- Monterey 14.1 & OCLP 1.1.0 ISSUE UPDATE IN THE DESCRIPTION! Apple just released the first major update to macOS Sonoma 14.1! I'll go over all the details behind this update including new features, bug fixes, security updates & enterprise changes. Plus I'll cover OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.1.0 support for macOS Sonoma 14.1 on Unsupported Macs. CHAPTERS BELOW!
WARNING! I recommend NOT installing the Sonoma 14.1 Update on Unsupported Macs right now! The 14.1 Update is causing issues on certain Unsupported Macs that require the 14.1 KDK! After the Sonoma 14.1 update it will get stuck at a black screen or progress bar. My OLCP update test demo worked but ONLY because it was connected to the internet via an ethernet connection! If it would have been connected to wifi it would have failed to download the kdk and would be unable to boot. Check out my latest video on the issue and how to recover if this happened to you - • Sonoma 14.1 Issues! Bl...

If you attempted to update to 14.1 from 14.0 using system update, when it hangs around 30%, power off and hold shift and power to boot into safe mode and it will finish the installation. Then run the post install patches while still in safe mode, then finally reboot. This saved me from having to start all over.
Thank you very much for this tip.
Do not ignore this comment. Got me from being stuck in the login page for hours
It took a couple of reboots for mid 2012 MBP 10,1. It first hung at around 30% then rebooted into safe mode, but the keyboard didn't work. Did another reboot and the keyboard lit up this tie but nothing, still hung around 30%. On the 3rd reboot, got the error reporting screen then the "Home" message (disregarded both). Applied the post install patches and restarted. It's back up. Other options would have been to use the 14.0 installer and do a fresh install (installing 14.0 over 14.1 won't work) or create a new 14.1 installer and do a fresh install which may still bring you back to the same issue as before. As always, back-up your current system before you attempt the upgrade.
Thanks for that. I was doing a USB boot update from 14.0 to 14.1 on a 2012 MacBook Pro 9,1. There were no obvious problems but the install seemed to keep stalling. The safe mode boot helped to complete,
Same issue happened to me with my 2015 MacBook Pro. After updating from system update, it got stuck at 50% and I had to reboot into safe mode to get it to finish the installation. Very bad! Mr Macintosh, please mention this to others!
Thank you for your in depth videos. These are very helpful!
Got the latest Opencore Patcher on my late 2012 27' Mac, no apparent issues, running just the same
Thanks for the great video Mr. M. (kinda breezy sound!)
Do you think there will be a fix for the USB 1.1 driver issue on pre-2011 Macs?
thank you! Im on 14.1 with my mbp 16 inch m1max . Runs perfect! thank you!
I'm using a 2017 15" macbook pro. I'm still on Ventura. Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade using oclp? Would you please post a video to upgrade to sonoma on said device? That would be helpful.
MacBook Pro 15" 2017 with Touch Bar, lots of restarts. Mouse was jerky initially, deleted the 14.0 in developer then redid patching it pulled the newer patches and all seems ok now. 2013 MacBook Pro 13", everything was ok about from some fault message which is gone after using onyx to clear things up. All working fine. Have noticed the wifi symbol on bar is light grey and only shows connected wifi and not all in vicinity, but working ok.
So cab you explain the notification, "Home" would like to use your current location, is this just a bug? If I use this should I tap Allow? TIA
I am still on Ventura on MACBOOK PRO 2017 yet to know if the OCLP fixed touchbar and touch id issues
Hi my Mac seems unstable after these updates and I never have patches did I do something wrong? Thanks
Ya updated with no hesitation to OCLP 1.1.0 but still staying with latest Ventura. If i find the time i will try the Sonoma on a new SSD with clean installation (MBP 13 - i7 late 2011)
Do you know if OCLP has updated Sonoma to support Target Display Mode, it was working in Monterey and Ventrua but OCLP in Sonoma it no longer works. :(
What happens to the full 12Gb download after install is finished? can I get that space back?
