons switch. Thank you so much, I wouldn't have tackled it without watching your video. Love to see this sort of content on RUclips, keep up the good work!
Now i can play 2 player mode again with my mom and my brother, thank you
you hs
everyone gangsta till you and your brother fight for the joycon
Great instructions, i've never had experience with flex/ribbon cables but this guide made it very easy!
Pff. What an amazing explanation. I was able to buy all the screws and parts just after I have watched this video. I have fixed both of the joy-cons in half an hour. Amazing ! Thanks. You saved me from spending another 70 euros on another pair of Joy-Cons. It costed me 13 Euros the whole stuff that I had to buy :). Thaaaaanks !
I ended up not having to buy the part. I just opened it up and unscrewed the sl/sr cable from the rail. I then left it to out for a while just to chill. I clean it up with a small cloth as well. After it’s had a good time I put it all back together.
It might not make the most sense, but sometimes the contact buttons just needs some time to breath.
Anyone else try this and make it work without buying anything?
@@Matthew0650 imma try when I buy the screwdriver. Hopefully next week or two.
Eh I tried to bend it to the other side and I snapped it in half so ill just the the part lol
Haven’t had the issue but figured I would watch anyway.
Very detailed, I like that you point out when you use a specific type of screwdriver and such. Also pointing out the screws. You’ve earned a sub, keep it up!
Beautiful! You have saved my right red joycon sir! Thank you very much for uploading this!!
I was able to return mine to functionality by using a tiny piece of tape to tape the crease in the ribbon cable flat and then closing the unit up with a new crease. This is a massive design flaw but at least it's fixable.
Bout to electrocute myself with this one 🔥🔥🔥 If this works, thx alot!
NNash fuk you bro i literally broke mu entier joyycon thianks to ur "advice" retard
So you just made the original crease flat with tape and then made a new one? Which tape did you use? Thanks :)
I recently dropped my switch on a hard concrete floor. Thankfully (or so I thought) it was fine. It was until yesterday when I booted up Mario Kart for a 2 player race with two joycons that I noticed my right joycon's SL button wouldn't respond. Well, that kinda ruined my date. Hopefully this works though.
Same thing happened to me
Not the date though 😂
@Ahmed Bsmp anyone knows how to fix that?
Same button bad Nintendo joy cons
Super helpful! We were able to get our joycon repaired with the recommended part and guidance. Thx!!
I also used your video to fix that exact issue. Worked like a charm. Thank you very much!
Thanks for the explanation! I didn't go & get a replacement part as what the video taught. BECAUSE : After I used a small card & taped it behind the crease for it to become flat again, it worked! 😎💕✨
Would you mind explaining how you did it? I'd rather not have to replace the cables at all if possible
Thanks for the video, I had a slight problem when putting it back together, I had nudged a power cord loose, but tapped it back and everything is working great.
looks like its a very common problem. I dont even know why it happened to my right joycon
It happend to both of mine😢 I’m just going to buy a new switch and give my old one to my sister
ok hf
It happens because the ribbon cable gets pinched inside, which causes tears. Happened to both, it's not a reason to buy a new switch or Joycons though. Just replace the part, it's easy, don't worry
Thank you for this video! This was really super helpful - have just managed to get my green Joy Con working again!
Me too!
Worked like a charm, thank you very much!
As a comment, at times we cannot see what you're doing, maybe you should consider reloading with the camera a bit more to the side
Fixed the problem thanks to you! Thanks man!
are the replacement ribbons side exclusive? do I need to specifically order for the right side or the same cable works either way?
I'm just problem with my switch everytime I play it I don't press the zl
It controls byself and plays it by itself
Thanks so much. Fixed my joy stick following this guide. Only took me 2 dollars to fix 😁
Thanks so much for this video, worked like a charm!
Thanks so much for the video! Fixed my right controller thanks to you!
When i lifted up the tab at 4:10 the whole black thing came out, is there some way to attach it back or use a replacement part? I am currently fixing the right joycon btw.
Thanks for the video! Went to play mario kart at the weekend and noticed 2 of my 4 (coincidentally the 2 that came with the switch, day one) had no lights nor did the SL and SR buttons work.
