    No, because let’s talk about it. None of the kids developed whatsoever. Emma stayed being snobby, selfish; and airheaded. Luke stayed being disgustingly unhygienic, misogynistic (although the show tried to portray him as a “Casanova”). And Zuri stayed being nosy, meddling, and cruel. Bertram had a right to hate the kids the way they constantly bullied, tormented, insulted, and belittled him for his job as a butler. I felt bad for Ravi in every single episode, because he was always the scapegoat. And I’m not even gonna talk about the sassy black girl stereotype they pushed on a CHILD in the show (which just screams misogynoir, or the nerdy Indian boy stereotype they gave Ravi, along with the fake accent and mocking of his culture on the show (which just screams racism and xenophobia). Morgan and Christina constantly neglected the kids, which caused them to be ungrateful troublemakers, and the fact that Jessie was a terrible nanny and barely disciplined them and constantly got them into dangerous situations didn’t help their awful personalities either. The show preache’s about the values of family and friendship while playing a laugh track over a sibling being mistreated. And finally, how could we forget Creepy Connie, a sexual assaulter and stalker of Luke. Whenever they played a laugh track over her being psychotic, it never sat right even for my child self. If Creepy Connie was a guy and Luke was a girl, everyone would absolutely despise and hate her character, but because she’s a girl, double standards come into play and it is taken with a grain of salt because “Men can’t be sexually assaulted and stalked, and if they are, it’s funny” *cue canned laugh track of Luke being chased around his own home by Creepy Connie who has a dart weapon*: And speaking of the double standards society has on sexual assault victims, I’m not even gonna get into Mrs. Chesterfield constantly sexually harassing Bertram, who is clearly uncomfortable with it.
    😑 And people wonder why I hate Jessie now, when I used to love it as a child. Anyways, sorry for the rant, this show has been getting on my nerves since I started seeing how problematic it truly was in 2016.

I quickly got over it, as it lasted for only about a few months, but I can assume that theres a LOT of little kids that don’t yet understand that it’s a problem to be that obsessed over someone. When I went back and watched it, I was incredibly uncomfortable. I saw another comment talking about how if the genders were switched it would have never happened, which I completely agree with. I basically grew up on that show, and so that show taught me that a lot of things that really aren’t ok, are perfectly fine. For example, I thought it was fine to act like Emma did. I actually did this for about two years. Emma was definitely one of my favorite characters, but now that I look back on it, it’s Ravi. I always hated the characters on this show. Now obviously this hurts to say because of the late Cameron Boyce, and not hate to him whatsoever. But like with the exception of Jessie herself and Bertram every single character were completely unlikable (and not in a way that made sense). Emma, Zuri and Luke being the worst ones. Especially Emma and Zuri. Don't get me wrong Jessie has her share of unlikable moments, namely during the final two seasons. But everyone else around her who isn't her boyfriend Tony and Bertram are just worse. Even their mom Christina was often mean to Jessie past season 1, especially that Season 2 episode where Emma hosted the fashion show and in the series finale. Even Ravi who was suppose to be the nice kid had episodes like Coffee Talk. Emma does develop a lot more in Bunk'd, which is nice.
    With Zuri she always got away with scheming, disobeying and being rude to Jessie. Especially in that body swap episode. Emma was always rude, selfish and loved insulting Jessie, especially when it came to her look knowing Jessie isn't good in relationships. As for Luke he was always protrayed as a casanova, despite being a misogynist.
    To me the episode that showcased the kids at their worst and made me question why Jessie even bothered was G.I. Jessie (quite possibly the most frustrating episode of the entire show) Rossed at Sea, Karate Kid-Tastrophe, Morning Rush, Evil Times Two and the Body Swap episode.

