When this came out, my father looked right at me and said, "Don't even ask, kid." Lol
Lol too funny! Ya I didn’t even try to ask!
And then my mom bought it for me, trying to hide that didn't last long hahaha
@@thetvbaby83 lol I bet. What a huge box!!!
@@woodman29 one day I'm gonna do the upgrades and put wheels on it. Gotta wait for room tho, I got kids now 😆

One of the rich kids at school got the USS FLAGG for Christmas. That thing was so massive (we were boys) but I remember less than a year later his aircraft carrier was all in broken pieces , scattered around his room. I also remember seeing the USS FLAGG in the Sears Christmas Catalog and wanted it SO badly!
Ya I knew a kid like that too. He had EVERYTHING ( spoiled rotten)
I had to wait until I was an adult to acquire my Flagg! Thanks for the comment and view!
That's an amazing display. Great attention to detail on the customized areas! Awesome center piece for you.

Thanks buddy I absolutely appreciate that coming from you!!
Loved the tour! 😎😎😎
I love your Flagg as well. I saw your tour on the Chasing 80s channel! Great collection!! Thanks for the comment!!😁😁
I remember being in playworld an begging my mother to buy this for my birthday ! The box was the biggest thing I've v ever seen ! 🤯🤯
I remember the price tag back then it was $ 99.99
But I never got the aircraft carrier ! 😥 !!
But I did have almost every other
gi Joe vehicle an figures !
I still have some of the stuff in the basement in boxes.
I think my aunt has the terror dome in her garage ! ( it was put there when we moved . An there is where it stayed til this day ! ) lolol.
I remember taking my moms couch apart an using the cushions as the base for the terror dome island ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🫡🫡🫡🫡
Anyway the video was fantastic an brought back some awesome memories from when i was kid.!!!! .. ( 47 now )
I really enjoy hearing the memories that folks have! That’s awesome that you still have some of you childhood collections, (most don’t ). I love the couch idea, damn never thought of that lol!! Thank you for the kind words as well! 😁😁👊
I was pretty late to the 1/18 scale party. I played a lot when I was a kid and only started collecting last year. I appreciate you sharing your well-maintained vintage collection because it is rare to find video showcases like this presented in a very entertaining way!
Thanks for the kind words Milehigh! 😁
Posted one year and still awesome to watch, great work.
Thank you ROBERT!😁😁
Amazing!!!!
Thank you so much👊😁
I recently got my USS Flagg up for display on my custom riser. I forgot to put the support for the superstructure there are no doors down there and I used 2x4s so it’s not that high up. I am going to make my modifications this weekend now to include the strips to keep it from sliding. I had to wait til I was 40 to get mine but I do still have my Defiant General and 92 headquarters along with most of my smaller vehicles. Thank god for my parents having a basement and my dad having the organization skills that I could sort all that stuff out! He was in the Air Force and worked on the SR-71 Blackbird so he’s got his stuff really together lol. I now have a Terror Drome and it really is still just as fulfilling now as it was as a kid having this stuff for me. Now I’m just working on getting shelves and tables arranged in my basement so it’s not a cluttered mess of Joe and Star Wars stuff everywhere! Thanks for the great video! I really enjoyed it.
Wow thanks BEER CAN! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It’s really great that you were/are able to have such a variety of your childhood collection! I too was blessed with great parents and was able to keep a lot of my stuff! I’d love to see your collection once all set up! Feel free to post on my Facebook page when the time comes! 😁😁

