It's funny, this ranks as one of my favorites by them... and there are no lyrics. It takes so much talent to convey a story with only sounds, body language, and costume. Absolutely brilliant.

I like that not only are there no instruments but no lyrics. I played this in high school 56 years ago. I got to play Geoff's part since I was on the contrabass clarinet. VoicePlay's arrangement and video absolutely brings a new feel to the piece. I love it. Elizabeth and Geoff worked at Disney at the same time. She denies that she is an opera singer, says she only does it when and if Layne asks her to. Since she wasn't having any issues with that Layne gave her to sing, he added the highest line to challenge her. She was up to it. She or her voice were in VP's Frozen 2 as the ethereal background voice and of course she was in Just Sing which VoicePlay did during the early pandemic honoring the people who had sung with them over the years. If you do that one, make sure the captions are on so you will know who everyone is and their claim to fame.
Every time someone added something to the pot and they took a sip their voice mutated. I thought that was a really clever understated subplot. My favorite is when Cesar adds the spider legs and it makes Layne drunk.
I love that they used all those crazy noises. Another viewer commented that it reminded him of Spike Jones and I have to agree.
Elizabeth says she is not a trained opera singer but she’s certainly got the pipes for it. She has spent over 20 years working with Disney among other things working with Voices of Liberty as did many of the people who are currently in Voctave.
Generally they try to put out one video per month and sometimes actually manage to go from start to finish in about three weeks. However the more epic costumes pieces take longer.
However this year, they put out a Halloween piece as well, in costume, and got it out before Halloween in spite of the hurricane knocking out their power
It is set in Disney’s Haunted Mansion and if you’ve taken the ride you’re going to recognize many of the characters. Lauren Paley, their guest artist, posted a TikTok of her singing Hide and Seek and it went viral. So of course VoicePlay had to grab her and have her do a collaboration with them.
Brilliant Bob. Most of the reactions are by vocal coaches, but as someone who works with bands, you bring a new perspective. Brilliant.

Geoff from Voice Play just dropped a new one. It's called ... Ghost Riders In The Sky. It's his best one yet. People say that the foreground music is louder than the ghost in the background. I believe the whole concept of that is because the ghost are transparent & are far away in the sky so they aren't going to be as loud. Tell me what you think. Please do a reaction video of Geoff's cover to Ghost Riders In The Sky please. You will love it.

So happy to see you back with Voiceplay. This one was so much fun and just silly. This was Layne's (beatboxer) arrangement and vision, although the credits say that Geoff did additional arrangements. I think probaby that last swing part, but they haven't said.
They dropped their true Halloween piece today, I'm sure you will enjoy it!!

This is a lot of fun but it wasn't made for Hallowe'en. That one has been released today and is also a lot of fun. :) Elizabeth is not actually an opera singer but may have had some training in that direction.

Loved your musical insights for this, as I knew I would. Halloween belongs to VoicePlay & to Geoff (on his personal channel). I'm always amazed by the intensity they bring. This was another of Layne's arrangements/videos. They mostly alternate months, Geoff will arrange/do the video one month, and Layne the next. So - except when there are problems/delays - that's their time frame. 2 months for each production, although they seem to have more than that in the pipeline at any one time. Over the last 12-18 months Eli has been a lot more engaged behind the scenes, often doing the lighting and sometimes the set design and helping on arrangements and video editing. But yeah, it's a HUGE amount of work. And meanwhile, Geoff drops a performance almost every month on his personal channel (he works on those at night after he puts his son to bed) and Layne has a production company, PattyCake Productions, where he and his partner create videos and support other artists. A lot of VoicePlay's performances are also filmed at PattyCake, as are some of Geoff's. Seems to me that both of them are bringing equal parts genius, hard work and efficiency! (Not every set/costuming is this elaborate. But hey, it's Halloween!)

1:40 Can we seriously give Geoff some credit there for pulling off q VERY operatic "ah" vowel there? The man has some really talented pipes on him, and he's just got SUCH an acrobatic voice!
He sure is. He is my favorite because of the bass sounds he can produce. Incredible and he keeps working hard to go lower and lower.

Agreed! My first impression was definitely that she was an opera soprano, but she insists in responding to reactors that she's "just a session singer." I don't think she gives herself near enough credit!
she's a session singer, not an opera singer, and although she has a very good classical quality to her voice when she wants to (she clearly must have had classical training at some point) it's at the same time quite distinctly NOT opera. pure opera has a very distinct tone to it. but it sounds gorgeous with that classical quality!

The Mickey Mouse broomsticks song is The Sorcerer's Apprentice, which VoicePlay used to good effect by weaving it through their Pumpkins, Poppins & Sorcerer's medley on one of their older albums (hear it here ruclips.net/video/35PhFhN89OM/видео.html). But the Mountain King is certainly used in a lot of other cinematic places!

I think I’ve seen her respond to some comments on reaction videos where she says she’s not an opera singer. I could be wrong.
I also heard that she commented that Layne didn’t give her any “high notes “to sing but I haven’t been able to verify that.
@@janetdw she did say that, but that was before they recorded, the original arrangement didnt have the highest notes. Layne did add the high notes, so the high notes she sang in this were very high notes for her.

Great reaction - I really enjoy your comments. Elizabeth (i believe) has classical traing but not opera. She's in Voiceplay's 'Just Sing' (please, please watch with captions ON for who is who), and just dropped a short vid on her channel which is a collaboration with Layne and Pattycake. She did say "they didn't even ask me for my high notes'.

The piece in Fantasia with the dancing broomsticks is called The Sorcerers Apprentice, which is also well known and recognizable, though arguably not to the same extent as In The Hall of the Mountain King, which is almost as well known as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. Most of the music that's more famous and recognizable, people know it by name. One notable exception is the choral part from Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, which is a familiar melody to at least three quarters of the population of the entire planet, but only a tiny fraction knows the original title. (In the English speaking world, it's mostly known these days by a different title, Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.)
