Like with all pen-tablets, probably it is a good idea in 7:14 (bottom left) to set proportion as "proportional to screen" (instead of "full area") or however it's called in Huion's driver, to get more controlled brush lines (sometimes by a lot) and easier hand-screen coordination. (I'm guessing this is left out as is supposed to be known, but just in case someone does not know :) ) The few millimeters lost are not worth loosing a lot of control by not setting it up so. Of course, in cases where the screen is very similar in size and proportions (like this case, tho is never 1:1), this is of smaller importance (but even then I'd still use "proportional"). This feature was not in tablets pre Wacom 1 times (I had a Kurta and a Summagraphics, before Wacom existed) and was a total disaster. Of course, there were also many other negative factors back then.
I am a huge advocate for pen-tablets over pen-displays. One another advantage in them is that if your work requires high quality in the screen, color range, professional calibration, etc, it's much likely to get that by using tablets like this plus a professional (or semi professional, no need to break the bank, 400$ will do) monitor of your choice. For example, an Eizo ColorEdge or a much cheaper Benq SW240 (both supporting Adobe RGB in high % and both acclaimed by the critic as amazing for color accuracy and etc). Also.. is much much easier to replace a pen-tablet (even a big one) due to price and stock/availability than say, a cintiq or XP-Pen/Huion 22/24 (comparing apples to apples in terms of screen size. In quality, heck no, the Eizo and SW240 are extremely higher quality screens (color, uniformity, contrast ratio, etc, etc, etc). This way you can change of tablet or monitor depending on your project needs or personal preference, rather than having to be tied to an "all in one", a "soldered" solution. You also have a not small advantage of not getting the hand in the way while you paint and for accurately fast picking color exactly in the area where you are painting (frequent task in digital painting, like with oils). And I say this while I am a traditional painter (started so), used to get "the hand in the way". But in digital you get a much better control with the hand not covering it, for many reasons. Also in traditional you have a faster/more versatile way to do everything, so this disadvantage when painting with real oils/acrylics does not matter. In digital it does. For some styles, tho (more stylized, comic, etc) this is not relevant. For realistic painting, imo it certainly is.
Fully also agreeing on the better posture (with pen-tablets). I have also experimented better line quality with high end (like the Wacom intuos pro L/XL) pen´tablets than the usual 16 inches display-tablet (of reasonable prices). Like ... most cases zero wobble with a classic pen-tablet, while not so the case in many pen-display tablets. I have a Huion Kamvas 22" and a Galaxy S7 FE 12,4", and while I handle them quite well, I get a much more accurate and powerful workflow (and better for long work sessions) with both my intuos L and XL (both are non-screen tablets).
Great review, I will keep an eye on this tablet. It indeed does seem a HUGE improvement over the 1409 (I have it and was quite less accurate than the Wacom XL and L...er... I know, am a bit of a tablets collector... I keep yet a Wacom 1, a Kurta and intuos S... and have sold a bunch others I had...:D ...). Seeing those line tests in the video, it seems like night and day compared with the one I have.

Great comment, I use Huion H950P, which does not have a 16:9 ratio and on top of that the driver is bugged and unless you "nudge" the screen area manually, you will get a distorted image! To be sure, "callibrate" by tracing a coin or some other physical circle-shaped object on top of your tablet's surface.
I also own a Kamvas 16 4K and I still tend to use H950P more often. For an insanely low price, it provides a great drawing experience, buttery smooth with high-refresh monitor and all the other benefits, like keyboard shortcuts, good posture, etc. I even taped a sheet of paper onto my tablet to add a bit of friction to the nib and it's a really good experience.
I would be tempted to try Giano, which has a superior pen, but it's a bit too large for my desk, I think. Thanks for a in-depth review, as always!

Excellent review as always. Been hoping that Huion would release an updated large tablet with the new pen and all that stuff. Looks like a pretty decent upgrade to the WH1409v2 that I'm using currently.
I had a question but just found the answer. In case anyone else wanted to know: If you don't have Bluetooth on your PC you can just use the USB cable for the data. Huion's website says so.

Having a Q620M Dial myself can't really justify changing the Dial for a useless screen just for Pen Tech 3, said it in their page but I'd have rather gotten a refresh on that one than this "Pro" marketing scheme.

Im have q620m with almost same pen and im dont like little wobble of pen tip. Its ok for scetching but im mostly want replace mouse for any working and huion not so good. Very little tip woble makes it difficult to select a part of text - a procedure I constantly need when saving files etc.
I tried to buy a new pen to check - maybe mine is just defective, but the pw517 was sent to me by mistake and it is the same - with tip wobble, just like my pw500.
Also its a annoyng problem - huion tablet work in two modes: windows ink On and Off. When ink off - i can work with it as mouse, i.e. i can do colorcorrecting work in photoshop like add Curve tools, hue-sat etc. BUT in this mode pressure DONT WORK. In INK mode On - pressure its ok but adjusting tools like Curve etc its pain, because the accuracy and responsiveness of the pen drops dramatically.
That is, if my work in photoshop is mixed (draw and adjusmtments) - it's just a awful experience, I must or turn on INK and also take mouse every time I need to adjust something, select text, etc. or constantly switch INK on and off. That's a bummer. Im dont know how its on wacom but on huion im pretty disapointed.
Also huion driver just broke fullscreen mode in many games if its just loaded. Game cant do fullscreen. When resident driver closed - its start to work. My wacom was several years ago but im dont remember any of this problem.

Could you help me with a curious doubut that I have about the pen? Since this is the PW517 can you use the pen interchangebly between this and the pen displays from huion that use the same technology (kamvas 22 plus, kamvas 24 pro 4k for example.)

How is the pen pressure sensitivity on the G930L? As in, how wide is the range of weight that can be applied to the tablet. I recently bought the Giano's little brother, the Huion (WH1409-8192) and the pen pressure sensitivity seems way to limited. Previously, I was using an XP-Pen Deco 01 and that tablet has really good pressure sensitivity. I use that tablet for my laptop. But I wanted a bigger tablet to accommodate my large monitor on my main desktop , and went for the WH1409. Although, I am a bit disappointed because it feels like the WH1409 pen doesn't have a wide range of pressure. In your opinion, how wide is the pressure sensitivity of the PW517 when drawing?

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  2 года назад

The PW517 pen has low initial activation force, and wide variation for the pressure sensitivity. You can see that in the line test at 8:27

The big question: have Huion updated their Windows drivers to support programs run as admin? That was the real kicker for me that I've never seen a review discuss. If I can't control Task Manager and my Remote Desktop software with the tablet, it doesn't work out. Wacom is the only manufacturer with drivers with high-enough permissions (afaik).

Hi! Have you recognized any difference between this and Wacom Intuos Pro in terms of drawing experience? Wacom Intuos Pro seems to be a classic high quality tablet. But it doesn't look that much complicated that other companies would not be able to make something as good. So I just wonder which non-display tablet to choose assuming that I have enough money for anything :)

In my experience it's pretty bad (worse than Huion's own earlier PW100 pens). The worst part is it's inconsistent. Sometimes it'll be super sensitive, other times not so much. In the grand scheme of things though it's not bad enough that it's worth fixating on. If you don't like it, return it or just learn to live with it. I'm looking to try XPPens X3 Pro stuff soon to see if it's better in this regard
