    I had two of these monstrosities. I named the second carrier, the USS MOOSE KNUCKLE. With a ten pound bag of fertilizer, a couple slices of Irish Spring and a flashlight wired to to a lump of fertilizer in the haul I blew it up! I told my parents Fire Fly and Storm Shadow did it.

    My dad and I built mine back in the day, a friend had one and we went over and measured it, The flight deck was Lauan, and the walls were 1X4's scraps double high. My uncle worked construction and we got all the wood for nothing so all we had to do was buy the paint and glue. My cousin's grandson still has it.

    I don't know the numbers that Hasbro made in the accounting department in the 25th anniversary re-launch of 2007-2008, but most of the classic play-sets were thrown out the window without any consideration; they would have made tens of millions and was the perfect opportunity to introduce the Pulse GI JOE pre-order campaigns, of course, if it had not been for the financial crisis of those years, but for the 30th anniversary (2012-2013), the deal would have been very different. In the Classified format, it is simply impossible to be able to pay for them; no one is going to give a $200-$300 vehicle so that the "children" play for a while. Hasbro's management has killed the property year after year. As much as I would have liked to have been able to buy more of the new versions of the Sky Striker and the Tomahawk, they did not even give me the opportunity. There were very few units to sell from the beginning, all for less than $50-a wonderful deal today; now they want one eye and arm for any vehicle-theft in broad daylight!

    • @holonet1
      @holonet1 7 месяцев назад +4

      Idk where you were about 12 years ago, but the 30th Sky Striker was at Target for $34.99 & a year later at TJ Max & Marshalls for $24.99. I bought like 12 of them. The Eagle Hawk was at TRU for $42.99 in 2013 & eventually went on green sticker clearance. I bought several as well. Some at $30, $22, $16 & even $7. If you've been collecting for the last 15 years or so. There was plenty of opportunities to acquire many classic releases & at spectacular prices.
      I only started collecting big again in 2012 & had already missed a ton of 25th vehicles. I had to backfill from the after market & it was expensive! Worst yet, were the vehicles from the Spy Troops, Joe vs. Cobra & the 80's & 90's ARAH stuff!! Cost me a fortune!! Lol I have most of what I want though.

      @JGARCIA2012FULL 7 месяцев назад +4

      @@holonet1 I am a GI JOE "collector" from the age of 12 (1986), but I live outside the United States, paying almost $4 for one figure, and of course, I could not take advantage of any of these offers because I never found out. Another factor is the high shipping cost to my country, often multiplied by two to three times the purchase cost. I bought an incomplete Skystriker without a pilot, blueprints, or decals, as well as a Python X-30 and a 25th Anniversary Cobra Rattler, in the same conditions in 2013, which cost me around $25-$32 each on eBay, and I paid about $48-$60 for each one of them to receive them in my country. You don't want to know how much I paid for shipping the 25th Anniversary Ultimate Battle Pack; it still gives me nightmares!. But the real problem is still how information flows from Hasbro to its potential customers. My favorite example was the re-launched collection in 1998, all my favorite vehicles and figures, which I only discovered at the end of 2002 and bought some of when I joined eBay almost at the end of December 2006. Liquidations are the end of the line; they are good for those customers who have waited and can bring some good publicity to the company and the products, but they can be fatal for a toy manufacturer when a large proportion of your production ends up here, and that is precisely my point: to whom is it selling Hasbro their toys? How is it moving their products, and where is their advertising? in the Gi Joe's Club bulletins? This is why the 80's ads are still legendary!!

