Anyway what important is what you sell not what you scan ,as high % can mean weak lambs and ewes in poor condition .Dam that's shiny looking handling set up in the street.Great stuff , enjoy the match tonight.

    I think scanning was a game changer feeding all ewes for twins led to lambing issues for the singles

  • @markfenner7005
    @markfenner7005 7 месяцев назад +1

    The reason I scan is not to over feed the mothers of singles. If you have no knowledge of what the ewe is having and feed everything coming to the end of lambing the lamb inside the ewe gets too big and can't be born easy. There is a high risk of losing the lamb, and maybe the ewe as well

    We did our low sheep a few weeks ago and they were well back on usual did 1.55 and we did the hill ewes yesterday and they were also poor they only did 1.1 which was the worst scan we have ever seen and we’ve been doing it for 40 years strangely enough there was not even as many dry as usual but almost all had only one in them , we only had 27 dry out of 654 in the hill ewes and only 21 dry out of 532 in our low ewes normally we would have about 60 or so dry in total but we would usually have about 1.75 in the low ones and 1.25 or better in the hill ewes . We are putting it down to the bad back end and that we have a good few extra hoggets this year as we culled hard because they were worth something. On the bright side we also got our silage tested and we don’t need to feed meals to the singles so that will save a good few quid.

The whole secret now is that we have to keep as many as humanly possible alive and thriving.
