Paul has a lot of sounds to his voice. Between his singing range and all the instruments he plays, he definitely has the most range of any of the Beatles.
Paul was the bassist for the Beatles but he played every instrument at one time or another. Most notable examples are playing solo guitar, in an acoustic, finger picked style, on the Beatles' most covered song ever, Yesterday. He played the electric solo guitar on Taxman. Piano on the number 1 Let it Be. Paul played drums on many of the White Album songs and the number 1 in the UK Ballad of John and Yoko. Paul's rough, screaming style of singing can be heard on She's a Woman, I Got a Feeling, I'm Down, and Helter Skelter.
Ringo quit the band right before the White Album recording started. Paul convinced him to return but by the time he did Back in the USSR was already finished with Paul on drums.

Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Phil Collins are the only musicians to have sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and member of a group. Paul is the best, I am amazed at his talent.
There are those that say Ringo was the second best drummer in the Beatles. Not sure I agree, but Paul is quite capable. As mentioned before, he was either using a 4 track recorder and bouncing tracks, or he may have had access to an 8 track recorder.
Yes, Paul did a lot of that gritty, 'screaming' type singing in The Beatles, too. It was one of their things, being really energetic, especially in the earlier years. Maybe less as they got more psychedelic, but he still did it. Helter Skelter by the Beatles is considered one of the first metal-type songs, you should check it out. Actually Motlely Crue did a cover of it on their early album and it's very good.
From 'Til There Was You' to 'Oh Darling' to 'Long, Tall Sally', to 'All My Loving'...I could go on. Each vocal performance is different but perfect for the song. And the harmonies he sang in the Beatles - he was the high voice - were out of this world. And he can play many, many instruments. He is the most successful songwriter in pop music history. And, his latest solo work - try listening to 'Sing the Changes', 'You Tell Me' and/or 'House of Wax' - either of these three songs will blow you away. And very recently he did 'I Can Find My Way.' Great song.
My favorite song by my favorite singer.💕 I have seen Paul live several times in the past 20 years, and have enjoyed seeing him performing this in concert. YES, he wrote the song by himself AND he played all of the instruments. It's really not a "video" accompanying the song but rather a collection of family photographs including his wife Linda, daughters Heather, and Mary as a baby. Most of the photographs were taken by Linda.
My fav all time McCartney song. Great tune, medley and guitar solo. Yes plays all instruments. Played lead guitar and drums on many Beatle songs, but don't tell anyone.
The first real awareness i had that i was getting older took place in a record store -The Wherehouse or Tower Records, maybe - i was thumbing my way through the albums in one bin, Led Zeppelin, say, and two very young girls were nearby, searching through another. Girl 1: "Oh, look, Paul McCartney." Girl 2: "uh huh" Girl 1: "Did you know he was in a band before he was solo?" Girl 2: "Really?" Girl 1: " uh huh, they were called Wings."
His daughter Mary McCartney has just directed the documentary If These Walls Could Sing. It is her feature documentary debut, about the history of Abbey Road Studios in London and the experiences and memories of the musicians who have played there. It was created as the Centrepiece of Abbey Road Studios’ 90th anniversary celebrations in November 2022.[6] It was announced in January 2021 that McCartney would direct a documentary about Abbey Road Studios.[7] McCartney said “some of my earliest memories as a young child come from time spent at Abbey Road, I’ve long wanted to tell the story of this historic place.”[8] As well as her father Paul McCartney, contributions are reported to be from Jimmy Page, Kate Bush, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Pink Floyd, John Williams, Celeste, Elton John, Giles Martin, and Shirley Bassey.[9] Production is by Mercury Studios and Ventureland. McCartney said what she “wanted from the interviews was to drill down into those musicians really feel about Abbey Road. "Do you really care about Abbey Road? It's a building and you recorded here, but whatever. Do you really care?" And I think from the interviews, you can really see they are thinking fondly about it.”[10] Wikipedia.
