The "HOAs" ARE thieves. They're writing down everything in those garages and handing it over to their partners in crime to steal. That's before the "HOA" makes up some ridiculous "violations" and racks up tens of thousands in "fines" on you so "HOA" mafia can steal your home too.
I'm in the same field, naturally I also agree with this HOA rule as well. It would be nice to see this rule implemented in a state with stricter gun control, this neighborhood is in Texas, so we could still be dealing with some work safety issues even with the removal of these unnecessary garage doors.
I’m 43 with diminishing prospects in life… I’d get some messed up sh!t to put in my garage if they pulled that nonsense with me Playboy pinups (Hustler is way too graphic… one could conceivably claim that PB centerfolds could hold some degree of artistic value… they wouldn’t be right but they could argue it, lol) Make some inexpensive makeshift BDSM contraptions… (large board with straps and chains and handcuffs) Mannequins set up in a Human Centipede display… A large homemade banner “Dear HOA, you literally asked to see this…” get a body pillow and put a pillowcase with a big ‘ol dong printed on it… What I store in my personal garage is my business… they can’t tell me what I can and cannot have *INSIDE* of my home, and since it’s their overreach mandate that’s opening my garage door, anything that happens to be in there is being seen because of them If they try to fine me, trespass in an attempt to remove anything from inside my garage or seek try and force me to sell to remove me, then I’ll sue the McSh!t out of the HOA When I win, I’ll distribute what’s left after legal fees and any taxes owed among the non-board residing residents My apologies would be in advance for my motion activated device that will play the sounds of various animals boning… it wouldn’t play if not for the fact that my garage door would be open 🤷🏼 Oh well, what am I supposed to do; I’m just following the rules of having my garage door open during the day
Nope, that’s called a co-op, where one only owns a percentage of the entire property and doesn’t actually own the unit they reside in. I live in a condo community, I own my unit, have the deed and can sell it. Luckily our HOA is pretty good and responsible. They are a little too quick to fine people without adhering to the established, documented reporting process. Board president’s sister lives in a unit he owns and she tattles directly to him on the residents and he fines them based on her word and not the proof that’s needs to be submitted. Utterly corrupt and disgusting. One neighbor was fined for snapping of some braches overhanging the steps that were a trip hazard. No real damage to the shrubs. Sister calls to report it. Neighbor is fines hundreds of dollars to cover removal and replacement of that shrub and the second one (to match) over some branches. Both are retired. The one isn’t strong enough to completely destroy a shrub and the other spies on everyone all day long 🙄
@@Blondie77128ill stick with the co-op. No selling, rent to yourself, use extra money for your own amenities, and maintenance, no petty fee gouging as the purpose isn't asset appreciation, it's to live good.

This kid is just trying to earn a living, support his wife and kids, and have some toys to scoot around on during his time off... and the HOA has to poke their nose in and cause problems.
HOA's are managed BY THE HOMEOWNERS! SOMETIMES these are farmed out to HOA MANAGEMENT companies....... BUT, regardless of WHO is the representative manager. The HOA members must abide by COVENANTS AND RESTRICTIONS. Most in the community are probably HOMEOWNERS while some are RENTERS. IF A HOMEOWNER "RENTS" their home, they general are responsible (per the HOA legal documents) that renters are informed of the rules. Look to these documents (including legal HOA RESOLUTIONS for "changes") to resolve conflicts.
Thank you HOA for making the residents' privacy void! It lets us know what people have in their garages worth stealing to ensure we make calculated intrusions. You're the best!

This home owner association is run by control freaks. They should all be voted out.
So I had to look this up. And as usual, there’s more to the story. 1. The HOA rescinded the policy after all the pushback and press. 2. Jalopnik website, referring to a Sacramento Bee article behind a paywall, quotes a landlord in the neighborhood stating that the houses in the HOA are fourplexes with carports maintained by the HOA. However some residents installed overhead doors turning the carports into garages - apparently in violation of the rules. A resident was caught illegally allowing someone else to live in his garage, and instead of forcing residents to remove the garage doors the HOA came up with the rule that the doors must stay open during daytime. If this is accurate, it puts a much different spin on the whole situation.
Still not the legal way to address it. HOAs often cover maintenance on structures/exteriors. If multiple homeowners altered their property in violation of a rule, but the HOA does not enforce promptly an uniformly, the rule is dead and they cant go back and use it as a means to control everyone later. You report the unpermitted "additional dwelling unit" to zoning if its really a problem. But were they really hurting anyone else? In these times is it really our business if someone converts their garage to an extra bedroom to share living costs w friends/family? Can't do anything if your neighbors have 6 or 12 kids. So why is this anyones business?