Thanks CHRIS I’m glad u enjoyed it
I'm 45 now and I still wish I could have had something like that as a kid in the 80s.
Having been born and raised in Germany, I could only dream of toys like that. For one, obviously "militaristic" toys were forbidden, but also was stuff just way more expensive in Germany than it was in the USA, for whatever reason.
For example, I was shocked to learn as an adult that the "Castle Greyskull" playset from the "Masters of the Universe" toy line apparently cost 25 US Dollars in the States, while it cost something like 150 Deutschmarks (which back then were about 75 to 80 Dollars) in Germany, so 3 times as much.
A play set of the size and seeming quality of this aircraft carrier here would probably have cost near 1000 Deutschlmarks / 500 Dollars in Germany back then, if it would have been sold there.
I was always so flabbergasted and envious when I saw American kid's rooms in movies like "E.T.", "Poltergeist" or "The Goonies" filled to the ceiling with hundreds of action figures, toy planes and other such stuff, while I, despite being from a middle class family, could only afford a few of those things.
I had a Castle Greyskull set, maybe 2 dozen action figures and 3 or 4 vehicles and that was a lot by German standards of the time. My parents really splurged when they got me Greyskull, a "Wind Rider" and my first 4 Masters of the Universe action figures for Christmas in ..... I think it must have been 1983 or so.
I always find it interesting how different cultures had different rules. I was raised to appreciate everything we got as we were not “well off’ or rich. I’m glad you shared your story and liked the video !
@@woodman29 Yeah, I suppose I come across as unappreciative, but I'm just talking about wishes and desires I had as a kid.
When I say my family was middle class, that is probably bad communication on my part, because it will conjure images of modest wealth to an American reading it, which would not be correct in regards to what a German would call middle class.
By American standards we probably were dirt poor.
My parents had decent jobs (he was a tool maker and she was a accountant) but living standards have always been considerably lower in Germany than they were in the USA.
The average German worker makes about 2/3 (66%) of what a American doing the same job makes, pays way more taxes and pays a lot more for necessities like gasoline and housing.
I never got into this Comic Book Super Hero trend that swept international pop culture for the last 15 years or so, because I never was a comic book kid in my childhood. I just couldn't afford them.
The average comic book back then cost about 5 to 8 Deutschmarks. My weekly allowance was 2 Deutschmakrs (1 US Dollar). Even as a kid I realized that the 5 to 10 minutes of reading enjoyment I would get out of a comic book was not worth blowing all my allowance for 2 to 4 weeks for, hehe.
Most of my childhood was climbing around in castle ruins, fencing other kids with tree branches and sticks, or running around the woods throwing pine cones at each other.
Sorry for boring you with this. I just wanted to point out that I'm not coming at this from a greedy rich kid perspective, at least I don't think so.
@@TrangleC no problem I understood what you were saying!! Thank you again 😃👊
I was one of the locky kid to have one of these when it came out. My father was a lifer in the army and him snd some of the other NCO's got together and bought me one because i was having a surgery that was going to leave me homebound for a few months. I was the talk of the military base when it came to the other boys for a while after that!
Wow that’s awesome!! Thank you for sharing! I would of loved to have this when I was a kid lol 👊😁
@@woodman29 I think my pops was trying to train me to follow in his footsteps on the military. For my 18th birthday he took me to the army recruiter! However my pops was one of those crusty old drill instructors that spent a few days too long in Vietnam! The more the recruiter talk the more I heard my dad when he was training GI's and I couldn't do it. I spent a couple of decades working in mental health before going into a underground coal mine. My pops was heartbroken for years because his boy didn't turn out to be a tanker too!
I was never able to have one of these.. this is so badass.. I juat recently started going through old Joe's that I had in storage, of course I started looking on RUclips.. this is awsome. These are like 2k on ebay. This is set up great. The mods look good..

My brother and I shared a room with a bunk bed as kids, so we could have a room just for the Flagg!
Lol that must of been awesome! I didn’t dare ask for one, I would of had to sleep on it 😂😂
Between us we had probably 90% of the ARAH figures and vehicles. Unfortunately hurricane Katrina decided to wipe out everything in storage from our childhood, but we still have the memories! Been trying to slowly rebuild the collection over the last year or so, but prices are stupid high these days!
@@DareDevilDave75 wow I’m sorry to hear that !
You are correct the prices are way too high for most of the JOES items. I’ve been blessed with most of my childhood items and slowly filling in the blanks! Gonna do a collection vid soon if interested!
I have always regarded the U.S.S. Flagg as a work of art, and the stuff childhood dreams are made of.
The arcade games in the quarters are a nice touch! Pure 1980s goodness there.
Marauder is an awesome place. I tend to describe it as a "build a bear for G.I. Joes". I'm slowly making a wish list there, as I have many custom figures ideas I'd like to pursue.
Build a bear. What a great analogy!! I’d love to see your custom build figures!! Yup definitely need arcade games, boy did I spend a lot of quarters back in the day! 😂😂

Would Not be surprised today All the parts you mention are lost today or can be lost. Can be replicated now. With Mold casting & 3D printing. Am not surprised if people made stuff for the flagg.I saw that when I was in Vegas Think they wanted 2 grand for it
True, with all the modern equipment like 3d printers and such. Folks can make a lot of these parts. 2 grand? Yikes! 😁😂
The sounds are all clear, air raid, and general quarters. there are no backup alarms on aircraft carriers. I had a Flagg as a kid, no we weren't rich, parents put it on layaway before Christmas. As a side note, I also cruised on 2 aircraft carriers in real life as a Marine as well. Nothing like living your favorite child hood toy and movie(Top Gun) as an adult.

