- Get ready for a crowded Halloween weekend as Searchlight Pictures is set to finally release Antlers, their creature feature from director Scott Cooper and producer Guillermo del Toro, in theaters this coming Friday, October 29, 2021.
In Antlers, a small-town Oregon teacher (Keri Russell) and her brother (Jesse Plemons), the local sheriff, become entwined with a young student (Jeremy T. Thomas) harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences.
Based on the short story “The Quiet Boy” by Nick Antosca (“Channel Zero”), Antlers is written by Henry Chaisson and Antosca, with revisions by Cooper.
Bloody scored a clip from the film that’s absolutely vicious, in which a young boy appears to lead his bully to his ultimate demise.

The look on that bully's face when he realized he was in a horror movie & not a coming of age drama where his relentless torment of the protagonist would become essential for personal growth

We need more horror movies like this based on American Legends, a big budgeted bigfoot horror movie
Appropriating Native American folklore to make scary movies is a pretty shitty thing to do. The wendigo is an allegory and important learning tool for the Algonquin peoples. Not some cheap horror monster white Americans can "claim" as an "American legend" and milk for scares and profit.
This film should have stuck to the original short story it was based off of. Not only were the monsters in "The Quiet Boy" much scarier, they weren't even wendigos. They were more like Satanic monsters conjured through black magic.

In horror movies when a kid gets killed you know it's big deal, to show emphasis, grounding rawness that the monster or killer force in turn isn't playing and will annihilate anything and anyone that gets in its way.
I WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZED WITH THIS MOVIE
Frank Weaver is, in many ways, a terrible dad. But he truly seems to love his two sons. And when things begin to go, shall we say, wrong, He’s the one who originally puts those heavy locks on the door-telling Lucas to lock him in and to not open the door, no matter what he hears or how pitifully he pleads. Frank does his best to protect his boys from himself-even as his mind slowly twists into a place of everlasting craving.

you had me at Guillermo del Toro
No offense but Guillermo del Toro is still a virgin
in order to kill a wendigo? you gotta actually use a silver or silver coated weapon, Cut both the beasts head off and it's heart out, burn the body, Than get a clergy man or shaman to anoint and bless both the heart and head, Afterwords you must bury the head and heart separately on holy ground. You have killed the beast permanently but the Wendigo Curse will still be left unchecked if you do not bury the pieces? Otherwise the curse will just find another host if you do not Banish it. Least that's how I heard you have to kill a wendigo? Bullets do slow it down but you're still gonna need that silver. It's kinda like werewolf rules.
There are many different variations of how to kill them in many different myths. Although, I don't believe silver was one of the "true" ways as at the point in time, N.As probably weren't processing silver at all. Silver is more of a later European settler trope.
Too complicated.

They could’ve made this movie better if they deleted the scenes of the teacher contemplating buying alcohol, and added scenes of the wendigo running through the woods eating shit
As well as making the fight between multiple people not just the stupid teacher and a couple flailing arms
@@Jim-yk1ug frankly they could have just removed all the scenes about the lady's trauma, literally ANYONE could see there was something wrong with the boy without needing to have been raped by their father to see that.
in most monster fights there is at least a build up to the monsters death, what should have happened is that the teacher should have been chased through the cave while the windigo lurked in the dark and knocked her around a bit while she struggled to keep track of it, and then she could have been eventually thrown against a wall next to an iron rod and when the creature made it's big final charge at her she pulled the rod up and braced it against the wall and the creature could have impaled itself on it (possibly right through the heart)
a tad unoriginal? perhaps, but it would have been at least something...
not to mention this movie went out of it's way to basically say "no" to what you would expect...i thought for sure while the teacher was wasting time apologizing to the little boy and his brother while she prepared to kill the little brother that he would either fully turn and give us a nice round 2 or that the boy would stab her with that iron rod and let his brother eat her...guess other horror movies have ruined my expectations...

That moment you realize most bullies are subject to possibly worse conditions at home than their victims, and they lash out and torment weaker kids because they feel powerless and scared.
It is amazing how our society literally dehumanizes children because they are "mean." People watch a literal child get brutally murdered, and they laugh and clap and go to bed thinking they are decent humans because they don't like bullies.
This is not at all the case. Most bullies are just pieces of shit. It's actually far more unrealistic to assume that most of them are just misunderstood or tortured souls.
But I also agree with your last statement. It is fucked up to be clapping over a child being murdered. People really do forget that children have more room for growth than adults do. Hell, the bully in this scene could have redeemed and grew up to be his best friend.

The main problem I have with any of these types of shows that have kids being bullied for whatever reason is the kids are always walking in the last place they should be. Why are they always alone in the woods, or some back alley, and not out in public where it would be harder to get bullied? That seems like lazy writing to me.
Because people who are bullied tend to want to be left alone so they would walk alone in secluded places where their bullies or anyone who would bully them are less likely to be. It's not much harder to be bullied in public, that's where lots of bullying takes place most people don't care to interfere or lack the context to recognize what's really going on. i wouldn't call walking in the woods or back alley "the last place they should be" lots of people with high social anxiety deliberately choose to walk off the beaten path just to avoid having interactions with people. i'm not gonna say it's not tropey cause it is but tropes exist for a reason, it's not at all outside the realm of possibility and i don't think it's lazy writing i can think of much more tiresome tropes than this one

Those are the things that ruin horror movies. No one needs to have the monster explained to them, and don't have your weak school teacher protagonist beat the monster in a fight.
All they had to do was follow the short story accurately, and this movie would have been a gold rare gem of a horror film that actually good. Very disappointing.

Why would a short story be better than the actual legend of the wendigo? Which both are based off of, it's not a white man made supernatural creature.
@@dcalliou7 I think you missed my point. I agree with you if they actually DID a movie about the wendigo legend, but this isnt it. This movie is based on a short story which itself not once ever mentions what type of monster they were going for, which made it better than the film which needlessly has an expedition dumb, and a very shitty ending. The story was actually good, and didnt need to explain anything. The producers felt the need to shoehorn in a stupid lore dump and ruin any sense of horror or tension the film had.

The beating and humiliation that comes with it goes a thousand miles. Sometimes people change.

@@Lin_Eileen I am going based on what I see in movies and how it correlates with kids today. We are constantly portraying that bullies in general deserve death. If there is one thing humans respect is being on the receiving end of consequences involving force.

People should stop bullying, but that is like trying to prevent the sun from rising every morning. Its never going to happen. People do what they do. Id much rather see kids scrappin out their differences than shooting each other .
Dude...the bully himself was about 3-4 times bigger than the little kid.
I hate how slept on this movie is. This monster is big, intimidating, unknown, strong, and a native legend.
So the Antler protects the innocent 🤔
That's what I'm thinking
No not even close its main kids dad that wasn’t supposed to get out
Also ITS A WENDIGO not named antlers
No. Btw, it’s called a Wendigo. The movie is called Antlers because wendigos are usually depicted of having deer features such as antlers
No, that kid's survival instinct was just on point.
No, he's giving the kid special treatment because he's his kid.
This movie is based on a short story and it’s one of the creepiest stories I’ve ever read.
The ending was so obvious...but I guess ok
Bro summoned his Persona 💀