Generally an HOA to protect their home values by preventing your neighbors from leaving broken down cars in the front yard or never mowing their lawn. HOAs that get power hungry like this are absurd and need to be fought against. Ultimately it’s your own neighbors making these rules so if the majority speaks up against them they should be able to overturn the rule.
It’s a balance. In most parts of the world, the common areas deteriorate pretty quickly, since nobody wants to chip in for upkeep, but inside a unit might look first class since they have extra pocket money that would have went to HOA. It depends if it’s worth it to you to pay a group to perform upkeep on the common areas.

Imagine signing a contract to have a huge tree taken down in your yard for $400. They come and take the tree down and you decide. Well.. 400 is a lot and you really only want to pay $200 instead. Should you take the tree trimmers to court and sue them to have them reduce the bill? When you agreed to 400 and signed the contract and moved forward with it? The tree trimmers are the ones that need to sue. And in this case the HOA needs to sue and fine people who don't abide by the contract.
@Dave or people who believe that their 400,000 dollar house they bought should be used in their own way that they feel fit. Boomers like you think you're just the perfect generation but look at what's happened to the world from you're upbringing. 1970 you could buy a house no problem but after all of your greedy fingers gucked and mucked up the economy, the next generation suffers. We have to work four times as hard just to own a house someone bought for a fraction of the price Back in 1970. So if that's the case I'm going to use the house how I want. And don't even get me started on the endless amount of police report stating the fraudulent actions of HOAs. There are endless lists of their greedy and secretive ways.
@Dave chances are, what happens on the inside of the garage does not affect the property value of the neighbors, therefore HOA should have no business inside.
@Dave I believe when the older generation sees the younger calling for some sort of change and improvement, they often leave it at entitlement. I also believe that it isn’t the fault of the older generation, I think it’s just a physic of change and part of why it’s so hard to change society in general. My current generation will fall to the same shortcomings when it becomes the older generation 🤷🏻♂️
@Dave I started with an advantage? The economy dropped. Jobs were less available. Banks didn't want to loan and money inflated. It isn't just your generation. It truly is each one's before it fault. When my grandfather was a kid he was paying 5 cents for a bag of candy now I'm pulling out 5 Bill's to pay for that same bag. And before that, my 80 year old grandfather was buying cars for 1000 dollars but his grandfather was buying cars for 100 dollars. Money became more scarce and inflated with each generation. There are tons of economical studies made by people who are paid the big bucks to find this out for you. It's one Google search away. But this isn't the point. HOA's are more than just a few 'rules' Dave. It's a ball and chain on freedom. I can't close my garage door? What's next? Can't close my windows when I change? How about lock my doors when I go to work? Open your eyes.
Those are McKeon condos. McKeon built a bunch of those condo complexes especially in California back in the 70s. I bought one Cambpell, CA in 1974 for $18,800 and they now sell for over $600,000. That is crazy!
I worked at a glass shop and a woman brought in her storm door to have the glass replaced. It wasn't broken and the glass that was in it had a nice beveled design etched into it. I asked her why would she change it out for just plain tempered glass. She said the HOA demanded it. So a big NO on HOAs from me.
It's entirely possible that somebody is bribing the HOA so that they can get a good look at the resident's cars, either to find somebody by their number-plate or to plan out car-thefts.
The HOA in my hood tried to bully me into joining. But I have lived here for 20 years without one and never had any issues so I refused. They threatened legal action but I still refused. Then the silver haired old lady who is the HOA head came to visit, like that was going to intimidate me. Lol. Long story short, the HOA didn’t want to spend money fighting a case they would lose. Now I always make sure my grass is taller than everyone else’s and I keep three cars in my driveway in open violation of their stupid rules. Life is good! Lol
ROSETTA WILLIAMS simple fix, put the bill of everything stolen on the HOA, if they refuse to pony up, then sue them for putting potential family’s and valuables at risk