He wrote this when under extreme stress with Beatles breakup unfolding. There was infighting going on between him and John, as to who was going to legally represent them . Paul wanted his wife's father, a NY lawyer named John Eastman, while John wanted a notoriously shady dude Allen Klein. Paul fell into a deep depression, and retreated to his farm in the country. Drinking and drugging heavily, it was his wife Linda who slapped him back into reality and gave him the courage to go it alone, which his first solo album showed. I mean as far as talent goes, we're talking about a Beatle icon here. He did it all himself, perhaps to prove a point to John? Just speculation, but that's my guess.
Not only did he write it and perform all those instruments, but he can't even read music. He plays it all by ear and remembers all the notes. He is truly amazingly talented
When I was a small child I was left-handed out of six children and everyone else was right handed. My oldest brother was in high school and knew I was having a little trouble Because sometimes people wanted me to do things right handed. Even in schools at that time they try to convert kids to be right handed for some reason. Since I was a twin, they let me remain left-handed so they could tell me and my sister apart since we were so identical. Anyway, my big brother told me one day that Paul McCartney was left-handed. Even though I already liked the Beatles, that made me have a special bond with Paul and I loved him even more… Still do to this day. I never minded being different than everyone else after that.… In anything that I did. And when I watched the Beatles I always noticed Paul playing his guitar left-handed. Being a child in the 60s was great.
So far no one has suggested listening to the live version of this song. It is great, better than the studio version. I heard that McCartney very pleased that he sold more records after the Beatles than he did when he was with the Beatles. We have been so lucky to have his musical genius to enjoy all these years.
Yeah I mean… he’s one of those raw and passionate singers that can play the fiddle with your heart strings. He’s got amazing pitch and range. I love Paul’s voice so much. His version of Monkberry Moon Delight is also a delight.
Paul wrote it, played all the instruments, sang the vocals (Linda helped with background vocals), produced it - and I'm talking about the entire album, not just Maybe I'm Amazed. Paul could (and still can) play every instrument you can think of. It all started with The Beatles!
There is a live version on the live album from his 1976 tour. That's the version that reached #10 on the Billboard charts. You're right. The live version is amazing!
He played lead guitar on a few Beatles tunes including Taxman for the Revolver album, which was written (ironically) by George Harrison the regular lead guitarist. He played drums on many songs on the White album when Ringo stepped away for a spell. He rocked out vocals on early Beatles tunes like Long Tall Sally and I'm Down, and later for Oh Darling for the Abby Road album.
Yes. He wrote the entire album. He recorded tracks one at a time, then mixed them together, and did the same thing on "McCartney" ll and lll. You need to check out "Live and Let Die". He plays (to one degree or another) 54 instruments.
Yeah, he did it all. He's a very talented guy. He wrote many great songs. Listen to Blackbird by the Beatles and you'll hear him play a beautiful acoustic guitar. He uses a hybrid finger picking/strum technique that's very difficult. I've played guitar for years and I still can't do it right! He was the bassist in the Beatles but played piano on many recordings and guitar on some. Sang and wrote almost half the songs. All songs written by he or John Lennon are credited to both of them, but if he was the primary writer, he would usually sing lead and if Lennon was the primary writer Lennon would usually sing lead. Of course George Harrison wrote and sang a number of great songs too. The Beatles were amazing and groundbreaking in so many ways, that's why many consider them the greatest band of all time.
Paul can play over 40 instruments, he wrote it, and by recording each instrument in an individual track, and layering them over each other, he made the song you hear.
When I was younger I never listened to the Beatles. When I hit my late 30s I fell in 💕, now at 51 I listen to them almost daily 😂. I think 🤔 alot of their music is deep, and mature. I understand the lyrics more today.