    • @holonet1
      @holonet1 7 месяцев назад +4

      @JGARCIA2012FULL I often forget, that your location is also a huge factor & not just your age, as a Joe fan. It still blows my mind, that Joe has a fan base outside of the US, because I do feel it's so US centric.
      Yes, I have also dealt with overseas shipping costs. Mostly from Japanese related merchandise. I can not fathom having to do that all or most of the time, because typically availability is usually within the States. The last three years have been especially brutal.
      After Joe's prime years in the 80's & till the early 90's, during it's original decline. Commercialization for it was pretty much extinct. I actually was out of the loop till the 30th line had already hit. During that time, it was 30th, POC, Retaliation & Renegades heavy. ROC had come & gone, pretty much what was left over was on clearance. I'm still blown away, how they went all out on that line, for a mediocre movie. I still love a lot of figures & vehicles from that line.
      Again, I missed the 1998 o-ring launches. I definitely missed some gems from that era, such as the Joe Hydrofoil & the camouflaged Joe Rattler. I did managed to find some decent condition MOBAT's, which is nice! I also actually prefer that later release, because of the nice camou. I understand it's military related, but I find OD Green, really plain & boring. Nothing like some interesting camou to spice things up. One of my favorite variations of the original VAMP mold, is from the Battle Pack, Danger at the docks. I love that Urban digital camou, it looks fantastic!!
      Again, with the lost of the original fanbase demographic of 80's, the same could be said about the advertising. Again, I was put of the loop & only later learned all this through websites, Joe RUclips channels & Ebay, Amazon. I can't even imagine what it would have been like outside the States, if the information of the releases were that abysmal during that time frame. I believe most of those items at the time were all TRU exclusives. A lot of items were also, DTC only. Others still, convention or mail-away order from Hasbro.
      You stated, that even in the 80's, you paid $4 bucks a figure. It wasn't much cheaper in the States. I remember a price tag of $2.49 per figure. It would vary per store. So, it ranged anywhere from $2 - $3 ish bucks on the average. The Drug stores, would charge $3.99 or so. I do remember, my cousin's lived in a city, where there was a discount store that sold Joe's for $1.49!! It was basically half price off from regular stores! Even the vehicles. I remembered being told that the Dreadknok Swampfire was only $7!! I paid about $15, I was blown away at the absolute steals, they were getting.

    • @JGARCIA2012FULL
      @JGARCIA2012FULL 7 месяцев назад

      @@holonet1 $4 when they were sold between $1.89 and $2.15 in the US. That is a 100% price increase in a country where the minimum wage was about $200 a month; it has been around $450 for the last 18 years now (exchange rate magic). It has never been easy to collect them, and that is why I didn't do it with the Transformers line; they were simply too expensive for me. I still remember all the prices back then because I began to buy the Joes through my cousin in Miami from 1987 to 1991 (from $2.39-$2.59-$2.89-$3.19 to $3.45); he was a fanatic like me. I bought the vast majority of the figures from those years and many of the vehicles. I have always been obsessive when I collect, but of course, by 1992, there was very little that sparked my interest in GI JOEs anymore. Until I found out about the 1998 collection, from 2006 to 2009, I spent thousands of dollars and got almost everything from 2001 to 2009, including a lot of figures and vehicles from the 80's, the Cobra Night Raven S3P, the Cobra Moray Hydrofoil, the GI Joe DevilFish, etc. The 1998 M.O.B.A.T., The Spy Troops Conquest X-30, The Snow Cat, The GI Joe's Moray Hydrofoil 2005; almost every figure of Spy Troops, Valor Vs. Venom; almost all two and three pack figures except the 98's re-launch (to expensive and rare in eBay), DTC, SIGMA 6, and 25th Anniversary line, I was all in, and then they cancelled everything again; maybe that was too much for me. And of course, the new lines of Classified have sunk the prices of many classic GI Joe figures; it just didn't make sense to continue sinking money on a line that has little future outside of current collectors. The time is almost here to say goodbye to GI Joe forever!!

    $285? Assuming you could find one they go for 2-4 thousand on Ebay, mostly only near complete. Unless you're referring the increase in inflation and what $100 would be today. But we've seen what companies want to charge for large playsets now. They know adults with adult jobs are buying these and not parents on a budget so the price is the limit!

    • @rneely007