So I've now tried the left joy con. The light is lighting up, but the buttons do not work still. Not sure if I've overtightened the screws or not plugged the ribbon in fully? But I've took it out a few times and tried. Still the same. With it being synced already, I'm not sure if the sync button works or not yet.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
If you have trouble connecting you could always go to settings and change the button mapping if you need a way to connect your controller without sr and sl
oh really? thx. im afraid that i might destroy something inside so im stuck having only one joycons. Ill try this. thx a lot man.
Hey thanks for the video, it really helped alot!
Thanks!!! U assisted me well!!
Great video. I just fixed my joy con with your help 👍
Awesome. Thanks for your help. Really cool video.
Me: Oh it’s probably just going to be a joy con update!
The video:
Nah
doesn't work
Wdym
The joy con update wasn’t meant to be a tutorial
Great vid. I used tape to straighten out the crease smh they both work fine
Just tried to open up and true enough it’s the cable issue. Just went to find online for the replacement part but they have sl and sr? So should be for sr if I am getting for the right side? Thanks for the detailed video.
Finally! Thank you so much! :D
Where did you buy the replacements parts ?
Does the repleaced part matter ? I mean like left part ans right part repleacments .If yes pleasee let me know since my both controllers are destroyed . Sorry for taking your time's
really good video, worked for me,thanks !
Thanks a lot! I got the kit from Shopee (the 2 parts + 2 new thumbpads + the necessary screwdrivers for about $10) and everything went according to plan. My 2 joycons are now fixed and multiplayer is back on! Cheers
Thanks Mate, saved me struggling to figure it out , Managed to fix my kids joycon, so i'm in her good books now :)
Thank you! Finally my joycon work again!
Thank you! It worked wonders!
I have this problem to but amazon replaced mine 😤
@Gordon Hyppolite some come with like this
Thank you very much, this was a easy fix
Thanks, worked perfectly
thank you so much! you explained it good
thanks very much, clear tutorial super helpful! $60 error turned $5 fix ^^
Thank you so much. Just ordered everything I need to replace mine. I got 5 pairs of joycons to do tho
I also found the really tiny screen that seem easy to lose
My SL stop working but also my lights in left joycon too it's same problem?
Why did you recommend to open the ribbon connector while the battery was still on top?! Just wrecked my connection because of this
Thank u and i fixed it without replacement i bend it and squeeze it between the two parts and it still works!
can you explain what you did? i dont get it
Thank You so much for this!!
thank you so much, worked perfectly!
Had the same issue with my right JoyCon. I was shocked when the screws weren‘t at the same place as in your... oh nvm! You just said it 😜 thanks mate!! It worked!
Thanks, now I know what happened to my joy cons
Perfect. Thank you so much
Thank you was the perfect fix I didn’t have the right sized screw drivers but I made it work haha so relived
My left one started drifting not long after getting my switch.
Now the right one doesn't light up and the SL/SR buttons don't work.
I don't get it, I'm very careful with my stuff, so this sucks!
Damn, i actually noticed that the rail buttons of both joycons stopped working. Luckily it's an easier repair than the joystick, but i would have loved these things not to break as much.
Which one is right and which one is left, not sure which ones to order.
Daniel Nelson the right joy con has the + sign but left has -
Thx bro if it will fix your my hero
How to remove the greese? And just unbend the thing then it work?
Do u have anything easier
I am extremely careful with my switch, I mostly play handheld too. I got Mario maker 2 for Christmas today and I said "oh cool, they added multiplayer! Now my sister can play" didn't work... My SR button won't work, tried everything even a joycon reset. Nada. I'm not even going to try this, I guess I'll have to get a new remote... Sucks and on Christmas day too!
@@NoOne3728 wow I didn't know I had so much in common with Mickey Mouse! Lmao
@@NoOne3728 lmao that's my dog, idk why but I was bored and drew eyes on her
@@NoOne3728 OK thanks Mickey!
whatever you do, dont get a new joycon, the replacement cable is $10 and is extremely easy to replace
Hi! While i was doing this some black rubber oval piece fell out of my controller and i thought it was nothing until i figured out that my joy on wouldn’t connect to my switch at all, if anyone knows where this piece goes that would be great! Thank you.