Hi there, so long story short I download the 14.1 and I am in the final installer phase it works and it reboots and tries to boot up it get to 30-45% and once it reaches that point it stops I left it all night still nothing. So I try to do what you showed and the commands worked but it still won’t boot up which I’m booting up from a drive first and then switching later to hard drive after full completion but back to what I was saying the commands themselves worked in the terminal but did not work in the load and is still stuck. So if the problem is the KDK files how to I load them without access to my system or how do I fix this situation pls help thank you 😊
My macbook get struck on the On the progress bar of F3 % and stay there, it would not move in the mall.
It was working fine on the on the patcher. But now I don't know what happened. It just boots up with my password in. And it's the progress bar, go across. And it's go to hold 1% and stop.
Updated to OCLP v1.1.0 on my late 2009 iMac 11,1 (2.8 GHz i7 with AMD radeon 4850 GPU) and the photo app crashes when I try to open it. Tried a few things but downgraded to v1.0.1 and re-set the root patches to that state to get the app running again. Seems there is a bug in the v1.1.0 for my kind of iMac model. 😮
Updated to Somona 14.0 2 weeks ago. Works fine but only 1 small problem hope it gets fixed with the 14.1 update. Somona won’t run the clean my mac software
my mac cant update for opencore. it get stuck at 4 percent for some reason i did it with 1.1.0 on a 2015 early 13 inch macbook pro. the percentage got stuck at 4 for the auto root patch. i shut it down and tried again and the situation is different. there is no percentage now and it is stuck at a 70 percent progress bar.
Got problems with 2 of my macbook pros, after installing OCLP 1.1.0 and updating both after login screen goes dim then black?
I update to 14.1 from 14.0 on a 2017 iMac 24inch and wireless card is not working any ideas to help me ? Please, thank you
Still on Ventura. mid-2012 MBP: updated OCLP to 1.1.0 and then MacOS to 13.6.1 with no issues.
Cool installed Open Patcher 1.1.0. last night with macOS Sonoma on the Late 2015 5K iMac which works :-) I hope Sonoma 14.1 works too and has fixed the bugs (Sonoma is quite stable though).
God bless.
i haven't taken the jump to Sonoma yet on my 2015 iMac.. i tried it out early on and the video wallpaper/lockscreen didn't work, has that been fixed yet?
@@SintaxBSD Did you update the patches? No problem with any Metal capable Macs like the Late 2015 5k iMac. It's best to upgrade to SSD also coz' (when you install using the USB installer that you make with Open Patcher 1.1.0) when you install the OS it'll be slow coz' the root patches are drivers are installed after macOS is on the Finder.
It's best to backup first, then partition macOS Sonoma (about 70GB for good measure), install Sonoma there, if it doesn't work you still have your main. If it does work, if your main macOS is on AFPS format, you could erase your main and macOS will merge that free space into your new macOS installation and then being back your file from Time Machine.
God bless.
Mac Mini 5.1 OCLP 1.1.0 finished no issues.
MacBook Pro 13, 2015 I started update to Sonoma 14.1 and before that I had OCP 1.1.0, it rebooted twice and then it can't boot the OS! Any advice on what to do?
There's an issue with with vmware going black screen after installing vmware tools in sonoma 14, hope they fixed it in 14.1. I mean the guest os
About to upgrade my work 2023 MacBook Pro to 14.1. Holding off on my personal work horse (2015 MacBook Pro) until I watch your next video.
Hope this fixes the nightly crash issue I’m having on my M1 Max MacBook Pro. Didn’t have a problem when running Ventura, only Sonoma. Been trying different recommendations to fix but so far no luck. Updating now. 🤞🙏
Same here. I am having a nightly crash as well. What solutions did you try as I haven’t found anything yet.
Cheers.
@@TomBoyNI Tried unplugging external hard drive and display, which didn’t help. I just did the upgrade to 14.1 and I think it’s fixed. Didn’t crash last night!!! Just out of curiosity, did you ever run any Symantec virus software on your machine? I did and I think it might have been a remnant of that causing the problem. It came up in the console crash report but the system wouldn’t let me delete it. Said I didn’t have authorization. Try updating.
