This song is so lovely but i get why they cut it. It’s a little too soft for the end of such an intense story. It’s almost like this is the song early Odysseus would have sung, while Would You Fall In Love With Me Again is what he sings after he’s been through all the hardship of his story.
It could be set before the challenge as one of Penelope’s dreams and then she wakes up- sings the challenge, and then she gets the REALITY of the reunion❤

While this is sweet, I can totally see why he replaced it with "Would You Fall In Love With Me Again". This just doesn't have the 'finale' feel, like everything has been building to it. Though I do wish "Would You Fall In Love With Me Again" ended with the line "I'd wait forever for you" instead of just "I love you". It's more specialized for these two, less generic.
Agreed sooo much. I loved loved loved would you fall in love with me again but "I loved you" didn't quite fill the harmonies. While "I've waited for you" would be so impactful, as it was a recurring motif in all sagas.
As much as I love Would you fall in love with me again, and is a Banger for the Brides entrance on a wedding, Olive tree is the perfect song for the first dance on the wedding party

I love that Penelope sings "Odysseus" at 2:32 similar to how we've heard him sing "Penelope" throughout all of epic to show that she's been longing to see him just as much as he has been for her. It's a shame it was cut from the final ver. 😥
I was thinking that if they kept this and it becomes a stage musical and they had the young version of Odysseus and Penelope appear onstage with the old Penelope and Odysseus at the same time watching that, then they would have to have another actor play Young Odysseus. Then I realized, they could have the person playing Telemacus play Young Odysseus, and I know THIS song won't happen but what if they have the person playing Telemacus play Young Odysseus in Warrior of the Mind! And now I'm imagining Mico doing the Odysseus parts for WotM. Probably wont happen, but an interesting thought.
I love this song but I adore the version we got. It added a bit more agency to Penelope. Along with her test, it became a symbol of how she sees him for him _despite_ the monster he’s become, she loves him *for* the monster he’s become, which is perfect to show how he could never become a complete monster because of his love for his family. It fits a lot more with the themes despite this one being absolutely beautiful

Yeah, i kinda agree, this song is maybe a bit too focused on Odysseus convincing Penelope its really him, i really like this song since in the Odyssey, Odysseus is tested in the same way, he says that the bed cannot be moved since he carved the bed into the tree which he built their palace around, i feel like if this song made it in there had to be another one after for the reuniting, but im really excited for the Ithaca saga my gods

FRRR ur not alone dude. i love WYFILWMA (especially the orchestral rendition of just a man) but this is just so sweet??? most of the songs in epic have some sort of powerful orchestral belt or something with the ensemble, so something as homely and sweet as this would make a perfect closer imo

I prefer Olive Tree because it's a more beautiful love song, and it matches the original Odyssey a bit better. Also, I don't believe Odysseus really did anything wrong the whole musical, so I'm not a big fan of focusing on how he's now this unredeemable monster. No shade to anyone who disagrees, though. They're both great songs
@mogumogu1601 How could you genuinely believe Odysseus has done nothing wrong in the musical. Like either he was merciful at the begginning or too ruthless at the end. It can't be both or neither. Also I don't think Odysseus shown as an irredeemable monster in would you fall in love with me again considering penelope believes he's the same person he used to be. Also olive tree just doesn't address the main theme of the musical like at all.

Sacrifice men that betrayed him at every turn? They were 5 feet from Ithica, and Eurylochus couldn't stop himself from disobeying Oddyseus. He wanted to abandon the dozens of men on Circe's island to save his own skin, yet staged a mutiny when Odysseus sacrifice SIX men so the rest of them could get home. He killed Helios' cattle despite desperate pleas that it would turn out badly. I just don't understand what he did that was so wrong. Even up to Get In The Water, he was still on the side of mercy and forgiveness. He offered it to Poseidon. If Jorge wanted to portray him as a monster, he did a poor job of it by the end. Again, that is not to say I hate any part of Epic. I love this musical with my whole heart

Cut off the ending, and this would be a FANTASTIC flashback song, but it would have to go near the beginning of the musical. Maybe Odysseus remembering Penelope when he's still in Troy or during the Ocean saga. It's not nearly as good an ending song as WYFILWMA.
I thought that too, I think it being in a major key rather than a minor might mean it's a signal for calm, that or it just signifies that "the war came and it took him away"

The reason this was cut was that it didn’t really conclude the themes of the story, and was also a tad confusing in it setup