It definitely is 😁👊
USS Intrepid has a really nice setup too! Too bad GI Joe didn’t make 2 types of carriers, one for jets and the other for helicopters and amphibious vehicles.
Another great reason to build the lower deck! Space for more vehicles! Lol😁😁
This colossal 7-ft. long G.I. Joe "U.S.S. Flagg" aircraft carrier playset by Hasbro was a must-have for 80's kids everywhere. Not to mention a financial drain on their parents, considering how expensive the gosh darn thing probably was.
I think it was around $100 bucks back then which was definitely a lot of money! 👊😁
The Holy Grail couldn't look any better!

I wanted this so bad when I was a kid. My dad wouldn't even buy me any of the vehicles, planes, or helicopters much less this, lol. If it didn't fit in my little toy box in the closet forget it. I am envious of you sir. My little girl says this is still cool.
Thank you TIMOTHY she’s a beast! I feel your pain there was no way my parents would get me this back in the 80s lol! Your little girl is correct😁😁👍
Nice review! The Flagg is an iconic playset and you really did it justice. However, I personally think the 1987 Mobile Command Center is the zenith playset. I have it and every now and then I open it up and play with it. I also review toys on my channel btw, including GI JOEs.
Thank you CHRONO. you are correct the MCC is a great vehicle as well! I just subbed to your channel!
The Dixie Cup hats on your crew are a nice touch but I'd personally go with the blue ballcaps that Marauders sells.

Very thoughtful job with the routing and jointing. It looks like you used a CAD or some other way to mock-up the layout of the truss supports - is there a way to share the dimensions?
Thanks JOSH to be honest all I did was trace out the footprints and locations of the truss system. Unfortunately I had to setup and take down the FLAGG twice to accomplish this! No measurements just my years of woodworking 😁😁
amazing job. try to post in 4k!!! 😉🤩
Thank you!
If your parents bought this for you, you were the happiest kid on the block!
I wish lol!!
I remain astonished that some madlad hasn't taken out his tape measure, modern power tools and maybe a 3d Printer and built himself a 1/12 Scale GI Joe Classified USS Flag. I mean just from looking at it it's really not that hard of a Modeling Project. With a CNC Lathe or Lasercutter you could probably even bang it out in kit form. And for those wondering what to do for Planes? Those 2 larger ships from the Lightyear movie paint up into excellent 1/12 Joe aircraft. Plus there's always the 2 seater GI Joe Snowspeeder.
Lol I’m sure someone will try it! Heck if I didn’t own one I’d probably build one out of wood!!
@@woodman29 If you really want to go big, build it so it can double as a gaming table in your Mancave. Give it the Hanger deck and a Vehicle and Well Deck below. Make the top deck out of a nice countertop surface.

Heya Woodman 29. Great video! Might you have the schematics / dimensions for building the custom base? I am planning to do one over the holidays! Please and thank you.
Hi JEFFREY. I unfortunately don’t have any measurements/schematics. I had to set up the FLAGG on a large blank paper then trace out all the footprints (trusses, bow, stern and shape of ship) that way the base matched perfectly. It is a pain setting it up and taking it apart to accomplish this but absolutely worth it! Good luck and Happy Holidays!
@@woodman29 Thank you very much for your reply. So did you do it in 2 separate tracings? Like the deck first when flat on the ground then add the trusses, bow, stern, and shape?
@@jeffreyenright3857 negative I traced the deck all in one. I rigged a long pencil to a dowel. The deck doesn’t have to be perfect especially if you going to round off the edges of ur custom base!

I grew up in the 60s. Our version of GI Joe was more detailed, bigger and had cool accessories. This version were just cheap toys.
I absolutely appreciate the incredible detail on the OG joe figures!
This toy was anything but cheap, ask any parent.
@nikholman1287 agreed!👍
I think its a bit underwhelming. It's got it's big size but nothing much can be done with it or move it. I think a C-130 that could fit a lot of figures and early vehicles like the VAMP and AWE, had guns and bombs like the AC-130 spectre, etc would have had more play value