I am on a MacMini mid 2011; OCLP 1.0.1; Sonoma 14.0...
I am not sure what the upgrade procedure is. Do I update the OS via System Settings? Do I have to manually update OCLP 1.0.1 to 1.1.0? If so how? I am a bit confused after watching this video. Any advice?
Update OCLP, then Update the EFI (Build and install OpenCore), reboot, Update macOS via System Settings
Hi Mr. Macintosh. I’m new to OSLP and recently added Ventura to my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. I have a 2008 MacBook also and I’m wondering if I can use the same USB installer on my second device or do I need to create a separate USB installer for that machine. I really appreciate all the information that you provide and made my first attempt go very smoothly. Thank you so much.
I meant Opencore Legacy Patcher.
No you should install the correct patches for that specific machine to the usb drive by selecting the model in OCLP settings.
But no need to entirely reinstall the macOS update to the usb drive :) just the patches
@@juicythedj750 Thank you. Really appreciate the help. I’ll give it a try. 👍
after update, i need to connect 2.0 usb hub to get mouse and keyboard work. then I run the patch. it's working now
I doubt to update Sonoma 14.1 as I am afraid my IBM SPSS 29.0 will not working properly
Hello Mr.Hakintosh I installed Sonoma on a 2009 core 2 duo everything is ok but when I my garangeband it gave a message that there is an issue with not being able to initiate graphics for this app .
Any tip to fix this.
I need it for my music production .
If I can't I will downgrade to Mojave .
Thanks a lot .
Thumbs up you 're the boss.
I am trying to install Mac OS Sonoma in my mid

Mid 2014 with Retina display I reinstalled clean Mac os big sur using internet recovery mode and could please help me through this install Mac OS
Ventura or Sonoma
Mr Macintosh,
Any reason why Netflix, HBO Max, or Amazon Prime is not working on Safari?
Updated to OCLP 1.1.0 and Monterey 12.7.1 without issues. Thanks to the OCLP Team! People, if you've managed to resurrect your old Mac PLEASE CONSIDER donating to the OCLP team, even if it's a dollar.
One thing they removed with sonoma is the possibility to scroll without end in the "recently added" part of you music library. They also don't have the "sort by date added" feature for albums sorting unlike aplle music on iOS 16.1. Little but it makes looking up older music so much more tedious and annoying.
Given I live in Australia I will watch live for the first time.
any experience on facetime bro on ventura
, cannot log in, no error message.
One more thing that was fixed in 14.1 is the USB audio devices that were broken. Almost nobody is talking about this but a lot of DJs, music producers and content creators got pissed off because of this issue after installing 14.0.
Edit: This only affected Intel machines for some reason.
Sonoma completely messed up my iCloud data.
Constantly synching but thats Not the Problem.
It made several copies of different Folders, contents spread seemingly arbitrarily between These copies.
Now i still dont know if a Future Update is going to Reverse/fix this but more importantly i dont know what data is lost.
I have a timemachine Backup, but Paying monthly for Apple plus thinking my stuff would be Save and then for this to Happen sucks big time.
I have updated to 14.1 and found my WiFi is not enabling now,
Pls help Air 2017.
My terminal is getting stuck after upgrade and on restart , it show the following error
Login timed out after 300 seconds
[Process completed]
Anyone else getting to see this?
I’m gun shy about updating Sonoma. Last update I was on Monterey, and it bricked my M1 MBP. I had to drive 40 miles to the Apple Store and have them revive it. The guy before me had the same exact problem. Their only fix was to force install Sonoma. Not a great solution when my music studio software is not yet completely compatible with it. I don’t know how to find out if this update might be causing problems like this.
Nice video very thorough but quite a bit too quick for a newcomer like myself. Be nice if you could make one and slow it down.
going to stick with Ventura for the time being.