A talented multi instrumentalist, singer songwriter, arranger, and a nice guy to boot, a couple of gems from Paul Live and Let Die Live (Wings Over America 1976) and his Carpool Karaoke special with James Corden (23 minutes of wonder, but try to ignore James Corden)
MAYBE I'M AMAZED is a great song and a great recording I love the atmosphere of the recording - the guitar solo is brilliant as well - great piano, vocal, drumming with great feel -- amazing it is one man band along with Linda and Paul harmonies
Several artists have played all the instruments and sang all the harmonies and wrote all the songs too. Todd Rundgren has done that for whole albums one was a double album.
Well, solo on 3 of the 4 sides, as I remember, “Something/Anything “ was the name of the album. Yes Todd is insaaaaaaanely talented, but I find few reactions to his stuff. He made his $$bucks$$ producing, like Grand Funk Railroad’s “We’re An American Band”
I was 14 when I got this album. It kind of made the sting of the Beatles breaking up a little less. So happy to have grown with Paul’s and the Beatles music in my life.
In The Beatles Paul played various instruments on various tracks including bass, drums, pianó and acoustic guitar... So yeah he's well capable. He's done 3 McCartney albums now where he does everything himself.
Yes, he played all the instruments and did the production and mixing of this album in his loving room. He inspired me to get a four track recorder and play all the instruments myself. I only did bass, guitar, drums, harmonica, and the dulcimer, which I borrowed from a friend. So I did an amateur recording on analog , for my son's second birthday. It was called Billy's Lullaby, my son's name. The Beatles helped me out with their songs throughout troubled life, filled with depression and alcohol, and losing my mom to cancer. I will always remember the BEATLES!!! GOD BLESS ENGLAND, where they are from. And GOD BLESS AMERICA, where I am from.
Paul is a wizard. When he got the grammy with Nirvana, instead of playing Bass, he played a cigar box guitar given to him by Johnny Depp like a Wizard. He even played the drums on a Foo Fighters album despite them having 2 of the best drummers in the world at the time. It shouldn't shock you, he is the biggest selling artist in history.
McCartney has probably the most versatile voice in music history. Pick any genre of music and he has crushed it! How did he do this? Quite simply he is the most talented singer musician and composer (oh and the most successful) the planet has ever seen!
Yes, Paul did everything on that album. After Nirvana Dave Grohl also did a solo album where he wrote, sang and played all the instruments. It was titled as the first Foo Fighters album but he didn't even have a band yet. Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, also played every instrument, wrote and sings on his debut album...it's incredible. Watch the video 'Don't Back Down'...it totally rocks and shows him playing all the instruments, and he's got an incredible voice. Good sense of humor in the video, too. His first tour was opening for Guns n Roses, so yeah, he's great.
This is the kind of song that SO many women dream will be dedicated to them (even though we know it will never happen). The song communicates so much love, dedication, and awe to his then-partner Linda.
Wait, you want to hear Paul sing an earlier release (but not much earlier) with this voice, go listen to "Oh! Darling" off the Abbey Road album! Best Beatle album (and last) they ever released!!! He always does this song live and last time I saw him it was on Linda's birthday a few years after she had died (in the Meadowlands), I'd seen Paul several times in pervious years (with Linda on stage) and that was the most heartfelt rendition I'd ever seen him perform! Another great song is from his Ram album and that would be "Monkberry Moon Delight". The Sheepdog is Martha and he wrote a song about her, off the White album, "Martha My Dear".
You seem to be AMAZED about Paul playing all the instruments. So check out a video called "The basement where Boston began". Then you will be amazed again.
Yes, Paul wrote this song. There was a time when Paul McCartney could have joined practically any band as a guitarist, or a bassist, or on keyboards, or on drums. Not to mention that he has one of the best and most versatile voices in all of pop music. And we won't even get into his world-class songwriting ability. Or his talent as a record producer. Really... in the 1970s, McCartney could have been in any top band playing just about anything, because he was/is that good at it. One of a kind. And consider that the Beatles had three of these "one of a kinds" with McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison (and they could play multiple instruments as well). And even Ringo Starr wrote a few excellent songs, both for the Beatles and solo. All that talent in one group is why the hype about the Beatles is real.