    • @Surgemaster2012
      @Surgemaster2012 3 года назад +47

      @@openspaces5263 Because GI Jessie is a frustrating episode and constantly tortures Jessie for no good reason. In this episode everyone who isn't Jessie are so one sided against her/unlikable. The Ross kids constantly disrespect her throughout the whole episode, from that kitchen scene where Zuri fights with Jessie when she tries to take the tray away, only to have the tray flip over in Jessie's face as the kids laugh at her and Zuri gives her a smug look when Jessie was only trying to disipline her.
      Then we have Emma who had just met a guy she barely knew for 5 seconds, only to claim Jessie is "ruining her relationship". I can understand from the perspective that Emma is a teenager and they do stupid things like that, but Emma does stuff like this constantly when she falls for a guy. How easily she turns against and disrespects Jessie happens too much to be considered "teenage stupidity".. Especially since one instance involved Emma locking Jessie in a room to be with a guy both of them liked!
      And despite the fact this is an event where they are meeting Jessie's dad, they don't care or listen to Jessie until she snaps and tells them she's had enough of their crap! Only then they decide to "care" because she quit.
      Then you have Jessie's father who comes off as a HUGE asshole. He's constantly one sidedly blaming Jessie for every little problem that goes on in the episode. He just expects Jessie to get along and respect her childhood Bully simply because he's marrying her mother, ignoring the fact the bully makes no obvious signs to not do the same. He never tells Jessie's bully Darla that she has to commit to the same amount of mutual respect, instead he just berates Jessie for insulting/fighting with Darla even when Darla is the one who insults Jessie or starts the conclit. Also its his daughters bully, why would she want to get along? What makes it even worse is her father is completely aware that she bullies Jessie, as one scene Jessie mentions to Darla's mother that Darla had once pushed her into a well only for her father to give her the "ahem" to make Jessie not saying anything mean about Darla.
      I can understand if Jessie's dad had no idea Darla was like that or was fooled because Darla put on an innocent facade, then from his perspective it would look like two people having a petty squabble, but no he's full aware of all of it, but just decides to be one sided against his own daughter for absolutely no reason! Especially once you realize he was the reason she left home to pursue her dream as an actress because he wasn't supportive of her dream, yet expects Jessie to do the same thing when he marries the mother of his own daughter's bully?
      It also goes against what was told about his character before he was revealed. He comes off as an abusive asshole in the episode, but seemed like a strict/stern, but loving military father by word of mouth.
      And no the ending does not save the episode because it felt like a Cop Out, all of a sudden Jessie just isn't blamed for everything, they never actively scold Darla for making a mean comment about her in front of their faces and despite crashing into the building before, all of a sudden they were completely okay with it when they weren't the first time.

    • @Surgemaster2012
      @Surgemaster2012 3 года назад +25

      @@openspaces5263 As for the Fashion episode. While the kids aren't horrible to Jessie their mother Christina certainly is. I listed it as an example because why would Jessie want to work for the Ross family when her own boss basically abuses her the entire episode?
      In Season 1 Christina genuinely seemed to care about Jessie, even to the point of defending Jessie from a bully nanny's hate blog. In this episode Christina treats Jessie like a servant, even to the point of making her wear a shock collar, then uses her as a human pin cushion. When she has Jessie put on a dress she tries to pin ends up pinning Jessie instead, she also spends the episode giving Jessie annoyed glares. Even when Jessie is shown struggling to carry some heavy fragile objects and asks for help in the end credits! She even ignores Jessie's story about bonding with her father!
      This just perceeded with Christina's future appearances, where she would seem to be annoyed by Jessie more often than not!

      YESS GI JESSIE OMFG. That series finale boils my blood. GI Jessie was the Season 2 finale, and I think it should’ve just ended with Jessie quitting like she said because she kids were constantly being rude, selfish, disrespectful, and disobedient during her stressful time when her enemy is about to become her stepsister, her dad doesn’t care that she got pushed out of a well and is mad that she chased her dreams in New York, her future mother in law takes the evil stepdaughter’s side all the time, Emma runs off with a random guy we never see in any other episode and gets herself trapped in a bomb Bunker with him, Luke and Zuri use a high tech military machine that causes damage and destruction, and Ravi just goes along without growing a spine and refusing to take part in their shenanigans, and of course Bertram and the military chef always insult Jessie for being “whiny” when she’s going through a tough transitional period of having a stepfamily and her father marrying someone else other than her late mother. 😤