Please, please can you do an in depth video about updating the OS on an unsupported Mac using opencore. I have tried many times, update done and then everything fails because I don’t know the correct procedure to re-install patches etc. your videos seem to show the update, the after, but not actually doing it and what problems you could face and what to do if it fails to re-boot. Many thanks
Desperately need a refresh of the iMac. The MacBook Pros have had there's twice already.
I installed OpenCore Legacy 1.1.0 on my 2011 iMac. It loaded perfect. Then I installed Sonoma 14.1 and it installed perfectly. I then used open core 1.1.0 to load its files to Sonoma 14.1 and when I restarted it I just get the apple logo showing and it doesn't load. Any word of wisdom? I have everything backed up.
I got exactly the same situation
Tried many things and nothing worked. Now I'm preparing 14.1 USB OCLP to boot from it
Has this fixed 2016 touchbar issues? I’m downloading tonight!
I tried this and touchbar not working. Did you install it and are there any issues on backlit keyboard and touchbar?
@@burnsg1232 all working my end. Keyboard backlight and touchbar all working lovely.
MacBook 13.2
I don't know why but live background doesn't work in Sonoma. Just like wallpaper. I'm working with RX580 since AMD 6600 doesn't work in Sonoma.
I was having that issue as well, on my 2015 iMac 27 :/ does it still not work with the latest OCLP and Sonoma 14.x?
Hey Mr. Mac, I've had some time to give Open Core a good shake, and really see potential. I just don't find it a perfect solution compared to running a natively supported OS. While things work really well, I still find little things that don't work and in time would affect this being a solution as a production system for me. For example, right now 3D acceleration doesn't work in VMs under Ventura, or Sonoma patched, so have to stick to natively supported Monterey for now. In general compared to what works, this is a small limitations, but as a production OS that I'd be depending on, it would make it more difficult adding up the little quirks. There's also the little quirks of switching between Open Core, and native in terms of the changes made to SIP, and SSV. I installed 14.1 with OCLP on an external drive connected to an iMac 17,1, and it works well, but have decided to stick with Monterey until it's out of support for the most reliable experience.
what your VM ? please
imac 2013 stuck and again and format! it’s no way to gonna again
Will this fix the touchbar for 2016 & 2017 macbook pro touch bar?
My touchbar works fine after I fresh installed 14.0 with oclp 1.0.1 so I think you should be fine with 1.1.0
@MeshackHohome I did a fresh install using 1.0.1 or 1.1.0, my touchbar and backlit keyword is not working

I'm new to Mac. Long time Windows user, tired of things like VPNs not working like they should and having to pay for basic things like office apps and note apps. Love Mac so far even with the learning curve. I never had any problems with Microsoft upgrades as I don't gum up my computer with garbage apps and plug-ins. Sonoma? I am a little spooked by the volume of articles and videos on how to downgrade back to Ventura. Don't know my way around MacOS enough to mitigate any bugs. Not sure I would use many of the big features Sonoma has to offer other than cosmetic improvements, notes and security improvements.
My Mac Pro 5,1 gets stuck on the Apple logo after installing root patches. Nothing I’ve tried has fixed it so I’m trying to do a reinstall of macOS in recovery mode
Update: this fixed it. I reinstalled the root patches and now everything is working haha
I had installed the sonoma on my m1 pro, but it has draining my battery a lot, so I decided to downgrade to the monterey which works perfectly.
Mine was 3.50 GB why would yours be different?
Me too.

@@mammefuad4158 If this doesn’t work: Mr. Macintosh actually released another fix it video for this (maybe your) issue.
I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to upgrade to Sonoma or not. I'm still on Monterey on a Mac Studio M1, and it needs to work without any or little issue. Apple has become so unreliable on the software side of things, and System Settings is just so awful compared to System Preferences. Ventura broke a bunch of stuff for me, and Sonoma's been pretty crappy on my work computer. Overall, it's really hard to justify the upgrade. Sonoma does have a lot of nice features, that's the only reason I'm considering it at this point.
I'm staying on Monterey until the security updates stop. It works fine as a daily driver. I got a taste of Ventura and System Settings on my sister's M1 Mini and I was not a fan.
Get left behind and forgotten