**The man...The Myth...The legend....Mr. Paul McCartney** In my opinion one of if not THE best singer/songwriter EVER. With over 500 songs written or co-written, 71 with the Beatles alone, to his name who even comes close? Yes he plays all the instruments on this album and is capable of playing many more. The man is musical talent personified. The song is written for Linda who got him out of his funk when the Beatles broke up and stuck with him and supported him every step of the way. When the Beatles broke up Paul was MORBIDLY depressed, he almost thought his life and career was over. First he stopped eating, then stopped washing, started drinking heavily, and finally stopped getting out of bed totally. It was Linda that as the song says "Maybe I'm amazed at the the way you pulled me out of time, You hung me on a line......" essentially got his ass in gear again. The pictures in the vid are of his deceased wife Linda, her 2 children Heather and Mary, and their sheepdog Martha for whom the Beatle song "Martha My Dear" is written for. I've always said if I could trade lives with anyone from birth to death it would be Paul McCartney. Who else led a better life? Born and raised in an upper middle class loving family, went to the best schools, founded the greatest rock band EVER, left them and formed another almost as good, then went on to a amazing solo career equaled by very few, had a supportive and loving soulmate of a wife for years, and a couple of children of their own, and is now worth over a BILLION dollars. What more could anyone ask from life? Peace
Paul had 3 children with Linda, Mary, Stella and James. Heather was Linda's daughter from her first marriage, but with the permission of Heather's father, Paul legally adopted Heather. Paul also had a daughter, Beatrice Millie, with his 2nd wife ( whom he married a few years after the love of his life Linda, passed away from breast cancer), but that marriage only lasted a few years. He is now happily married again to Nancy Shevell for the last 11 years.
He also rocks out on OH, Darlin by the Beatles. John said he should have sang it because he thought he was more of a rocker, but Paul was just as good, and better, in my opinion
The absolute best statistic about Paul McCartney in my book is that from the time he married Linda to her death they never spent a night apart except for one night in Tokyo he spent in jail for pot possession. Quite remarkable feat. He truly loved her.
I saw him Jul 3 1990 in WDC ,its was over 100 deg and humid as hell , he blew me away ,his vocals were beyond anything I've ever heard he did this song and it was the best version I've ever heard his phrasing and inflections were so creative and perfect theres a live version of the 1990 tour out there of this .
I need to add this to what I typed a moment ago. After he did that first instrument, he was listening to that first one so he could stay in sync with that first instrument. That's the reason why you see other bands using headphones while they're recording music in a sound studio.
This is my favourite McCartney track. He absolutely adored Linda and was devastated when she died. I think they only spent something like 2 nights apart in their whole marriage.

It's really not a "video" accompanying the song but rather a collection of family photographs including his wife Linda, daughters Heather, and Mary as a baby. Most of the photographs were taken by Linda.
Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written
My fav all time McCartney song. Great tune, medley and guitar solo. Yes plays all instruments. Played lead guitar and drums on many Beatle songs, but don't tell anyone.
The first real awareness i had that i was getting older took place in a record store -The Wherehouse or Tower Records, maybe - i was thumbing my way through the albums in one bin, Led Zeppelin, say, and two very young girls were nearby, searching through another.
Girl 1: "Oh, look, Paul McCartney."
Girl 2: "uh huh"
Girl 1: "Did you know he was in a band before he was solo?"
Girl 2: "Really?"
Girl 1: " uh huh, they were called Wings."
My Bride & I have had the pleasure of seeing him twice. Very outstanding concerts.
