- The first full scene we've seen from the Mario Movie.
This new preview scene showcased a lot more of the (presumably) final sound effects and music from the movie - and there is a clear step up from the trailers, for sure. Yet...Chris Pratt somehow disappointed me even more.
Anyways, here we are again with another Mario Game Sounds edit!
I've replaced all sounds, music & voices with sounds from throughout the Mario games series. This one was a lot of fun to do, hopefully you guys enjoy this peek at what the movie COULD sound like if they stuck truer to the legacy characterizations.

I think its cool how the movie is now giving all the toads a distinct voice. It helps them feel more alive

That "Princess" at the end from Mario convinced me Charles Martinet could work in a full movie if he pitched his voice down slightly from the usual Mario voice.
My favorite moment of the whole thing is that end section leading up to that line. I know he would deliver some amazing line reads.

The editing for this is amazing, you were really spot on with the sound clips! When I watched this with Pratt's voice I know I was pulling a face the entire time, but actually hearing Mario going through this clip near put me in stitches. I really wish Universal and Nintendo would just let Charles be Mario like he deserves and we want.

Even if they didn't get Charles, they shouldn't have gone for Pratt. With respect, Chris Pratt isn't cast for his voice, he's cast for his face. In an animated film, your face doesn't matter, and with a license like SUPER MARIO you don't need the star power to get people to the theater. Huge swing and miss imo.
This is really well done but I think I finally understand why hearing this Mario voice for 2 hours would be hell
Well to be fair to Charles, these are all pulled from out of context. I do genuinely think he'd give some great line reads if he was in studio doing a session for a narrative versus grunts and short exclamations.
That's exactly what the fans and Sonic fans didn't understand. These movies are ment to target all audience including the Ugly Sonic movie 2019 it wasn't ment for fans it was ment to retell the stories in a different way just to get people to have fun and watch a good movie. But legit everyone hated Ugly Sonics design which I thought was the coolest Sonic design by far for a real world. The companies are afraid to do there own thing and have backlash.
But Disney wouldn't give a dam they would just make it and not care what people think or say. They can take all backlash. They are a strong and wise company and facing reality while others so sensitive.
I rather have voice actor from CDi and used DiC actors like Lou Albano and Walker Boone. Or just don’t used Mario voice at all like they did on SNES and NES using SFX and Charles Martinet SFX

The best toad voice was Mario kart 64, but the “hehe here I go” was hilarious

I truly enjoy hearing video game sounds from the game it’s freaking awesome and creative, but I’m very very glad to hear a different style of Mario’s voice as well. I’m enjoying a bit of separation besides grunts groans and yelp’s. This is great still by the way. I feel this movie will have a chance to be good as it is AND with creative people like you, a chance to remix it into another version

This is great proof that Martinet wouldn't work for a full length feature film.
Yeah, Mario's regular voice and speech patterns just wouldn't work for a full film, and hearing him speak full sentences for 2 hours would be weird
As much as I enjoy these as video game sounds, as a movie it sounds very hollow.
Having the original music probably would have resulted in a copyright strike and made it harder to dub Mario's voice clips; but honestly, you can't improve the score to that scene; they really knocked it outta the park with the music!
Agreed - the official score seems to be 100x above and beyond that trailer tune they've been using, in terms of quality AND sticking to the legacy melodies. Loved the toad house rendition they used so much that I couldn't bring myself to use the original in this one lol that's why I opted for the Paper Mario Toad Town theme

It's amazing that there are lots of voice tracks that can fit into this clip... now that's the power of 30 years of the recording of the characters...
Now I see why they changed it. Some things just don't work in movie form.

This was so much fun! Can't wait until the redub of the entire movie comes out! No seriously because Chris Pratt is barely an actor and CERTAINLY not a voice actor, and a full length feature of him will no doubt expose this fact more than the trailers have. That said, I'll still probably head to the theater for this one because Jack Black as Bowser is too good to pass up.

Everyone knows that Charles Martinet, as much as we love him, doing the voice of Mario for 90 minutes with long lengths of dialogue would have been near intolerable.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's going to be sprinkled all throughout - which does feel like it will make up for the pratt pain a little bit.

I've been trying to make a good ai voice clone of Charles' mario voice for this for dialogue, but so far it hasn't really worked lol

This is really well done, I’d have really liked if we got a film where Charles Martinet voices him in a less exaggerated high pitched voice like at 0:50 (except when he’s screaming, that pipe bit was great)

@@TheMaskedThearpist no, it’s actually perfect. The original voice only works for video games, not movies. It would be annoying as hell to hear that for 2 hours. I like that the new voice is more mellow mixed in with some hints of the original. I grew up in the 80’s and I’m a huge Mario fan, no one can tell me anything. the movie looks and sounds perfect.

It’s funny because it’s not.
I actually think it's a bit dissonant due to the fact that Mario acts much more "humanly" now than on games. So having a "normal" voice for Mario would be more fitting for a 130 min long animation film than the Martinet's iconic voice. I also don't agree that Patt's voice is good either.

Mario has already acted as humanly before as he does in this part of the movie, and with the voice of Charles. if the point is a deeper voice, he still could have done it in the movie. but the marketing about Hollywood actors is what is most ''worth'' for movies nowadays...

Keegan does a great job as Toad but there is something funnier about imagining him saying these lines. That and it's so refreshing to hear Charles again after so long. Pratt has been stuck in my head and I hate it.

I like the voice of these Mario characters in the Super Mario Movie vs the real actors playing their voices. The person making the real Super Mario should edit it.
I think we can all agree, something like this would probably be best left on a bonus DVD as most parents will get tired of listening to this on streaming over and over again 100 minutes at a time. I have to say I applaud your work in showing why they made a good decision making the voice change.

The reason why he has my beloved NY accent instead of the strong Italian accent is because Mario and Luigi are originally from My City and Borough. Brooklyn, NY. And they’re Plumbers. Just like the Old 90’s Live Action/Animated series and the freakishly awfully good live action movie. Lol

Yeah I think the toads are a bit rough especially, because there's so few actual dialogue lines from him to pull from that I had to finagle a lot of the grunts/screams lol
but I'm willing to die on the Charles Martinet hill, he would definitely have been able to deliver if he had been given the chance.

This is pretty good, but i think im gonna love chris pratts performance since it actually seems like he's improved way more from the trailers and while I understand that this mario voice is more Iconic, they were going for a more Brooklyn, less Italian
I'm hoping to be surprised by Chris Pratt in the final edit, I definitely WANT the best movie we can get, whoever it is.
I don't get it, where's the spoken dialogue? All I hear are the characters making random noises or saying random things. It would be nice if these characters sounded a bit differently and had a better sounding voice that is easier to listen to while talking. 😉
Yeah unfortunately I can't find a good AI/TTS voice for the characters, so I had to make due with the existing voice clip library. Ideally, I'd keep the script intact for a real overdub.

Just to remind anyone who needs it - Charles is an accomplished commercial/comedic/dramatic actor besides the iconic grunts and wahoos of Mario. He CAN read a script lol
