Tried it out for the first time yesterday and I’m absolutely frothing about the footages. Thank you so much Dan! Stoked the video helped. I can’t recall mentioning anything in my last videos about the settings. I’ve been running the right settings on the 10 since I got it. It just has all these other issues (off/on glitch, water drops, battery life etc) still a great camera but needs these other things fixed to be an amazing camera (which it should be)
I don’t surf but I do use race boards and I just ordered the GoPro hero 10 and floaty and mouth mount and floaty stick I can’t wait to capture povs thanks for this vid!

My pleasure legend!! A bonus tip that I’ve done since this video was released is I bought and still use to this day a “hero 9 lens cover” so you can lick and dunk it. That’s the biggest problem with the 10, 11 & 12. The hydrophobic lens still gets water drops so the hero 9 which you can put on super easy let’s you lick it and get rid of waterdrops completely 🙌🏽

@@SurfingWithNoz quick update. It was way too big for me. I got absolutely smashed and got scared quickly. I got out and my heart was pumping so fast. There is no point to go surfing if you are going to be scared. Surfing is supposed to be fun and relaxing. It reminded me of your q&a when someone asked you why you don’t surf big waves.

The floaty works great and after spending countless hours in the surf with a GoPro, I know exactly how to hold it and make sure it doesn’t get away haha 🙌🏽 But they’re definitely handy for sure, especially if you don’t trust your mouth or the waves are just huge!

Hey Noz! Might be a silly question but here goes.... I got a goPro 8 and want to make some POV surf videos. By looking at your setup , Im guessing the go pro 8 is fully waterproof as is and does not need extra waterproof covers? So I only need the mouthpiece and orange floating device ? and maybe a leash , because I’m a noob ;) Love your videos brother!!
Hey bro! No question is a silly question. You are correct, it’s 100% waterproof (down to 10m I think) as is. Yes the orange floaty and mouth piece is all you need! And to be safe a leash is a good idea. Not sure if GoPro sells them but Ho Stevie from the US sells them on his website… under that name 😅 All the best bro! Keen to see some content from you ✌🏽
Awesome video, I just spoke to gopro and they are going to send a hero 9 replacement lens protector, which shouldn't have the hydrophobic coating but is compatible with the 10, that coating sucks! - you could maybe burn it off with a lighter

@@SurfingWithNoz Just got a 9 lens, they are called ADCOV-001, the hydrophobic ones are ADCOV-002, I tried a lighter on my spare one to get the coating off and it didn't work. The 9 is the same lens cover, just without the hydro stuff so it shouldn't affect quality - it's just a protective cover, cheers bro🤙
Great video, perfect explanation of settings and everything. The water droplet thing is super annoying...I don't know if you watch Kai Noa but he has the GoPro 8 and he literally never has a water droplet. I used the have the 5 and also didn't ever have any droplets, but with the 10 I have a lot. The new coating is awful hahaha. Awesome videos still though, you have some of the best POV footage on youtube by far.

The 10 is fked though so been using the 8 again but just doesn’t capture the same quality as the 10. Wish they fixed this. yo lad try EV comp on -5. that's worked for BASE jumping, skydiving and not even sport photography for me. i do the same with iso 100-400 i used to do it when i worked taking photos skydiving with slr's. you know my channel's all about kegs so i keep the frame rate as high as possible, not just for slomos but also it captures the droplets and things and gives the video an almost surreal appearance, but not so much as it looks tweaked. i just got the 11. i wish i could show you them but i'm sitting on a few tubes already, they are the best i've had yet, but on the 11 i can film 60fps in 4k, which i couldn't i was doing the same as you 2.7k on the gopro 9. but i almost like the footage i used to get. i'll send you a link when a get a few more and finish this next vid but it just doesn't look as natural. plus it's harder to keep water on the lens no matter how much i spit on it. i'm same as you i can't run a leash it just gets in the way. i just plastered my ugly orange float with my phone number and the promise of a reward haha. anyway my question was i didn't have the hyperview feature on the 9, and i think it might warp the edges too much in my new footage. i dropped it back to super for the next sesh, as i've never filmed 4k either so i'm not sure atm. any suggestions? plus do you just have boost for smooth or the newest? cos i don't like it too smooth
Yeah bro you can’t spit on the Hero 10 and 11 lenses. Since it’s hydrophobic there’s nothing you can do except keep it really clean before each session (this is what the goat, Anthony Walsh told me). But I bought a hero 9 lens cover for like $18 two months ago and walla back to normal again haha GoPro really stuffed up! At least we’re able to have interchangeable lenses on the 10 and above. I did see someone else say this in the comment section and you said you’d try it… so just confirming with you that it DOES work and is the only way to get rid of water drops. And yeah I still prefer to shoot in 2.7k over 4K… I watch all Nathan Florence’s even JOBs POVs and they upload in 1080p and the footage is terrible. I’ve commented multiple times telling them to shoot and upload in 1440 (2.7k) but they obviously haven’t seen it or their editors are just idiots haha. Their videos surfing chopes/pipeline would be the most INSANE footage if they posted in 2.7 or 4K