His daughter Mary McCartney has just directed the documentary If These Walls Could Sing. It is her feature documentary debut, about the history of Abbey Road Studios in London and the experiences and memories of the musicians who have played there. It was created as the Centrepiece of Abbey Road Studios’ 90th anniversary celebrations in November 2022.[6]
It was announced in January 2021 that McCartney would direct a documentary about Abbey Road Studios.[7] McCartney said “some of my earliest memories as a young child come from time spent at Abbey Road, I’ve long wanted to tell the story of this historic place.”[8] As well as her father Paul McCartney, contributions are reported to be from Jimmy Page, Kate Bush, Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, Pink Floyd, John Williams, Celeste, Elton John, Giles Martin, and Shirley Bassey.[9] Production is by Mercury Studios and Ventureland. McCartney said what she “wanted from the interviews was to drill down into those musicians really feel about Abbey Road. "Do you really care about Abbey Road? It's a building and you recorded here, but whatever. Do you really care?" And I think from the interviews, you can really see they are thinking fondly about it.”[10]

Always a fav because of the passion,
I’ve and truth!Thanks
I’ve loved him since I’ve had any memory, at all. LOL. My mom and older brother were BIG BeaTles fans.
I would assume in this case, he played piano and sang it on the first pass. Then started layering tracks/instruments after that.
Yeah dude, one of the best songs of all time. And he played all the instruments on the recorded version. Sir Paul is the best ever
One of the best love songs ever made! ♥
There is a Beatles song called Oh Darlin' Where he gets nitty gritty on the vocals
A far better example of him getting "nitty gritty" is the Beatles song "I'm Down".
He did write it. He's written more songs than anyone. Truly gifted.
This is the first ever album where the artist played all the instruments
Yes. He wrote the entire album. He recorded tracks one at a time, then mixed them together, and did the same thing on "McCartney" ll and lll. You need to check out "Live and Let Die". He plays (to one degree or another) 54 instruments.
Sir Paul McCartney always puts his heart into what he feels in his heart. This song is awesome. It will withstand the test of time.
Next up: "Listen To What The Man Said"---- from his Venus and Mars album recorded in New Orleans.
Paul did indeed write the song. Wings Over America is the live album where you can find the live version.
If you want to hear paul sing griity check out Oh Darling and I'm down
A talented multi instrumentalist, singer songwriter, arranger, and a nice guy to boot, a couple of gems from Paul Live and Let Die Live (Wings Over America 1976) and his Carpool Karaoke special with James Corden (23 minutes of wonder, but try to ignore James Corden)
I saw him play this live in 89 and he had Linda with him on stage in Chicago...It was fantastic!
@@billwilson7948 his album Hermit of Mink Hollow he did all the writing, singing and instrument's too.
Sorry typo, I meant to say living room, these darn auto correct stuff. I'm old school. Give me a typewriter, lol.
Maybe I'm Amazed was recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2.
Paul could scream with the best of them. He is also a musical genius. Could play any instrument.
Paul played multiple instruments when he was with Beatles including drums, guitars, bass, organ, piano, etc!
You need to listen to the Beatles “Long Tall Sally” and “Oh Darling” to really hear Paul’s vocal abilities! Amazing!!!
The wonderful genius that is Paul McCartney
He did the same on McCartney II and McCartney III. All the Beatles were VERY talented but PAUL? gENIUS.
"Silly Love Songs" and "My Love" are two of my favorites. "Another Day" too. And I'll probably get flack for this, but I LOVE "No More Lonely Nights."
Yup. 100% Paul, writing, singing and all instruments. This whole 1st album was him, much of it recorded at home.
**The man...The Myth...The legend....Mr. Paul McCartney**
In my opinion one of if not THE best singer/songwriter EVER.
@@patticrichton1135 👏 I meant in the video👏
He also rocks out on OH, Darlin by the Beatles. John said he should have sang it because he thought he was more of a rocker, but Paul was just as good, and better, in my opinion
The absolute best statistic about Paul McCartney in my book is that from the time he married Linda to her death they never spent a night apart except for one night in Tokyo he spent in jail for pot possession. Quite remarkable feat. He truly loved her.
Great reaction!!! You have become my favorite reactor! Thanks for sharing!!!
He's a musical genius!!!
It's such a really awesome love song. I love the photos too!
