Lost my Dad in 2000 and it warms my heart the way you curse each other. Anyone who saw my Dad and me sorting lambs would have thought there was going to be murder but we were best friends and I miss him every day. Good luck to you.😂

You will have to get someone to look at it and give you a price on it depending on what needs doing. I would get everything working on it and get it serviced regularly after that and it will last for years.

Your Dad's stories of his childhood are priceless. What a great opportunity to entertain us and at the same time keep his memories alive for future generations! I would just repair the tractor, not restore it ( if by restore you mean paint, fix the dings. etsc.). It has character the way it is. Hydrogen pyroxide will make maggots leap right off your ram's heads! Then the blue spray. Not sure if you have fly repelland paste in Ireland, but if so, put a dollop of it on the head of the injured ram when he butts heads with another ram it will transfer over and repel the flies if that ram get injured.

The thing to do with the tractor is this, promise yourself, and the tractor that you will do it up like new, just dont say when, and it will run for the next forty years. Remember its very important to have a project you are going to do whether you do it or not doesn't matter, it's the going to do that matters. I hated school with a passion, the ould headmaster was from Kerry, his nick name was baldy, and that is all I'll say about him. I escaped school school at fourteen, and never looked back. I'd enjoy a chat with your father, we could swap stories for hours.
    Keep up the good work.

It takes a lot of time, work and cash, Glyn. She's been inside and the tinwork is good, though. We've done up a John Deere 1130. You'll never get the money back you put into them restoring them, it's just a labour of love. My father and I are both Panel Beaters, him being my tradesman back in the day. If I knew how to I would send you pics of ours. I saw some of the videos I mentioned to you on eBay, Glyn. Grand videos; cheers my heart.🙏👍

Realistically only rich farmers can afford modern big tractors like John Deere and all that! If you’ve lots of government support and money from them then you should buy a modern tractor but if not then stick to the old ones

Might not be easy to get bits for the cab. It's a Fritzmeier cab that were only fitted on the Antwerp built Ford's and not the Basildon built Ford's due to noise regulations in the UK. Lots off the Ford's imported on to Ireland came from Antwerp. We had a 4600 and 6600 with the same cab. Worth restoration differently. They are beginning to climb in value lately..

Couldn't quite tell by the sound if your tractor is a gas or diesel. It sounded more like a diesel to me. It sounded like it cranked a little bit slow. Maybe get the battery checked. Make sure the battery posts and cables inside are shiny, not black. Check the ground cable where it fastens onto the frame so it has a good ground. Take it off and sand it clean. Check the terminals on the starter so they do not look rusty or burnt. Sometimes it may be corroded battery cables under the insulation. It could be a starter that needs repair. Battery cables are free to check. Testing a battery may be free? If you do these things, you may not need to sell. Hopefully some helpful hints from a tractor mechanic of 49 years.

    Omg memories
Don’t know if it is worth it but if you love the tractor
    Fancy it up
we had a old Minneapolis Moline don’t remember if it was late 40’s or early 50’s Dad wanted to restore it in the 80’s but he couldn’t get the parts but he drove it 70 miles in top road gear on the highway
He had to go up a steep grade and told my sister who was following for backup not to follow because if it lost power he would have to bail then when he was almost home he needed diesel
They cleared the gas station and these 3 old farts debated wheither it needed water too and how best to get fuel in it😂
Dad parked it in the field to cool it down
About 10 years later he sold it for parts after giving up restoring it
It broke his heart and my sister’s too
Me I hated the temperamental great Beast I loved our Ford 4000 he was a gem and had the heart of a lion❤

I was talking to a local farmer who spoke some fair wise words to me there over the summer.. I gives him a hand with the silage every year, I asked him would he not be interested in upgrading the oul shook massey he has and the mower, He replied, sure all the boys have there new tractors and are still making the same money on the farm as they were before they bought them.. Never actually thought about it like that.. He said hed love a new tractor, but it wouldnt make him any more money at all.. A bit of comfort he said thats about it..

I learned how to spray off youtube and while a professional of course would pick out some bad points I was happy and proud of my job. Got a little better before I odne the 7840.