Now that's one rule that HOA can fight against: Illegal squatters who occupy people' private properties and refuse to leave. But do they do it? No. HOA just bullies law-abiding property owners.
@Jared Early covenants and deed restrictions were established to control the people who could buy in a development. In the early postwar period after World War II, many were defined to exclude African Americans and, in some cases, Jews, with Asians also excluded on the West Coast. For example, a racial covenant in a Seattle, Washington, neighborhood stated, "No part of said property hereby conveyed shall ever be used or occupied by any Hebrew or by any person of the Ethiopian, Malay or any Asiatic race." In 1948, the United States Supreme Court ruled such covenants unenforceable in Shelley v. Kraemer. But, private contracts effectively kept them alive until the Fair Housing Act of 1968 prohibited such discrimination. By requiring approval of tenants and new owners, HOAs still have the potential to permit less formalised discrimination. And state oversight of homeowner associations is minimal, and it varies from state to state. Some states, such as Florida and California, have a large body of HOA law. Other states, such as Massachusetts, have virtually no HOA law. HOA has a very racist origin and really has no place in modern society today especially when they are not been overseen by any government or regulatory body. I am NOT going to place my rights of what I can or cannot do with my private property and essentially the enjoyment of my property that I have made the biggest investment of my life for in the hands of a bunch of people that are basically above the law and have to rely on them being "chill" in order to be happy.
The HOA or community concern is limited the view of a person walking on the curb: the curb appeal of the home. Yes, maintaining property value is important. That's it. Nothing else. Don't let them boss you in your own home.

My husband is a vet and in order for him to receive certain benefits (loans, healthcare etc) we are required to stay in the city. And here in Chicago the taxes and cost on anything is outrageous and the HOA is in every building thats either not an actual house or a privately owned building. I'm in the same field, naturally I also agree with this HOA rule as well. It would be nice to see this rule implemented in a state with stricter gun control, this neighborhood is in Texas, so we could still be dealing with some work safety issues even with the removal of these unnecessary garage doors.
Also they need to disable cameras for safety too! Wouldn’t hurt to leave doors unlocked too! It makes our job easier

New HOA rule all members must leave their wallets open to intruders from the hours of 8am to 6pm
Thank you HOA for making the residents' privacy void! It lets us know what people have in their garages worth stealing to ensure we make calculated intrusions. You're the best!
The HOA is ignorant and should be held liable for any missing property. Class action from all the homeowners is in order.

Will never live in a HOA. The pros do not outweigh the cons.
What are the pros outside of "property value"?
@@LdyVder Not really any
So I had to look this up.
Still not ok to try and enforce such an absurd rule
No such thing as illegally allowing someone to live in your garage

HOAs that get power hungry like this are absurd and need to be fought against. Ultimately it’s your own neighbors making these rules so if the majority speaks up against them they should be able to overturn the rule.
It’s a balance. In most parts of the world, the common areas deteriorate pretty quickly, since nobody wants to chip in for upkeep, but inside a unit might look first class since they have extra pocket money that would have went to HOA. My current generation will fall to the same shortcomings when it becomes the older generation 🤷🏻♂️

