- Irvine homeowner Al Schwartz shouts at an HOA representative in an attempt to prevent the association from removing bushes he has planted in his front yard. Video by Frank Mickadeit, The Orange County Register. Published on 2012-06-11
It’s not about the bushes,it’s about power.
Pretty much.
No, it's NOT about power; it's about violating certain rules you agreed to abide by when you purchased your home in the HOA. No one is forced at gunpoint to purchase a home in an HOA, and it's made pretty clear there are rules that govern the association. If nothing else, the HOA is a democracy and you can persuade your fellow owners to vote for a change in the rules, but you don't have the right to unilaterally violate those rules with impunity.
@@howardcihak9369 HOA is nothing about democracy. It's about power and controlling others to be just like they are. You can't be free or different in an HOA, everybody has to be like eachother like a dictatorship.

Since then I’ve been in some kind of violation every year since I moved in. I can’t do anything to the yard or house without permission. There’s a small dictatorship of people who rule over us and it’s all legal. US citizens seem to live under a shower of petty everyday restrictions.
Free... enough.
Drop the R. It's land of the fee. Sorry about being so negative.
grahvis, and where are you from shitbag?

steps closer to him immediately?
Why would anyone buy a home where you need their permission to do anything with your own property?
I've seen HOAs that tell people what color drapes and carpet they can have.
Im grown man, but I would totally paint the HOA houses and driveways in red during the night, literally. I'd also consistently pour poison on their lawns nightly (that's personal, bc I live in Charlotte on clay and dirt where my grass can't grow in some PATCHES, despite paying tons for companies to fix it and my surround neighbors can't grow certain patches either). I might add a few Santas on the lawn on January 1st so they can get a letter for that too. Then I would cite them for violations and be sure the board gave them a set amount of time to fix it or be in violation and fined. I wouldn't really do these things, but a man can dream can't he?
HOA is a deal killer when home shopping.
We need federal law limiting HOA powers, and establishing clear pathways to HOA dissolution
If his grass any taller you won’t be able to see the buushes
I looks like ground cover not grass
I wouldn't even consider buying a home in an HOA neighborhood. I just saw another video of an HOA trying to make a homeowner take down a ramp, a father built for his disabled son. The other video I saw was that you weren't permitted to walk your dog on a sidewalk, it had to be on the street. My advice is stay away from HOA's!
In certain cities, if there is a sidewalk available, they have ordinances against walking in the street. If the city that HOA is in has such an ordinance, the HOA is attempting to force its members to violate it. No surprise, if such is the case...
@@bobhoffman5581 Yes, it's incredible to the extremes of which they will go.
Well spoken gentleman, who indeed knows his "stuff" !
the HOA is not allowed to touch your property or even enter it without your permission, you are the homeowner, the HOA is simply a group of people that are supposed to be community elected that make sure your property is tidy and kept safe from outsiders or threats, nothing more nothing less. knowledge is power and people have little knowledge these days
Oh bird dung on second story wall, pay us.
I could not live in a HOA. The first time I said no and they did it anyway. Somebody’s getting hurt.
If the HOA comes to me when i bought my home..And i say i want no part of them. And they try to do whatvever they like.ill have them in court so fast their weezing little heads will spin. And afterwards ill have them disbanded and all those who madea mistake of pushing their luck will be taken to civil court. They are liable also.
For those of you who commented about never buying a house in a HOA, in Florida you can't purchase a newly constructed home without an HOA. Unless you build on your own lot that is not within an HOA. I am moving into my new home in two weeks. I hope I don't have to deal with this. Crossing my fingers.
Please accept my deepest condolences)
Stand your ground this will be a new stand-your-ground law stand up to the homeowners association cuz there had been me I'd knock that camera out of that guy's hands and run that b**** off
“I’m not screaming at you, if I was screaming at you, you’d know the difference.”
My dad would say that all the time to me
yelling and screaming are two different things. 🙂
I live in Australia and we do not seem to have HOA's like the US does. I am shocked at the level of control they seem to have over peoples homes. It is outrageous.
Moving into an HOA neighborhood, is like moving to Russia, why would anyone do it?
Kathleen Lock ...it’s like moving to *Soviet* Russia, comrade.
A lot of Americans have voted for a Russian agent (Trump), and still support him after he has been revealed.
More like North Korea.

Chilling!💀😔
My dad lived in a home with HOA and got fined for repainting the gutters that had flaking and missing paint and he used the left of paint that was used to paint the gutters prior to him purchasing the home, go figure ! SO they didnt have problem with cosmetic issue of missing paint on gutter but did with not getting permission to fix the cosmetic issue to exact same as original look.
Did that official permission come with having to pay a fee to THEM for you to paint YOUR property?