    On kids emulating the characters they watch, I did that so much. When I watched iCarly, I wanted to be Sam so bad. I spent a lot of time emulating Sam and even had a butter sock at one point that was actually full of rocks because I couldn't find the butter in my house.😂 I kinda knew the whole time that my personality was much closer to Freddie's, but I didn't want to admit that for years. I especially related to Freddie in the episode where Sam played pranks on him and called him "Gullible Freddie." I had a best friend throughout elementary school and middle school who would constantly trick me into believing random things she said and would always laugh and say "Oh Ren, you're so gullible." Needless to say, I became very self-conscious of that. I wish I could've said that particular iCarly episode helped me feel less alone in my gullibility as a kid, but it didn't because Freddie gets pranked the entire episode and the show frames it as being ok. Even when Freddie got upset, it was depicted as him overreacting to good fun. If anything, that episode made me want to be more like Sam than ever because Sam had the upper hand the whole time. I know I'm commenting under a video about Jessie, but the point about kids emulating characters they watch and parents not wanting their kids to watch certain shows because of it really hits home. Don't hate the show, and no shade to Cameron Boyce, but man I only liked Jessie, Bertham, and Ravi. Emma was okay-ish at times but her school goth friend (what was her name, was better than her).
    Zuri just reminded me of all the black girls who enforced #Notblackenough in elementary, Luke was legit toxic middle school ego syndrome.
    Tony was alright. Did he and Jessie get together.

    I feel like a lot of Disney and Nickelodeon shows from this era (early 2010s) didn’t age well. There were some really good ones but most of them had at least 1 negative trope. As much as I love Phineas and Ferb the whole Baljeet and Beaufort relationship was awful. It was funny to me as a kid who didn’t know any better but to laugh at whatever they showed on the screen, but after thinking back on it I realized how bad it must have been for South Asian kids, or nerdy kids, or kids who were being bullied to watch that. And don’t even get me started on the whole sexualization of Ariana Grande on Victorious or the whole Dan Schneider situation and how Skai Jackson has unfortunately become the character she was forced to play.

    Is it weird that I always felt like Zuri didn't like being black??? Like. She didn't want an African birthday party to celebrate where she came from. She wanted the basic princess and pony show that she got every year instead, which, for a kid, is fine and understandable, but at the same time, I felt like Zuri needed to embrace the fact that she WAS black AND from Africa. It's like she was white washing her background. Idk. Maybe I'm wrong. It's just my opinion though.
    Also, let's not forget just how awful of a person Emma Ross is because she had the episode where she was dating a bad boy in the 1st or 2nd season, and in S4, she had that episode that was kind of like a copy and paste of the bad boy episode I mentioned minus the boy drama. Emma literally needed to get her blonde (and purple/blonde wig) hair snatched and talked to like the child that she is. I literally wanted to reach through my tv and do something I shouldn’t do as an adult, cause I would've smacked Emma for talking to me how she was talking to Jessie. Jessie is a whole ass, grown ass woman, and could NOT control those kids.
    Morgan and Christina were awful parents who were never there. And tbh, the series finale of Jessie was shit because Christina probably didn't keep her word either. Talking about how she was going to stay home and be with her children more. Nah, because the first chance she got, those kids got thrown into camp. In hindsight, it was Summer Camp, but still!!! You're supposed to be at home with your kids, right? That goes for the summer too. The fuck?
    And Jessie was a very bad nanny for them and the "lessons" she kept teaching them never stuck. And I see why because she never stuck with what she said. Every time the words "I quit!" spewed from her mouth, she would be right back being mistreated, and disrespected by those knucklehead, bad ass children. It very much needs to be talked about how bad of a show this is for children because it absolutely is a hot mess.

      I don't think she did, I mean, just look at how she wore her hair! 😍 But I do see how she could feel like that. I think most Black kids felt like that once, it's not about hating being Black, it's about internalizing racism. But I do think she got over it. Also she shouldn't be forced to have any type of birthday party that she doesn't want anyway.

    As much as I loved watching Jessie growing up, I did feel as though the children never really had any character growth. Emma would continue to be snobby and look down upon others. Luke would continue to be lazy, unproductive, and arrogant. Zuri would be rude whenever she felt like it, and still never really changed. A few instances with Zuri, was when Ravi wanted her to take of Mrs Kipling's baby's, but Zuri decided to just let them loose. I'm not saying Ravi, didn't have any issues, but what I am saying is that he was handed the short end of the stick most of the time, and the same even happened in Bunk'd, maybe not as much, but still. Ravi deserved better.

    Did anyone else hate the episode where they went to Jessie's dad's wedding and she had a breakdown and didn't wanna work for them anymore cuz they were being unruly and selfish cuz she just wanted the trip to be stress-free and they guilted her into being their slave for the rest of the shows run? I was actively rooting for Jessie to just leave the family at that point cuz they treated her like garbage.