I asked her why would she change it out for just plain tempered glass. She said the HOA demanded it. So a big NO on HOAs from me.
The kid having an interview in front of the house like he's the owner is brilliant. He's got the dad stance straight up.
Leaving your garage door open is equivalent to leaving the front door open! Moral of story: Don't move into a neighborhood with an HOA!!!
Then it would be in your best interest to stay away from big cities like Houston and Chicago etc.
Sounds like the HOA runs a burglary ring and wants easy access to your house .
That would make for one hell of a crime drama. Maybe Martin Scorsese can direct it with Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) as the writer.
Or wants to murder someone.
*BINGO*
Exactly
It's entirely possible that somebody is bribing the HOA so that they can get a good look at the resident's cars, either to find somebody by their number-plate or to plan out car-thefts.
Every Karen's dream: becoming a Director of a HOA.
“The office was closed during hours it’s posted as open” Wow, just wow.
How is he in elementary school and he’s smarter than the people in the HOA?
Wouldn't be that hard, actually.
I think stupidity is a requirement to be a board member on an HOA.
A reptile is smarter than the people who run (and live in) an HOA!
@Greg Tastad My apologies for offending reptiles, that was completely rude and unfair. 😂
@Greg Tastad because snakes suck
Interesting the HOA wants people’s garages open but don’t even keep open their own office
Ha!! Great point! Just more “do as we say, not as we do”.
EXACTLY a bunch of hypocrites!!! More libtard idoit rules at work to rob and make the public less safe
REPUBLICAN KARENS No doubt
Guaranteed the HOA is run by Democrats/Communist!!!!!😡
@@hughmongous6613 The rule is to prevent people from *living* there. They are republicans, no question about it.
Lol
I would too!
Love how they have a little kid as the “voice of reason”
When a 9 yrs old young man wearing fallout t-shirt has more sense than hoa says a lot.
Better living underground.
His experience with Vault Tec taught him well
I mean it's not hard to make more sense than an HOA
Slap the words "wearing a fallout t-shirt" in the middle of the comment and it's almost like you came up with it on your own
Even this young child knows it’s stupid to leave garage door open.
ROSETTA WILLIAMS they are there for a reason lol
I'm still amazed he owns his own home .
ROSETTA WILLIAMS simple fix, put the bill of everything stolen on the HOA, if they refuse to pony up, then sue them for putting potential family’s and valuables at risk
This kid is like 43
"Well bill I just don't think it's a good idea I've got a lot of investment in this garage with my dirtbike, my scooter, and my electric wheelchair"
😂
It should be voluntary and not mandatory as common sense dictates. The state of your garage door should be up to the homeowner and not a group of people that think they know better than the owner what is right or wrong.
Sounds like the HOA has a thief that wants to take something from someone in the neighborhood.
My cousin moved into an hoa complex and was fined for replacing the dead bushes by her front door with exactly what was there before, that fine was 500 and was added onto daily, the HOAs beef was she didn't ask for permission.
Fast forward a year or so and now my cousin is the president of the board and all but the common sense rules have been removed, she turns out to be the people's president
Note to self: dont buy a house in a neighborhood with a HOA.
@Heyitseyevan wrong, how can you say every neighborhood?
@Heyitseyevan spoken by some one who doesn't have a house
Nah I'm lucky. The house right next to ours is the cutoff for the HOA in our neighborhood, but some dude is now developing the other side of the street after 20 years so they might expand(doesnt matter to me, I'll be gone to college by the time they can approve something like that)
. . . Depends on the HOA. There are pros and cons, as with anything. Personally, I think the pros outweigh the cons. . . . not in _this_ case, so much, but in general.
Our HOA can get a little eye rolling sometimes, but thankfully they’ve never overstepped their bounds and in a few cases, have even been the source of thankfulness in the community.
*Duh*
HOA’s are the most ridiculous things ever created.
There should be a law against HOAs. Stupid to have someone in control of people homes. Never would I move anywhere they have one.
@@Anna-zy8sj, you are 100% correct. Furthermore, every penny they get from homeowners is theft. HOA is an evil cult
Oh yeah I agree 100% while house shopping our agent hyped Hoa homes. I wasn't aware what it really was or meant to have one, she summed it as the people that care for your lawn. 🙄 worst mistake, can't wait to move
@@Soul2Thee, yes, hopefully you get to move soon. I would imagine that when people came up with the idea of government, thousands of years ago, governments were supposed to protect and serve people, however, what they really do is harass and oppress people
@@Anna-zy8sj I agree and don’t agree. I think if there is going to be one it should only be like what color to paint your house no abandon cars, no junk and simple understandable things like that but this??? Absolutely not ok with this. I live in one BUT it’s optional.I don’t have to pay or live by the “rules” but there is a house that painted (half of the side of there house) and it looks horrible! This is just ridiculous on what they want these home owners to do. But I do see your point.
HOA breaks homeowners kneecaps after refusing to pay fine
The neighborhood should sue the HOA and I would also send them a legal letter warning them that they are liable for anything that gets stolen.
HOA finds unauthorized person living in the attic.
New HOA Rule: All homes must not have roofs from 8am to 4pm, no exceptions.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't give them ideas...
And only super clear clear glass. So thin you can walk through it
Now that's one rule that HOA can fight against: Illegal squatters who occupy people' private properties and refuse to leave.
That's abuse of power, what if someone broke in and murdered a family then that's HOA fault.
Sometimes its better to disobey.
What is the reason. No legitimate reason. Garage is for home owner use.
The HOA or community concern is limited the view of a person walking on the curb: the curb appeal of the home. Yes, maintaining property value is important. That's it. Nothing else. Don't let them boss you in your own home.
hi T...
'
even wild animals comes in the garage house and hurts people / steals foods / things
You garage doesn't have a door to the interior house with a lock just the exterior
Not safe as it is if that's the case
Ah an accelerationist.
5 years after.... do they still need to keep garage doors open?
That kid in the beginning is smarter than the whole HOA.
Why do people wants to live like that...HOA is horrible
your right i dont get it, i have a family member locked into a HOA subdivision and he has like 4 choices of colors he can use 7 choices of outdoor structures that can be in the yard and they all vote on changes/ decisions in the neighborhood, pool and clubhouse
Because They Need People Telling Them How To Live
@@tonilee8927 bahahahahahahaha
In theory I can understand some appeal. If you have some basic rules to maintain yards and such you could in theory raise property value, and live in your perfect little neighborhood. I dont agree but I see the basic appeal
A whole neighborhood of communist Karen's & Kyle's...no thanks. I'd prefer wild hogs as neighbors...
That 9 year old put on his best t shirt for this interview, and my god he killed it
IKR?? Very astute young man.
he was annoying lil kid
Kid made good points and is wearing a dope t shirt for sure