My left joy con doesn't work, only the moving thingy works
I lifted the black connector of the ribbon cable and it came off, can’t get it back on 😪 think I’ve ruined it
We’re did you that screw driver
Thank you!
Guess my experience in my job gonna come in handy and also the sr sl replacement price is like $6 on amazon it’s dirt cheap
thanks man, managed to fix mine easily because of this vid. very helpful stating the exact tools needed also.
Thank you very much.
It's incredible that my 3 original joy con all suffer of this, plus drift, plus one extra joy con died! Worst controller ever, in less that two years all died, on the other hand I also have a rip off joy con pair for two years and they still work flawlessly, shame on you Nintendo!!
how to get a sl sr part?
Thank you
hey can i use the same sl sr buttons
or i have to buy new ones
This is really useful, but ima kid so i cannot do this on my own
same :(
Me to :(
I can
i took apart both of my joycons whole to put a clear shell on
im a kid too dude. i fix my joycons all the time, its pretty easy a 5 y/o could do it
My tab doesn't stay back down after I push it, fix?
I struggled with this, you really have to give the ribbon cable a shove so it slots into the docking part correctly before closing the flap
Did you rip it
At first I was wondering why you were using a dart 😂
We sent to nintendo for a repair the lights still don't work and can't play 2 player with them
Can anybody explain how this can happen?
Thank you helpful video
I swapped it SL still doesn’t work
What if, none of the buttons work at all and just suddenly broke?? The joystick moving around works but absolutely nothing else on the joycon will respond
Spray solution to Joycon drift fixed the problem for me.
Think there is a general issue of gunk getting inside joycons.
Mine wont charge either
Thank you so much you saved me
Mine had a bad ribbon cable, i managed to fix it though by folding the cable to a different angle. Just turn on the controller and test the buttons as you try to put it back together.
Is there an easier way?
Kailyn U no
Could I just open it up and undo the bend then put it back together? If not how much is the replacement? A link would be nice too. Great video tho!
Sadly not, as the problem will get worse, speaking with experience here. It stresses it too much
Replacements are easy enough to come by, want me to provide you with a link?
@@chiaraj1003 this comment was 1 year ago lol, already replaced by myself :) all working great
@@pumpkin8680 Ah, well, then that's awesome! (really should start looking at time stamps, whoops X'D)
Tried... but the little black clip that secures it in place pinged off so I have scrap now :(
Don't know if you ever found a solution, but I just used hot glue to secure the cable. It kinda works, but I think my replacement board is broken, the leds, sync button and power work again, which is nice because I couldn't even use it docked before, but sl/sr buttons still don't work.
I don’t have these things to fix my joy con since I’m a kid but thanks anyways :)
It really work!!!
Thank u ☺️
I was so happy when it lighted up.
then I was devastated when you said to buy a spare one 💀💀💀
THIS IS WHAT I NEED
ZL / ZR. Thanks for the video! Sorry I was wrong, it’s zl zr on switch lite which is what I have
This video won’t help if you have a Switch Lite
Yakarot Sennin that’s not true...
Duck Council Wait, DID this video actually help your with the Switch Lite? Did they use the same circuit?
Yakarot Sennin I was looking because I have other joycons
Duck Council Oh, lmao well that makes more sense then.
I need the whole thing my whole controller don’t work at all
This sucks I bought new joycons like 8 months ago and now this problem
You probably should just make a ticket with Nintendo and ship your joycons back to them so they can either fix it for you or just send perfectly new ones back it's also free because there was a lawsuit against them for that
... can nintendo do a recall? No seriously i have 4 joycons with this problem is the unactivity with is made it bent?the last time i used the joycons was like hm.... huh.... it came oit in 2017 i got 2 extra joycons >.> the flip 2 years? I gotta replace it? Rather not have it break that quick...and of the blue hey you should find a way to PREVENT THIS PLEASE!
The supersoldierstudio I had mine for around 4-5 months...
I'm starting to think its the things you slide on to them to prevent the joy cons flying out of your hands. Just don't use the strap things, and gently slide in the controllers to the switch
I thought my Switch was broken as 5 out of my 6 joy cons don’t work. I’ve taken them apart and they all have this problem!
My 4 joycons have this same issue.
Daniel Nelson Sounds like things were rushed at the manufacturing level.