The cameras are waterproof down to 10 metres which no surfer will ever reach! I’ve used my hero 8 and 10 in the water for probably over 1000 hours now without any additional case and they’re perfectly fine 🤙🏽
That’s impossible for it for without zooming. If you’ve seen my shorts/TikTok’s I put a zoomed in and blurred version behind it so there’s no black squares
Hey mate, nice vid cheers, i am having problems with my go pro 10 black doing all sorts of weird things, u said yours was turning itself on & off i’m getting that too, literally till the battery is dead, sometimes on longer vids its freezing on that frame but u can still hear the audio along with a random screen flicker here & there, pretty sure i’m past 1 year so that counts me out of getting it replaced under warrantee but any chance u know what my options are ie who to call, where to get repaired etc, cheers
Thanks mate! Bro that’s sucks. I’d go on the GoPro website ASAP and contact them over the phone. Surely they’ll be able to do something even after warranty but the people I’ve spoken to were pretty hopeless so don’t have any high expectations. I really hope you get it resolved though!! That sucks

I don’t touch the colours on my videos. I just shoot in vibrant. But I do have a friend who is a professional colour grader so could definitely do something with him 🤙🏽
No it doesn’t. You just have the ability to slow it down. Even if you shot at 120+ fps you can still play it normally. When you edit though you’re able to slow it down 4x or 25%

It would fall out of your mouth haha. It’s very easy to hold in your mouth though. And it has a floaty case around it so it would float
quikcapture is the best thing to use so you can save battery life, pretty sure your battery would run out too fast if you don't use it

Great video, perfect explanation of settings and everything. The water droplet thing is super annoying...I don't know if you watch Kai Noa but he has the GoPro 8 and he literally never has a water droplet. I used the have the 5 and also didn't ever have any droplets, but with the 10 I have a lot. The new coating is awful hahaha. Awesome videos still though, you have some of the best POV footage on youtube by far.
Thank you so much Aidan! I really appreciate the kind words bro. Yeah most of my footage was filmed with the 8 up until this year, so water drops have only just become a problem the last 6 months. The 10 is fked though so been using the 8 again but just doesn’t capture the same quality as the 10. Wish they fixed this. Apparently you can get the 9 lens and put it on the 10 but haven’t tried it yet

yo lad try EV comp on -5. that's worked for BASE jumping, skydiving and not even sport photography for me. i do the same with iso 100-400 i used to do it when i worked taking photos skydiving with slr's. you know my channel's all about kegs so i keep the frame rate as high as possible, not just for slomos but also it captures the droplets and things and gives the video an almost surreal appearance, but not so much as it looks tweaked. i just got the 11. i wish i could show you them but i'm sitting on a few tubes already, they are the best i've had yet, but on the 11 i can film 60fps in 4k, which i couldn't i was doing the same as you 2.7k on the gopro 9. but i almost like the footage i used to get. i'll send you a link when a get a few more and finish this next vid but it just doesn't look as natural. plus it's harder to keep water on the lens no matter how much i spit on it. i'm same as you i can't run a leash it just gets in the way. i just plastered my ugly orange float with my phone number and the promise of a reward haha. anyway my question was i didn't have the hyperview feature on the 9, and i think it might warp the edges too much in my new footage. i dropped it back to super for the next sesh, as i've never filmed 4k either so i'm not sure atm. any suggestions? plus do you just have boost for smooth or the newest? cos i don't like it too smooth
Yeah bro you can’t spit on the Hero 10 and 11 lenses. Since it’s hydrophobic there’s nothing you can do except keep it really clean before each session (this is what the goat, Anthony Walsh told me).
But I bought a hero 9 lens cover for like $18 two months ago and walla back to normal again haha GoPro really stuffed up! At least we’re able to have interchangeable lenses on the 10 and above.
I did see someone else say this in the comment section and you said you’d try it… so just confirming with you that it DOES work and is the only way to get rid of water drops. And yeah I still prefer to shoot in 2.7k over 4K… I watch all Nathan Florence’s even JOBs POVs and they upload in 1080p and the footage is terrible. I’ve commented multiple times telling them to shoot and upload in 1440 (2.7k) but they obviously haven’t seen it or their editors are just idiots haha. Their videos surfing chopes/pipeline would be the most INSANE footage if they posted in 2.7 or 4K
And I forget which hypersmooth mode but I think it’s on STANDARD… people have problems if they use BOOST or the highest ones 🤙🏽

Do you find the camera is waterproof enough for surfing without buying the case? I just bought a hero 9 and the mouth float.
The cameras are waterproof down to 10 metres which no surfer will ever reach! I’ve used my hero 8 and 10 in the water for probably over 1000 hours now without any additional case and they’re perfectly fine 🤙🏽

That’s impossible for it for without zooming. If you’ve seen my shorts/TikTok’s I put a zoomed in and blurred version behind it so there’s no black squares

I would not recommend it. The mouth mount is by far the best! The head strap could easily come off when bailing on waves

Hey mate, nice vid cheers, i am having problems with my go pro 10 black doing all sorts of weird things, u said yours was turning itself on & off i’m getting that too, literally till the battery is dead, sometimes on longer vids its freezing on that frame but u can still hear the audio along with a random screen flicker here & there, pretty sure i’m past 1 year so that counts me out of getting it replaced under warrantee but any chance u know what my options are ie who to call, where to get repaired etc, cheers
Thanks mate! Bro that’s sucks. I’d go on the GoPro website ASAP and contact them over the phone. Surely they’ll be able to do something even after warranty but the people I’ve spoken to were pretty hopeless so don’t have any high expectations. I really hope you get it resolved though!! That sucks

I had the same problem with a completely new gopro, turning itself on and of, the problem was a damaged SD card
Too many problems with those things. Mine dies at 30% everytime now and goes from like 100% to 60% in 20 minutes

No it doesn’t. You just have the ability to slow it down. Even if you shot at 120+ fps you can still play it normally. When you edit though you’re able to slow it down 4x or 25%