“Lemme just list, for broadcast, the wide selection of items I have available in this garage every day from 8am to 4pm.”
What if it's RAINING or something??? And thieves only come at night apparently?
Never live in a HOA zone. It makes your home, THEIR home.
'Little Governments'

I spent twenty years homeless. Now i own a home. If the goverment keep putting the rates up i'll be homeless again.
@Chris Biddzz Oh yeah absolutely, you'll never EVER find 70 yo conservative boomers licking boots... like blindly accepting everything cops do, or the military, or the judiciary, or corporations, or elected officials from whatever faction they happen to support... lmao fck outta here "bending over" to authority is a sin that neither side should be be throwing stones about

I'm tired of being a law-abiding citizen and being treated as a criminal.
Most every law like this only affects upstanding citizens.
I would never in a million years follow any of these HOA demands.
@Ryan Shull come and cuff me. I wouldn’t do it. I wouldn’t pay the fine either
@@willhausauer7703 going to jail over that is very stupid if you are that willing to go either go rob a bank and make some money or go take out the Hoa president so atleast you get something out of going to jail.
@@kenshi600 what you said is toxic and hateful.

What you say to do is destructive and doesn't accomplish anything.
Think of everyone you hurt when you do those things. Not only your family but the public too.
You should care.
That’s life in the “land of the free”. They will criminalize anything here, even having a garage.
I'm from HOA and I'm here to help.
There has to be a way to install grid, visual, audio, electrical fencing in the garage to keep HOA out of a open door garage.
Constintina wire electrified. Or the invisible fencing to keep dogs in if it can keep people and animals out.
If the HOA was closed when contacted during the open hours, doesn't that make them subject to the $200 fine?
$200 fine, multiplied by the number of homeowners in the community!😆
I would stick a bill to the HOA office window in fine them $200 for not open when they're supposed to be see how they like it and then every time I see they're not open when they're supposed to be they would be getting bills every time I bet you liked it would stop real quick
Will the HOA take responsibility if items get stolen during the hours the garage doors get left open? Then compensate the homeowners?
If someone is illegally renting out or otherwise allowing occupancy of a property, how is this the HOA's business? Is this not the jurisdiction of the Authorities IE: Government?
So what happens if a HO removes the garage door and installs a wall, making this space internal to the house, and then has someone occupying it?
What id the HO is not member of the HOA. Presumably the tell the HOA to get stuffed.
Glad I leave in country where this doesn't happen.
All i know is, If i lived in this neighborhood my "valuables" in my garage would be going "Missing" weekly and i'd just keep "replacing" them lmfao. do it a few times n start sticking em with the bills n law suits. See how quick it gets changed. Then just sell ur old toys or tools w.e you let get "Stolen" and buy anew. Ez pz.
